What a wonderful place. The food was flavorful with a wide variety of meat and fish options.  The atmosphere and staff were also a highlight with live music to boot. Our grandmother was visiting from England and our waiter treated her like a Queen. He amicably changed a number of elements to fit her liking with more traditional simple sides like broccoli and spinach while we had more exotic fixins.

The escargot with polenta was great and my stepmom loves the tomato tartar appetizer.  The filet was perfectly cooked and they brought out a sampling of desserts for Grandma at the end.

Was great for a family outing but would also be perfect for a date or romantic dinner.

I absolutely loved this place. From the old-French-cottage look, to the amazing service, to outstanding wine selection, to great food choices, everything was fantastic. They even allowed us to do 2 half-size appetizers that were not on the menu, so that we could try more things than just one.
Definitely try the short rib and the swordfish. Outstanding.

Not one negative thing about the dining experience. I am definitely going back!

P.S. The parking lot is small and kind of tight, especially the backing out part. Just like you're really Europe! :-) If you have a compact-car option, I would definitely recommend doing that. If not, your fancy large SUV will probably be better off parked on the street.

I'd had a http://Restaurant.com certificate for Anis for awhile now, and last night my parents and I decided to put it to good use. None of us had been to Anis in quite sometime - it's a little too easy to forget about, tucked away on a little Buckhead side street - but now we had a reason!!

I was exhausted from a busy week of road-tripping for work, so just sitting down at a cozy bistro-like table was pure pleasure. Our waiter was attentive and helpful. There was a large crowd having a wine tasting fundraiser for some local charity in the large room immediately adjacent to our table, but the hostess kindly shut the doors to block out their noise.

Overall, the experience was good. The three stars are for two main reasons: my entree and the overall noise level of the place - it's just plain loud on the large patio, which is where a majority of the restaurant's seating is (it's covered and heated). It was difficult to hear each other talk at times, and some of the tables, like ours, are a little too close together.

We started with the calamari, which was good though a tad overbreaded (but big enough to share between us all) and accompanied by a nice, slightly spicy and creamy tomato sauce. My mom raved about her trout, which was accompanied by artichoke hearts and asparagus and a light lemon butter sauce. Dad got the osso bucco which was very good, juicy and delicious; I tried it and agreed.

I was leaning towards the saffron pasta with monkfish but our waiter discouraged me from ordering it and steered me towards my other inclination, the filet. I think I should have gone with my first choice. My filet was cooked right, temp-wise, at med rare, but the outside was pretty charred, which I don't like, and it was salty. While the Lyonnaise potatoes were tasty, the haricots vert were also salty, too much so to eat. After all those hours in the car driving back from south Georgia, I was hungry enough to eat most of my meat . . . but I left disappointed.

I'll probably try Anis again at some point, and know there are at least two things on the menu that can be recommended.

Anis is a little gem set beautifully in an updated vintage cottage. When you arrive, it feels as if you've just stepped into an old friend's home.  Expect wonderful service, upbeat, knowledgeable and friendly staff and top notch eats.  I had the salmon salad and was EXTREMELY pleased. It was perfectly seasoned, with a crunchy exterior and a warm soft interior and the greens were fresh and delicious.

No doubt, when I'm back in Atlanta, I will surely dine here again!

We went back in January and had a great experience. Definitely one of the best servers I've had in the city. I love when a waiter is up front about what to try and what to skip on the menu - even if the recs were a bit off.  He brought us generous samples of the wine so we could make a decision as well.

Escargot app was alright, but really enjoyed the lamb sausage. My steak was great as was my date's Osso Bucco.  Standard creme brulee for dessert. Fantastic atmosphere, good food and great service.  I'll be making a return trip.

My wife and I went to Anis for a friends going away party, and from the get go we found the atmosphere to be rather inviting. We walked inside looking for our friends and found a regular hanging out at the bar with a rather chilled-out looking dog sitting on his lap, giving the place a much more laid back feeling.

The food was awesome, but very rich. I had the duck special and they maid a special entree for my wife who's vegetarian. To top it off the staff didn't give her crap for being vegetarian they just took her order like they would anyone else.  The prices were a higher than we're used to paying, but for a special event it was rather nice.

We noticed that parking can be an issue there, but since we walked we didn't have to face that issue. Also as I mentioned the food is good, but very rich, so if you're not used to eating this style of food you may want to take it easy or risk a good stomach ache the next morning.

First the bad - the staff is not terribly attentive and act snooty - either our waiter must be French or likes to play one on TV, erm, I mean at the restaurant.
Now the good - the food is quite excellent.  I had the famous mussels, which were delicious.  My wife and mother shared the calamari.  My wife said it was the 2nd best she'd ever had.
For entrees, my mom had the salmon over risotto with grated endive and loved it.  She took half home and said it was even better the next day.  My wife and I had the steak, and while they did not come out well done (more like half-way between medium and medium well), they still were quite good.
I would highly recommend this place for classic French bistro grub.

Went here for the first time the other night and have to say  I LOVE IT.  This place has the best French Bistro atmosphere you can imagine, like you really are in France.
Now for the food.  I had the pork chop, and don't tell my mom but I have to admit it was better than her's, the best I've ever had.  And the friends I went with, all loved their meals too.  They have a good wine selection too.  I even met the owner during dinner just to check on us, what a personal touch.
If you like French food you need to try this place.

Let me preface this post by saying that I LOVE a good croque monsieur. I've eaten them all over France and in the US - it's one of my absolute favorites. It's such a simple concept - and incredibly delicious when done well and with the right ingredients. That being said, I saw the reviews on this restaurant and that they had a croque monsieur on their lunch menu and was instantly curious.

I really really wanted to like this place - the neighborhood is great (though all the parallel parked cars make it a little hazardous to drive through), and the atmosphere is adorable - but the food...what a disappointment.

My husband and I went there for a weekday lunch, and while the hostess and servers were very friendly and helpful, the food just wasn't up to par in any part of our meal. To start with, the butter that came out with the bread basket was stone cold and flavorless. My croque monsieur was soggy and bland - the bread hadn't been grilled (come on! that's basic!), and the ham and cheese tasted and looked like what you get from the pre-packaged Oscar Mayer deli packs at the supermarket. Maybe this wouldn't have bothered me so much on the ham, but the cheese...it was a flavorless, deli sliced swiss (not using gruyere or emmentaler is pretty much sacrilege in my book), plus it hadn't been broiled, so I missed out on one of my favorite parts of a proper croque monsieur - the bubbly, golden brown, delicious cheese topping. My husband had one of their entree specials - a crab salad over couscous. It was better than my sad croque monsieur, but didn't exactly scream "fresh!"

There is much better food out there.

Quaint patio along with the neighborhood vibe of the place makes this a lovely dinner destination.

Lamb chops are always winners, especially when following up a hearts o' bibb lettuce salad that has a most amazing peppercorn vinaigrette, and raspberries which make it a true taste sensation.  The wine list works, and has suitable selections.

A bit disappointing.
What made it a 4 instead of a 2.5 or 3 star event was the serving staff - again, Mary and the others (the gal from Poland and the guys from Mexico and Tunisia) made the difference.
My beef (or bœuf)?
It wasn't clear at all that Easter Day brunch was going to be a buffet.  I mean, it was okay, but not great.  Plus, it was pretty pricey (they did toss us a bone by not charging our youngest, however).  I was disappointed that the steak ran out, but our Tunisian buddy went to the back and was able to get us some more (he REALLY took care of us - even dealt with the stupid questions from me like "I know some guy from Tunisia named Tarek.  Would you happen to know...?").
At the end, with a nice buzz from the bottle of rosé champagne (and having not had dessert all Lent), I was ready for something sweet and was blown away that we weren't going to have any dessert (and, no, I wasn't going to eat some "French" toast that had been sitting on the buffet table all day).  Again, our servers saved the day and brought us some stuff (sorbet and creme brûlée) - boy, being a loud pushy Cuban saves the day sometimes, huh?

Net net, it was a good day, but because we worked it.  We'll come back, but it'll be the UF and I at the bar rather than the whole crew.

The French food here is straight forward, fresh and very good. The wine list is great and reasonable. The service is wishy washy. The prices are escalated to cover the stock/ real estate/ insurance brokers who are bringing their "sugar mamma" client for a leisurely French lunch on a charming little covered patio.

Every time I eat here I tell myself that it was not worth it.... then I find myself longing for a good white wine, simple salad and mussels & frites and I'm back. I guess that keeps the place in business.

Anis was my destination when I was craving moules & frites (mussels and fries) after watching a Bobby Flay special about the dish.

We first went with a party of 6 on a Sunday evening, unfortunately they were out of mussels (and mentioned they usually are on Sundays), so we had to improvise.  Some memorable dishes were a monkfish pasta dish and a fish specia, I had a very tasty duck special.  I also had a very good Caipirinha drink and another person in our party enjoyed a bellini.  The service during this visit was good, the waitress seemed to have worked there for some time, was knowledgeable about the menu and had a wry wit.

My wife and I went back a week or two later and this time I was able to satisify my Moules jones.  The mussels and fries dish was very large and filling, the mussels were plump and tasty.  The waitress was very good on this trip too, indeed she provided us an excellent Profiteroles (puff pastry) dessert for no charge, and it was very yummy.

The patio is the way to go as long as it isn't too hot outside, because Anis is on a fairly quiet side street its a very pleasant experience, the second time we went there was a musician playing classical style guitar.

Charming little restaurant in the Buckhead area.  Went there for lunch.  This converted house was cute with great patio seating for sun as well as lots of shady tables.

Started with the tomato basil soup, which was good, but didn't taste much basil in the flavor.  Had the steak frites cooked medium rare.  They did something magical because I was expecting it to be more chewy for a skirt steak.  Frites were freshly made which was a plus.  Also ordered a glass of Bouchard Burgundy which was ok.  Went for the pear tarte for dessert, tasty as well.

Host was very nice and service was great.  Will be going back to try some of the other menu items.

I loved the outdoor cafe atmosphere, hidden away in a street corner feel of this place. The food was great. The portions were good, the price was reasonable and service was good. Definitely a place I would come back when I visit again. I had their chicken salad sandwich and their calamari was delicioso!!!

Disclaimer: My husband knows the Executive Chef and we only paid for our wine and a generous tip.

Love the great cozy neighborhood atmosphere.  You would never know this place was here unless you were looking for it.  On to the food... started off with the Tomato Tartare, which was good but I would have rather have had a plain old Insalata Caprese (I know... it's not French, it's Italian).  Next, the Famous Mussels... and yes they deserve the title of "Famous" as they were famously good... maybe even the best that I've had outside of France.  Next the entrees, we had a fish, a beef, and the special of the night which was pork.  The fish was pan roasted (trout maybe?) and was served with summer vegetables and an awesome sauce.  The beef was two cuts of beef in one dish (I think it consisted of a medallion of the bistro steak, which was awesome, and a small filet of beef.  I guess the chef was trying to give us a sampler of everything) on top of potatoes with jus, which was a tad salty.  The special that night, the pork, was served with swiss chard and turnips in another awesome sauce.  I love pork, but would have loved the dish more if the pork had been served on the bone.  For dessert, we had a sampler plate with a spoonful of crème brûlée, flourless chocolate cake, and a sorbet.  The crème brûlée and sorbet were great.  The cake?  Not so much.

Oh, and the bread!  The bread comes out warm (sometimes actually pretty hot) and is fantastic.  Make sure you sop up all of those amazing sauces with your bread!  Especially the broth that the mussels are in... yum.

This is one of my favorite "patio" restaurants in Atlanta.  The atmosphere is very relaxed, yet elegant.  The menu is limited, but varied enough that anyone in the group can find something that suits their tastes.

Definitely a little more expensive than some restaurants (three entrees, two glasses of wine and two desserts ran us $101), but the food is quality.  I had the hand-cut pasta with shrimp and it was absolutely great.  The portions were generous, and don't miss the creme brulee for dessert.

Live music several times a week, maybe request sitting on the other side of the patio from the band so it's not too loud.

I'll be back!

This bistro occupies an old house and is somewhat hidden from the bustle of buckhead.  Menu is short and focused but feels a bit run-of-the-mill.  The daily specials help somewhat, but the tarnish remains in the collective absence of pot-au-feu, coq au vin, and any pork entree.  It seems like the bouillabaisse just got taken out of the menu recently, too.

Food tastes good (if unimpressive) and comes simply presented, with a tendency that most appetizers are larger than entrees. Cryspy Calamari and PEI Mussels are humongous (though the mussels' quality leaves much to be desired), even the escargots can potentially be a meal if paired with enough of the crusty bread ubiquitously served in French bistros.   Entrees tend to be starch deprived, but they do showcase the various vegetables which I think are cooked and paired really well, and hold your interests in general.  It might be one of their strong points.

Nearly everywhere you read, a review of this restaurant will mention how suitable it is for a romantic dinner.  I would agree.  Especially with the rustic old house and a cute patio, live music three nights a week.  But be adviced that the clientele are mostly older buckhead residents, and you will see at least one navy blazer.

I found this to be a lovely French restaurant. The menu is small but varied, and I had a hard time deciding what I wanted to eat. The food is authentically French, mussels, steak & frites, croque monsieur, et cetera.

The atmosphere is unique and cozy, hidden away from the craziness. I had a glass of wine, the farmhouse platter, the salade maison, steak & frites, and split the creme brulee and pear tart with my friends. All was very delicious.

Our server assumingly dropped the bill in front of my date and turned to walk away without saying a word.  I, however, had plenty of choice words I would have liked to share with him.

One star for the ambience and one for the live band.  Minus three stars for the attitude and stuffy vibes emanating from our server ... and for the food that was far from memorable.

I ordered the Pan Roasted Atlantic Salmon, served over a bed of Roquefort Risotto that was so rich it remained untouched after the first bite.  And I'm a risotto lover.  Julienned pears drenched in bitter vinegar were piled atop the offending dish.  Thank goodness for the yummy bottle of pinot noir and chill music that calmed my nerves and made for a pleasant night despite the service.

Situated on a quiet street, you'll almost feel like you're crashing your neighbor's dinner party where they welcome you in and offer you a glass of wine. On my visit, it was exactly what I needed it to be - a good date place. Some of the tables for two against the wall are quite close together, and we ended up closing the place down after making friends with another couple of happy-off-wine patrons. A very intimate feel and ambiance where I would return!

I went there for the romantic atmosphere and they weren't too busy even though it was a Saturday night at prime time.  We had the choice of our seating and took a more intimate location in the dining room and the ambiance was nice.  The food is french, which means don't expect big portions and they were kind of small.  They came out VERY fast because I guess they weren't too busy.  The martnin's were excellent, but felt rushed because everything just came out so fast.  I tried the duck, which was new to me and thought it was good.  My wife had the scallops appetizer and thought it was good.  All in all, it was good but not great.  We probably wouldn't go back because of all the other restaurants we could go in Buckhead and nothing really stood out as amazing.

Anis is a charming old bungalow-style house with an even more charming patio.  Situated on a peaceful buckhead street, the dining experience at Anis is second to none -  with the glowing patio lights, a relaxing jazz band, and a bottle of wine - this is as close to France as you can get in Metro Atlanta.  As for the food, the veal bistro steak was absolutely amazing and I can't stop raving about it.  Cooked medium, it was more tender and flavorful than any Fillet I've ever had.  I also tried the salmon which was just okay, and  I don't recommend the calamari.  Wine prices were reasonable.  I would definitely go back to Anis again.

I'm hard pressed to find many bad things to say about Anis. It's profoundly romantic, it has an excellent porch, the food is reasonably priced for the quality and the atmosphere is extremely laid-back for what it is. Highly recommended, its in the neighborhood and I don't get there nearly as much as I should, especially in this weather.

I'm dying laughing at the comment about the service being too fast because one of the reasons I love this place is the quirky, slow, very French service. I've never had fast service here! Great place to linger over dinner. I hadn't been in close to a year and went last weekend. I must say I was surprised at how good it was. I always get the salad maison. I had a striped bass special that was in a vanilla broth - so good that we got the ingredient list from the chef. Hubby had veal tenderloin - so tasty! Good French wine list that has a range of prices. Some of the best cappucinos in town. We skipped dessert, but they're usually good. On a nice warm (not hot) night, there's no place I'd rather be than the patio here. But even now when it's cold, the inside is cozy and the patio is enclosed with heaters. If you've never been or haven't been in a while, give it a try. My first visit was probably 14 years ago and it's still good...
