OK the chips and salsa are disappointing. They need to be hot and the salsa needs to be thicker. I came for breakfast and had the Anita Breakfast which was a chorizo breakfast burrito with homefries and beans. It was quite good and spicy. The service was very good and so was the coffee.
But yea they need to give it up on the chips and salsa...meh.
Meh- was so excited to have a non-corporate chain mexican restaurant nearby (we just moved to Springfield). We love to eat out and wanted something other than McDonalds for my son, plus I had a hankerin' for some nachos. What a disappointment! Nobody working there appeared to speak any English and the nachos were gross. My mom had a chimichanga and said it was pretty good, though.
I went back with my sister in order to give Anita's another shot, and we were given guacamole that had gone bad. YUCK!
Prices are good but service was pretty poor- we never received drink refills. On a positive note, the salsa (and chips) they provided was good and spicy.

My wife and I gave this place a shot after hearing good things about it. After the experience, I can still say that El Paso in Springfield has the best Mexican food in the area.
I should have known something was wrong when we passed a table with people eating pancakes. I was excited to see that they were serving breakfast though because I saw Chorizo and Eggs on the menu and ordered it. My wife had chicken and steak fajitas.
My eggs were overcooked and the chorizo crumbled to the point where I wouldn't have known of its existence had it not been listed as an ingredient.
To repeat a word used a few times in other reviews of this place, my wife thought her fajitas were "meh".
The service was merely okay. I had to ask for ketchup with my fries and we also had to ask for silverware. They did keep the Coca-Cola flowing though.
Next time we crave Mexican, we'll be heading to El Paso.

Anita's used to be THE mexican restaurant of Springfield/Burke. Hot tex-mex cuisine in this cool building with tons of kitschy charm. In about 1996 they decided to renovate. Endearing little Anita's became nouveau mexican disaster. everything white washed, very generic with purple and teal paint. The food was never gourmet but now it's just horrific. the service is slow because the restaurant is never busy. if more than four tables are occupied, the one waitress that works there is pressed for time.
it's so sad what happened to anita's, but i wouldn't recommend you go there either. unless you're starving and greasy huevos rancheros will do the job...

I think Anita's is still a good place to go for Mexican food. The food is good--I have several dishes that I love and several more that are good. Breakfast is also good here and a nice change from fast food. I would never compare it unfavorably to fast food. The decor is not wonderful, but I really don't go out to eat for the decor! The service is mediocre at best--it always has been and we have been eating there for years! I would suggest you give it a try--we go there for a tasty satisfying meal.
