Anini Beach actually stretches out for a mile.  this review covers the section towards the end of the Anini Beach road.

instead of driving, we walked down the beach access path by the Westin Princeville.  be careful, it's a really loose and steep slope. this was our first mistake, as we made the trek with flip flops, and we were carrying the munchkin in our arms....

the path dumps you out 75 feet from the mouth of a small freshwater stream.  the first impressions are... it's a crappy beach, where are the pounding waves, and why is there only a narrow spit of sand walk on?

don't snorkel around this area.  you can't see anything, and as an added bonus, the suspended silt gets embedded in your hair.

instead, walk west-ways a bit, and the water quality gets MUCH better.  the average water depth on this side of the beach is about 3-4 feet.  meaning, you can walk out about 200 yards, and barely be past chest depth.  i could have gone further, but i didn't want to disobey the cardinal rule of ocean swimming.... aka don't go at it alone.

also, different from ke'e, tunnels, ha'ena, or polihale there doesn't seem to be any undertow here, which is nice because that means the munchkin got to stick her bum in the pacific ocean without a paranoid mommy and daddy hovering over her.

there are supposed to be some awesome houses out here.  unfortunately, since we didn't drive in, we didn't get to see any of them.  no way i'm carrying munchkin, and a bag of wet towels up anini road... just to play tourist.  perhaps next time!

oh, btw, walking back UP the hill while carrying a munchkin and bag of wet towels is not fun.

Wonderful beach for those seeking calm waters.  Really nice area for those who like to gawk at rich folks homes too.

My only complaint is that the sand along the shore is a bit rough for those with sensitive tootsies.  But you do see 3 year olds walking around so suck it up for the nice calm water and beautiful view of the vast ocean in front of you.  You also see schools of little fishies just a few feet from shore.

We loved going to Anini Beach for two main reasons.  First is the nice relaxing part of the beach past the main park.  Even though the main park area was not crowded, we liked the smaller beach beyond the park due to more seclusion and nice palm tree shade.  Picture perfect on a nice day.

The second reason is the taco truck here (not listed on Yelp).  The no-BS beach bum that runs the truck whips up very grub.  Our favorites were the calamari, shrimp and fish - in that order.  Try the "double decker" variation (cannot recall the proper name) too.

This beach has public bathrooms, outdoor showers, a boat ramp with limited use, and decent parking.

This is a fantastic beach for those who want to play in the ocean without waves that can be too powerful.  Kids can play here, and there is a large area where the water flows from the ocean, but has very little current.
There are even a few places where the locals have put up ropes where you can splash into the water from little channels coming from the ocean.

Would be 5 stars, except you will be using the port-a-potty, as the bathrooms are way over in one side, and the other side has only a couple of portables.

I can't say enough about this stretch of beach!  It seems to go for miles and miles and you can find a piece of it for yourself to explore without running into other people!  The reef rocks scattered here and there with plenty of sea life to keep you busy watching!  Quiet serene peaceful and just incredible twilight sunsets!

The perfect beach for all non-wave-oriented beach activities.

There's a fairly consistent breeze here, making it a great place to learn windsurfing or kite sailing. Also, incredible snorkeling.

There are bathrooms for changing and little picnic areas, plus, when we were there, there was a taco truck parked along the road. I didn't have any of their food (was rockin' a tempeh burger from Mango Mama's (http://www.yelp.com/bi...), but the rest of my family had burritos and quesadillas which they loved.

There's decent natural shade along the beach, as provided by trees, and the water is so gentle that it makes a great baby beach.

Be warned, though - guidebooks mention a pretty strong channel / rip out to sea on one end or the other of the beach (don't recall which).

I dream about the taco truck here. The fish tacos are amazing and the Sara Special is like nothing I've ever had.  An extensive array of exotic hot sauces await you for ampling. Also the guy doesn't give you change which is awesome. I sat in the park here on a gloomy afternoon in July and had a taco truck lunch and I wish I was there now.
