Review from Naseem B.

I made an appointment same day with Yati and was seen on time. She was fast and thorough but she trimmed my eyebrows without asking. I would have asked her not to do so ahead of time, but it was my first time and I had no idea what to expect. All she asked me before starting was, "Same shape?"
She did stay with my natural shape, and they do look great. After the redness and swelling went away, I'm really happy with it.
Also did my upper lip, and I bled a tiny bit on the corner of my mouth, but again, no big deal, except the cut reopens every time I eat something, which is really frustrating.
Tips are cash only. Wish I'd known that ahead of time.
Overall I was in and out of there in no time. Nice clean facility, friendly front desk. I will probably go back but, I'll be way more specific about what I want. -
Review from Ettya F.
Quick and clean - make an appointment and you'll have beautifully shaped eyebrows in seconds.
They'll listen if you request not to have too much pulled here...or there...or they'll kindly give you their advice on the best shape for your face.
Trust the lady. She'll make your face happy. -

I had written a review about this location a few months back, but my last visit to Anju Threads was absolutely a horrible experience. I went there last Thursday after work around 5:30 (no appointment and just walked in). It was understandable that I would wait for some time to be seen as I had two walk ins and two appointments scheduled before I came in. I decided to patiently wait and that wait turned into almost an hour before I was actually seen. By the time it was my turn to get my threading done, a woman (slightly elder in age and of Indian descent) had started threading. I needed my eye brows, upper lip and chin done. She did a very poor job at threading and then advised i go home and use steam to remove the remaining hair with tweezers! There was a lot of hair left on my face.
I was shocked she said this after I had clearly expressed my displeasure with her work. I went to the Front Desk and let them know I was not happy with it and the lady at the desk was extremely rude as she told me I should have come in when Yati is in (I am usually only happy with Yati's work) and that it's not really a fault of theirs that they couldn't remove my hair. I was so angry that I replied: "I didn't know it was my job to know your employees' schedules to come in and ACTUALLY expect good customer service from ALL of your employees". Needless to say, she contacted Anju (the owner) via texting and all they could give me was a reduction in price and they charged me for the upper lip and chin which was clearly not threaded properly. Then, they said if I came in that Saturday, it would be free and they would re-do all of the threading which I left content with after such a long debacle.
When I couldn't make my appointment on Saturday, they informed me the "free deal" was off because it would have only been good if I came in on that particular day. How unbelievable that was to me - poor service, few of the Front Desk girls are stuck up and rude, overly priced along with long waits and broken promises.
I''ll be taking my future threading business to another nearby threading establishment from here onwards.1 Previous Review: Show all »

Update to my first review; this place is now confirmed as my eyebrow grooming staple. I have been three times and Dimple is so adorable and friendly it makes me smile. She is consistent with her work, and stops to make sure you are comfortable and you like where the process is going. I can't foresee her getting sloppy with her work or having an off day which is important to me. I always make an appointment so I've never experienced a rush; she always takes me right at the appointed time or earlier. After so many bad experiences this and time spent growing my eyebrows back, Anju threads is well worth the money to me.

Willow Grove, PA
My brows suffered from too much waxing, so I let them grow out for a few months. Decided to stop by anju and I absolutely loved it! There was no wait and Dimple was very friendly. I explained how I wanted to keep the thickness and length and she did exactly what I asked for!

Really more like 2.5 stars.
I've been here twice now and my first experience was great, my second was pretty underwhelming.
I came as a walk-in both times and only had to wait about 2 minutes each time. I went to Yati the first time and explained to her exactly what I wanted. I needed a clean up and some shaping. If you're used to waxing this hurts A LOT more. It felt like she was taking razor blades to my eyelids, but whatever, beauty is pain, right? Plus she was done in like 35 seconds so it didn't even matter.
The second time I got another girl (black woman, not sure of her name) and the experience was pretty bad. She didn't really let me go into detail of what I wanted and by the time I was done I felt like my eyebrows were WAY too thin. She also broke the thread 3 separate times so it was a lot of stop and starting. Really annoying.
I will probably go back but will only see Yati again. I still have yet to find the perfect place for eyebrows in the city! -

After trying out threading at the most recent Yelp party, I decided to pop in here late on a Friday afternoon. They recommend appointments, but I called 20 minutes ahead of my arrival and put my name down. Located on the second floor, the space is beautiful, with big open windows. Popped in a chair, and Yati got to work. 2 minutes later, she was done! Since I have never had my eyebrows waxed, I cannot compare the experience, but it was a few quick pinches and I left with even brows. From other reviewers, it sounds like $13 is a pricey, but I thought it was well worth it and I will definitely be back.

Used a Groupon for eye and lip threading for $11. A real bargain for the city. It was a good experience and would do it again. Quick and painless.
Side note.....the girl who worked on me had b.o. but it was over so quickly it didn't really offend me. -
Review from Natalie S.

I started going to anjuthreads back when it was just a little shop on 10th street. Since then it's gone through some changes and the addition of several new staff members. Unfortunately, I can't say these changes have been good ones.
The previous location was tiny but had a nice cozy vibe. The new location, while more spacious seems stark and lacks personality. I will give them a star for how clean it is, though.
When I started going to anjuthreads, Anju was usually the one threading and she always did such a nice job. She was quite meticulous and I always left feeling like I got my money's worth and that she got every. last. hair.
Now, however, when I leave I just feel ripped off.
Nowadays it's rare that Anju will be the one doing the threading (I believe she only works one day a week). You never know who you're going to get, but regardless of who is working, the threading is always done extremely quickly. If I'm paying $21+tip to have my eyebrows and upper lip done, I deserve more than 1 minute of your time (which is literally how long I was in the chair yesterday). I understand that they're usually very busy and trying to squeeze in as many people as possible but often I get home and find a bunch of hairs that were missed. I was just threaded yesterday and today, I'm noticing prickly stubble. To me, that indicates that they're not actually pulling out the hair, but simply breaking it off. Maybe if they took a little more time, the would actually do a decent job. At first I thought this rushing was due to me coming near the end of the day...so I tried coming in first thing in the morning but I had the same disappointing results.
I will give them a couple stars for being very easy to make an appointment with. Also if I do walk-in, I've rarely had to wait too long. It's a pain, though, that tips are cash only and that you can't put them on your card.
I'm really bummed that the quality of service has gone downhill...because it really was a great place. I've been loyal to Anju threads for several years, but I'm going to start looking for some place else. -
Review from Dan C.
For any guys who are curious,
Yes, this place does cater to men and despite the ambiguous variable price, it's basically the same. 13 bucks for brows, and I doubt that you'd get anything else done since you can easily shave it. Definitely on the pricier side, but well worth it. The woman who did mine sat me down and had me out of the chair in less than 5 mins and needed zero prompting or direction. Fantastic. -
Review from Martha N.
Phoenix, AZ
It was my first time threading and I wasn't super impressed. When I got home, I realized that there had been hair left behind on my upper lip and in between my eyebrows. She also did not follow my natural arch very well. I should've known bc I have several friends that go and I've never really thought the natural shape of their eyebrow was followed.
One the positive side, the studio is roomy and in a great neighborhood. My friends love this place and I wont say don't go here, it just wasn't the place for me. -
Review from Azucena R.
Philadelphia, PA
This place is relatively more expensive for threading than I'm used to (compared to DC and NYC). However, given the lack of good threading places in Philadelphia it is not a bad place to go to get your brows shaped. The ambiance is quiet and clean; while service is quick, accurate, and efficient.

Came here to get my eyebrows done because I was in emergency mode but I found them to be soo over priced. She cleaned my eyebrows up nicely but I feel so guilty paying $13 for threading!! I've never paid more than $5 and I've been getting them done for over a decade.
They are friendly and clearly know how to shape properly and keep a really clean place. The salon has a relaxing atmosphere and an excellent music selection.
The three stars is because of the price. I'll stick to my ladies in West Philly or Jersey. -

I was a bit hesitant to try it after reading the reviews, but being short in time decided to check it out. The place was pretty much empty and seemed quite bare. no real 'ambiance' to the place. Got my eyebrows and lip done by Yati. She was fast (it felt too quick almost!). I told her before sitting down what exactly I was looking to get done. She seemed efficient but super fast. Was happy with the upper lip but felt she cld have worked a bit more on trimming and shaping. Would probably go back if I had no other choice and wld insist on thorough shaping. A bit expensive too for only 3 mins worth of work.

I never liked waxing or plucking my eyebrows, and I always let my eyebrows get to the point where it looks like I have a caterpillar across my face. It gets BAD. So one day I looked into threading, and decided to try it out. I'll never go back to waxing!
Making an appointment here was easy and I was able to get in the next day, however, I was a bit late (oops, sorry) so I was seen as a walk-in instead. Despite three customers in front of me, I was still done in time and a few minutes early for work - they go very quickly.
My threader didn't necessarily ask me how I wanted my brows shaped, just started working. I don't know anything about how to 'properly' shape eyebrows, so I didn't mind it. I especially didn't mind because they looked GREAT.
I did feel a bit uncomfortable about the fact that there's no privacy - everyone else waiting watches you. Maybe that's because I'm a total baby when it comes to getting my eyebrows done, so I felt a bit embarrassed about the fact that everyone could see me squirming around in the chair and being reprimanded about not placing my hands over my eyes/forehead the right way. It also seemed a bit expensive when I was comparing prices, but it's so close to my job that I didn't even want to try somewhere else.
Now that I think about it, I really need to go back to tame this thing on my forehead. -

i wish i could give ZERO stars. i just went to anjuthreads and said "it's my first threading, please don't go too thin, just underneath, thanks" - I HAVE NO RIGHT EYEBROW. I'M NOT KIDDING. i RAN to sephora in TEARS to get my eyebrows fixed and the girls there gasped in horror.
i'm mortified. i have my brother's wedding in two months and if they are better by then i'll be a wreck. please please please don't go here. unless of course, you're looking to have your entire f'ing eyebrow removed from your face. i look like some 14 year old that has no idea how to use tweezers. spare yourself.
i just can't believe i paid for this nonsense. i just wanted to get the heck out of there as fast as i could.
again. DO NOT go here.

It's a little hard to find this place-- I didn't notice a pink sign like the picture on Yelp says. But just walk into the door that has their number address and on the second floor is where the studio is. You can tell that this is a new studio, it's pretty bare. The chick behind the counter mentioned that they moved just in November.
I walked-in at 6:30 (they close at 7) and waited 10 mins while another client got threaded and then the woman threaded me. It was awesome-- she was very hygienic and fast and friendly. I love how they all call you "honey" lol! So adorable. I got my eyebrows waxed once and it was kinda sucky-- they skin around my eyes is just too thin and sensitive for that-- this is much better even though the sensation is similar to tweezing.
Only gripe is the price. I used to get my eyebrows threaded at a kiosk at the KOP mall and it was awesome-- they were also very good and it cost me $10 the first time and then $5 every time after that. The price range should really be between $5-$10. Or maybe they should give you a punch card, like every fifth session is half off or free. I dunno. I might try out a cheaper place. -

I've been getting my eyebrows threaded for about 3 years now. I can't seem to find a place that I love. With that said, I'm a fan of Dimple at anjuthreads, she always does a great job and my brows come out perfect every time. I've seen other technicians here and I prefer Dimple's technique and, for lack of a better term, "bedside manor."
I usually call ahead, as not to wait too long, I notice more of wait during lunchtime (12-1:30) and later afternoon. Also availability seems better in the earlier part of the week.
The place is hard to find, but if you pay close attention, you can find it. They recently started putting a sidewalk sign out, adjacent to the door, so that helps. I miss the coziness of the previous location.
Its also a little pricey, I recently found an esthetician closer to my home who does the treading for a fraction of the price. But sometimes convenience to work is key. -

I absolutely love eyebrow threading. It gives me that nice perfect arch that you can't always get with waxing.
I like how the threaders at Anju spend extra time to achieve the look you want. I've been to some places and they just rush to get you done. You get what you pay for at Anju-a great experience and great brow! :-)
The shop is tiny, but it's absolutely adorable and the staff is always warm and friendly.Listed in: I Keep It Pretty

One word-Perfect!! My eyebrows are perfect! Dipple did my eyebrows and she is great. She asked my multiple times during the process if I was ok and she called my honey :-) which made me smile...lol Seriously though, this place is great. Great eyebrow shaping and great customer service. The price is a little high and that is why I am taking off one star but the service is worth it.

I've been coming here regularly since I moved back to Philly in '09. My skin always reacted adversely to waxing - threading is definitely the way to go. Dimple always does a great job, leaving them full but cleaning them up perfectly.
Definitely recommend making an appt if you can plan ahead, this place can fill up fast! -

I've never had eyebrow threading done before, but Anju threads had such good reviews and my eyebrows were looking bushy, so I decided to give it a try.
Her place is small, but very cute, simple and clean. She is really sweet and personable - I rescheduled my appointment time TWICE-- and she was able to accommodate me and was very pleasant about it (she said it was a light day, but still, she didn't sound annoyed). The appointment lasted about 10-15 minutes, and we had good, light conversation. Most importantly, my eyebrows looked perfect when she was done! I left my eyebrow wax person back in California and I've found so-so places in Philly, so I was glad to find her. I'm definitely a threading fan now!
Random - if you are from or going to NJ, the 9th/10th st. PATCO station is a block away! -

My eyebrows had caught up with me during a trip back east, and there was NO way I was boarding a plane with the unruly mess above my eyes. I found Anju on Yelp and figured I only had everything to gain.
Boy was I right! Not only did she do a great job, but she is SUPER cool too. She's easy going and really listened to what I wanted. She did a thorough job and within minutes I was ready to face the world again.
I've been getting threaded for over 7 years (and will never wax again!!) , and been to some of the best places in the LA area. I have to give Anju a lot of credit for what she does - her small workspace is clean and hip, and she knows how to make you feel comfortable. If I'm ever in Philly again, I'll definitely stop by!Listed in: Taming of the 'BROW

Review from Naseem E.
Granite Bay, CA
Eh, didn't feel it.
Let's walk through this:
Annoyance #1: The establishment encourages advanced reservations. For a threading establishment, I have never had to do this in the past and I see someone almost immediately. The only time I've ever had to do this was was when I wanted to see a specific threader. To their defense, they only have one chair; however, this is already inconvenient.
Annoyance #2: I arrive on time for an 11am appointment. They are running late. I wait for 25 minutes. For a place that stresses advanced reservation, the least they can do is start on time, or at least apologize for being late.
Annoyance #3: The lady at the front desk is short with the customers. She also has the worst eyebrows I have ever seen.
Annoyance #4: It was raining that day. The place is small and I understand they are trying to maximize their space; however, the least they can do is put an umbrella bin next to the door and throw up a coat rack to hang wet jackets. This takes very little room and effort on their part.
Annoyance #5: The lady doing the eyebrow threading has some of the worst eyebrows I have seen as well.
Annoyance #6: Second to the receptionist, the client before me had some pretty gnarly eyebrows. Thin lines. Yikes!
Annoyance #7: For threading, the pricing is at least 40% more than what I have paid for in the past...and I lived one of the most expensive areas in the country, the bay area, for seven years.
Positives: The establishment is clean. The prices are clearly labeled. The ambiance is nice.
The threading...eh...I've experienced better. Maybe this is the best place in Philly...I think I'd rather do my own eyebrows.Listed in: Philly Reviews

AnjuThreads was recommended by a few friends so I decided to make an appt. I don't remember the lady's name, but she did an awesome job threading my eyebrows and she was really nice.

I really love Anju Threads. I stumbled across them by accident after I was in dire need of some eyebrow shaping and wanted to try something other than waxing.
I see Dimple most often but I've had great experiences with all the threaders at the shop. Everyone is really sweet and they take the time to look at your shape, make sure they know what you want and give you exactly that. I really like the fact that threading is a lot easier on my skin and I never walk out red/irritated or break out afterward (as I was with waxing). I would highly recommend Anju Threads for anyone looking for a consistently great place to get their eyebrows shaped -

I am a skeptic when it comes to anything beauty product / skincare / haircare-related. The truth is...
Dimple is a miracle worker.
I picked Anjuthreads on a friend's recommendation. Well, really, said friend is the poster child for perfect eyebrows. I walked into this shoebox-sized establishment without an appointment at 2 pm on a Thursday afternoon. I hadn't had my eyebrows professionally handled in a really long time, basically as bad as it gets: unibrow, spotty, ingrown, long-haired, and generally untidy. In 10 short minutes, Dimple trimmed and evened out my brows, and somehow made them look more filled in.
Will DEFINITELY be back; she's earned a loyal client/fan. -

I finally found an eyebrow threading place in Philly that is fairly close to me! I asked a friend of mine where she went and she recommended this place. I'm used to spending about 10 minutes getting my eyebrows threaded, but while Anju took about 20 minutes, it was relatively less painful. The 20 minutes went by fast though; Anju and I chatted it up and she even knew the place I went to Orange County, CA!

Anju.... just in case you're reading this, I adore you dear :) What can I say that hasn't already been said. You are a living doll and your service is superb. You made me feel so comfortable and the atmosphere is so tranquil.
I had my nails done soon after visiting Anju and I was told that my eyebrows were too heavy and that I need to thin them out. I beg to differ, as they are exactly what I had asked for. The owner, although skilled in eyebrow waxing, could not deny the fact that Anju did a beautiful job.
Anju listens attentively and will work within your vision and scope for your brows. This was my first eyebrow job ever and I knew I wanted a threader to perform the task... the only questions were who? and where?. Yes, I attempt to pluck at home, but my novice detail pales in comparison to her handy work. What she does is an art form and one that will be well appreciated here in Philadelphia.
My! I feel so polished! Spread the word ladies! -

Review from Zoe P.
I've grown up around women who wax. My mom gets everything waxed, my friends at the very least all get their eyebrows waxed - I had never even heard of threading until just recently. Normally I get my eyebrows waxed when my legs also get taken care of, but for some reason my brows decided to go even more wild than usual and required attention IMMEDIATELY. I took this as an opportunity to try threading out, and since Anju is rated so highly on Yelp I figured why not?
The place itself is TINY. I had passed the store front several times before but had never actually seen inside. Its one room with a small front desk, a couch and chairs by the window to wait on, and one chair in the back by a large mirror. I had to wait a few minutes since I just walked in, but that seems to be the norm as two other women walked in after me to wait. Anju is very, very nice and friendly - I warned her it was my first time, and she every so often made sure I was ok with the pain. It only took a few minutes, and when she was done she made me check the shape in the mirror. She really knows what she's doing, and how she manages to shape eyebrows so well astounds me. I will DEFINITELY be back here the next time I need some tidying up.Listed in: Beauty Knows No Pain

I've been getting my eyebrows threaded for about 5-6 years but was never able to find a place in Center City until I came across Anjuthreads. I immediately setup an appointment to check it out & was definitely happy with the results.
Overall, I think Anju does a great job. I'm not used to a 15-20 min threading session (more like 5-10), but she does a thorough job & takes the extra time to ensure you have a good experience. She's also an absolute sweetheart. The studio is bright & clean and is located right in Center City near some great cafes.
If you're a waxer, give threading a shot. It's a lot more forgiving to your skin. -

I went out of my way so that I could get my first threading experience from a place with lots of good reviews. I was on time for my appointment with Anju, and I only had to wait a few minutes while she finished up with the customer ahead of me. She asked me what kind of brow shape I was looking for and went to work. It was very fast and simple. If anything, I might have preferred to have a little bit more time - because this was my first time I was nervous. It wasn't really painful - the discomfort was about the level I expected. I think this is definitely the place to go if you're in the area anyway.

I consider this to be one of those gems I've stumbled across as a "newbie" in Philadelphia. I've gotten my eyebrows threaded a lot of different places over the last several years but this is my absolute favorite!
Anju is warm, friendly and amazing at what she does. After a trip to see her your brows will look incredible. I've taken several of my friends to see her and they loved her work as well. Her prices are a fraction of what I paid in NYC and I get better results in a great environment. She has a cute little salon which is always clean and I've noticed she uses hand sanitizer between clients which I like since I have a bit of a germ phobia. I would suggests making an appointment first so you don't have to wait.
On a recent trip, her employee, Dimple, did my brows and was just as amazing. Very thorough and great with shaping without taking too much off. If your interested in trying threading for the first time or just want to check out a new spot, I highly recommend giving Anjuthreads a try...they're the best! -

Just went to get my eyebrows done after reading reviews; got convinced by Dimple to do my upper lip, too. I have terrible brows anyway, and I have let them grow back so that I could get them re-shaped. She did a good job with the brows (gentle, quick, precise), but MAN is my upper lip throbbing, even after the application of their toner!!!
It's a cute shop - only one chair for services, though, so be aware if you are a walk in like I was (fortunately I was squeezed in between two appointments, so I didn't have to wait long). Dimple was very pleasant, and even gave me tips on applying castor oil to my brows for them to grow back faster.
All in all, it was a quick and cute experience. I might come back just for brows later. -
Review from Seema F.
I'm Indian, so I've been getting threaded since I was old enough to notice my bushy eyebrows. However, in my day the nearest place outside of India was way up in Edison, NJ (India-town). A few years ago 1 popped up in South Jersey, but now my prayers have been answered with one in Philly!
Anju Threads is a cute, albeit tiny place. I was surprised that they suggested appointments (I'm pretty used to walk-in threading), but after seeing how crowded it was, I'm glad I did. If you do walk-in don't worry, because threading only takes a few minutes so you won't be waiting long. I had Dimple and she is very attentive and gentle. Of all the threading I've had, this one seemed to hurt the least. And unlike many other places, she actually sculpted my eyebrows appropriately arched and thinned without constant direction.
I'm used to Edison prices so I was a bit shocked, but I can understand why this place charges more. I suppose I'm paying for better service and convenience so it's worth it. I'll definitely be coming back!
