My family has been to Angry Minnow once before about two years ago and it was really good then. We just went there again recently and it was even better than before. The menu has changed substantially, but the interior is just the same. Huge vats of beer being brewed sit behind large windows in the center of the restaurant. There is even a circle of chairs surrounding a table for people to lounge when they eat and drink house brewed beer. Now on to the food. The appetizer, craw fish cakes, were delicious with a nice creole twist, and served with a mayo sauce, hot sauce, and a very acidic fresh salsa. We shared two soups: cream of carrot (pureed) and Reuben (a cabbage broth with mild sausage and  rye bread croutons. Both were very good with the latter being slightly weird.  Their beer bread with fresh butter was great. For entrees we got the special: perch fingers, which were deliciously crispy with a honey wheat beer batter, with a delicious homemade tartar sauce and braised beef ribs. The braised beef ribs were on the bone (cow bones are friggin' huge) with a delicious BBQ sauce and were ridiculously fall off the bone tender with a melt-in-your-mouth soft texture. It's no question, we will be going back a third time. Plus, the service was great and very friendly.

I had high expectations going into this place and it was just ok. We had the cheese curds and sweet potato fries to start which were good. I had the AM burger and it was really just OK. The burger was cooked well done, not medium like I had ordered, and it had been sitting a while because the yoke was not running and soft underneath. This was partially because our server outside was also cock-tailing in the bar.. so I believe it would have been better had it not rested so long.

Overall, great ambiance and ok food. I would go back and give it another shot.

During a getaway from Summer in the Desert we stayed lakeside in Wisconsin.

One of the local guides mentioned the Angry Minnow Brewing Co.   We went to visit and were impressed by the high quality of the beer and dining experience.

Their Octoberfest beer was fantastic as was their standard and IPA ale offerings.

The Angry Pretzels are not be missed.  The  burgers were fantastic.

If you are visiting Wisconsin and are near Hayward I would heartily suggest a visit.

I have eaten at the Angry Minnow twice and had a great experience both times.

I can't comment on the beer as I'm not of drinking age, but the food is something special. The fries are crisp, meaty and as good as any I've had. The burgers and sandwiches are really the Minnow's forte.

The AM Burger is my new favorite burger, overtaking the Nook's Juicy Molitor Burger. Nothing can beat a half pound of succulent ground beef, two strips of crisp bacon, cheddar cheese, lettuce, tomato, fried onions and a fried egg between two buns. If you can get your mouth around the burger--good luck--get ready for a yolk all over your fingers. This is a messy burger, but it is totally worth it.

I can't wait to return to Hayward for another AM Burger.

Love this place! The beer and food were great! The service was a little slow (i.e. tables were open but we weren't seated for over an hour), but that's really my only complaint. I will go to here every time I go to Hayward.

One of the nicer places to eat in the area--very good beer and appetizers (we enjoyed the Angry Pretzels with dipping sauces and a hoppy IPA with a citrus flavor).  My husband had a juicy burger and salad.  I had a bowl of beer cheese soup with a side salad and bread. Our kids enjoyed a bowl of chili and split a pizza. Beware to those who don't like a little heat--quite a few of their menu items are fairly spicy (beer cheese soup, the sausage on the pizza, and the chili--which you would expect).
The building itself is quite neat and features a cozy bar/sitting room with a fireplace. We'll definitely visit again on our trips through the area when we want more than just a quick meal.

I'm a local, and this is where I go if I want a little more "urban" dining experience. The beer keeps improving and the food has become more consistent. Wish they had more appetizers, as we often just stop in for a brew and tapas. The owner knows how to treat his clientele, although sometimes the waitressing (high school girls) is disappointing. The atmosphere is the best in the Hayward area.

The Angry Minnow is a brewpub that does it up right.  Our meal started with brimming pints of Scotch Ale, made on premises.  The beer was perfect: dark brown, rich and malty.  We then moved on to burgers, each a half-pound of meaty goodness.  The Bar Burger (bacon, avocado, cheese and ranch dressing) is justly praised; simpler tastes will enjoy the basic cheeseburger, topped with lettuce and onion.  Burgers come with fries, which is a good thing when the fries are as good as those served here.

The lovely Scotch Ale called us back for another dinner the following night.  Still burger-full, we opted for lighter fare, but not before trying the cheese curds.  And what cheese curds!  Perfect curdly perfection.  Then on to soups and salads, all of which were good but not as remarkable as the burgers and the fries and the cheese curds.  This last bit of information should not be a shock to anyone eating at a brewpub, of course.

Service was friendly in the face of a nearly full house.  Atmosphere is "brew pub modern," lots of exposed wood, a nice U-shaped bar, and flickering candles on the tables.  Prices are in line with food quality.

Lunch was great!  Had a Reuben soup which was both surprising and very tasty. That along with the B.L.A.T. Sandwich made the afternoon all the better.

The beers are also quite good though not for those that fear the hops.

This is a favorite!  We have been coming here for years.  Food and service  are very good.  As recommend by a previous review, we tried the pretzel appetizer.  Fantastic.  Little bit of wild rice in the dough.  Came fresh out of  the oven with 3 great dipping sauces.  The fish tacos are wonderful.  Had the jalapeno slaw burger today.   Best burger I have ever had.  Fresh meat makes a difference.  Very flavorful and juicy.  And the bacon on the burger is crazy good.   The only thing I would change about the angry minnow is to be open on sundays.  Thanks angry minnow!!

An updated menu offers up a hearty chicken stew with cheddar biscuits.  Enjoyed this with a delicious oatmeal stout.  The bartender also provided three generous samples of beer.

Angry Minnow is always a required stop in Hayward, WI.

I have given this establishment ample opportunity to impress me but, they always come up short. The wait staff is indifferent; the food is mediocre; the owner is arrogant and I wouldn't recommend this place to a starving man. In addition, the beer is not quite good. This place is trying to offer a hip experience as compared to the other typical restaurants in Hayward, but they fall flat on their face. Most of the patrons seem as pretentious as the owner. The food comes slow and cold. And don't even get me started about getting a table. This place remains as unorganized as the day it opened. I will not be returning.

A fun place to eat and have a nice brew while in Hayward, Wi. It's the oldest building in town, 1889, used to be the lumber office when logging was in full swing in the area. A very cool old brick building. They did a nice job on the remodeling. Now, the food: it's pretty good on the whole. Had a great chicken-pepper soup that wasn't available this year, hope they bring it back. Had the Last Notch wheat and then a Belgian Blonde Ale and both were good. Even their light beer had some flavor.

Great food and beer!!!  Homemade soup and interesting menu items.  Best hamburger I have ever eaten!  The french fries are just like my mom's homemdade fries.  Try the River Pig ale - out of this world!  A sure bet for a great meal.

Based on 2 meals, on the recommendation of a colleague who is crazy about the place, I have to say the main courses are great, and the soups are terrible.
I've had stuffed quail, and baked trout.  Even though the trout description on the menu sounded healthy (baked with lemon and tarragon, snap peas, wild rice with almonds, blueberries, and cranberries), it was covered in butter.  I prefer the quail, which was delicious, better than I imagined.

The soups were butternut squash and potato and leek.  I didn't like either at all.  The potato leek one was truly bad; I ended up getting a salad instead.

    Beautiful building, good service.

We enjoyed a weeknight dinner at the Angry Minnow. Not a whole lot of options open on a Tuesday night in Hayward, but we felt welcomed and comfortable in a filled-with-locals environment. We ate a duck filled with cheese and wrapped in bacon that was delicious and moist. Also, we had grilled skewers of shrimp and veggies; both entrees were served with a tasty wild rice blend. The brew pub serves home-made beer bread with butter that is quite good. Their stout beer was rich and smooth.
