I recommend all of my clients to AMC,  this place is clean, friendly, honest and lacks pushy sales tactics.  They genuinely have your animal's best interest in mind.

I'm a HUGE fan of Dr. England

A friend of mine had a very positive experience at AMC (esp. with Dr. Janik) with her cat suffering from IBS/colitis.  Based on her recommendation, I took my very elderly and very beloved (and now dearly departed) Chronic Renal Failure cat to AMC for care.  I had a good experience with all the vets she saw there, but have a special place in my heart for Dr. England.  He was very good with my cat Roothy (and I also have a crush on him, but I swear that doesn't affect my opinion of the care Roothy received).
Know this: AMC is a top-of-the-line vet service.  Roothy, at a very advanced stage of CRF, underwent general anesthesia to have a broken tooth removed.  The vets would not perform surgery without a full panoply of blood work beforehand, plus a separate anesthesiologist on hand during the entire surgery, plus some other special care given her condition and age.  YOU WILL BE PAYING A LOT FOR THIS LEVEL OF ATTENTION.  And honestly, it may not be worth it, especially if you have a pet who does NOT need this kind of attention and expertise.
I give them four rather than five stars because it really is very expensive, and they will not tell you, "You can do this procedure and it will cost this much.  These are the consequences of that choice, your other options, and how much they will cost."  You have to ask.  That is unpleasant, and it makes you feel like a cheap bastard who doesn't love her fuzzy friend.  I had to do this several times, disputing things on my bill, asking whether they were necessary, etc.  Once or twice Roothy was given an unnecessary treatment I had not explicitly authorized (such as a worm test on a cat who had lived indoors for the past 20 years) and I had to ask to have the charge reversed, which again, made me feel like an asshole.
Bottom line:  This is a vet for well-heeled yuppies.  I am a well-heeled yuppie so  I was mostly  very happy with them.  If you are the same, you will be, too.

Back in the 1990's, my boyfriend's cat, Minky, had a severe eye infection. We had been taking her to a different veterinarian practice here in Chicago for several weeks but she was not getting any better. That's when we decided to bring Minky to Dr. Solomon at AMC for a second opinion.
Dr. Solomon took a look at Minky's eye and immediately asked if there were any dry plants in the house. It turns out that there were and Minky had been getting too close to the plants and scratching her eye on the dry leaves. I was amazed -- in just a few minutes time, she had come up with the cause of Minky's eye infection. It was almost as if she had psychic abilities! Dr. Solomon prescribed an ointment, the dry plants were relocated to a place out of Minky's reach, and the problem cleared up within a week.
Well, since that time, I have brought all of my cats to AMC and have never considered taking them elsewhere. The other vets in the practice are great too, as well as the techs and other staff members. My cats are like children to me and I feel like they are safe in their hands. I could not recommend AMC more highly.

As I sit here on the bed, perusing my babies medical records and scheduling our next appointment during our up-coming visit to Chicago, I realize that I have been remiss in writing a review of this great place. Dr. England and his crew have earned this write-up for the excellent care that they have taken of Bob and Lily, our two Boston babies, over the past 3 years.

Our path to veterinary nirvana was not an easy one. We went through several vets in Chicago. And rejected them all. Not caring enough, too judgmental, too quick to medicate, to slow to react, bad diagnosticians - a whole gamut reasons for rejection. We are very, very picky with who we allow to take care of our babies.

But we need someone special since our babies love to get into trouble. You name it and they eat it...plants, pens, rocks, firewood, pillow stuffing...everything they can get their little mouths around. So we are lucky to have Dr. England, Dr. Schnitker, Dr. Solomon, and the rest of the team. Every time they eat something they shouldn't Dr. England has them eat a special binding food that helps the bad stuff come out without damaging their insides.

The babies are also very sensitive to vaccines. We have nearly lost Bob to an adverse vaccine reaction at his prior vet and Lily isn't much better. But we haven't had a single emergency since Dr. England began treating them because they put together a careful protocol of only one vaccine at a time, along with Benedryl injections.

I also like their Pet Portal website. It puts all of the babies' medical records at my fingertips. and makes scheduling visits or ordering medicine very convenient. And, since we always vacation with babies in tow, it is great that they have been willing to ship their meds to us where ever we are when we have run out or lost it.

But the best part is that these Drs are members of the community and pet owners themselves. It is great running into Dr. Schnitker at Trader Joe's and the others around the LP/Lakeview area. I know they are going to take great care of my babies because it's like trusting a good neighbor.

As good as it gets!  Everyone at AMC is amazing.  Kind, courteous animal lovers.
I moved to Chicago 2 1/2 yrs. ago with my now 4 yr. old Labradoodle Baxter.
This vet office came highly recommended.
So, Baxter and I decided to give it a try!  Very knowledgeable, welcoming and extremely helpful!  They Welcomed Baxter as a new addition to the AMC family with open arms.

We've been taking our 4-legged kids to AMC for welllll over a decade now.   To our previous vet our pets seemed to be a number and source of revenue.  At AMC they really care.  They are friendly, gentle, supportive, professional and of course - the best of experts.  This applies to EVERYONE there - form the techs to the Doctors.  My dog actually loves going to see them - she PULLS me in their direction whenever I'm in the area.

If you care about your pets and want the best for them AMC is the right place for you.
    Sincerely,
    Bonnie S & Jim G

I've been going to the AMC for since the late 90s and I'll keep going back. And I don't live close!  I am willing to drive from the Indiana border for their excellent care.  I started going to them with a cat that I had inherited in exchange for a parking spot.  That cat was the kind that had issues, trust me.  When I first got him, he bit my face but from then on, we were buddies.  I took him in to the AMC for shots, checkups etc and he was as docile as one could expect a crazy cat to be.  Probably because he knew that they're all animal lovers.

Alas that cat is long gone, but when we adopted our first dog, Truman, the first place I thought of was the AMC for his shots and care.  They were thorough, gentle and best of all, on time! The vet techs are always super friendly and attentive and he actually likes going there. (A childhood dog couldn't stand going to the vet and somehow always knew when he was about to go.) Dr. Janik is very nice but all business when it comes to great care.  I've been going to her since the crazy cat so I know what I'm talking about.

They now take care of our other dog, Daisy, and she loves to go too! What is going on with this world?

Dogs that like to go to the vet?

Crazy cats that don't bite their faces?

Followup calls to make sure they're OK?

My returned calls asking for advice?

It's like having a pediatrician for dogs!

I've recommended AMC to many people looking for a great vet. And trust me, it's well worth the drive.

I have been going to AMC for over ten years and have never had a problem.  In fact I owe my dog's life to them.  I brought her in to have her teeth cleaned and they noticed her skin in her mouth looked strange.  They did biopsies but they came back benign. The vet insisted she felt something was wrong so we did a MRI to find out that she had a malignant tumor inside the benign.  They said if we hadn't found it she would have only lived another 3 months.  Their dedication had saved her life and we can never repay them.

I have been taking my Cavalier King Charles, Jordan, to the Animal Medical Center of Chicago for about three and a half years now.  I first went there on a recommendation and I am so glad I did. They are always friendly, helpful, informative and great with my dog.   I appreciate how quickly I can get an appointment even if it is short notice.   I have had to bring in Jordan as an emergency and we got seen right away and she was taken care of quickly.   The staff and technicians always follow up to see how my dog is doing.   Everyone who works there loves dogs which was always a priority for me.  I will continue to take my dog there because they take such great care of her!

Animal Medical Center has been my and my pets vet for over the last 15 years. I brought my Golden Retriever best friend and buddy Luci there from the time she was a puppy then thru out her 14 years. Animal Medical Center took great car of Luci at every stage of her life. We now have another Golden and AMC is our vet of choice we have confidence in their knowledgeable friendly staff. They also seem to have all the up to date veterinary equipment to take care of the cats and dogs that walk thru their door.  I highly recommend.

My dog has been seen by Animal Medical Center a handful of times now and we've always been treated fairly and honestly. From the front desk staff to the Vets, everyone is really friendly and are true animal lovers. I always feel that my dog's best interests are kept in mind during the examinations and recommendations.  They've been able to squeeze us into appointments when my pup wasn't feeling too hot, which was a big relief, but of course, I don't recommend making a habit of that.

I would definitely recommend AMC to others.

Everyone at AMC is really wonderful - from the techs to the doctors they clearly love their jobs and their patients! Dr. Janik in particular was great with my cat Luna who had a really serious heart condition.  She would even get on the phone with me to talk through his symptoms so that I didn't always have to bring him in and cause him more stress.  This is a really great place. My only complaint is that it is more on the expensive side - especially for big things like dental work etc.

This place was a 5-star experience from the first phone call to the card they sent me after my visit.  My aunt brings her dog here, so when I was having a problem with my hamster, they were the first ones I called.  The staff was very kind, prompt and helpful in their response.  They were able to fit me in the same day.  The facility itself is very nice and clean, probably one of the best animal hospitals I've ever seen.  I saw Dr. England and I was very impressed with how knowledgeable and kind he was.  My poor hamster was in serious pain and suffering and he helped me come to the decision that the best thing to do was to put him to sleep.  I cannot express how kind the Dr. was during this whole process.  He even helped me donate the cage.  Then a few days later, I received a very nice sympathy card from him with my little guy's paw prints on a separate card inside and a note that a donation has been made to a shelter in his name.  I am so grateful to have the paw prints as a remembrance.  It was a very sad experience to lose my little guy, but this hospital made it as best an experience as could be.

I've brought my dog, Winston, here for the past 3 years; ever since he was a puppy.  One thing I can definitely say about the practice is that they LOVE their animals.  I love how they gush all over him whenever he comes in.  He gets pretty nervous at the vet, but the doctors are always so gentle with him, and are sweet to pull out a treat to ease the experience!

I was adopted almost 2 years ago by a cat who decided that my boyfriend was the guy to hang out with in front of a busy hotel near downtown and I was called in for the rescue. I called the vet I walk past all the time by my house because I had never had an animal in the city, but since they don't accept new patients I was referred to AMC.

They were able to see me right away and Mickey has since decided that he chose the best people ever and part of that is because we take him to AMC (and spoil him to no end in every other way possible too.) While I wouldn't say that he LIKES them (who really likes their doctor cat or human?) we love them for being able to take care of him. From the first day we brought him in with only a towel to see if he had a chip (and his tiny 4-month-old paws walked all over their counter while he enjoyed all of the attention from everyone at the desk) to the days he was getting baby food treats to convince him to come out of hiding for shots to the last time when we were there because he decided scratching and not eating were his new things, I don't think that I could be any happier with them. They make sure he is comfortable every time (he has a note in his file that says "please don't pick me up or I'll scream" from when they had to draw blood) and by the end he doesn't want to come back home and leave all of his new friends.

I read all of the reviews before taking him, and the only thing that I was afraid of was them trying to add unnecessary procedures (and $$), but I haven't had ANY problem with this - he's happy and healthy and is very content only seeing his doctor (Dr. J) for check-ups. And I'm happy it doesn't empty my wallet to see them when I'm concerned about something!

This rating is also reflected by my two pups who come flying in to the AMC with wagging tails ready for cuddles! Yep all that happiness to visit their vet!

I have continued to be impressed by the community and endearing relationships with these folks. When I first came to them it was with the realization that my aging dog deserved a more loving environment for his care. I was very impressed by the observations in the lobby that most of the patients were long-lasting clients.

I have had some great conversations with the staff over the years regarding when to wait and see verses treat symptoms aggressively. I think that these type of dialogues reflect the thought and humane aspect of their team who are not pushing a sale (like other places I tried prior).

Another testament to how much I enjoy the relationship I have fostered with these kind and informative folks is that I drive from the South side to see them!

Overall, I have been completely satisfied with the care my dog has received at AMC. The vet is always friendly and encouraging, to both my pet and me. The vet also seems well informed. She explained the need for a new vaccine for my dog in a very understandable way. All the vet techs have been just as friendly and enjoyable to deal with.

I particularly appreciate the proactive approach that AMC uses. Through their online pet portal, I can easily keep track of my dog's care and I get email reminders when I need to bring her in for various tests or refills. Although it is a little disheartening that my dog's health records are more organized and more easily accessible, especially online, than my own...

My only concern is that the price is rather high. I understand the you-can't-put-a-price-on-your-pet's-life argument, but AMC does seem slightly more expensive than other vets in the area. With that said, I'm happy to pay the premium for convenience (I live two blocks away) and quality of care.

I've been going here for 5 years now. I am completely confident in the level of care they give, which is probably why I've been going for so long. I guess because I've luckily only had to go once  a year with my dog for her annual check up and shots, I haven't thought about changing vets. But after talking with friends after my last vet visit, I feel like my experience might not measure up to others at other vets.

First, I was made to feel guilty for not getting this new vaccine they're offering for some infection. Then, I felt guilty for not scheduling another teeth cleaning appointment. (Last time I got my dog's teeth cleaned it was just under $1,000 and my bulldog came home all sick and sad. She wouldn't play rope toy for 3 months after that cleaning! Rope toy is her favorite thing in the whole world.)

Second, maybe it's just me feeling sensitive, but when I visit AMC, I just feel like I'm doing everything wrong. The vet techs are nice but the doctors aren't very warm.

But what bothers me most is that there is not even a hint of discussion of prices of anything. My husband was there and he asked a lot of the good questions that I feel like a bad dog mom for asking, like "how different is this prescription medicine your recommending versus Benadryl?" and "Do we really need the special prescription powder or would general cornstarch work?"
I can't leave the place without spending $500.

Just a few days before Christmas day, 2010 I walked outside of my front door to see three kittens cold, shaking, and hungry under a parked car. It was definitely a site to be seen and I almost didn't know what to do with myself considering I'm allergic to cats.

I decided I would coerce the kittens into my apartment with some food, and with a little convincing I was able to lure them in. I Googled nearby vets and came across AMC. I called and made an appointment for one kitten (because a friend of mine decided she would take it and pay me back for the costs of a checkup). Yet, when I mentioned that I had two more kittens, they made sure I brought all three in.

Here is a blog post I wrote about it for those who may not believe the craziness of this story http://wakeupsoul.word... (I don't blog anymore though).

The staff at AMC were absolutely amazing, hands-down the best vet I have ever been to for any of my animals. They didn't even charge me for the two other kittens checkup's considering I hadn't yet found them homes. It was quite a blessing.

I would HIGHLY recommend AMC to anyone looking for a safe, loving, professional, and caring vet. I do not currently have any pets, and I managed to find homes for all three cats. If I were to get a pet again, I would surely bring it to AMC without a second thought.

    Thank You ALL, Again! :)

I have had nothing but positive experiences with the vets and staff at Animal Medical Center of Chicago. Picking a veterinarian for my good girl Lucy seemed daunting to me with so many doctors to choose from, most of which seem to look at a pet owner with dollar signs in their eyes. There's no doubt that investing in my dog's health is, well, an investment, but AMC has always been genuinely interested in her health and it showed.

I recently moved out west and called AMC to have Lucy's 2-year-old rabies vaccination records faxed over to my county's ACC for her dog license, and Molly was kind and willing to help. A little bit of that goes a long way with me. Sadly we won't be making any future visits with these guys from out here, but at least I can recommend them to all my fellow Chicagoan pet owners. Thank you AMC!

I started coming to Animal Medical Center about 2 years ago when I adopted a new cat (after my old cat mysteriously died during dental surgery at a different neighborhood vet).
Dr. Englund is awesome.  He cares about animals and always gives me good advice when I ask questions.  All of the vet techs I have dealt with are great too.  I took my cat in today and he had an accident in his carrier on the way.  They cleaned it up for me and put in a pad in case he had an accident on the way home (which he did... lol).  Anyway I thought that was really nice of them, and I've been meaning to write a good review for a while.
Also they have a good website where you can track your pet's records, and they send you reminders for appointments, checkups, vaccines, etc.
    Great place.

In all honesty I must say that I have never beenas pleased with vet services as I have been with Donna, Tim and the rest of the staff at Animal Medical Center. Truth of the matter is I had another vet that I used for years. I moved and still drove to their clinic. When I discovered that AMC was very close to me I I decided, with trepidation, to give them a try. I was so pleased with their service that I have used them ever since. When my girls,Trudy and Brenda both needed major surgery I was called hourly to let me know how things were progressing. The best thing is that my girls get so excited when they are in the car and recognize that we're on our way to the vet !!! Give AMC a try, you won't be disappointed.

When looking for a vet, I had heard some horror stories about how little some of the vets care for pets, and really just look for the dollar signs.  This couldn't be farther from the truth here.  The staff at AMC is wonderful!  They really care about the pets that they see, and they love our cat!  They've always been spot on in diagnosing issues, and got our cat on a weight loss trial that has really paid off (almost 2lbs in 6 weeks!).

I'm definitely going to be coming here as long as I have pets and am in Chicago.

Pros:  Very thoughtful staff who cares about your pet.  Very nice vet office with parking in back which is convenient.  And, I appreciate their "pet portal" website that helps you stay organized with your pet's medical history.

Cons:  I don't appreciate being up-sold on optional vaccines and tests that my dog doesn't really need.  I always leave there spending way more than intended for unnecessary treatments.   And, recently they called me to tell me that they gave my dog an expired rabbies vaccine so we should come back to get another one.  They handled this mistake well with a gentle phone call.  They were apologetic but just inconvenient and surprising for a vet that charges on the top end of vets.

We recently switched over to a different vet who seems to be just as highly regarded but not as expensive.

I really love that this is where I take my little "baby."  The veterinarians are so kind and concerned; the staff is amazing.  When I picked up my dog after getting spayed, the technician seemed so sad to have her leave!  They really seem to take a personal stake in your pet's health.

My dog recently came down with a pretty serious stomach bug and they were able to fit me in for an emergency appointment.  The vet was so happy to see my dog again because she had remembered really liking her from the last appointment.   The doctor was so gentle and kind during the appointment that my sick little dog was actually sneaking the vet "kisses" during the exam!

Unfortunately, if you are looking for an inexpensive vet: this is not your place.  You do pay a premium, but for me it's worth it.

I walked in as a last-minute emergency appointment.  I was really pleased that they were able to accommodate me with such short notice, and I didn't even have to wait that long.

Dr. Martel helped me out that morning and I can tell he is really passionate about animals.  He was so sweet to me and my sick little kitty.  I felt more relaxed after meeting him and seeing how he treats animals.  What really blew me away was that on top of everything he was super sick with a head cold.  Anyone who can wake up that early all congested feeling like crap AND handle the stress of an emergency with such kindness just can't be beat!

The rest of the staff was really sweet to me too.  The ladies at the front desk were really understanding and professional, and the vet techs were the same!

I knew this place was a little pricey--they charged me $50 for a next day 5 min followup--but I really don't mind, considering my cat got top-notch care.  The icing on the cake is the really nice hand-written card I got in the mail from Dr. Martel.  I will definitely bring my cat back here!

I just took my Reggie there for the first time, and we both enjoyed the experience.  The office is easy to find and they have off-street parking.  The building appears to be 100-year-old renovated home in front / modern medical facility in back.

We were welcomed the second we arrived and made to feel right at home.  The wait for the doctor was short, and everyone was very nice.  The vet tech and Dr. Martel both took their time to learn about Reggie's past and any concerns that I had. They explained everything in easy to understand language, and didn't make me feel too bad about not brushing his teeth every day - but still communicated the importance. I hate being lectured to, and they clearly communicated without making me feel like a terrible parent. The visit was very efficient, and they sent me away with a dental care package.  Reggie normally doesn't care for vet visits, but he enjoyed every second of it. We'll definitely be back.

My little beagador loves this place. He's allergic to just about every ingredient in every single dog food, including organic and/or hypoallergenic foods. Dr. Solomon at Animal Medical Center took an appointment for him same-day when he scratched his eye until it closed shut. He had lost a lot of his hair, and it didn't look good.

It's been about 3 or 4 months, and my dog is looking excellent. We found a food that doesn't make him itch violently, and I don't come home to find blood on my floor anymore. It's such a relief to finally have this allergy under control, and it's all because of this vet (They were the fifth vet I took him to for this allergy and the only one who I stuck with because they actually cared).

The Vet Techs there are so caring for animals. They love my dog and give it kisses, and they don't seem like they hate their jobs. Dr. Solomon has a good vet practice going.

The only thing keeping me from a 5-star review is that their prices are a little high. I realize that veterinary care in Chicago is NOT cheap, but I'm from Michigan... Vets are very cheap there, so I'm biased.

New to Chicago and am so pleased I found these guys. I rang them on Friday, and they were able to fit us in on Monday. When I arrived they gave us a friendly welcome and were on time. The clinic is a converted Victorian home modernized, styley, and super clean. My vet was Dr Janik. On first meeting, I'd describe her as pragmatic and personable. The clinic loses a star for the sticker-shock - although based on reviews of other vets, maybe it's a Chicago thing? There's parking out front (tow zone 4-6pm M-F), and out back.

Oh, and I got an email this morning with login to a web page for our dog. It has his medications (with a reorder button), vaccinations dates, settable email reminders, vet visits, and the ability to upload a photo of him too. Snazzy!

So, my poor pup ate rat poison last week. It was scattered all over our back yard, and as the emergency vet tech said, "it's delicious! Like M&Ms!".

Anyway, after inducing vomit and having one of the worst Thursday mornings in the history of Thursday mornings, we determined (with the help of an emergency vet hotline) she would be ok for the next 24hrs until I could get her into the regular vet and not pay emergency fees.

Well, we didn't exactly have a regular vet at the moment, so I just called the place right down the street. They were super nice and helpful and got us in the next afternoon. Everyone was great while we were there, and while it did cost a chunk of change, I felt like we were in very awesome hands the whole time. Plus, without a car it's so much easier just to walk (or carry) my pooch a couple blocks.

Anyway, without the crazy blood work to test clotting times and whatever, this vet isn't any more expensive than the the place I went to  in Michigan, and I'm happy to pay for fantastic service and convenience.

I recently took my pup Jack to see Dr. Pamela Janik. We loved this place!

There's parking in the back and we were checked in and into a room straight away. The tech took Jack for a quick nail trim while we waited to see Dr. Janik and he was treated to some tasty baby food while he got his second round of immunizations. He was so happy, he didn't even squeak. Additionally, I just felt like I got a ton of great info from both the tech and Dr. Janek. A little toothbrush kit and how to use it, de-worming pill, preventive Frontline and tips on where he should be in his training.

I loved all of the extra info, promptness and accommodation. Look forward to bringing Jack back soon!

I was referred by another animal hospital who said they couldn't get me in for a month. I was able to make an appointment for first thing this morning (calling at 4 p.m. yesterday) for a check up, etc., in order to get sedatives for a long trip in the car (for the cats!)

Everyone was wonderfully nice and helpful. They made suggestions and asked if I would like certain things but didn't make me feel bad for one second when I turned down everything and said I would be setting up shop with a vet when I get to my new home.

They were wonderful to my cats, gave me extra sedatives just in case my fatties need it, and I got a 10% discount for having multiple pets!
I highly recommend. They were wonderful. And there's plenty of parking in the area, which is important when you're carting two fatties around!

I've been taking my dogs there for over 12 years and even though it's far from me, I would never go anywhere else. When Dr. Janik moved there from an animal hospital on the far north side, I followed her because I had never found a vet who understood my  desire to be conservative about vaccines after a bad experience many years ago. She tells me what's essential and I trust her. They've taken good care of a dog with emergency surgery who almost didn't make it, and were as happy as I when she did. They were sweet and supportive when I had to say good bye to that dog for the last time in their offices many years later. They gave excellent advice when my other dog got fat (less dog food / more canned veggies - who knew?), and were very helpful with both physical and emotional issues with my new dog, a heartbreaking rescue. Their standards are very high, as is their care. For me, a half hour (or more in traffic) to get there is far worth it. If you're in the neighborhood, all the better.
