Angie's Restaurant is absolutely nothing fancy to look at (though they have a large and interesting collection of antique radios lining the walls, which are worth checking out) but the food was some of the most flavorful, hearty, stick-to-your-ribs Italian grub I've had in ages.

The menu is a 50/50ish split between Italian and Mexican faves - nothing out of the ordinary at all. All Italian entrees come with freshly-baked bread, and a choice of salad or homemade Minestrone soup. I chose the Cheese Ravioli/Meatball combo with a side salad ($9.95), and he decided on the "LSR" (Lasagna, Spaghetti and Ravioli) plus a meatball, with a side salad ($12.95 plus 70c for the meatball). Though swimming in dressing, the salads were decent. The bread was a little flavorless but hot and fluffy, and the accompanying marinara was rich and chunky with delicious little nibbly onion pieces.

I have to say I LOVED my entree. The meatballs were rich, meaty, delicious but crazily light, and the raviolis were large and oh so cheesy. I wasn't a fan of the wide spaghetti noodles (a little chewy and bland) but the sauce was soooo thick and rich. Yes, it gave me RAGING heartburn, but I didn't care. Apart from the lasagna (which was all noodle and ricotta, and hardly any meat), he was equally happy with his meal.

Our server was friendly enough but gave obviously preferential treatment to his two other tables who were clearly regulars. Oh well.

AR was an unexpected surprise. It's not a fancy date place nor anywhere you'd go to impress someone, but it was affordable and uber tasty. And their patio has a really gorgeous view of the mountains. I nearly forgot that.

I'm shocked to read the four- and five-star reviews of this restaurant. I feel I'm being generous by giving it two stars.

I had the eggplant with spaghetti. The meal started with a salad, which was mostly the stems of iceberg lettuce. Disappointing to say the least! I will say the garlic bread was delicious.

I found the main meal to be bland, and not even a heavy sprinkling of dried red pepper seemed to help (which I had to ask for ... twice ... it wasn't a normal condiment on the table.)  I also asked for freshly ground pepper and cheese, but they didn't have that (!)

While I was full at the end of the meal, I felt the portions to be on the small size. I was disappointed with the service, as I had to ask twice (and I was halfway through my meal) before I received the dried red pepper.

I don't know why or how Angie's has been around for so long. It was a disappointing experience and I won't go back. There's GOT to be a better Italian restaurant in town, though I haven't found it in the 30 years I've been living in Denver.

Been to the Blue Parrot in Louisville? I'd say they share recipes. True statement about the sauce. Tad on the spicy side but well worth the heartburn. Nothing a few Tums won't cure. I recommend the spaghetti & meatballs or the calzone with your choice of fillings. Deserts are to sinful. The Italian food is so inviting, we have never ventured over to the Mexican portion of the menu. With all the nice stuff being said, I do feel the place could use a cosmetic makeover - but whatever keeps the prices reasonable works for me. I also recommend you steer clear of ordering any bottled beer unless you are not opposed to drinking yours @ room temperature. It's kept in the cooler with the cake & pies so it doesn't turn the Rocky Mountains on the Coors bottle the slightest shade of blue.

This is one of the few places I get take out from regularly.  A common complaint I hear is that the spaghetti sauce is a little too spicy, but there is a wealth of amazing dishes to be had here.  Both the Mexican and Italian dishes are exceedingly good, and it's great to have a real family run Italian place in the midst of all the big chain restaurants that plague the nearby area.  This Chicken Marsala is one of a kind, and the Rigatoni with Pesto has to be some of the best comfort food a simple pasta lover could ever indulge in.

I've gone to Angie's for almost 20 years.   They do a great job with providing food for group events.  They have been very generous with providing low cost options for charities and groups in the Columbine community.
