By far the best fine food in Murphy's! Reasonably priced.  A nice young couple runs the place lately.

Typically, they are not open Tuesdays.  I called to get a reservation for Valentine's Day this year, and they had so many people requesting reservations for Valentine's Day that they called everone back and opened up just for us!

Wow, what a disappointment!!! Came here with my family for my mom's birthday. The waiter brought out the salads then within 2 min brought the entrees! A meek apology but at premium prices I expect the waitstaff and the kitchen to at least have their firing times right. They also served our party the wrong entrees which then meant they needed to re-fire mine. It arrived just as the rest of the party finished their meals.

All that said, the steaks were mediocre. A place that calls itself a steakhouse should outshine the neighborhood Outback and Angelo's did not. A disappointment on every level from service to food.

Exceptional!! My husband and I have visited Angelos many times for dinner and have even had family parties there. We have NEVER been disappointed. Im surprised by the one star reviews...but sounds like they didn't realize for big parties it is good to call ahead and reserve a table, even in such a small town as Murphys!

We have grown to have several favorites at Angelos. For my husband he always talks about the Fried Ravioli Appetizer. For me I love the Caprese salad and the Chicken Piccata. Im always impressed by the nightly specials which usually include a great seafood option or home made pasta dish. The portions are very generous and prices very reasonable.

We also appreciate it is kid-friendly as we have brought our 4 year old daughter and they were kind enough to give crayons for her to color and child safe drinking cups. Whenever we are planning a trip to Murphys a visit to Angelos Steakhouse is on top of our list!

After reading the mostly glowing Yelps, I was eager to eat here. Now that I have eaten here I have to wonder if I was at the right place.  This is NO 5-star steakhouse...not even close.

The Caprese salad was made with good tomatoes but they used the little balls of mozzarella that you can buy at any Safeway.  Okay salad but nothing special.  The calamari was horrendous.  No flavor in the breading. They had been sitting because they were not served hot.  The breading fell off in big chunks when you tried to dip it.  No lemon to squeeze over the top which would have added some much needed flavor.  Bland and boring.

We both ordered the petite Kobe fillet.  It had a dry rub that overpowered the meat.  The meat was not well marbled.  The texture was strange.  It was cooked okay.  We both had rare.  It was red but not juicy.  The veg were strange. Yellow squash and carrots ribbon cut.  Looked better than they tasted.  Bland.  I saved the best for last.  Their garlic mash was the consistency of spackle.  Too much garlic, almost a raw garlic taste and dry and thick and gummy. Blech!

The service was quick but not very friendly. The servers stood behind the bar having a constant chinwag.  Distracting and annoying. Chat back in the kitchen if you must. Customers don't need to hear the constant chatter of the wait staff.

The 1-star rating is for the wine.  Good local choices.

This place is fairly new.  They opened in April.  They better pull it together.  We blew $85 dollars on dinner for 2.  I can't imagine them surviving this economy with their prices and the poor quality of their food.  I came here because of all the great Yelps.  Oh Yelpers...you have let me down.

The centerpiece of this restaurant is the Legit homemade pasta!

After walking main street and wine tasting all day, Angelo's is a nice little walk on Main with great food.  The waitress offered me a sample of the marinara when I had questions about it, which is a great touch for service.  I ended up going with a creamy tomato sausage pasta and was grateful for the sample.  What I ended up with was rad.

One bummer: no bread when you sit.  Boo to that.

I found myself here from the Yelp reviews and I gotta say: always trust Yelpers!  They know wassup.

This place is not even worth 1 star! The service was horrible! I've never felt so discriminated like this before! My friends and I came in and no one greeted us. All the waitresses were just standing around shooting the breeze. Not like they did not see us, we were a group of 6. After a while they told us the wait was 45 mins when more than half the restaurant was empty. Come on even the bar area was empty. If you want to relive Martin Luther King Jr and Rosa Park time, come here.

One star is being kind, this place deserve a NO star at all. If there is an award for being the most racist restaurant in town then this place will be it.  How can you tell a group of 6 that there are no available tables when half of the restaurant were empty? There was no "reserved" sign place on the empty tables. We might not dressed for the occasion since we just got back from our cave exploring. The people that were dining during that time had on casual attire too. Service was horrible & very discriminating. We were taught about racism but never experienced until we arrived at Angelo's. If you don't want to be looked down upon or feel like you're from another planet, then don't come to this hell hole.

This is our favorite restaurant in downtown Murphys.  Our server was friendly and attentive.  The Oso Bucco and homemade pastas, particularly the rigatoni, were delicious.  You can tell that they used fresh, high quality ingredients.  We didn't try the salad, which it sounds like some other reviewers didn't care for, and we would have appreciated some bread with our dinner.

This is a fabulous restaurant for foodies!  Every single course was a delight to the pallette.  Everything is fresh, nothing is overcooked; the pasta is homemade.  Waking up this morning, my first memory is the deliciousness of the food, the relaxed, casual atmosphere of the restaurant, the friendly and attentive service, and good selection of wines.  And, the price is just right!  The pictures below would be helpful if you've never gone to this restaurant.  Seeing, however, is believing.  In this case, "eating" is what really makes you want to come back!

What a find in  this small town of Murphy's.  Definitely competes with some of the best steak and italian restaurants in San Francisco and the Bay Area!

We ate here tonight because it was recommended by our timeshare. The service was okay. The food was very bland. No taste to it at all. We ordered pasta primavera, chicken alfredo and a small filet that was cooked the way I requested, but not a good cut for the price. It was tough and chewy.

My fiancé and I ate at Angelo's on a Sunday evening after one of rhe shop owners recommended he place to us. The food was great! My fiancé had a lemon ricotta ravioli and I had a petite kobe steak. Both were delicious and the steak was cooked perfectly. Our server was attentive but not the most friendly, but overall we had a great dinner. We were the last ones there and Angelo gave us a free desert to take back to our hotel with us. It was a very nice surprise.

This is a must. We are locals & have eaten at every restaurant around here multiple times.

Went to Angelo's for a birthday dinner for our friend. Two of us had a half plate pear salad ~ wow! plenty of it, fresh and tasty! Ordered a plate of caprese salad for the table ~ again, fresh, tasty & plenty! Dinner was spaghetti & meatballs (which I haven't ordered for years due to restaurant sauce being mediocre at best) and rigatoni with sausage. WOW!!! Two 1/4 pound meatballs with homemade pasta and a fantastic sauce! Amazing flavor and oh so much ~ score! leftovers for lunch. Rigatoni with the most wonderful sausage ~ fabulous cheese sauce and again sooo much!  Fantastic local wines that don't double the price of dinner! Ok, let's move on to desert ~ I'm not a chocolate lover but even I thought the 2 chocolate cake choices sounded awesome. Then there was the creme' brulee cheese cake ~ to die for. Also ordered spumoni ~the ice~cream lovers at the table loved it. Rich and creamy and once again, servings to satisfy.

Great personalities ~ the two young ladies serving were friendly, knowledgable and fast with smiles on their faces. Ate outside on a beautiful summer night, what more could you ask for? Food, wine, service & atmosphere in a wonderful town! Life is good!

Our new favorite place to enjoy appetizers, dinner, the best local wines with friends, family and anyone new to the area!

We had a terrific meal with excellent food and service.

We had calamari and a Caesar salad to start. Both were above average. The Caesar salad was ridiculously good. Huge spears of fresh  romaine with the best dressing and crunchy croutons. Woot!

The vegetables were perfect. We had asparagus and squash that were simply delicious. They were cooked perfectly and were slightly seasoned. The mashed potatoes were some of the best I've ever had.

Ironically, the steak was good but not exceptional. One part was overcooked but the rest was just right.

My kids had the homemade ravioli and loved it.

    The staff was excellent.

When we come back to Murphys, we'll definitely come back to Angelo's,

We have a vacation house in Arnold and have been frequenting Murphy's for a few years now, but just tried Angelo's for the first time tonight. Yelp does not disappoint!  We have two small kids (7 and almost 4) and they were very welcome as well. The wine selection was local, very good and not crazy expensive. The lobster bisque was amazing. We also had the caprese salad, salmon and the veal. All were really good, too. We will for sure be back!

The food at Angelo's is nothing less than AWESOME!!!  The steaks were cooked to perfection and their seasonings and preparation EXCELLENT!  We had a bit of pasta with ours and the pasta & sauce was superb!  We will be going there on a regular basis!  There are sooooo many yummy things on the menu that need to be tried.  Service started out very good but as it got busier they were a bit distracted and it took a while to get refills and a bill, but they had only been open 2 weeks, so I'm sure they will iron those out....I really can't complain though because the wait staff was very personable and very helpful.  This is absolutely a new jewel of a restaurant and one of the absolute best on the hill!

Very good...not great, but very good.  The outside tin building doesn't give any example that there will be a nicely decorated dining room inside.  Very good selection of wines (as have most places in Murphys).  The fried ravioli appetizer is fantastic.  I had rigatoni...the pasta was homemade and al-dente, just as it should be.  Presentation was ok...I expected the sausage to be mixed throughout the tomato cream sauce but it was just served basically is a single piece.  Wasn't the most appetizing appearance, but it tasted good.  Wife had frutti di mari...good flavor and a large portion.  Only one down note...one mussel didn't open.  It shouldn't have been served.  That was about the only oversight by the chef.  Service was cheerful and efficient.  This is a good restaurant, but I agree with one other poster...bread should be served in an italian restaurant when you sit down.  It shouldn't have to be ordered.

What a surprise in Murphys! We were headed to another restaurant a bit late on a Sat night in July that ended up being closed so we went to our second choice, Angelo's, that we just happened to see on way to first choice. None of us had ever been to Angelo's so we had no idea but decided to give it try. Although it was around 9pm we were seated with a smile, served water immediately (hot day), and asked for our drink/wine orders. As someone mentioned below if you bring in a local wine into any restaurant in Murphys the corkage is free! But we decided to just do some wines by the glass to expand our wine drinking experience in Calaveras County. The entree prices are reasonable if you stick with pasta but I think a bit over-priced as you go down the menu, then again I'm not a big steak-eater. Comparing the prices with other places in Murphys, the prices at Angelo's are more reasonable. Going with any of the pastas is the way to go, it is hand-made and delicious. 3 of us had the special shrimp & crab stuffed canneloni ($12) and 1 of us had spaghetti & meatballs ($9), large helpings of all. The canneloni could have had less ricotta in it, seemed to overpower the crab but still a scrumptious entree. Decent grilled artichoke but did not care for the aioli and asked for some plain mayo. 1 in our party had steak salad and said it was pretty good but not enough steak. We all enjoyed the atmosphere, service and food and agreed we will be back!

Seriously five star dining. The food was literally Gourmet with a capital G. I ordered the chef's choice pasta which turned out to be a spinach pasta ravioli stuffed with spinach, ricotta cheese, shallots, and roasted pine nuts, which had been cooked in a white wine reduction. The sauce was butter garlic and it had 5 little sauteed shrimp on top. I could not believe what I was eating. This is something I expect to find in London, San Francisco, or L.A., not out in little ol' Murphys! The price was slightly more than I expected, but totally worth it. My fiance had the cheeseburger, which turned out to be ground steak with provelone. He said it was the best he has ever had. In fact, he couldn't stop talking about it all the way home! We had both decided to splurge on dessert, so I got the creme brule cheesecake and he got the chocolate cake. Amazing. It was amazing. I only had one bite of the cake and I couldn't have any more. It was sooooo chocolatey! I stuck with my cheesecake. The crunchy caramelized top with the caramel sauce underneath, a sliced strawberry and some whipped cream - Delicioso. The service was excellent, as well. Our drink order was mixed up, but quickly resolved, and no other issues =0)

Try this one out. You will be stunned.

Really did not expect to stumble upon such a great place out in the sticks! We went for a drive on Easter and at the end of the day decided we wanted dinner.  At the recommendation of a restaurant down the street that was closing for the evening-we headed down to the only place in town that was open-Angelo's (which we were told was new, which scared us even more!)  We were welcomed even though they were closing for the evening.  They exceeded our expectations at every turn, from service, to each course, to decor.  The grilled shrimp appetizer was delicious, the only thing we would have changed is we would have ordered 2!!  Both of the pastas we ordered (hand made!) were phenomenal.  I could not believe how good my meal was.  We got the tiramisu for dessert, which was divine.  This dinner really made our Easter.  Our bill was REALLY reasonable too for a 5 star dinner.  We will definitely make the trip again just for the food here! Bonus: Sierra Nevada Pale Ale

WOW!  What a great place to eat.  I was doing a road trip from Highway 395 down Highway 4 back to the Bay.  I decided to stop at the first place I came to.  What a FIND!  Everything sounded so delicious, it took about 10 minutes to make a decision.  I started with the Carprese Salad, FABULOUS!  Then I had the most exquisite Frutti Di Mare ever!  The flavor left me dreaming of it for days afterwards.  I didn't think I would have room for desert, but I absolutely had to try the Creme Brulee Cheesecake...  To die for.  I'm going to make a special trip back here many times to try everything else on the menu.  And it was ALL so reasonbly priced for being in a boutique type touristy town!  I HIGHLY recommend!

The calamari and ceasar salad were so delicious  and bursting with flavor that we gobbled them up!! This is the best ceasar dressing I have ever eaten. When our entrees came (chicken alfredo and steak) we could only eat about 1/2 the portion due to our enthusiastic consumption of our first two courses; but, we were cheerfully given a taken home container for our leftovers. Everything we tried had excellent flavor and  nice extrea touches for the presentation. Loved the sprinkle of parmesan and basil on the calamari and the steak was actually cooked perfectly medicum rare, as ordered...which I have found is a rarity at most places. Also, the chicken in the alfredo pasta was moist and well seasoned. The inside of the restaurant is wonderfully decorated and feels cozy and spacious at the same time. They also offer outside seating and it is really nice to sit out there in the evening with an appetizer and a glass of one of the local wines they serve or an ice cold Peroni beer. The owners/operaters are and husband and wife team who are doing a bang up job of making this a noteable place. It is relaxed, comfortable and a gem to find in the little town of Murphys. They are even prepared for kids...they will help you find something to suit your little one's tastes and provide crayons and paper for the kid's to keep busy.
