yum. I come here for my 7 courses of beef. I think it's a really great place to take friends and treat them to something new. It's great using beef for 7 different dishes. I've been eating this since I was young, but it's a great place to show others. Using beef for 7 different things. Yum!!!! There's also a place that has 7 courses of fish in orange county.

I like Anh Hong because it's closer than OC. I have a place that I used to go to for 7 courses of beef out there that I thought was amazing. Anh Hong is legit though!

I came here once with my coworkers to eat lunch and have their 7 course beef which they are famous for. I think it's a great place to eat with a bunch of carnivores =p you pretty much make your own spring rolls with the beef as the protein. The meat is always juicy and flavorful. Definitely worth a try if you are into Vietnamese food.

Nice review, Hao L.* Although it would have been nice if you actually wrote it about THIS location.

    Anyhoo~

I'm so happy I came here for dinner despite my constant vows of escaping from The Land of Pigging Out Everyday-dom. I haven't had a seven course beef dinner in years and Anh Hong's version was quite great. From the pate, meatballs, to the sausages-- deeeeelicious! And they give you plenty of veggies and rice wrappers to eat everything with. The last course of congee - oh gawd. I couldn't wait to lick the bowl. But of course I didn't because what kind of heathen would do that at a public restaurant?*

    Pshaw!  Pfffttt!  Not I!*  Never!*

I've had better egg rolls elsewhere though - ie. Vietnam Restaurant, but the seven course meal was worth driving to San Gabriel for. I'll have to try Vietnam Restaurant's seven course beef before I decide if I want to come back here again.

We ordered two of the seven course beef and it was more than enough for all four of us. Each order was $15.

Thank goodness Tony C. was there to show us n00bs how to roll a spring. Yeah, I thought Tony C. was Mexican too but the man sure knows his Asian cuisine. He knows it so well that he has me almost convinced that he might actually be Asian.

    Almost.

    *Notes the opposite.

7 highly effective ways to satisfy my manly urge for MEAT?

7 reasons why it didn't work out with my vegetarian ex? (Hmm..actually, it was more than 7)

No, it's 7 courses of beef at Anh Hong's!!

My favorite Viet family took me here twice before -- once for Thanksgiving (to hell with turkey) and just recently. I definitely had no reservations stuffing my petite stomach up with all the delicious beefy goodness that was in front of me.

My highlight of the night when was I found the number 8 and letter B in their Chao Bo. (Beef Rice Soup / Porridge) It was like I was 3 years old all over again looking at the numbers and letters in my soup. And no, I wasn't seeing them because I ingested some magic mushrooms prior to dinner. I'm pretty sure they used some kind of alphabet and numbers pasta in the soup.

I also loved the Gai Bo (beef salad), the beef sausages, and their Bo Cha Dum (steamed beef meatballs). The item I liked the least was the Bo La Lot (beef sausage wrapped in a boiled leaf). But liking 6 out of 7 beef dishes makes this place worth it for me.

I was a bit saddened that they don't bring out the boiling pot for the beef fondue out at the table anymore since the fire department didn't want the place to burn down. Good looking out on the fire dept's part since they must love 7 courses of beef too, but there's no cooking the tenderloin at the table anymore. The tenderloin was still delicious in my self-made spring roll even if they had brought the meat out from the kitchen.

This place is located in a small plaza, so parking wasn't too bad. Definitely a place to checkout, in the SGV especially if you haven't tried a Vietnamese 7 courses of beef before.

5 stars because I've only been to 2 "seven course beef" places in my entire life. This one, and another one off Valley Blvd. where a skank poured soup all over my little sister. This is not saying that other place had bad food, just bad memories.

Anh Hong is my moms' favorite 7 course beef place. What's the right way to say "7 course beef" place anyway? I only know how to say it in Cantonese. Oh well. Mom said the quality isn't as good as it used to be, but it tastes just great if you ask me. We got 2 orders of the stuff for 3 people. It was enough to feed us, and to bring some home to my older bro too. My mom was annoyed that they don't let you cook the beef yourself. We like to drink the vinegar that it's cooked in.

One order will feed 2 people, at $15 a pop. That's cheap considering the amount of food you're getting. The viet porridge at the end is the best part. We give most of it to my mom cuz she's a fiend. A fiend!!! One gripe mom has is that they charge for hot tea. Well, how else are they going to make money mom?! Geez.

I ordered a tsing-tao, and they give you a glass with ice for your beer. Watered down beer. Why do chinese/viet restaurants do that? There was an old guy at another table near us and he was super red off half a beer. Maybe that's why. Anh Hong is delicious.

If you're a big fan of beef or like to make your food by hands, you'll like this place. $16 bucks for 2 is not too bad I guess. It comes with rice paper & veggies on the side to wrap your beef up with. My favorite out of the 7 are the one with the leaf wrapped around it and the crispyyy shrimp chips! The rice soup is just another typical soup that your mom can make at home. Make sure to dip it with the gray sauce that they have, pretty tasttyyy!

    7 courses beef include:
    - mini appetizer (thin slices of carrots mixed with beef): you can eat this by itself or include this when you wrap up your meat.
    - thin pieces of meat which they cook for you already
    - rolled up meat without leaf
    - rolled up meat with leaf
    - one big circle piece of meat which I think they call cha?
    - sausages looking beef.
    - rice soup with beef

I've always driven by this place and the 7 courses of beef completely intrigued me.

3.5 stars for me.  I thought this was okay to good.  The seven courses is definitely not what I expected.  The dishes were like 3 slices of beef or 3 meat balls.  I thought there was more of a range between the dishes, but I had 3 sets of meat balls.  Everything you eat has to be hand rolled into a vietnamese spring roll.  The people there didn't give much instruction, they just placed all the food in front of us and we asked they gave like a shrug.  I don't think they spoke English.

They do charge $0.50 for tea, which I haven't seen done anywhere Asian.  The plus is that it was a lot of food and two people can eat one meal.

7 courses of beef= 7 courses of deliciousness.  There are times in friendships when you feel so lucky to be their friend, and so I am grateful and feel so lucky to have become the friend of the person who took me here.

This place is delicious.  Pretty much the routine is, wet rice paper, put on plate, fill with greens, vegeteables, noodles, and other tasty things, wrap, dip in fish paste/ fish oil/ spicy sauce, and enjoy!  Yum.

I can't read or speak vietnamese, so I can't give you specific details on what kind of meat I was actually eating, but its good.  Maybe read the other reviews to see what kind of meat is involved.  But anyhow, even if I don't know vietnamese, next time I come here I'm going to just go "Mooooo" and hold up 7 fingers and hopefully they know what I'm talking about.

All in all, a nice meal!

I love 7 course beef (read Pag-o-lac review).   So it natural i have to fight off the urges since PagOLac is 45 mins away.  Until i read some reviews on this Anh Hoang.  I passed this place on friday and dragged the bf on a random friday night.

My mouth was watering for the table grilled beef with nuts and onions and the lot leaf beef sausage.  Major disappointment.   They no longer grill beef at the table due to fire hazards.  The beef came out cooked and totally overseasoned.  The pineapple dipping sauce was waaaaay tooo sweet and salty.   By the time i rolled the second spring roll, the beef had completely cooled off on top of that the overseasoned beef dipped in the pineapple sugar dipping sauce...let a bad taste in my mouth.

If you get a 7 course beef fix and don't want to drive down to the OC... This will probably be your best option.  If don't mind the drive...Go to PagOLac.

Came here with my friend to initiate him to the real vietnamese style 7 main course of beef meal.

First the price is quite amazing for 2 $15 bucks.
Then you get 7 different plate of beef, and you'll get to roll the food in the rice paper like you were making your own spring rolls.

The overall of the brunch, 26 bucks for 2 people. Hahaha..
It was my friend first experience and he like sit, so he will want me to take him back next week for another round.

I definitely won't say no to the idea of eating good food.

On my quest to discover (ethnic) hidden gems in Los Angeles, friends and I made the trek to the Rosemead location on the hottest day of the year.

We were welcomed to an (almost) empty restaurant, cordial service and working air conditioning - three stars in my book.

Granted, we drove for the 7 course beef dinner, but the whole fish dish that our neighboring table was feasting on seemed like a nice alternative.  The menu looked absolutely interesting and the green leaf tea immediately seemed like the right choice.

When we all received our various interesting drinks, ranging from coconut water with real soft coconut in the glass, to Vietnamese coffee  made table side, to my personal choice, green leaf iced tea, we all "oh'd and ah'd."  The green leaf team (or name variation there-of), was strong, leafy and sweet.  It definitely kept me cool throughout the dinner.

Shortly after ordering, the dishes started arriving - PLUS two bowls of warm water for us to soak the rice paper for make-your-own spring rolls.  Interesting.

The dinner was quite interactive, sharing plates and systematically adding veggies, various unknown interesting leaves and experimenting with two sauces - one pungent, one reminiscent of fish sauce.

Besides the spring rolls, we also had the table favorite - steak mini egg rolls.  Now, don't quote me on the name, but they were, in essence,  rolls that used a very thin steak instead of a rice paper.

The closing dish with a beef soup that was quite flavorful.  Although, I felt that it had a bit too much rice, or was it wheat?

All in all, great experience, especially if going with friends.

Came here for dinner on a weekend and the place was not busy.  Got two orders of the 7 course beef to share for four people.  It was like $15.99 each order.
They don't let you cook, or grill anything at the table anymore.  Every beef was already prepared and brought to  the table.  The beef was okay and not impressive.  After awhile they all taste the same.  The two best course was the leaf wrapped beef, and the shrimp chips with beef/egg paste.  the last dish was the rice soup which was good also.

The service was typical of asian joints, which is little or none.  The portions are small.  Hot tea was not free, it's 75 cent per person.  Overall, the experience seem boring without the fun of grilling or cooking the beef yourself.

    A pungent, vinegary flavor sensation!

It's the Vietnamese version of a French "Fondue" style of eating.
The Japanese call this Shabu Shabu.
And the Chinese call this Hot Pot.

    The minus?
Due to fire hazard, they do not serve the vinegar broth with the open flame boil to dip the beef to cook.  Instead, they do it for you in the kitchen.

    So where's the fun?
The seven different courses of beef!
It's a hands on eating project.
    1. wet the rice paper
    2. load the rice paper w/ veggies
    3. add your choice of a beef course
    4.  roll it all together
    5. dip in the sauce
    6. enjoy!
    7. continue steps 1-6 til you're content

    Find your favorite.
Mine is the Hawaiian leaf wrapped beef course- yum!

We heard about this place from my husband's co-worker. Since it's so close to my parents' house, we thought we give 7 courses of beef a try when were in town.

Pleasantly surprised! After figuring out what to do with plasticy disks they give you, it was actually kind of fun putting your food together. My favorite was the leaf-wrapped sausage and the pate. We ordered 2 orders not knowing that 1 would be fine for 2. Not sure if they ripped us off and gave us one order and charged us for 2. I guess we'll find out next time we go.

Service was okay too. Will invite friends to join us next time. Decent eats.

I am Vietnamese and one of my fav dishes is Bo 7 Mon. I remember my aunt serving it on holidays!

Since moving here from Dallas, TX I have really struggled to find 1. a good Vietnamese Restaurant that offers more than Pho 2. a good Vietnamese restaurant in the Los Angeles area.

So imagine my surprise when I did a Yelp search and found Anh Hong in Rosemead!

I went with my husband (white boy) with anticipation but I was greatly disappointed since the manner in which they serve Bo 7 Mon is SOOOO very different than what I was used to back in Dallas.

In Dallas or even Houston, when ordering this meal they bring the the hot plate to your table if you choose to grill or you get a vinegar pot brought to your table if you choose fondue.

You get to cook the raw meat/seafood yourself, similar to some Korean BBQ places that let you cook your own meat.

Also if you choose not to go with the 7 courses of Beef and want just the Fondue or Grilled option the meat portions that I am used to in TX were more ample than what was provided here. I got exactly 5 shrimps & 6-7 pieces of meat (precooked for me)

In TX I would have gotten more meat than 2 people could handle unless they were really hungry.

I love the cook it yourself concept!!!

Are all places in SoCal that serve this dish the same? Is it because of Fire Codes that these restaurants do not want to invest in for the grills that they choose to serve it this way?

Over all I would go back again if I had a Jones for the dish...unless someone can recommend another place that isn't an hours drive from Pasadena.

The Ngouc Cham (anchovie/pineapple) dipping sauce was a bit thin but tasty.

The wait staff was poor or understaffed that day. I didn't get my Cho, (rice porridge) until I was almost through my meal and my husband needed water but no one was in calling distance for a while.

I don't expect "great" service from any Vietnamese restaurant, at the very best I can expect "good service". Great service is never going to happen but man oh man, if they could improve their service it would certainly help!

I've been here twice, but I was genuinely surprised at how good it was. I was expecting just another Vietnamese restaurant, but what I've had so far has been tasty. I can't compare it to home cooking, but their food is good in comparison with other restaurants.

The last time I was there, we ordered a Large Beef Rice Soup to go. I normally don't like ricey soups with ground meats, but this one was the best I've had so far.

I had the seven courses of beef the time before last, and it was very good.

The price is good. I would go back. Try it!! [=

after driving by last week and seeing the '7 COURSES OF BEEF' sign i knew i had to schedule a future visit and see for myself. as a firm believer in core competencies, i figured if someone's gonna advertise a specific dish they're gonna come correct.

previous yelpers have mentioned that you're not able to cook your own meat for one of the courses but i can't say that i felt like i was missing out in the experience. there was so much edible goodness in front of me that i think that grilling some of the stuff could conceivably detract from the feasting.

and while there is no disputing that you're served up a full seven courses of beef, one shouldn't forget that there are tons of fresh veggies that accompany the meal. the portions are significant considering that i've had 7 courses where an individual course is literally one piece of grilled/prepared beef. bring your appetite and elastic waistbands.

the decor can be summed up as pho shop chic, emphasizing function over form with some fake flowers thrown in. but the decor isn't why people frequent anh hong, it is all about the feast.

so ive been here a few times and i have to say the food portions are generous! we ordered one "7 course beef" combo? meal thing. sharing one order was enough. at least i think its alot of food for one person.

i have no idea what each item is called...not even sure what meat they are but its tasty! its like burrito vietnamese style. instead of tortillas its rice paper you dip in hot water. then lettuce, and whatever else you want to wrap in. its a light, healthy meal.

place is overall clean...its a pretty big store. i see alot of big families come in sometimes.

service is okay. not the best but they get your requests done without an attitude. good enough for me.

3.5-4 stars.  Aside from the nasty smeared booger with hair on my menu and the black mysterious item in my water which I quickly had replaced, this place was good.  I have to admit, I felt a little unsafe dining here and it felt like 100 degrees inside there because of inadequate ventilation, but the seven course beef meal was really enjoyable..  My friend and I  were beginners in wrapping whereas another friend was expert at it and she laughed at our technique and how messy we were.  But it was a unique and fun dining experience for me.  I've done it once in the past, but it has been so long since I wrapped my own rolls. We ordered 2 orders of the seven course beef for the 2 of us which was more than enough food.  I enjoyed all the beef choices and found the porridge given at the end one of the highlights.  I really liked the flavor of it.  Good food, but might be weary of cleanliness.

7 course of beef! one of my favorite places to eat!
i discovered this place about a year ago. my bf and i come here a lot bc it's cheap and delicious and healthy for all the food you get for the the price you pay- less than $8 a person. i usually dont eat that much, but every time i come here, i would stuff myself bc i don't like wasting good food.

they're really good with the veggies. we always ALWAYS ask for more veggies, and they never charge us extra.

the dark fish paste tastes a little funny to me, but i mix in a little bit of that with the fish sauce and the combination is awesome!

the first course is the salad, which i loooooove. simply refreshing and satisfying. the 5 main beef courses are each very delicious in their own way. the meatball, the leaf wrap, the meat loaf YUMM!! although it's very good, the last dish always make me laugh. it's a porridge soup thing with rice AND alphabets!! that's as far as it gets with their special american twist in this vietnamese restaurant. hahaha!

we usually order a side dish of the steamed rice noodle thingy, called "banh-hoi", and roll it with the beef and veggies in the rice paper.

for those that are not too familiar with the rolling, this place gives you rice papers that are cut in 4's from a circular sheet, where each quadrant is just too small to make a good size roll. what i do is placing 2 of the "quadrants" over-lapping across the arc sides to form a square sheet on the plate. orient the plate so that the overlapped area runs up and down the plate. place your beef and veggies horizontally across the sheet from corner to corner and then roll! my description here may be terrible, but you'll figure it out. :)

the service is of course not like an american restaurant where they come and check on you often, but of all the times i've been there, i never had a problem flagging down the waiters or asking for the check. they're very efficient with their service.

there's many restaurants here on valley blvd, but this is one you have to try.

Their specialty is the 7 course Beef. The course is charged by per person with all the fixings such as rice sheet, lettuce, bean sprouts, fresh mint, vinegared carrots and turnips, and diping sauce. Beef is prepared 7 different ways, fondue, basil wrapped, porridge, etc... The meats are nicely charred and flavored. For those of you who are unfamiliar with this course: place a rice sheet on your plate and start filing it with all the fixings and your choice of the 7 meat, wrap it up and dip it in the sauce. Note that this is hands on. Quite fun for a big group and everybody is enjoying the food.

i been wanting to try this place since i heard about  it. the drive was a little out of the way for us. but the food was delicious. 7 different style of dishes of beefs. i thinks it's a beef. i love the ideas of those meats wrape in rice paper with all different kinds of mints greens and veges dip in either fish sauce, shrimp paste, or tamarins sauce. i like the fish sauce.
love the food, but the service was horrible. it took us 4 time to remind him to get our thai ice tea. i dont know if he did not understand or just plain forgot.

Ahh...7 heaven...oh I mean 7 course beef...nothing beats an Asian guy in Beef Country, eating 7 course of beef. Ommyumyumyum. Warning, never order less than the amount of people you have for 7 course beef, (e.g. 4 people, order 4 orders) because the viet guy taking order will have a frown and short change you.  One time I went with two asian girly girls and another friend so we order three since there's no way we can finish four orders and we were left still hungry.  Another time I had same group the guy recommended 4 orders, took his word for it and left with a take out box full of food enough for another person.

    THE Food
    - come with sides of lettuce and rice wrapper and two kind of sauces
First course beef and carrot salad with tangy sauce which is eaten alone.  Very nice to wake up your palate for the next six course.
Second course are slices of beef in vinegar beef broth, due to safety reasons they don't have the fondue feature.  Very normal, I think they're trying to let you taste the beef by itself.
Third course, rolled up beef without leaf.  There is some herbs and seasoning in the middle, very savory and good. Usually people wrap it with rice paper and lettuce and dip it in sauce.
Fourth course, rolled up beef with leaf.  It is kinda cheap shot calling this the 4th course because the only difference from course 3 and 4 is the leaf...and a slight taste difference...
Fifth and Sixth course, usually served together a big circle of beef cake, like a Vietnamese meat loaf and beef sausage ball thingier...by this time the creatine in the beef from previous course is in your system pumping you up and continuously eating beef like animals..
Seventh course, beef soup, which they call porridge. A lot of MSG in this finishing course, I tend is try a little of it.

    - Out of Five-
Revisit value- 3 (only for beef cravings)
    Taste- 4
    Satisfaction-5

Always a winner a full on 7-course Vietnamese beef meal.

7 courses of beef is pretty darn good here. my favorite is the beef rice soup. don't care much for the decor. it's a little dirty on the inside, but i think that's why the food is good. the service was decent from what i remember. just try the beef rice soup!!!
