Passing through town. Stopped here for lunch based on yelp reviews. Order at the counter sandwich restaurant. Pick up you food in styrofoam containers when they call your number. Megan had the falafel sandwich and it was outstanding. Never would have guessed pickles would pull it all together. Good job. I had the white chili. My cup of soup had good flavor but was all broth. I had about seven beans and five small chunks of chicken. We shared some onion rings, which were fine. Most other patrons had their own order of onion rings, but together we could not finish ours because the portion is huge. You can get a mug of Bud Light for a buck sixty nine, a good deal, and although we arrived pre-noon several other customers availed themselves of the opportunity.

When I first went vegetarian, this place went way up my personal list. It was impossible to get vegetarian food on the go in Chattanooga, unless I wanted to eat a burger king veggie burger on the daily (needless to say, I don't). Ankar's is awesome-they make some killer falafels that fills that fast food niche. They also put some delicious special sauce on it.
If you're an onion ring fan, try them here. Perrrrfect.

my wife and i were in town for a wedding and had no clue of great spots in the area.  we turned to yelp and found ankar's.  we went and then when her parents came up, we went two more times!  we each had a sandwich and shared a combination of appetizers and the bill was less than $100...for all three trips!  That also includes 2 pitchers of beer.  Great food, the price is unreal, seriously, 6 bucks for a pitcher of beer??  happy hour specials here in DC can't touch 10 bucks, let alone 6.  If I'm ever down in Chatanooga again, I know where I'll be eating!

The best eastern-style (in-pita versus Greek on-pita) gyros I've ever had anywhere.  The crinkle-style fries are still great (I remember when Mr. Ankar was still alive and they were cooked crisper, however).  And the local paper proclaimed them as "Lord of the Rings" for their fantastic and huge onion rings.  I've been a patron for over 20 of its 30 years, and now that I've moved out of state, it's definitely at the top of my list each time I come back to town. While I rarely deviate from these menu items, my friends also love their steak-in-a-sack, camel riders, Greek salad, humus, hot dogs, and mini-corn dogs.

The wife and I went to a nearby sandwich shop from my parents' house and we came about Ankar's.  I remember the first time I've eaten there: I was a junior in high school (1995) and my buddies and I would load up in a pickup truck and go down Brainerd Rd to Ankar's.  I can't remember what I used to get there but it was always good, especially their baklava!  It's the best baklava in the world and it's only $1.10 for a serving!  The top is golden blonde and crispy puff pastry and the honey and nuts on the bottom is rich and delicious!  By the way, the sandwiches are great as we shared the classic hoagie and gyro.  The gyro is the way to go if you're new to Ankar's!  Their yogurt sauce is the best!  Also, we shared the best order of onion rings I've ever had in my entire life!  4 thumbs way up!!!

The best onion rings ever. I drive to Chattanooga from Marietta just to eat them. I would make the drive just for the onion rings and their Steak in Sub with Swiss is just icing on the cake.

I have grown up going to this restaurant and it is always wonderful. The family is terrific and the food is always delicious. I grew up a strict vegetarian so it was hard to find good places, and Ankar's always had something... of course, as an adult, I then discovered their wonderful cheeseburgers and turkey riders too!
