It's such a shame about this place. Such a cute location, good food, patio and indoor dining but the service is so absolutely terrible that you actually feel like an American tourist in Paris. It's like they're doing it on purpose because they hate your president and your blockbuster movies. So bad.
So so bad.

The locale is awesome and decor is so adorable.
I wanted to love it, but my food tasted like bland mush and my friend's steak sandwich was tuff as tire tread.
Never again.
I hate this place. It's the Auntie Em's of downtown. Is that a good thing?? Heck NO! (Read my review.) Down to the rustic-turned-run-down interior, hipsters that give me looks as dirty as their appearance, and the MOTHER-EFFING PLASTIC CUPS!!!
I shouldn't judge them just on appearance (albeit, a really poor one) and an experience at another restaurant that is in no way related to them, but honestly, the food and experience was subpar at best. I've been wanting to give this place a chance for so long, all negative Yelp reviews considered, since it's one of the few places open in downtown on Sundays. But they were so right - it really feels like a shell of what it once was or at least could be. And that's unfortunate, because it's one of the cuter cafes in downtown. What a disappointment.

This place is great. I have been wanting to eat here since I first moved to Downtown but haven't had the chance. Today was a great day to make my way over there and enjoy eating outside.
We had just been to Paris in March and always love to go to places with french fare or a bistro feel. The menu had some pretty traditional french food like croquet monsieur which Brian ordered (he couldn't get enough of these in Paris) and I had the ratatouille.
Our waitress was very pleasant. We sat outside enjoying the weather and eating the bread we were served. The bread was very fresh. Our drinks were constantly refilled. Brian like the croquet monsieur. It was a thicker sandwich than they serve in Paris but still good. The ratatouille had a great mixture of spices and I enjoyed it.
I tend to find on Yelp that many places that are French or remotely French for that matter receive lower reviews...I wonder why...

Damn, I'm upset I missed breakfast here. I should have known when I saw "lunch menu" that there is/was a breakfast menu.
This place is quaint. How many places in L.A. can brag that adjective?
Sunday morning traffic did not require upstairs seating, to my disappointment, but I did experience it on my trip to the bathroom and it was lovely. The restaurant is not frilly nor fancy, just sort of straightforward. The menu categories are simple and descriptions are provided only where absolutely necessary.
I went for the steak sandwich while my sexy little friend went for the spicy sausage sandwich. The steak was cooked perfectly (little spots of warm pink) and the bread was good enough to stand on it's own. I was disappointed that my salad was absolutely drenched in dressing, though. Spicy sausage was easy to eat (chewy steak sometimes is awkward to eat), not too spicy, and very tasty.
Overall, a delicious and perfect weekend lunch spot. I'd love to try some other things next time, maybe escargot or crepes or a savory crepe with escargot in it (barf... joke). They have coffee/espresso too, but no drink menu. Hmmm...

new colorsssss, new menu , new French chef, new management ,can fell the difference ...so let give a shot .this place has a new life ....and food/price really good.....
Went here for breakfast on a Sunday. It's nice. In a weird way it gives you a NYC vibe (although the buildings are much too small).
We sat outside and had omelets and coffee. The service was fine. I got to read the paper and lounge.
I had the ham and cheese omelet. The eggs were quite fluffy.
Uh, that's about it. Nothing much else to report. Uh... so, how are you doing today? Fine? Yeah... me too. Wait a minute... What's that thing on your shoulder? No... the other shoulder. Oh my god... oh my... no... no... NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!
The croquet monsieur is out of this world! I think it's egg bread, ham and cheese with bechamel layer of goodness toasted ontop.. hmm hmm so rich! The fries are very French, too many to eat at one serving. But there is no Dijon on the table.. I'm sorry but it's not truly French without that.

One of the best lunch spots downtown. Very friendly service, beautiful outdoor area upstairs where you can get a full-on view of the gentrification happening all around you.
I always get the Caprese Sandwich, which is an odd choice at a French place, but it's delicious, and the Goat Cheese Salad is also top-drawer. I look forward to coming back and trying some of their hot dishes. Man I wish this place was open for dinner...
It's pretty reasonably priced and the portions are perfect. I honestly can't say that I've ever had a better lunch downtown. It loses a star for basically not being exceptional, just very very good. But there's absolutely nothing wrong with that.

This place makes me feel like I'm in some pseudo-European city eating outside. The food, however, is lacking. I normally get the chicken sandwich with fries, the sandwich being filling but eh, and the fries being, what fries should always be - crispy and delicious. Coming at lunchtime on a weekday, the service was extremely slow. Not sure if it's because we sat on the patio, or what, but we practically had to beg for a menu and then flag someone down to take our order after 20 minutes. Nice place to come if you want a long, leisurely outdoor lunch with a friend. Prices were your typical not fast-food lunch prices. $10-20.
Downtown is a strange, eclectic mix of streets and stores because of places like Angelique. It sticks out like a sore thumb compared to the insanity that is the fabric district just one street over, but once inside you feel like you're on a mini getaway in France, away from all the hustle and bustle of a metropolis.
The food was so so.. I liked the atmosphere more than the omlette and crepe we ordered. The crepe seemed overpriced considered it was cold and just had a thin slab of jam in the middle. The fresh OJ was a giant cup though.. and our waiter had a hint of a French accent, I think.. it was too windy to sit outside so we chose a window seat on the first floor. Our service was excellent since we were right next to the kitchen. Street parking always sucks, but we got lucky that day.
I think I might come back in the summer, sit outside and try something different.
Angelique Cafe is a great French cafe in the heart of downtown, LA. The food is very tasty, especially breakfast. I recommend the chocolate croissants and omelette's with chicken sausage and mushrooms. The baguettes are great too. However, don't expect the best service due to the limited amount of waiters available. You might need to follow-up with your waiters a couple times to get exactly what you want, but overall the food was great, reasonably priced, and the atmosphere had a French cafe feel with the outdoor patio space and interior space. I recommend all downtowners to try this place for breakfast at least once, and experience it yourself.

Since i have been trying to stick to my low carb / low sugar diet, i decided to trek out to Angelique for a salad. The decor is pretty rustic with a few tables inside, but most are out front and 3 on the side. Parking can be a little expensive depending on which lot you decide to park at.
I opted for the warm goat cheese salad over mixed greens, eggs, tomatoes, NO ONIONS, and decided to add grilled chicken for protein. As the old saying goes "don't judge a book by its cover" my salad was the complete opposite. It looked amazing but tasted horrible. The salad dressing was plopped all in the middle and it had a sour taste that i didn't care for. The grilled chicken was extremely dry and guess what i found hiding in the middle of the salad???? yup, ONIONS.
The place wasn't extremely busy but my waiter never came back to check on me or ask to see if i needed a refill. I had to wait 15 mins to get the bill so i could pay. The only good i thing i can say about the salad is that the goat cheese was really good.

Perfect spot for breakfast downtown. Driven by a hundred times before I ever went in. Go on a day its nice outside, they have two outdoor patios, one upstairs.
They serve delicious fluffy omelettes brought to you servers with charming french accents. Try the Omelette Provencale with "the herbs of Provence," a delicious aromatic experience, served with rosemary potatoes and a good sized serving of greens. The OJ is FRESH squeezed, and they give you a huge glass. The coffee was good for a diner. Also one of the few places downtown that makes a good crepe.
Prices are reasonable, 9 bucks for an omelette with potatoes and greens, 11-12 for a sandwich. The service was better than your standard French restaurant.
cute, quaint, lovely setting - great place to be on such a gorgeous day in L.A.
I'm a docent for the L.A. conservancy, and my tour ends right around the corner - so i thought i'd try it out today...
a friend tagged along on my tour, and afterwards we were quite hungry... we weren't in any hurry - so we didn't really need the service to be attentive - but it really was rather painful. we were sitting at the smallest table in the upstairs patio - far removed from everything - which made for a great way to just hang out, talk and eat... but when we wanted more water, or a new fork (after dropping it) or the coffee we'd asked for... *crickets*
food: we split the lunch portion of grilled leg of lamb - each got a decent salad, lots of fries, and the lamb was pretty flavorful. with the coffee (at the way end of the meal) the total came to $22... not too shabby if you're sharing, but expensive if you're not.
i'd probably come back - but only if it's a day to lounge around and linger with no hurries...

I don't usually venture too far out of Fairfax District, but Kat and I decided to take a wild adventure to downtown to visit a friend's restaurant. After circling the cross streets we were given for a nice chunck of the afternoon we decided to give up and find another place to eat. At about 1 PM we happened upon this gem in the middle of scummy downtown: Angelique Cafe.
I had the salmon which was good. Not anything mind blowing. The house salad was okay, but the best part of the experience was the atmosphere. Quaint, cozy, cute, cute, cute! I would go back again solely for enchanting look of the restaurant.
Hey this place was not all bad! The server really made it for us...he gave us free OJ and bread and stuff....It was the butt-crack of dawn and we got serenaded by a couple of homeless men with great voices..
Not too many veggie options....the potatoes were bomb....the crepes...eh. could have been bigger and with more filling....they were a little cold. I blamed it on sitting outside...but....is it ever really that cold in LA?
I might go there for lunch....I heard the ratatouille is good...
Again....I can sit outside with my dog...so we like that...
I would probably reserve this place for coffee and a croissant...

I love this place! Everytime I have to go downtown for some fabric or cheap goods, I stop here first!
I've only been for breakfast (though the lunch/dinner menu looks good) Their crepe with black forest ham and egg is SO YUMMY! I also like just ordering some coffee and having thier sliced baguettes with butter & jam. It's simple but delicious.
I've had the goat cheese and fine herbs omelette and a couple of their other omelettes which were very good. All breakfasts come with mixed greens salad and rosemary potatoes.
The orange juice is fresh squeezed. The service has always been good in my book. I'm usually there on weekends and am not in a rush those days so I don't care how much time good food takes.
It's so cute to sit on that corner cafe (outside) on a beautiful day.

Angeliques saved me from madness when I first moved to LA.
My top 5 reasons to come:
*It's a flatiron building! kind of..with an outdoor patio! Whether you're coming from NY or Rotterdam, the building itself will make you feel at home..
*There are no grocery stores and few affordable restaurants within walking distance of my above-a-zipper-store apt. Angelique is affordable and healthy.
*Great rattatoille. My mom makes great rattatoille. It's like comfort food.
She's dutch, not french, no clue why she makes it!
*When I had no money, I'd save up, subsist on eggs so once a week I could come out for their cheese plate with salad--totally affordable, and they'd smile and let me sit there reading and munching for hours!
My day-off-for-myself-treat! To me, just as nice as a spa day.
*Their soups, salads and fries all rock. Really, it's the little things.
Wait service, though, seems to be hit or miss..even with the same people..sometimes great, sometimes awful.

Am I in skid row?
Very tiny place. I was really hankering for some French food, and I discovered from an internet search, and since it was pretty close by to where I lived, I decided to check it out. Um....i don't really venture past flower street, usually I stay on Figueroa. You can almost miss the place since it's in a corner. I know people are saying that Angelique's sooooo good. But honestly, I was disappointed. The food was just average, the soup was really salty, and when I asked for some rosemary for my dish, they gave me a dried twig. I was expected some fresh ingredients, especially for a French dig. Anyhow, at least it was cheap. Probably won't go again.

Went here today for breakfast. I doubt I go back. The service was soooo slow. Then we get runny eggs. Yuck!
Worst service ever! We went there for brunch then were ignored for a good 10 minutes, finally went and got the server ourselves. We never received our drinks until again we got up and had to go remind someone to bring them, when they finally brought my soda they brought me a used glass with lemonade still in the bottom? Then when the food came mine was wrong and we were still missing a friends drink. I said something about all the problems and the made no attempt to apologize of fix the situation whatsoever. Plus the food wasn't even very good!
I've only been here for breakfast, and I've decided I NEED to come back for lunch. Experiences so far = fluffy eggs, perfectly dressed salad, and delicious potatos. Plus, they make an impressive cappucino! You somehow manage to feel like you're in a quaint Parisian town, even though you're in the middle of downtown.

I tend to end up in Downtown LA a lot and this place is walking distance from a friends. I didn't care for the Salad Nicoise... nothing too special about it. The menu is quite extensive with a variety of sandwiches (hot or cold) and salads. However, I wouldn't come out of the way to come to the restaurant.

Cute and cozy with good lunch, breakfast foods. the patio seats are nice for the experience, you feel away from l.a. until your meal ends. I wish that they had a beer | wine license because it would be perfect to have a glass of sauvignon blanc with a croque monsieur on a sunny saturday morning.
Friendly Staff~

Went for an early morning walk with our English Bulldog and ended up here. I'd been meaning to try it for a while and my husband was into it so we stopped in and sat on the patio. We were the first customers on Sat. morning. It was nice on the patio and they were cool with our puppy. And of course she is a good girl! The coffee was AMAZING! I got the Omelette Provencale (Tomatoes, garlic & herbs of Provence), on the menu on their website, I just noticed, it says it's $6.95, but I think it was more like $9.95. It was worth it. It's really cool they give you a nice super fresh baby spring mix salad with your breakfast, that is soooo me! And the bread is fresh and a nice change from boring toast. The eggs were really fluffy, even with whites only, and full of fresh tomato and just enough garlic flavor. Fresh herbs throughout and the potatoes were super clean and fresh. I'd definitely go back, I'd love to try the eggplant and tomato casserole. The staff was accommodating and not overly "in your face". We had a nice relaxing Saturday morning breakfast that I was totally not expecting but was totally impressed with! Thanks G man and Angelique! We'll see you soon.

i love angelique. good prices, decent service, awesome caprese sandwich. perfect skinny fries. the lemon gelato comes served in a carved out lemon. i love the patio cause honestly it's kinda dirty inside. hey just like the real paris!
This is one of my favorite places in Los Angeles. I love being downtown and having great French comfort food, adds to the overall experience.
Breakfast are great with a large group of friends, lunch is good too.
You can't go wrong. The patio is quaint! You won't regret it.
First time we came to Angelique was when we were apartment hunting downtown and wanted to try one of the local places that was now open for Sunday brunch. That was back in September 2006, and we liked it alright but the service was kind of iffy, but otherwise good.
We came back yesterday, for our wedding anniversary brunch. There's few places open in downtown on the weekend, so this place is good. It's in walking distance of where we currently live, so we took a short walk over there.
Husband got another omelet Provencals and had it with the potatoes and a side of sausage. His meal also came with what seemed like a REALLY big side salad.
I'm not really into eggs (which is mostly what the omelets are made of seemingly a dozen eggs (joking) and overstuffed at that along with the meat or veggies that you might be made with). I tried a bite of the sausage and it seemed to me rather overly salted and otherwise flavorless. I was glad I was getting something simple.
I ordered the ham & cheese crepe which needed no salt as the ham was just salty enough. My plate also came with a smaller bit of salad with a touch of dressing. The salad was unexpected by either of us and still, it was a nice touch. I think I personally could have used a some potatoes instead or something with the crepe, but otherwise it was pretty good, and nothing close to as overfilling as the omelet was the last time I ordered here last year.
Service was just ok, I noticed that people who already knew what they wanted to drink or eat when sat, seemed to get quicker service. (If you order coffee first off when you get seated it seems a little better experience vs. forgetting what you really want to have in the morning and wanting to look over the menu). Husband was asked if he wanted another cup of coffee, rather than just offering it. Also if you want water with your breakfast you may have to ask for it, as we didn't and actually never got any. I ordered a diet soda and it came in a can with an accompanying straw in a plastic cup w/ ice. No refill issues with me, as I drank the whole thing. =)
The French bread that comes with the breakfast is just that, a little sliced baguette which is neither too tasty or filling, but does help (along with the salad) to cleanse the palette just a bit of any egg-like taste you might have.
I'm sure we'll be back at some point again, but the lunch menu looks very interesting and much varied vs. the limited omelet filled menu at breakfast.

Good seating area outside, two floors. French onion soup quite tasty. Thought I might find more to eat there, but most things seemed a little French for my taste. BF had the croque monsieur and only ate like two bites it was way to rich and completely drenched in greasy cheese. I do wish I could knock down the space and build my own restaurant there because it's a great spot, but in the meantime I probably wouldn't go there again.

If I were trying to fool someone into thinking I knew LA, I'd take them here. The setting is amazing. Cute, hip little exposed brick joint. I went there for breakfast and the food was tres magnifique.
I had a huge omellette, yummy rosemary potatoes and a salad. The salad had some sort of mustardy dressing that left me wanting to slip it under the table, but the fact that the other two items were so good, combined with the fact that its CHEAP (7 bucks?), hip, and so tasty... I have no choice but to affirm Cafe Angelique is a city-treasure.

We had brunch at Angelique Cafe recently. A quaint "asian managed" French place wedged between the crossroad between two busy downtown streets (Spring + Main) that intersect at the outdoor patio of this place. Though we didn't come here for the French fanfare, we enjoyed the french-inspired breakfast - my lady friend had the Omelette Provinciales (tomatoes, garlic, and french herbs) and I had a rather non-localized "make your own omelette" special (Spinach, Mushrooms, and Ham). Both scrumptious, well portioned (American portions), and prefaced with the obligatory French rolls with jam/butter. The included side salad was fresh, and the potatoes (garlic and herbs?) was yummy. The server was pleasant and attentive, dodging around the tight two-seaters settings to briskly refill our ice waters (with a lemon). This place also has a small indoor seating area and an "upstairs" that I haven't checked out before, but many people like the squishy outdoor seating reminiscent of the plazas in Paris - minus the roaring SUVs that rumble by. They appear to be canine friendly as we brought along our pooch pal who sat at our feet (away from the non-existent aisles). An asian lady, who appears to be running the show, whisked our check and obviously had an eye towards the waiting line. One thing memorable though, is the Lavazza latte I ordered towards the end of the experience - ironically, Lavazza is from Italy - but I enjoyed my cup of nonetheless. May it be French or Italy, who cares - I'll come back soon.
Cute. Wish the food was better. Loved the waiter, very soft. They supposedly make most of their chacuterie & have pastry made by a relative's santa monica french bakery.

The best omelettes in LA.
A gorgonzola and walnut salad with hunks (I said HUNKS) of real gorgonzola cheese bigger than your thumb. No sorry-ass cheese crumbs at Angelique, no way.
Service is good, not overly fast or friendly, but if it was, it wouldn't be French, now would it???
Prepare to take a little time, say, at least 45 minutes. This is not one of those 15 or 20 minure dine and run places.
Breakfast here is pretty good for people watching (surprising in this part of Downtown) - the Fashion District attracts, well, fashionable people. Have a seat outside and the only thing that might be an irritant are the buses on Main and Spring - but this is one of the best alfresco dining places Downtown.
(Edit added May 2007) - Angelique's was sold several months ago. The food is still great, but something real unfortunate has happened to the service. It was slow before, but now it is nonexistent. Better have a week or two to wait for your meal. Maybe they can make like a hip hotel and require 2 week advance ordering... Took it down a star.

I'm sure this is a winner for those working in the Mart! But for those of us that don't work downtown, we can only partake for a Saturday breakfast. The building looks like old San Francisco and the interior looks like it belongs in any other major metropolitan city; quaint, cramped and cozy. This french bistro serves up fresh goods not yet found for downtown breakfast. I can only compare the food to Dusty's in Silverlake as the menu is somewhat similar.... yes, French.
The service was family-friendly and I love a place that doesn't feel like home.. french accents and style satisfy my taste for variety just a few blocks from home.
I can't remember what i ordered.. possibly a crepe or omelet. I had a salmon and salad for lunch once. The quiche is great, but then again, i love almost any quiche. You can't really go wrong here, good food, good atmosphere and good service. A little taste of travel in the midst of ever-changing downtown.

Located at the V-tersection of Spring and Main Streets is a quaint and authentic French eatery. It is a true sore thumb in the southern area of the Historic Core of DTLA. The Angelique Cafe serves up meaty-hearty entres that are traditional of French fare... and has a very extensive selection of pt (if you (ew) like that sort of thing). All in all, if you like French food (I don't get it), you'll love Angelique. Check it out. Plus, the owner is to freakin' die for. She could set up a booth on this corner and probably make just as much revenue from people wanting to meet and greet.

Food & atmosphere are great! This little gem is the perfect place on a lazy Sunday. Every time we go it seems like the service is super slow. At first I thought it was due to the number of people but there are many times when there aren't many people! Not only do they not give top service but the main guy, maybe the manager gets very snappy. This is what keeps us away sometimes. All in all the food is great and the service can use some work.

Ah, Angelique Cafe. I discovered this "quaint" French country spot a couple of years ago through Jonathan Gold's review. Decided to check the place, been there a few times, took a couple of friends to enjoy al fresco dining in a setting that will remind you of Paris @ Union Square.
I decided to take another friend here a couple of weeks ago after going to the Flower Market and to my shock, it was closed! It can't be. I even posted about its "demise" on one of the threads here at Yelp.
So when I was about to update the business information to mark it "Closed", I decided to call the place to confirm. GREAT, they are still open. The French madame on the other line told me that there was a shoot that day so they had to close. Damn them industry people (just kidding).
The food (breakfast and lunch) is basic and simple, but I greatly enjoy the atmosphere. If I miss NYC, all I have to do is drive east on the 10 and head over to this place.

So I finally went to Angelique's and it turned out to evoke a resounding "ehhh" from my tummy.
What was had:
Omelette Provincale and Coffee
It was O.K. ... I usually prefer my omelette's with more cheese and more herbs ... mmm in essence more flavor.
The service was slow.
The place is cute, has the whole frenchy thing going on. I mean, it's cool that it's right on a fork that divides Broadway (or is it Main?) and Spring St. right at the edge of downtown but other then that I'd rather go scarf down a fatty omelette elswhere.
Oh...and we bumped in to the grumpy nurse from E.R...that was cool.
