9 reviews for Ani Pizza
One of the Business' Favorite Reviews What's This?
Awesome real New York pizza at an oh-so-affordable price that you can partake of late into the night. Your typical hole in the wall treasure.
The guys who run it are super nice and the menu is huge. They've got your basic pizzas and your not so basic. Along with normal Italian pasta-type fare. And the white wine chicken pizza is fantastic.
Called this place by accident on Monday night (for Monday night football of course) for a large pie of pepperoni and mushrooms. Greg (who turned out to be the owner) said it was 13 + 3.5 per topping but threw one in for free and asked that I call after I tried it. I got done w/ 3 bites before I had him on the line telling him I'm glad he's in my neighborhood!
It's def a classic NY slice. My only minor complaint was it's a little too bread heavy. I prefer a little less dough. I did like how there was lots of cheese. Maybe a little less dough + a little more sauce would've been real good.
Now I've been to the best of the best. Grimaldi's, DiFara's, L&B Spumoni, Eddie's, etc. Is it one of those? No. Absolutely not. But guess what? It's better than Dino's, Sac's and Rizzo's!!!
I still don't understand the fuss about Rizzo's. Go to L&B and tell me which square slice is better. There are off the top of my head, 10 better places, even in Long Island that have better sicilian slices (Mama Theresa, Vincent's, Umbertos, Bellagio, Eddies, Massa's, etc...)
Oh pizza with buffalo chicken!
You're so good that you're finger lickin!
Even though you're not cheap
You're so worth it to eat
And my pace to the bathroom you quicken!
Just the right mix of cheese and spice
Eating you is oh so nice
You cost a small fortune
So that's my only caution
To those eating at Ani's tonight
But definitely pick up your phone
One taste of this will cause you to moan
It's worth every dime
So don't waste your time
Because Ani's pizza is teh pwn!
This is a SOLID three stars. If I could give 3.5, I definitely would. For the area, it deserves four stars. It's one of the most solid delivery joints in Astoria. The owner really knows how to run a business. He's personable, friendly, and even requested we call back after our meal to let him know how we enjoyed it. I highly recommend this pizza joint. (And, to think, I only found this place because someone left an inexplicably bad review of this place. Thanks for finding Ani Pizza for me!)
The pizza is highly affordable. $12 gets you a large and for just $1 more you can get an extra large that's probably 20 inches in diameter. The toppings are $2.50 each, but they are real generous with them. Definitely worth it. A two topping extra-large pizza for $18? That's better than Papa Johns and just about any other pizza joint you find in Astoria.
The pizza is a pretty standard New York style pie. Thin crust, doughy inside. Thick, oozey cheese. The only problem is that the cheese sort of dominates the pizza and can get a little too solid after it cools down a bit.
UPDATE
Had a bunch of pizza left over because the Extra Large was so big and I realized something about Ani Pizza. It tastes GREAT cold. It's a solid slice when piping hot. Get's a little bleh when it cools to being just warm. But, once you get to cold pizza stage, it's back to business. Such a pleasant surprise.
Really good pizza. The pizzas are huge, the crust is puffy, and the overall pizza experience is really top notch. and of course, for the price- it's a great deal. For just slightly more than Domino's I can have a real pizza. so I will definitely be coming back.
when the broker I was working with showed me my current apartment, he said this pizza place was the best in Astoria. I of course, called his bluff, because who wouldn't try to upsell an apartment by raving about the pizza place down the street. but then I heard it again when I asked a community of Astorians, or people on the street- and they all said it was good. So I'm joining the mob and telling you its worth checking out.
I deducted a star because although delcious, it was a little greasy. as in greasier than you would really expect. but nothing that a Bounty can't fix.
This place has some excellent pizza. It's affordable and has a ton of different kinds of pie. The guy that runs the place is extremely nice and pretty much does it all.
There is also some other italian inspired dishes you can order and they have a variety of bottled and canned beverages.
It's a small place, but there's seating inside if you get the urge to sit in, but it's mostly a delivery place.
Best pizza I have had since moving to NY. Ani's always hits the spot with the pizzas thin, crispy crust and fresh toppings. Their menu is pretty extensive including hot subs, cold cuts, and pastas but I always end up craving a slice instead of testing out other items.
The manager is also always friendly and personable. And the chicken, roasted pepper, onion slice is AMAZING! If you're around the area, you should definitely try out Ani's. You won't be disappointed!
edit: I got around to trying their hot subs (meatball and chicken parm) and I just have to share.... After coming out of the oven, the bread is simply ah-may-zing! Fresh and tasty with just the right amount of crunch. Try it out if you're not in the mood for pizza but happen to run across Ani's... I promise you won't be disappointed!
So far, the best slice of pizza I've found in Astoria. I look forward to trying their other food.
I've frequented a few pizza places since I moved to Astoria and I think this is my favorite overall. Their sicilian slice is the best I have had in the neighborhood. The regular slice is really good as well and the owners are very friendly.
