I've grown up around women who wax. My mom gets everything waxed, my friends at the very least all get their eyebrows waxed - I had never even heard of threading until just recently. Normally I get my eyebrows waxed when my legs also get taken care of, but for some reason my brows decided to go even more wild than usual and required attention IMMEDIATELY. I took this as an opportunity to try threading out, and since Anju is rated so highly on Yelp I figured why not?

The place itself is TINY. I had passed the store front several times before but had never actually seen inside. Its one room with a small front desk, a couch and chairs by the window to wait on, and one chair in the back by a large mirror. I had to wait a few minutes since I just walked in, but that seems to be the norm as two other women walked in after me to wait. Anju is very, very nice and friendly - I warned her it was my first time, and she every so often made sure I was ok with the pain. It only took a few minutes, and when she was done she made me check the shape in the mirror. She really knows what she's doing, and how she manages to shape eyebrows so well astounds me. I will DEFINITELY be back here the next time I need some tidying up.

I've never had eyebrow threading done before, but Anju threads had such good reviews and my eyebrows were looking bushy, so I decided to give it a try.

Her place is small, but very cute, simple and clean. She is really sweet and personable - I rescheduled my appointment time TWICE-- and she was able to accommodate me and was very pleasant about it (she said it was a light day, but still, she didn't sound annoyed). The appointment lasted about 10-15 minutes, and we had good, light conversation. Most importantly, my eyebrows looked perfect when she was done! I left my eyebrow wax person back in California and I've found so-so places in Philly, so I was glad to find her. I'm definitely a threading fan now!

Random - if you are from or going to NJ, the 9th/10th st. PATCO station is a block away!

I consider this to be one of those gems I've stumbled across as a "newbie" in Philadelphia.  I've gotten my eyebrows threaded a lot of different places over the last several years but this is my absolute favorite!

Anju is warm, friendly and amazing at what she does.  After a trip to see her your brows will look incredible. I've taken several of my friends to see her and they loved her work as well.  Her prices are a fraction of what I paid in NYC and I get better results in a great environment.  She has a cute little salon which is always clean and I've noticed she uses  hand sanitizer between clients which I like since I have a bit of a germ phobia.  I would suggests making an appointment first so you don't have to wait.

On a recent trip, her employee, Dimple, did my brows and was just as amazing.  Very thorough and great with shaping without taking too much off.  If your interested in trying threading for the first time or just want to check out a new spot, I highly recommend giving Anjuthreads a try...they're the best!

I have no idea what I would do without Anju.

She makes my eyebrows look amazing, every time. She is so knowledgeable and fun to be around. The shop is really nice and clean. You know she really cares about what she's doing.

People said the prices were high, but I think you really pay for the quality and expertise. She is super-aware of hygiene which makes a germphobe like me so comforted. The prices are very close if not the same as other threading places in Philly where I have had bad experiences. I always make an appointment as she is pretty busy on the weekend.

I could not recommend this place more. As long as they are around, I am a customer for life.

Went here for the first time today after reading all the accolades from fellow yelpers.  Gotta say I second or third everyone else's comments.  I had a really pain free experience and expertly arched brows.  Loved that for a small place they weren't cash only.  It was a really cute space as well.  I'll definitely go back.
One note: given the size of the space I would definitely recommend an appointment.  They do take walk ins, but since its not really near where I live, I'll definitely be making a reservation.

My eyebrows had caught up with me during a trip back east, and there was NO way I was boarding a plane with the unruly mess above my eyes. I found Anju on Yelp and figured I only had everything to gain.

Boy was I right! Not only did she do a great job, but she is SUPER cool too. She's easy going and really listened to what I wanted. She did a thorough job and within minutes I was ready to face the world again.

I've been getting threaded for over 7 years (and will never wax again!!) , and been to some of the best places in the LA area. I have to give Anju a lot of credit for what she does - her small workspace is clean and hip, and she knows how to make you feel comfortable. If I'm ever in Philly again, I'll definitely stop by!

Before visiting Anju, i'd grown out my eyebrows for 2 full weeks. I was attempting to cure myself of obsessive eyebrow  tweezing and I guess did it too well - I needed help! I was hoping that 3 things would happen: my eyebrows would be cleaned up (but not too thin), they would be very symmetrical (which is impossible to accomplish when you tweeze with one hand covering an eyebrow) and a little bit of an arch would be added (not too surprised).

The minute I stepped into the shop, Anju made me feel super comfortable. Her shop is absolutely beautiful and calming and the fresh flowers were a great touch. She first threaded my eyebrows to their "fullest natural shape" and chatted with me the entire time doing so. She was super friendly and we discussed everything from how she decided to open her shop to what we do at the gym.

After about 10 minutes of threading, she sat me upright to "discuss my arch." I thought they already looked fabulous, but Anju gave me some suggestions and then went back to work.

I was super happy with my eyebrows after she was all done. It was $13, double what I pay my threadist in Delaware, but worth every penny. Try it!

Anju wasn't the person that did my brows but she was there and the individual who did (who's name I'm forgetting) did a wonderful job. It had been a while since I'd gotten my brows done professionally so there was a bit of hair to take of although I semi kept them up at home. She made sure to ask me if I was comfortable and if it was paining too much to let her know so that things could be adjusted to my comfort level. Felt that was a very professional way of saying this is a lot of hair to take off so I'm sure it's going to hurt, let me know if it does too much.

It did hurt a bit but as to be expected, she also sanitized her hands between customers as someone else mentioned, and she added what I believe to be powder at the start of my service and an astringent at the end.

Was about 10-15 minutes as someone else mentioned, she asked if I liked them and let me know the days she's available.  Also love the shape my brows can be thin in areas and she did a good job of giving me a nice natural shape, doesn't look like I'm thin at the edges at all.

I'll definitely will be back for upkeep.

So, I waited 45 minutes for 1 person to go ahead of me. What a disaster. She is too slow and has no client service skills. Please do not ever go here, and if you do, be prepared to wait for an hour to pay a 100% markup over NJ threading places.

EDIT: I feel bad for writing this, but I need to be honest. I don't like to be negative to a single business proprietor.

About a month ago I decided to try this "threading" that I had heard so much about. So I headed to the internet and started a-googling, but there were several choices in the Center City area so I turned to Yelp, and all of you had really good things to say about  Anju Threads.

I plucked/waxed for years, and I really love this alternative. I always broke out from the wax, and plucking took forever. It is the same amount of discomfort (I mean, they are forceably removing unwanted hair from your face by the root) But it is far less irritating to the skin surrounding that hair, organic, and quick. It is a great alternative, and Anju does an excellent job. Eyebrows only cost $13 which was half as much as I was paying for waxing (you can remove hair from anywhere on the face using this method, prices seem to vary) and her hours are excellent, no weird day schedules like some salons have, which always drove me nuts!

The shop is gorgeous, really well designed, clean, and welcoming. Anju is a total sweet heart - very engaging and attentive to her customers, I felt like I had made a new friend by the time I left, and my eyebrows looked great too! Recently she has brought someone new into the shop, but she was no Anju. I've never had any trouble with a walk in, and only occasionally have to wait a few minutes for a seat in the chair, but from now on I will be sure to make an appointment with Anju herself!

If you're looking for a great alternative and are a design freak like me, this place will appeal to all of your senses. Enjoy!

I've been getting my eyebrows threaded for about 5-6 years but was never able to find a place in Center City until I came across Anjuthreads.  I immediately setup an appointment to check it out & was definitely happy with the results.

Overall, I think Anju does a great job. I'm not used to a 15-20 min threading session (more like 5-10), but she does a thorough job & takes the extra time to ensure you have a good experience. She's also an absolute sweetheart. The studio is bright & clean and is located right in Center City near some great cafes.

If you're a waxer, give threading a shot. It's a lot more forgiving to your skin.

SHE IS AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!! I LOVE ANJU!! I have bitched and moaned for years about never finding anyone in Philly for threading. When I would find people they would butcher my eyebrows. You can tell, I'm very very PICKY when it comes to my eyebrows. I moved to NYC last year thinking my problem would be solved but going on yelp and finding a good place for threading was soooo hard! Shoba is goos (I will write a review soon) but not as good as Anjuthreads. She's pricey but worth it. I think it's because she's American and listens to you before she shapes your eyebrows. The place is such a cute room in a wonderful location. I wish I had known of this place earlier and before when I lived in PA i would wait till I found someone to do my eyebrows now i"m in NYC and wait till I go home to get my eyebrows done (I'm very loyal and you can imagine, hairy too). Best threading on the East Coast- yep I went there!

I am now a convert! I found this place on yelp actually and decided to give it a shot. Being a virgin to threading I was a bit skeptical and apprehensive going in.
I am a veteran at getting my brows waxed and hate all the sticky mess that is left after the wax. Not to mention the number of times I've been burned by wax that was too hot!
Anju was professional, very efficient with her time (for me it took less than 10 minutes) and made me feel relaxed by having a little chat going. For me the "procedure" was completely painless, but yet again, I was used to much worse.
The salon was adorable and had a very "clean" feel to it! Not to mention that the session only cost 13 bucks, where are at some places I was used to paying as much as 20!
I say give it a shot! I am now a total convert!

This place is so great!  She did an AMAZING job and she is totally down to earth.  There weren't any long awkward pauses and she was quick but detailed.  She didn't miss any hairs.  I highly recommend it as the best place in the city for threading or any hair removal needs!

I started threading in NY and was disappointed that there wasn't threading in Philly when I first moved back here two years ago.  Then within six months places seemed to be popping up everywhere! Anju is by far my favorite threader though in any city!  And I won't bury the lead any longer: my eyebrows look awesome! Additional points for an adorable shop--it's situated on a row that looks straight out of London or something--total old world charm. And Anju has a lot of charm herself.  I always end up having an enjoyable conversation with her. And as for threading in general: it does hurt, but slightly less than waxing and it's DEFINITELY less abrasive on your skin.  I am of Irish/ German descent (read: pink and pale) and used to walk out of waxing looking (and feeling) like a burn victim. It's hardly noticeable when I've threaded.

I finally found an eyebrow threading place in Philly that is fairly close to me! I asked a friend of mine where she went and she recommended this place. I'm used to spending about 10 minutes getting my eyebrows threaded, but while Anju took about 20 minutes, it was relatively less painful. The 20 minutes went by fast though; Anju and I chatted it up and she even knew the place I went to Orange County, CA!

Will definitely come back!

cute shop. pretty nice experience and thread. $13

i've only been during off peak hours but it's a small space so i can imagine that it gets packed at times.

like the fact that she uses hand sanitizer in between clients......never hurts to be little OCD when it comes to hygiene!

This place is the best.  Anju's little shop is so cute, and Anju herself is so nice.  She really takes her time doing your brows, and does a fantabulous job.  She even took it in stride when I said "He (meaning my hairdresser) does a great cut and blowj*b (can we say that on yelp?) for $80"... when I meant to say "He does a great job and gives cut and blowout for $80".  So... yeah, she's an A+ in my book.

I absolutely love this place, Anju is a sweetheart and really wants to make sure you are happy with your eyebrows. She suggests a nice shape and makes sure the look is clean and fitting for your face. She takes her time too, you don't feel rushed even if someone walks in after you. Speaking of which, she is so convenient for that last minute eyebrow job you need!

first time trying threading, it was pretty cool.
the shop was so small ! I didn't expect it to really be like a studio room :O but i kind of liked it.

Anju was really nice, she tried to talk to me but all I could do was nod & mumble because I was afraid I would mess up my eyebrows. I didn't tell her what I wanted, but she kind of read my mind ? Because what I wanted was for my eyebrows to even out in shape and size ! & its exactly what I got. The only thing I dislike is that its too rounded/curved for my preference but I'll be sure to tell her next time :D

overall, enjoyable experience

I'm a believer! My days of waxing are over. I always break out after an eyebrow wax, so I was dying to try threading as an alternative. It took Anju roughly 15 minutes to thread my brows and the whole process was alot more pleasant than any waxing experience I've encountered. I have alot of fine hairs so I was super impressed that threading could pick up those hairs. The process is relatively painless (at least less so than waxing and plucking), Anju is very pleasant, and my brows look great. Oh its also cheaper than any place I've been waxed at. I'll definitely be back!!!

I was delighted to stumble upon Anju Threads.   Anju is very, very nice and does a beautiful job and her space has a quiet and calming atmosphere.    On more than one occasion people have said my eyebrows look "perfect" and I immediately refer them to Anju Threads.  If you haven't already, definitely  give it a try!
