Orange County, CA
I recently went to Anguna after I couldn't do anything with my hair anymore (I had the typical straight black Asian hair that was getting too long). Unfortunately, I'm also a cheap skate when it comes to haircuts. I was used to paying $15 dollars at Fantastic Sams since I didn't overly style my hair and usually didn't require more than a trim. But now I was ready to lop it off.
I called them right after lunch time and asked if I could come in right away. They said that was fine. When I arrived there were a few guys waiting but I didn't have to wait since I had called in. I showed the stylist, Erica, what I was going for. We determined that I'd be cutting about 7". We both discussed donating hair and opted to cut off 8" so I could make the requirements to donate to Pantene Beautiful Lengths.
Erica did a wonderful job with my hair. It was exactly how I thought it'd turn out. For a dry cut (she didn't wash my hair since it was just washed) it was only $20. Best deal I could find around work without stepping into a for-the-entire-family chain salon where it's a hit-or-miss.
Go to Anguna! -

My boyfriend and I both needed haircuts and didn't want to spend much. I called around to a couple of places and Anguna was by far the cheapest salon I found, plus they could fit both of us in that day. We got there and had to wait a bit, but it wasn't bad at all. They don't wash your hair, which was new to me. Both stylists did great jobs and the haircuts were only $20. I will definitely be going back.
There is an additional charge to use cards, so bring cash if you want to avoid that. -

Great deal here! I had been looking for a regular place where I can get my hair did ;) a friend had recommended this place per Yelp as well. Sure enough, been coming for about 6 months now. Margarita cuts my hair each time. I went to her first so she became my regular :) My mom goes to her now too. My hair is layered with bangs sort of "the Rachel" look but long. Margarita does a great job always. I usually just get a cut and never does she let us walk out with our hair wet! Finally found a place I like :)
You pay $20 for a haircut. Not sure how much they charge for shampoo, cut and style though. They have parking in the back alley but your better off parking on the street. Keep in mind Margarita only takes cash. -

I am an Asian female with long, wavy, and average weight hair who hasn't had a haircut since I moved from Philadelphia 2.5 years ago. Yeah, 2.5! I was tired of the bird's nest that appeared in my hair every night and finally gave in to finding a new stylist. I looked up some salons on Yelp with my requirements of them being close by, have generally good reviews, and weren't fairly overpriced. Anguna was first on my list and I was impressed by the reviews and the ratings so I gave them a call at 1pm on Saturday.
Antonio answered the phone and I asked if they had any openings today. He asked if I had a preferred stylist and even though most of the reviews were about Antonio, I decided to let him choose for me. He told me Reyna (not sure if I'm spelling her name correctly) had an opening at 2pm.
I arrived maybe five minutes late and she was working on another client and I was told she'd be with me in a few minutes. That's fine with me - I was late and I wasn't in a rush. The salon is a cute little place with spanish music playing and people joking around with each other. You can tell they have a great relationship with their clients. I went in for a shampoo and cut and the entire time Reyna would describe to me what she was doing. She asked me how I wanted it cut and made some suggestions. She didn't clip my hair up with a million clips (thank god) and snipped away. I got a long layered cut and she put some product in my hair to do away with the frizziness. I loveeee it!
My hair looks great, feels great, and best of all it's healthy. She didn't try to upsell me on any products or try to sell me another appointment. She recommended to make a visit back in 2-3 months to refresh my layers and that's about it. The cut and shampoo came to a grand total of $25! I don't carry cash so I paid with credit ($2 added for credit transactions) and I left a $10 tip because I was so happy. I'm really picky with who touches my hair but I think I've found my new stylist! -

After living in LA for 5+ years now, you can imagine all of the different hair salons I've been too. I;ve always just wanted a simple cut - long layers with sweeping bangs. Its a hairstyle that has worked for me for years. I've visited other places and always found something worng - they cut too much, too litte, my bangs look weird, its too pricey, etc. At Anguna, Im finally happy to report that my hair salon search is over!
Let me remind you that my 4 stars is based on getting a simple cut (as noted above). I should also inform you that I was looking for something cheap. (Hey, why shouldn't my cut be cheap?! Its simple!) I was floored when I found out my cut was only $20 (without tip). My hair feels healthier and I absolutely LOVE the way Antonio cut my bangs. I've had my fair share of cuts (about 3 / year) and Antonio is the very first stylist to cut my bangs just the way I want them done.
If you are looking for an upscale salon, Anguna isn't for you. The ambience is still cute, and honestly, as long as the place is clean and in a good neighborhood, I could care less about the "upscale" look. I'm going in for a haircut, not a spa experience.
4 stars for Anguna for price and skill. I'm definitely returning! -

I'm a person of habit and I've been to the same hairdresser for as long as I can remember. Unfortunately, that hairdresser is 9,000 miles away and I really needed to get my hair cut.
I'm pretty sure $20 is one of the cheapest, no frills haircut you can get. You're not going to get a fancy shampoo or elaborate styling, but if you're looking for something straightforward, this isn't bad. Antonio was friendly and meticulous with his work. My hair looked brilliant when I left the salon and even the next day. However, as my hair grew out a little bit, I noticed that it didn't fall as nicely as it did before.
I miss my hairdresser back home and since I get my hair cut about once a year, this will do for now. -

Amazing!! I was just there yesterday for a hair cut and antonio was wonderful. I showed him 2 pictures of how I wanted my hair and he nailed it..
I can care less if he talks to me or not... does talk just not while he's cutting away at your hair. -

I was very happy with my haircut and Alex was super sweet! The only reason I'm not giving it 5 stars is because I was not greeted when I walked in and had to wait about 5 minutes for someone to make eye contact with me to tell them I had an appointment. Also, a wash and cut is $25 but they still charged me full price even though they did not wash my hair. I'll still likely come back since in the end, my haircut was great.

Antonio is amaaazing.
I went there twice and both of the time he knows exactly what I want.
The price is good. ($20 for women without shampoo)
He is fast and detailed.
He might be a bit quiet, but then it means he is paying more attention for your hair:))))
I am going back again, but I think because of the good reviews this place is getting busyyy.. I hope they keep the quality and price! -

I called Anguna hoping to get an appt w/ this fabulous Antonio I keep reading about. Unfortunately he was out for a few days and my hair was in dyer need of a color & cut. Angie took my call and scheduled me to meet with her Friday at 5pm. They work around your schedule which is great.
Haircut - Angie did a FABULOUS job on my hair. I have long hair that goes down to my lower back. She kept the length and made my hair so much lighter and healthier! My swept bangs look great. I didnt have the dreadful weird looking "I just got my bangs chopped" look. ($20)
Color - I came in with brassy dry hair from my year old highlights. I wanted all dark hair and the same color. Angie did just that and she dyed my hair a beautiful warm dark brown. ($80-2 tubes for long hair)
Wash & blow dry - I love getting my long hair washed, you long haired girls know what I mean, its hell having to wash our hair sometimes. Angie did great on the blow dry, I just wanted a simple style I wasnt going anywhere special, but Im sure if you asked for the big poofy Carlton's blow dry & style, she can probably do that. ($0, it comes w/ a color & cut)
Parking - Robertson is a crowded street but meter parking isn't hard to find around there. If you're weary about street parking there is a parking structure about 50 feet down the alley, but yes you have to walk through an icky alley. Next time I plan to schedule my appt around 6pm when they don't charge for street parking and you can see your car right in front of the store. Sorry, Im a broke grad student =)
Waiting time - There were 3 stylists and some of us waited for about 20-30 minutes. Have patience it will pay off when she gives you your total amount due. -

What can I say, I have difficult hair. My cut was quite a while ago so I can't give too much detail but I haven't been back since. The point of this review is for anyone with baby fine hair, who like me, searches yelp reviews for someone who knows how to cut our hair and give us volume without making us look like a) mushroom heads b) bald c) like we just gave ourselves a haircut. I always pay to have my hair styled after my cut so I can see how it looks - wth is the point of getting your hair cut and then sent home with a wet mop? go to supercuts ladies. Sorry, got off track there! Anyway, my stylist proceeded to curl my hair, which I NEVER do. Sure it looked cute but I NEVER CURL MY HAIR so what's the point? Also, with curls I couldn't tell if her cut was any good or if it had given me the volume I wanted. The short answer is no.... My stylist was really nice but I can't justify 4 stars for that. Oh yea, she was also 30 minutes late and no one called to inform me. But I didn't take off points for that one, just the mediocre cut. I guess this is the place to go if you want a $20 cut and are too ashamed to tell people you went to Supercuts.

Antonio was great. I wasn't sure I was communicating my wishes too clearly, but he totally understood what I wanted and did a great job. He's fast but precise, and was happy to make recommendations. Plus, the salon is adorable and in a super-convenient location.
Another Yelper mentioned that Antonio is a bit quiet, which may be true, but to be honest, I'm going for a cut, not a chat session.
I've had inexpensive-but-good cuts before, but they didn't impress me quite enough to keep me going back - until Anguna! Today's cut was inexpensive-but-GREAT. -

This place was amazing. I moved to LA from Boston less than a year ago and am on such a tight budget that I was really worried I'd be relegated to Super Cuts. Finding this place on Yelp has saved me.
I've only been here once but plan on going back this weekend, and I can't wait.
PROS:
1) Street parking easy to find (not sure if there's a lot or not)
2) Only waited maybe five or ten minutes later than my scheduled appointment... not bad!
3) Hairstylist (not sure who it was) was quick but did a great job. I got a pretty basic haircut but still, he was fast yet thorough. I was worried going somewhere cheap would mean a lower quality haircut, but this was great!
4) Cheap! Only $20 without shampoo. Awesome!
CONS:
1) I do miss my hairstylist back in Boston because we had such repoire and I loved that, but that's nothing against this salon. My hairstylist was focused and quiet, but I'd rather that than an annoying, chatty Cathy.
Otherwise, this was a great salon, experience, and haircut! -

Antonio is the BEST!
I have very, very thick hair. I rarely wear it down, but once Antonio was done cutting my hair, I can wear it down everyday!
1. Hours of Business: Antonio doesn't run a 9-5 deal. Be sure to call to check out the hours and/or book an appointment before heading over. He has a lot of loyal customers so he may be booked the whole day.
2. Parking: Easy as pie. Right on the street in front of the salon at $0.50 an hour.
3. Ambiance: Clean, refreshing, and cozy. He has done amazing things with the space he has.
4. The Cut: With long, thick hair, most stylists drench your hair and then use multiple clips to hold your hair up in a weird bird's nest. Not Antonio! He cut my hair simply by moving my hair over to whichever side. He also took the time to put some product in my hair, blow dry with a rounded brush, and finger comb every layer so as to create volume.
5. The Price: Only $17 for everything, but PLEASE tip WELL!

ANTONIO HAS MOVED!
He is now at 1175 S. Robertson Blvd. Just north of his former location. Original review statements still stand! :) -

I had my hair washed, cut and styled ($50) by Alex and I have never been happier. Dry cut is $25. The whole process took 35 minutes.
I was really impressed by his professionalism - he asked great questions, took into account my concerns, and gave me the best hair cut I've ever had. Plus, he's a really nice guy and easy to talk to. I'll definitely be going back. -

I have my gf as my hair stylist but since i moved further away from her, it's been a challeng finding a good salon. Good, as in at least average. Based on the yelp reviews, i gained confidence in trusting Antonio with my hair. I have a short hair, leaning toward a shorter cut, even a better do. I showed him a picture of what i wanted, which i guess looked like a bob, so hell with it, i went for it. The cut came out choppy, the layers were so literal, that it didnt look like i had it done by a pro. My stylist saw it and was in awe and ashamed and reminded people that she had nothing to do with my hair. Maybe he's just not good with short hair. Another downer is i was falling asleep, he doesnt talk much and was not delicate when it came to brushing and blow drying. Hate that.

My very picky husband & his cousin started going to Reyna's a few years ago when she worked elsewhere. When Anguna opened, he told me about Reyna and i could see the great job when i saw the well groomed hair of these 2 guys(who have crazy hair w/ caliques all over their heads)
Then i decided to try Reyna out and i cannot get myself to go anywhere else. Reyna is professional, does a great job and the prices are very cheap for Los Angeles! Reyna was able to give me an 80s hairstyle for very cheap when i had a party once. I've never tried Antonio but heard he's good also! -

I've gotten my haircut by Antonio three times already and plan on being a regular customer as long as I live in LA. He does an amazing job and listens to what I want. When I say I want my hair to be cut at least 2 inches...he does just that. Unlike some hairstylists, they'll cut off double! I'm very impressed with his skills and especially the price I pay for an incredible haircut. (Only $20!) I'm going in tomorrow for highlights with another lady, so we'll see how that goes :)

Exquisite place! Had my cut today and I'm completely satisfied. Alex was so friendly! Very easy to talk to....definitely understood what I wanted.I really appreciate how he asks you questions to make sure he understands your needs. Just can't beat the price. The salon is very cute, they've done a great job. I'll definitely be going back to him from now on.
Note to Alex: Don't forget the girl that just came back from New Zealand :P And hope you have a great birthday next week! -

1. $16 plus tip for a haircut is not bad - but do remember that you will not get your hair washed
2. I have to say that this was the most silent haircut that I have ever had - eerie silence
3. I told Antonio generally what I wanted and he did not ask any follow up questions - as result I have layers that are much shorter than I would like
4. He was very nice about making alterations once I took a full look at his first pass at it
Overall - a great choice for affordable upkeep when you just need to get something simple done. I would not get a complex cut by Antonio because of the lack of communication between him and myself. -

I was sooo excited to find a salon adjacent to Beverly Hills without the crazy prices. Yes, at first I was skeptic, but thought why not give it a try. Alexander did my hair and the color and cut was just as good, if not better than, the many other salons I have tried in the area. I Ieft the salon with the exact color requested and softer than ever! The atmosphere is relaxed and quaint. Parking is rarely a problem with the metered parking in front or in the parking lot behind the salon.
Overall, I'm happy I no longer have to break the bank just to have a decent do! Although it's affordable, don't forget to tip well, they deserve it. -

Antonio was booked all day so he recommended that another hairdresser by the name of Alex cut my hair. I was a bit hesistant but ended up loving my hair. I have thick black asian hair and alex skillfully snipped through until he gave me perfect bangs and layers that framed my face. For me, the ultimate test of an awesome hair cut is how your hair falls after washing your hair the day after and you know what? I love it! For 20 minutes and $20 bucks, i'm impressed. Even at the beginning, alex took some time to ask me what i loved and hated about my previous hair cuts. I'll definitely return to this place but maybe on a weekday.

I was referred to Reina few months ago, but I was hesitant to try her because the price was so low that i did not want to believe that she could do as good hair cut as the ones I have been getting for $100.00.
I went today (after all hair grows back, right?) and what a nice surprise it was to find out that she was able to cut my hair like a Beverly Hills pro and made me look younger :).
My hair is thick and I dye it every month, I am in my forties so I needed a chic hair style that would suit my life style. I am a clothe designer and need to look sharp and fashionable. I love Reina she is the best! and I will start coming to her from now on.
This taught me that a high price service is not necessary the best just because its high.
Hey just because is cheap, don't go cheap on the tip hahaha -

I've been going to Antonio for haircuts since 2008. For this price ($18), this is the best hair salon deal in town. Antonio is a super competent stylist, doesn't mess around with too much chitchat, just gets to work and does it well. He's a really sweet guy too once you get to know him and get him chatting ;)

Someone please tell me what "Anguna" means. Anguna Hair Salon sounds like a beauty salon for reptiles.
When Antonio, the owner, answers the phone, you'll probably hear some unintelligible gibberish followed by, "Antonio". Don't hang up, you've got the right place.
Thank you Yelpers for recommending Antonio.
I had to find a new hair cutter, because my last one quit and I lost track of him. The last one was really good, but I must say, Antonio is better. I've always gone to an Asian hair cutter, because I figured they knew how to cut Asian hair. But I give my props to Antonio, the Asian hair cutting Latino. He cut my hair 5 times for the past six months and I've been satisfied with all of them.
He charges $17 for the guy's cut (extra charge for shampoo). Would be nice if he did it for free.
He moved to this new location in August 2009, a block north from his old place. The place is next to Radio Shack on Robertson:
1175 S Robertson Blvd. Los Angeles, CA 90035.
Update on 4/21/2010:
I asked Antonio the meaning of ANGUNA and he said that's the Mexico's version of the SSN - first two letters of the first name, middle name, and last name:
Antonio: AN
Gutierrez: GU
Navarrette: NA
= ANGUNA
He wanted to call his shop "Antonio's", but some punk had already taken the name. -

I got a haircut today by Alex. I came in with long hair, down to the mid-back, and I wanted something new for the summer. I asked for shorter hair, a little past the shoulders, and some layering. Alex recommended layers to frame my face, and soft layers in the back.
What surprised me was how Alex approached my hair. He asked "What did you like about your last cut? What did you not like?" and he made suggestions from there. It was nice that he was interested in the cons of my last haircut, so he could make sure I get what I want when he cuts my hair.
What surprised me was that my cut ended up being $55. I'm assuming it's because of the layers I wanted, and all the pampering he gave me with the hair wash, blow dry, and the products he put in my hair afterward. But he did an amazing job, and I think the price was worth it, considering I've paid a lot more for a lot less.
I would definitely come back to get my hair cut here, although I'm gonna be more conscientious of the price tag in the future. -

Normally, i am an extremely frugal person. So, in the past, when I have been frugal, i have gotten nothing more than mediocre haircuts, which really didn't matter since, I usually just wear ponytails and keep it medium long. But my mane had gotten out of control, we're talking hair shirt. I really wanted a smart and sassy cut. I did lots of research and hemm'd and haw'd and checked groupon like a crazy lady. Finally I came to a breaking point, it just needed to get cut, mediocre was fine at this point, I am a busy working mom, i had an hour and a half to kill (which is crazy) so I yelped from my phone and found the closest place in my "price range". They had an opening and there was a parking spot right in front!! I got set up with REINA LUNA. She gets it, she is a magical witchy Latina hairdressing goddess. When i got the bill, I nearly fainted. How can my best cut be the cheapest cut? I tipped her 75%, I just had to. You should too, she's amazing.

A friend of mine with great hair went to Antonio and got a great haircut! I went in with freshly washed hair and a few pics of what I wanted. Twenty minutes later I walked out with a beautiful haircut. And the price was too good to be true - $20.00 dollars. At that price I will go every six weeks . Thanks Antonio!

This place is great! Antonio does one hell of a job. I am a client of his that followed him over here from supercuts. Every time I go in, I get exactly the haircut that I ask for. He works fast, but is very thorough and precise on what he does. There is also some great hair products that I buy from him there.
Also, parking is super easy and since I always call ahead to make my appointment, I hardly ever wait. This place is a must for anyone looking for a fast, consistent, reasonably priced, and amazing haircut.

Been going to Antonio for years. He's a pro and really takes pride in his job - never rushing, always making sure it's as good as he can get it. I highly recommend him for any type of hair. Reina, the other stylist there, is also really good. If I go in without an appointment and Antonio is booked I will have her do it.
Definitely give them a shot if you're looking for someone new. They're also very inexpensive for the quality of cut that you get.
