This was our first visit. "Busy on a Friday" is always a good sign. We were greeted with smiles and seated immediately. The house red wine was excellent, tart and fruity. There was bread at the ready.  I ordered the angel hair pasta with mushrooms; the pasta was nicely cooked and the mushrooms were buttery and firm. Great textures. I thought the sauce was a bit bland but adding crushed pepper really perked it up.

My wife ordered the spaghetti with meat sauce; she also thought the sauce was a bit bland so next time she will add sausage to the dish.

We both finished with dessert: me with vanilla gelati and her with burnt cream. Both excellent and smooth.  Definitely a place we will go again.

Don't let the strip mall and dated decor deter you! The food is fantastic. We were here with a party of 7. We had h'orderves (meat and cheese plate), dinner (eggplant parmesan which was yummy and a huge portion), a couple drinks a piece (I drank a Chianti), and coffee with our dessert (amaretto deluca). It was a little pricey, but our waitress was great and so was the food. If you are in the mood for a good meal and a relaxed atmosphere, pop in and check them out.

FYI: It was pretty packed for the day after Christmas. No wait but every table was full. It wouldn't hurt to call ahead and make a reservation.

First visit early Thursday evening with my fiancee, the restaurant was fairly empty when we arrived but it began to fill as our dinner progressed. We both had Caesar salads, which for an additional 2.50 weren't much to write home about, but were good enough. I had the Cannelloni Al Forno and my fiancee had the Salmon special of the day. My dinner came out on a piping hot serving dish which kept my food nice and hot. The food was pretty good, better than what you may get at an Olive Garden or something, but at about an Olive Garden price. My fiancee said the salmon was fantastic and cooked to perfection. For dessert we had the burnt cream which was tasty. The waitresses and hostesses were very active and kept my water full (which is a feat, I drink a lot of water). The only negative I can attribute to our experience was how long our food took to arrive, after our salad we waited about 15-20 minutes for our entrees to arrive. Despite this, I do plan on returning to try out more of the menu, I know my fiancee will want to as well.

Our family of 22 had a birthday dinner for my mother in law on Tuesday. One sever for all of us and she did a great job. I had the chicken Piccatta and it was wonderful not too salty and not a lot of added butter. Could of had more capers, but it was great. Dinners come with soup or salad. I like the old school way. Everyone enjoyed their dinner all cleaned their plates. Total bill was $550 for 22 people! Not bad.

Angelo's has been around forever for a very good reason it is good food with great service. Our server was so sweet and accommodating.

    Meh.

The service here is great.  The place feels like they renovated a teriyaki joint by putting in some tall steakhouse booths from the 70's.  The bread they offered was great, the half-carafe of wine was very generous (more like 3/4 of a bottle).  The pasta...meh.  My wife's penne was definitely from a box and was overcooked (soft and mushy, not al dente).  My spaghetti was better, possibly homemade the day before.  The sauces were bland on both orders.  Salads were just lettuce.  There is great Italian to be had in Seattle.  Pasta Freska is awesome on Lake Union and Marcello's in the Roosevelt district has awesome pasta.  This place felt like I carried my tray along the cafeteria counter and pointed at a warming tray of old pasta with cafeteria lady's sauce.

On each point, there really isn't anything to complain about here except for the price.  Reasonable for good Italian, not so much for this Italian food.

I'm giving this a 5 because of the way they make my eggplant parmigiana dish exactly as I asked them to.  It swims in sauce, good sauce, and they add one sausage to the plate just for me.

Their shrimp and crab (mostly shrimp) canneloni bake with bubbling cheese is also quite good.   But today, the dietary shift is to veggies, and I am glad Angelo's has this covered for me (covered in healthy tomato sauce!).

The service has something, like heart.  It is rare these days.  The place is a little hard to spot from the main road due to sign being sort of faint and it should get a larger sign that is easy to spot from farther away, and another one on the building itself over the door.  I'm sure this is just politeness not screaming out, but the location requires that more visible signage be used, otherwise this is strictly a word-of-mouth place...you have to know some-boddy.  I've lived on Eastside since 97, and just found this place last year!  So I asked around and nobody I asked had heard of it.  :)   At least it's no tourist trap!!!!  Enjoy.

    Review of bar area only.

Betsy K and I ended up here for an after-work drink the other night.

I really liked this place. Cheap wells ($3.75? $3.50? help me out Bets).

It's the dark, homey interior you'd expect in the slightly divey bar attached to the restaurant.  Huge wrap around booth along one wall, big leather and diamond tucking everywhere. Awesome.

The bar staff was hilarious, and very involved in chatting up all the patrons (ie us and the regulars haunting the bar).

In another episode of "it's a small fucking world", I ran into a former co-worker. She was a bartender while she worked where I did nearly 2 years ago, and she was one of our bartenders that night.

This would be a great place for an Eastside HH!

It's strip mall location may make parking just a tad annoying at times, but it's easy to get to and find.

Ps. I'd love to go back enough to actually *meet* whoever goes here that orders Merlot and diet coke...together..in the same glass.

Snowy night and a 2 hour wait at Discount Tires to get the tires I ordered last week put on tonight. They where slammed, so I figured walk up to Angelo's for some Ca di Pian and some cannelloni.
Food definitely better this time, service just as great as last time, and the Italian bean soup? WOW! I see why this place has been around forever, and is still doing solid business...they staff here cares. At least the bar staff, as I have yet to eat in the dining room.
Definitely give this place a try, and I would bet you won't be disappointed!
    Cheers!

Angelo's is probably the cutest, most comfortable Italian restaurant I've been to since moving to the West Coast.  As many have mentioned previously, it truly is a gem hidden beneath a rundown, stripmall exterior, but once you have walked into their lobby, prepare to lose yourself for the evening.

We started off at the bar, which is very nice and creates such a pleasant atmosphere.  It's funny, as we shared a bottle of wine, all I could think of was the Olive Garden plug "When you're here, you're family."  I've never felt that way when eating at the OG, but at Angelo's, that claim would have been spot on.  The bartender was nice enough to give us a small plate of olives and cheese to nibble on while we waited for our table, as well.  I can't stress enough how impressed I am when a restaurant is packed but you don't have to raise your voice to hear the people sitting next to you.  I could have given this restaurant five stars without taking a bite.

For dinner, we tried the chicken parmigiana and the ravioli.  Both were cooked perfectly, which by then was no surprise to me.  The chicken never came even close to needing a knife to cut and the raviolis were enormous and filled to bursting with delicous cheeses and herbs.  Their sauce is also fantastic, and could not possible be confused for canned, generic fare.  Coupled with the yummy bread, we were stuffed by the time the waiter inquired about dessert.

The trouble, of course, is that when you have a five star meal and then see Tiramisu sitting proudly at the top of the dessert menu, no thanks is not an option.  Needless to say, it was so delicious that I embarrased myself willingly and ordered a second piece to go.  A good tiramisu is well worth a sacrifice of manners!

Such a fantastic experience - All I can say is it would be very bad for my wallet if this place was closer to where I live.  Bravo!

I'd start off by saying that this review is for the bar only but that should sorta go without saying.....

STIFF drinks!!  You know when you take a drink of an overly well poured alcoholic beverage and it sort of gives you the shivers in which you express by shaking your head back and forth while making the whinny type noise that hoarses make?  (If not, please allow me to provide an example the next time we meet.)  Well, that's the reaction you should expect after taking the tiniest sip of any hard-a drink from Angelo's.

The food is gracious and delectable.  I shared the Caprese salad which did have a little too much oil for my tastes but according to my dining companions it was on par.  There was a scrumptious fillet minion salad ordered as well and it tempted me to get my own but alas I decided to stay in scavenger mode...which led me to the clam chowder that someone else ordered.  Not a huge fan of carrots in my chowder but I really cannot complain at all about the rich, creamy goodness.  No need to add salt and pepper ladies and gents, we've got a real prize here!  Don't forget to dip the complimentary bread in the soup.  This all finishes well with a short nap.

It would be ridiculous not to mention the staff at Angelo's.  Everyone talks over the room.  It's great.  Picture hosting a small dinner at your house with friends and having to walk into the kitchen to grab something, maintaining conversation by inflating your voice to higher octaves so they can hear you in the other room.  Now you're at Angelo's!  It's comfortable and the staff and regulars alike keep everyone in on the conversation, even the newbies.  Very welcoming, great people and fabulous menu.

Any place that'll pour me a double of top shelf tequila on the rocks without batting an eye gets kudos in my books.  Not sure what it is, but every other place I order that I always get a pause and a look from the bartender.  Not here.

The atmosphere is comfortable and the crowd seemed to be nearly all regulars and of an older set.  The meat, cheese, and veggie appetizer plate was delicious and the penne pasta, while a small portion, was tasty.

A comfy place for after work drinks and decent pasta, but nothing that really stands out as memorable.  I'll update my review after going in there for a full dinner one night, since the sampling of food I had there was solid, but not enough to base an opinion on yet.

I showed up late for the pre-funk just before the "Yelp hits the Rink" UYE, and hit the lounge only to meet up with other super cool Yelpers.

Immediately I felt enveloped in familiarity, like your favorite blanket on the couch. Between the open space, relaxed atmosphere, and  cozy seating - I can easily see why people keep coming back here. It struck me as the perfect place to hide with a stiff drink after work. No one can hurt you in Angelo's!

Service was swift and very friendly - the waitress made me feel like a regular. I ordered a vodka coke and ate a slice of Bert's bread. The locals seemed very much at ease and the type that will politely leave you alone or say hello depending on you rmood.

It was my first visit, and after being there a scant 40 minutes I wasn't really ready to leave! Will definitely come back and soak up some more of the atmosphere. And booze of course.

Never judge a book by it's cover...

Right off the bat you'll notice the odd, strip-mall looking exterior which makes it look more like the Bada Bing strip club from the Soprano's rather than a fine dining Italian restaurant.  The parking is pretty large but quite often it gets packed to maximum capacity.

When Angelo's was suggested for this years choice restaurant for our work friends holiday luncheon I was a little hesitant, but, being the optimist and good sport that I am I said ok...

And boy am I glad I did. Delicious food which is consistently awesome. Very good quality sauces and high quality ingredients. That garlic bread is to die for! STIFF DRINKS, very attentive wait staff and the most fragrant roses on each table. Surprising, especially for winter time.

I came back later that evening for drinks in the lounge. It's totally old skool and divey. The dark wood paneling, old 70's retro Vegas lounge pleathery diamond-tucked style decor filled with colorful, laid-back patrons and easy going bartenders. I can totally see how this place can easily become my new afterwork watering hole.

Food is a little pricey, but very, very good. I like that they give you "enough" so you are full, but not stuffed or taking another pound of food home. It's "just the right amount".

Service? The service has been nothing less than outstanding every time we've been (about 4 times now).

This has truly been added to the "regular rotation" of restaurants my wife and I go to.

Walking in the door of the nondescript strip mall you have a choice: turn right and go into the comfortable, family friendly restaurant that screams neighborhood Italian bistro or turn left and go into the dark, wood paneled bar with studded barrel chairs on wheels, big deep matching booths and classic 1970s bar tables.

Wanting to be closer to the cheap, strong drinks we chose left. What came next was an enjoyable dinner with excellent service.

Stepping away from my usual chicken piccata I decided to order off their daily specials sheet. We started with a bed of arugula with heirloom tomatoes, buffalo mozzarella, olive oil and balsamic vinegar. With the high quality ingredients it was a delicious combination.

Moving to the entrees I had the seafood pasta with marinara. The sauce had a delicate flavor with fresh tomatoes jumping in your mouth but not overwhelming the seafood. The mussels were like little pillows of heaven that melted in your mouth and the prawns were perfectly cooked with a sweet, succulent flavor. The bay scallops were just OK but the other seafood more than made up for their lack of flavor.

The other entrée we had was the special of rigatoni with hot Italian sausage, broccoli and creaming gorgonzola sauce. The sauce was very nice and the blue cheese did not overpower the dish. The special made sausage and broccoli made for a very delicious combination.

We ended our evening with a light, fluffy and wonderful piece of tiramisu. You must save room for dessert when you go. It was the perfect ending to an enjoyable evening.

We ate here with some friends who are regulars, and had a great experience. Even later in the evening the staff was very tolerant of us as we got caught up talking and forgot to look at the menu about four times. They just kept coming back to check on us until we shut up long enough to figure out our order :)
The food was great, and I agree with others that the portions are just right. My fiance and I each took home a small box, just enough for a snack the next day. The bread was wonderful too.

Tosoni's is still my fave, but I'd visit Angelos again when I want more pasta than Tosonis serves (they do a lot of meat dishes there.)

OMG!  During our recent visit to Seattle & based on fellow yelpers' reviews, my husband & I chose Angelo's for dinner on Monday & had one of the worst dinners of our lives.  Yes, we had to sit in the bar in order to be served as the dining room was closed.  Yes, the bartender/server gave us good service.  Yes, our entrees (pasta with pesto for me & spaghetti w/marinara & mushrooms for my husband) tasted fine.  No, the lizard lounge atmosphere was not conducive to our dining experience.  No, the Monday Night football blaring from all TV sets didn't help.

We hastily ate, paid/tipped & left.   But - within the hour we were both feeling "funny" & needed to lie down.  The culprit of our discomfort was the mushrooms in my husband's entree.  I had eaten 2 forkfuls of his dinner while he finished the entire dish.  Therefore, he was more uncomfortable than me.   His stomach upset lasted for 2 days.    Never, never again........(first time I had to disagreed w/my fellow yelpers)

It's hard to find really good Italian in Seattle, and this may be one of the better places I've been to. Don't let the strip mall location deter you.

The Caesar salad dressing is made on the premises and it's very thick. When we put in the order we asked that they have a light hand with the dressing (to avoid having the lettuce completely drenched in dressing) and the kitchen was able to oblige us.

The pasta tasted like it was freshly made. I had the linguine with pesto which was excellent. The pesto also seemed freshly made - you can actually see pieces of basil leaf - and had pine nuts which I love.

The bread also seemed fresh - not amazing, but not the usual, hard crusty stuff you usually get in restaurants.

The restaurant has tables and big, half-circle booths with high backs, which provide privacy (and possibly noise reduction if you're a boisterous party). The only quibble I had was that our waiter was a little off-putting. Maybe he was new and nervous, but he was a little too familiar with us  - we don't need the sir/ma'am treatment, but he was a little odd.
