Review from Arnold E.
Yes, I like anime. Yes, I am NOT Japanese (like many, many anime fans out there). Yes, I own a Gundam figurine and occasionally take it out of its box to play with. And, yes, I realize that taking this toy out of it's special container and actually touching it with my hands renders it 'used' and, thus, decreases its value. So, yes, I'm a big nerd.
What can I say? I love watching anime. I appreciate it as an art form, but am disgusted by cheesy American-English voice-overs (anyone with me here?). Japanese animation has Western animation beat in terms of smoothness, crazy stories, and overall artistry. I suppose the anal retentive/OCD side of me is attuned to the Japanese style of and dedication to this art form. Or, like I said before, maybe I'm just a big nerd.
I've loved anime/Japanimation since I was an itty bitty kid (e.g. - Transformers, Robotech, Voltron, Starblazers, Tranzor Z, Akira, Vampire Hunter D, Bubblegum Crisis, Ninja Scroll, Dangaio, Fist of the North Star, Appleseed, Cowboy Bebop, and anything by Hayao Miyazaki). I still enjoy watching it today. Does my wife make fun of me to this day for enjoying cartoons? Of course! She has 'American Idol' and 'Dancing with the Stars'...I have all my anime DVDs. When you stop and think about it, we're both nerds in our own rights...right?
Anyway, let me just say that Anime Japan (formerly Anime Combo) in Fullerton is a great place for anime, soundtracks, manga, toys and collectibles (no Sanrio!). They have quite a collection of stuff for such a small store. My guess is that they've got a lot more out back or on its way via UPS or FedEx. If it's in some foreign language, imported, and wrapped in a protective plastic cover, it's probably here. If it's not here, it's probably in some other nerd's private collection. You'll have to go elsewhere for that stuff. I used to stop by here after picking up some boba next door (Tapioca Express) to just browse or pick up some toys for class auctions for my students, but I hadn't visited in some time. After visiting the other day, I was pleasantly surprised to see an increase in their inventory and selection.
The staff here are very knowledgeable and were able to answer many of my questions when I was looking for a new series to watch/collect. I had it narrowed down to three boxed sets: Neon Genesis Evangelion, Full Metal Panic!, and RahXephon. After talking with one of the employees and getting some reviews and summaries of the series, I went with the last title. I suppose I'll have to update this review as to whether his recommendation was a good one. -

Uh for those that didn't know by now this place closed down years ago. I dunno why yelp doesn't do anything about this despite that I sent a notification long ago.

Went to tap x and when I parked I realized I was infront of an anime shop. Dunno when it opened kinda weird how it jus magically appeared. After I got boba I decided to check it out, they have hella anime stuff like comic books n cds dvd etc. What interested me was the super mario powerup mushroom. I got a little red mushroom for my car cost around 6 bucks but for the sudden boost in hp it gives totally worth it :)
