Today I died and went to heaven. Heaven being Angeline's.  I just had THE most amazing fried chicken of my entire life. It came with amazing parmesan green beans and yummy yummy gravy!! Also, I tried my boyfriend's VooDoo Shrimp (bbq) and it was amazing as well. The service is so sweet and the owner seems like such a kind, gentle man. The ambiance is adorable with dim lights and cute music. Also, the beverages are delicious (sweet tea & strawberry lemonade) and they have a ton of choices of alcoholic beverages.

I am truly excited to go back and try more yummy dishes... or stick with the same. I have heard that their dessert is DELICIOUS but i was way too full to try any. (darn) Maybe next time.

The fried chicken is absolutely delicious!  I only had a piece, but I was definitely craving more after my last bite.

I ordered the Jambalaya, which had so much delicious chicken and sausage in it.  The best I've ever had for sure.  I want to go back here so badly!  I will definitely get sweet tea next time and try their hush puppies.

Okay. I saw the stars and thought maybe I was crazy...but then reading some reviews I'm glad to learn (that on this topic) I'm not. Angeline's is good - And I say just "good" because somethings are mediocre and other things are amazing.

Our party ordered a bunch of stuff, so I put my fork on everyone's plate:

The oysters, hush pupies and cheese grits appetizers are SO yummy!

The mashed sweet potatoes with vanilla and ginger with the fried chicken? SHUT UP!! Those are amazing and have been added effective immediately to the menu for this Thanksgiving.

Bread pudding, SHUT UP, AGAIN! Delicious!

The Shrimp Creole...shrimp, poorly cooked rice and tomato paste - no seasoning, no spice. It wasn't just "not good," it was bad. I didn't even bother finishing it .I took the leftovers home and correct them, because that dish was wrong.

Also, we had reservations and still waited for 40 mins.

I mean, I'll go back. I have been here more than once already. I just won't necessarily be picking this place.

Angeline's been on my bookmark list for a while, and I always pass by it on my way to work. Finally came here recently and I had the hush puppies (per Yelp reviewers' recommendations), fried chicken, shrimp po'boy, and the sauteed brussel sprouts.

- Hush puppies: first time having them; fairly interesting! The side of butter was the perfect finishing touch, for it definitely would have been a little too dry without it.
- Fried chicken: very moist and buttery; perfect with the gravy. I'm not a huge fan of sweet potato but the BF liked it, and the green beans were a nice touch so that I felt I was at least eating one semi-healthy thing.
- Shrimp Po'boy: good but not my favorite. I usually don't like horseradish but I didn't mind it in my sandwich this time!
- Sauteed brussel sprouts: could have passed on this; many of them were way too charred.

Overall, a good experience that featured some unusually interesting food. I would recommend this place if you're looking for something different!

we weren't sure if this place was open from the looks of the exterior, but once we stepped indoors it was like I stepped into New Orleans!

The decor was warm and cozy and staff was friendly.  It had a really good vibe, smiles were on everyone's faces, and the menu just made me drool!

Everything sounded good and once the food came, it did not disappoint :)

We ordered:

Boudin-LOVED the seasoning and texture was just right!  It had the right balance of rice and meat.

Honey smothered baby back ribs with potato salad-yummy finger licking good (if you enjoy ribs on the sweeter side).  I'm a big fan of honey so it definitely hit the spot!

Fried chicken with green beans-it was like the best chicken strips I've ever had (it was boneless),  It came with this gravy that was creamy and super savory.  The green beans were blanched and not over cooked.

Jambalaya-texture was perfect and was not like mush(how some places can overcook the rice) and I loved the perfectly chunked sausages in it.

Parmesan crusted mac n cheese-HEAVEN.  It may not be the usual imitation cheddar that most people are use to associating mac n cheese with.  It was a light white cheddar with a touch of sharpness buried underneath a perfectly crusted parmesan top.  Once I laid eyes on it, I knew I would enjoy breaking it down with my spoon.  I dug in and just as expected the top had enough crunch and the bottom was just perfect where the cheese did not mask the macaroni, but was enough where every inch was covered with yummy creaminess!  We fought over the crunchy bits on the side of the dish lol

Sweet Tea-not as sweet as I've had in the south, but definitely one of the better sweet teas in the bay area.

Beignets-it's no cafe du monde.  It was not as fluffy and slightly over fried that it resembled a chinese donut, but nonetheless I enjoyed it.

Flourless chocolate cake topped with a dollop of marscapone cheese-ooey-gooey goodness in the center that just melts in on your spoon and in your mouth.  The marscapone cheese gave it a nice creaminess and fattiness along with the molten chocolate in the middle.  It was bliss!

Service-excellent, the staff was friendly and very helpful with recommendations, but then again I don't think you can go wrong since everything on the menu sounded so delicious!

I am so glad I finally decided to step in and try this place out.  It's a place where I can see myself becoming a regular.

If you're under your cholesterol quota AND you're craving a good meal, go to Angeline's, get some hush puppies (with a bit of butter of course), some fried chicken, add a side of ribs and throw in a banana's foster.

That said, my favorite dishes happen to be the voodoo shrimp, and both the mushroom and the regular jambalaya.

I have never left Angeline's unsatisfied so check it out for yourself! Just don't leave without trying some hush puppies. While they're likely not the best hush puppies in the universe....they probably are within the city limits of Berkeley =D.

Ah. Definitely a keeper?

Ribs. Fried Chicken. mmmmm. The ribs fell off the bone. And I fell out of my chair. A good selection of food, a good selection of drinks, and a good selection of me feeling the need to unbutton my pants. GET YOUR HEAD OUT OF THE GUTTER! lol

The line generally gets long around...hmmm, always...so plan accordingly. The host/manager is very accommodating and honest about the times as he try to get you seated as soon as you can.

Now for my confessions - I don't know much about cajun cooking and Louisiana Kitchens. I do have a smattering of knowledge of soul food but I would be on the firing line if I said that they were the same. As such, I can't really tell you if this is authentic but I can tell you that it was tasty. I am truly between 3 and 4 stars because of two reasons:

Depth and Price.

Pricey. It's a little too costly for my wallet but it is good. A few dollars off or a 15% discount and I'll return. I didn't try too much of the food so I can't be a confident judge on this but 17 dollars for a half slab of ribs that is served with potato salad? Where's my veggies? =( I'm just being honest about the ribs that I had and the Fried Chicken that I had more than one bite of =x Sorry David. I wuz in ur seat, stealin ur foodz.

Shallowy (yeah, i'm coining words. waddup!). The food is good but when you get ribs and there's only potato salad, you feel as though there is still too much of the plate still showing. I would have liked some of those Parmesan green beans or some type of vegetables with my meal. Come on. Please? Pretty pretty please?

Angeline, you're beautiful...but not in the, let's go steady kind of way. We've both got some maturing to do.

I went here for the first time last night and it was fabulous. Everything I tasted was delicious. I ordered the mac and cheese which has a nice an crusty top. A few friends ordered shrimp dishes and just the thought of my one bite of their dishes is making me want to return for dinner tonight.

The staff is incredibly friendly. We asked to move tables once a larger table opened and they moved us without a word.

I was so rooting for this place when I walked in and was feelin the vibe.. The food just didn't match up to the hype of the place..

The hush puppies were dry and a tad burnt (Not enough sweet cream butter to save this dish).. The mac n cheese was aiight...(the parmesan crusting saved the dish).. And the steak.. Imma steak snob and i've had better at Tad's! ahhaah.. The sparkling lemonade was cool and refreshing though! haha.. The only saving grace of this place..

Don't get me wrong I would definitely go this place for the ambiance and the music! But food wise... Well.. Not so much..

I've been to New Orleans twice and have eatting with the locals as well as at places that the locals recommended. This is as good as it gets in the East Bay when it comes to Nawlins style food!  All the other "New Orleans" style restaurants I've been to in California do not compare to this place!

Take My Order Please:
-Shrimp Po Boy
- Swamp Water (half lemonade half sweet tea)
- Beignets from Cafe Du Monte

All About the Food:
Shrimp Po boy was great! fresh cabbage, toasted bun, great tasting fried shrimp and a lil bit of sauce.  Swamp Water is always great, other names are Muddy Water or Arnold Palmer (w/o sweet tea).  Beignets.....I've been to Cafe Du Monte 4 times and I have even bought a box to bring home to make. It's tough to make it taste 100% like the ones you get near Bourbon Street. These were definitely the closest I have ever had away from New Orleans!  Not too overcooked, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Plus, the over excessive amount of powdered sugar! mMmmm.

Foodless Review:
When I looked this place on yelp, I saw a 2 star from an idiot who said "the decor is outdated" WOW....you're freakin' stupid! The decor is New Orleans style, dont expect EVERY place to be modern.  To the guy who wrote that....take a lesson in learning about new cultures you dumb....    anyways =P..the staff is pretty friendly. I thought the manager was just a customer who started up a conversation and our waitrous gave good recommendations for my friends who have never had southern food. So far I haven't had to wait in a line, but it is always full whenever I eat here.

Would I go back?:
I already have. Plus, my college friend that I brought here came back with his gf because he loved it so much and the 3 other friends I went with all agreed that it was a great place to eat! I just recommend ordering the actual New Orleans food or asking the waitor/waitress for recommendations.

I came here for lunch, and thought the food was alright. I would give a 3.5.

Because I didn't get a chance to yelp the menu before I came here, I asked the waittress for some recommendations and ended up order the Shrimp Po'Boy Sandwich.

The fried shrimp was pretty good. It had just the right amount of fried breadcrumbs and a good amount of shrimp. The sandwich bread was also very soft and toasted to just the right amount. I thought the side salad was very delicious as well. The dressing is tangy and sweet. However, the sandwich was slightly bland b/c it didn't really have any distinct flavor to it. I felt like I needed to add ketchup or sauce to make it more tasty.

Overall, I thought it was so-so. I ended up paying near $20 and I didn't think it was worth what I payed for though.

Mmmm I get warm feelings just thinking about Angelines. I had my first gumbo ever here and it was absolutely fantastic. It was so savory, thick and hearty that I was sad when I finally finished it all. I also got to try out hush puppies here which were an absolute delight...they sound and look so cute....and each one is fortified with plaque lovin artery poppin flavor - which is well worth it :-)

The atmosphere is also very lovely. It's dimly lit and they utilize utensils and tools that bring a lot of southern culture that many of us northerners may not be aware of such as drinking water from mason jars. Service is friendly and attentive as well.

This place is definitely worth a visit at least once, especially for someone who's never experienced a true New Orleans meal. Go try it now!

I think a hall of fame place needs a bit more information in it, so I'll follow up. If you are a first timer here, you should strongly consider the fried chicken. It comes with this bacon-gravy and veggies and it all tastes like heaven. There is also fried catfish that is served in the same fashion, but I personally think the fried chicken is better. You won't be anything less than delighted with either though.

I need to branch out, because I tend to order the same things, but I have confidence that you can't go wrong with anything you order here. For dessert, get the beneigts

I am shocked at how good our meal was. Shocked! We had such a good dinner here!!!

I think I've discovered the perfect meal:
Starter: Hush Puppies
Entree: Cajun shrimp (this stuff is bomb.)
Side: Macaroni and Cheese
Dessert: Beignets

=$38 including tax and tip. (Say what?! Lovely.)

No questions, just get this and you will be happy.

Service is so good here it gives me warm fuzzies just thinking about it. We had to wait 30 minutes before being seated but the guy was very attentive to us and the other 20 couples standing out the door (I kid, there were 4 couples including us..). I should note: this place is a couple's place to go. Not a family place. Er, maybe that's just because I went on a Friday night.

I've been here several times and each time the food is delicious. I didn't think the catfish was all that great but the jambalaya, shrimp creole, ribs and gumbo are good.

And if you come here, you absolutely must order the hush puppies! It looks like a meatball but it's tastes kinda like cornbread (a mon avis)

I've ventured to Angeline's probably near 7+ times now, and definitely have a craving for it every now and then.

Exceptional food at an exceptional price in an incredibly cute place with really attentive service. The owner will frequently come out to check on his customers, which I always find very appealing.

I do recall once the owner coming out and asking my friend and I if we could change tables (because another larger group was coming in that could utilize the space). He was very courteous about it, so we were more than chill with moving -- but he went ahead and bought us dessert for simply helping them out! Cool huh?

I have tried and enjoyed the:
- Oyster Po'Boy (OMG so good...HUGE portion of fried oysters in a roll with the complete fixings of some good ass mustard, coleslaw stuff, and other things I can't remember now because my mind is at a blur as to how good it is...).
- Gumbo: Very heart-warming!
- Buttermilk Fried Chicken + Mashed Sweet Potatoes + Green Beans = brings a smile to my face EVERY time.

Every time I come here, I normally split two of the above choices with a friend, and we always leave super full and happy!

I've also had the Beignet dessert here which are mighty tasty (very guilty-conscience enhancing I must say). And the platter with all the variety of meats/ribs/etc - which were enjoyable, but my favorites lie in the above 3.

This place is PERFECT for a date or a one-on-one convo/outing with a good friend.

The only thing I can complain about this place is that it's too small! (But that's nothing they can really control...). I wanted to have my birthday here for about 30+ people...but the owner said their place would be way too small to hold the party..=(.

Anywho, I'll have to come back again soon because my review makes me crave...

I haven't come across a cajun/Louisiana kitchen spot like this in SF yet.

I had the Shrimp Po'Boy sandwich (loaded with crispy battered shrimp, topped off with tartar sauce and lettuce shreds). BF had the Jambalaya (he ate every grain of rice - it was so tasty) . We washed it all down with pale ales. Boy, both dishes were so flavorful and done just right. There wasn't any room for improvement! Been to New Orleans and I believe my Po'Boy here was better than there :-0

The service was friendly and attentive. The ambiance was relaxed, warm, and charming.

I'm so torn here - I think this is more of a 3 1/2 for me, but I just can't go the four stars.

I am a huge fan of Cajun and Creole cuisine.  Sadly, good C&C is hard to find in the Bay Area.  We were in the area last weekend so we stopped here for a late lunch.  There's not much of a difference between the lunch and dinner menu here (which makes me sad - I'd prefer smaller portions and smaller prices for lunch!).

I had the crawfish etouffee, with a small green salad instead of the green beans.  The flavor was spot-on and the sauce was creamy and good.  A bit of heat.  Perfect rice.  I have not had such a good etouffee in a long damn time.

My husband had the shrimp po'boy with a side of gumbo (for $2.50 more).  The shrimp were tasty - not too greasy.  The bread was fine.  The sauces overwhelmed though. The gumbo was very smokey - I'm guessing an extremely dark roux was going on in here.  It had a lot of heat, too.  I'm glad I didn't order a bowl of it for my meal.  I also didn't get a single piece of shrimp in it.  Fooey.

The etouffee was good, but the gumbo didn't hit it for me and the po'boy was just okay.  Portions, given the prices, were just okay as well.  I had such high hopes for this place, but again - just okay.  I'd definitely get the etouffee again, but maybe the jambalaya or shrimp creole would knock this up a star.

I've been to NOLA and have had the the real deal ... and Angeline's is the closest thing to the real deal in the East Bay.

Angeline's draws students and other Berkeley residents alike. The hush puppies come with honey butter. The etouffe may look like a small portion, but it is definitely BIG on flavor. The jambolaya is a huge portion and a little more sweet and tomatoe-y and less spicy.

The host is totally on-top-off! He was constantly checking in with the customers waiting and giving us a wait time update. We waited 30-minutes on a busy Friday night ... but then again, also saw people come in after us who waited 0 minutes. It's about timing, I guess.

If you're looking for a solid dirty south meal, you've come to the right place. They've got all the popular fixings to satisfy any craving: fried chicken, hush puppies, jambalaya, sweet tea, etc. The meals come in decent portions and are filled with that fried salty flavor that seems to coat all southern food. The sweet tea is decent, but I would rate it a little beneath McDonalds...but what do I know about sweet tea? (as much as steak tar tar...nada)

I've ordered the jambalaya dish a couple times and found myself satisfied upon completion of the meal. The hush puppies were good, but nothing to die for I thought. The ambiance definitely gives that busy bar vibe being noisy and crowded, and I always see Mr. Angeline himself walking around ensuring good service.

There is a bit of a wait during peak hours, so be prepared to wait. I believe they do take reservations, but I remember people waiting even with that. If you're down from a tough day at work, or need a pick-up from Berzerkeley life, Angeline's southern hospitality will surely be a good pick-me-up.

I was literally running around all day....Disneyland Half Marathon and then back to the airport to fly back and catch the John Legend concert in Berkeley.  I found Angeline's on Yelp and after seeing fried chicken on the  menu, I was sold!

We arrived around 5:15 and it was already busy.  There was no wait yet, so our party of 4 was able to be seated right away.  I think the guy who sat us could have been the owner.  He was very friendly and gave us a rundown of the menu.  He told us what the popular dishes were and what was good to be shared.

My friend and I decided to split two dishes.  We went with the Jambalaya( http://static.px.yelp.... ) and the Buttermilk Fried Chicken( http://static.px.yelp.... ).  We also ordered the Baked Mac & Cheese( http://static.px.yelp.... ) for the whole table to share.

I loved the fried chicken.  It was so tender and juicy and the gravy had such great flavor.  The jambalaya was delicious!  It had just the right amount of spice.  The andouille sausage had its own spice, so it gave the jambalaya an extra kick, but I was still able to eat it.  The mac & cheese was MmmMmM  MmmMMm  GOOD!  I liked the baked, cheesy crust.  I was too anxious to eat it and ended burning my tongue...owie!

After all that food, I was really full, but I just had to try the beignets( http://static.px.yelp.... ).  I've never had one before and I saw other tables order it, and it looked so good.  One order had four beignets which was perfect for us to share.  I took my first bite and it was yummy.  The dough was light and fluffy.  It reminded me of a fluffy donut.

The food and service were great.  I will definitely be back because they have so many yummy things on the menu to try!

Delicious food! Unique beers! And great service!

I've had this place bookmarked for awhile and I finally got a chance to eat here after the Cal game on Saturday (ps. Cal Football, you're dead to me now). The line was literally out the door with fans looking to get their grub on after the game, but It only took about 15 minutes to get our party of four seated.

The only other 'real' cajun food I've had in the bay area has been at Yat's in the city. Yat's is more hole-in-the-wall with food served in paper plates with plastic utensils. Angeline's is a much nicer place, but that doesn't necessarily translate into tastier food, so I was curious to see how Angeline's would be.

Things I loved: the Jambalya (tons of flavor, lots of andouille sausages), Oysters Bordelaise (fried oysters that weren't over cooked), Mac & Cheese, and the Bananas Foster Bread Pudding for dessert.

There was nothing I didn't like but there were a few things I thought were just okay: the Fried Catfish, the Fried Chicken (I second the reviewer who was underwhelmed by the fast-food-like chicken strips that came out. it would've been better with actual bone-in pieces), and the beignets (but I might have just been tired of all the fried foods we had eaten by this point).

I was a big fan of the Abita Purple Haze, a Louisiana-native beer that tasted a like raspberries.

Again, the service here is fantastic and the dishes are easily shared if you're going here for the first time with a group of friends. A lot of the foods are fried and heavy so remember to balance the meal with some veggies!

I loved this place! Definatly going back next time I am in Berkeley.
My friend and I ordered two dishes - The Jambalya and the VooDoo Shrimp - expecting to "share," but when we got our food we each loved our dish so much that we didn't even swap a bite.

My VooDoo shrimp were absolutely delicious (and I love that the prawns were already de-tailed)

My friend said that her Jambalya was awesome and offered the perfect amount of "kick" Not too spicy, but in no way bland.

My green beans were great, but a bit on the salty side.

This restaurant is totally in my rotation now!

Went here for lunch today....we ordered the buttermilk fried chicken, fried catfish (came with hush puppies) and the beignets for dessert. The fried chicken.....hmm all I can say is OVERHYPED. They're basically just chicken strips that were nothing extraordinary, almost *gasp* KFC-ish. I was expecting so much more for 16 dollars but sadly I was a bit disappointed =/. The meat wasn't tender and the flavor just wasn't quite there yet for me. The catfish on the other hand was delicious, as were the hush puppies with the honey butter. Yummm. The beignets came out fresh and hot, and were an excellent end to the meal. We also ordered the strawberry lemonade and the sweet tea and those were good as well.

Despite the chicken let-down, overall I enjoyed my dining experience here so I'm rounding up the 3.5 to 4 stars. Next time I come here I'm going to try the jambalaya because that (along with the catfish) seemed to be the most popular dish. Going to stay away from the chicken though....seriously people, if this is really the best chicken you've ever had, you need to go explore more places.

This place rocks!! I came here on a Friday night about 7 minutes before closing time; halfway expecting to be turned away. A tall man greeted us and seated us right away. The service was excellent, even though we rolled in at closing, the waitress was nice and didn't rush us.
It was tough to decide on a dish, they had a lot that sounded good. We started with the red beans and rice (awesome) and the sausage which came out pretty quickly.I ended up getting the fried catfish and my bf got the craw fish etoufee ( I googled "etoufee" while we waited, it's a stew).
My catfish came with potato salad and hush puppies (fried cornbread) and I actually had some leftover to take home. I was reluctant to let my mom have my leftovers because it was so good!
I liked the decor of the place, candles at every table and the ceiling was partially open which was cool. Definitely a place worth visiting again.

My god this place's chicken was amazing.  The gumbo was a little spicy so if you can't handle reallllllly spicy then ask them to go easy on it, although that is the way it's supposed to be.  I believe that they have the best fried chicken ever.  Juicy and just the right crispyness.  A lil pricy but it's worth it.  Good beer too and very friendly staff.

So, I've been wanting to go to this place EVER SINCE I started as an undergrad at Berkeley, and... now it's been two years, and I FINALLY was able to go, for a friend's going away party!

We ordered a number of scrumptious appetizers, the Fried Cheese Grits (w/Crawfish) and the Hushpuppies, which were both SO good.

However, when it came to the actual meal, I REALLY had a hard time deciding between the crawfish plate and the jambalaya... and asked the waiter for his advice, so he told me to get the crawfish because it's just "AMAZING." So, that's what I did... BUT.

Just for me, the meal (served as this creamy mush with rice and greenbeans), just had TOO much crawfish in it, and I soon just got tired of the taste, it was a bit boring. [It definitely tasted better in better portions AND with the cheese grits, which is one of the appetizers].

So, next time, I'm DEFINITELY getting what my friends got: the gumbo and the fried chicken.

Might as well get the trademark Louisiana/Cajun foods, right?

Another con: a bit pricey for a poor undergrad like me..
Good news: 1/2 off red wines on Monday+Tuesday nights!

A-OK because I personally am not a big fan of southern food or spicy food - and 99% of their food was souther and spicy. But the service and atmosphere was great. I also tried this dish called Jambalaya (?), which tasted kind of like Chinese fried rice, but softer, mushier, and spicer. But pretty good.

I finally "discovered" this restaurant thanks to a friend who lives in the East Bay.  Oyster Po Boy - Wow!  I need to pile a bit more money on BART ticket now that I'm hooked.

a solid 3.5 starts. doesnt beat REAL new orleans cookin. definitely not as flavorful.

got the ribs. some of the meat was really tender; other parts were really tough (should have cooked it longer). the jumbalaya was tasty but not great. our server was a little spacey and kept forgetting stuff. (we got our bottle of wine after the appetizers came. um, weird.)

but i dig the place. its nice and cozey. and i would come back to try the other items.

Went here last night and was really impressed.

First off - parking is tough - we went on a Wed. night and had to drive around for a bit before finding parking (allow a bit of time for this if you're meeting someone).  You might WANT to park far away so you have a chance to walk all that food off after dinner though ;)

The place was semi-crowded but got sat right away (was just me and my gf).  The service was friendly and attentive - a guy was running around who looked like the owner checking on tables and helping out which I thought was cool.

The food was spectacular.  We started with the hush puppies, which were actually really good (not sure if I would like them or not at first).  The honey butter was perfect for them.  It was my first time so I had to order the fried chicken - the sweet potatoes were AWESOME.  I could of ate a whole bowl.  The chicken was really good and the gravy really made it stand out.  My gf had the PoBoy which was also very good - not quite as memorable as the chicken, but still very good.  Topped it off with some beneigts which were hot and delicious.

We both had appetizers, dinner, beer, and dessert for around $60 with tip - I feel it was very reasonable for what we got.  Will definitely be back here with friends and family.

I am on the board of Crazy for N'Awlins. We meet Tuesdays and pretend it's Mardi Gras, strip down for multicolored beads and pretend that the kitchen counter is a walk-up daquiri bar. Get just drunk enough to not feel stupid and not remember all of what happened. Wednesdays make for interesting times...

I always am jonesing to head back, but why the hell trip to dirty, grimey Bourbon St when you can go to Angeline's and get better cajun food? Why? I am now a fan of Angeline, N'Awlins, you officially take a back seat.
Hunker down and I'll school you 'bout her prowess.

Indecisiveness runs rampant in my veins, so it was nothing new that I sat down and read the menu once, twice, downloaded it, read it again. Read it some more. Looked at the pictures. Drooled. Printed them out. Slept with them under my pillow.
Ok, I didn't go THAT far.
I put them on the pillow beside mine.

I decided I wanted dinner of side dishes. House salad. Sweet potato mash. Mac & cheese, brussels sprouts and hush puppies. Was the finest desision of my life.
House salad is simple mixed greens light vinagrette with golden and regular raisins, grape tomatoes and candied pecans. Tip of the day; don't eat all those pecans with the salad. Use them as a spoon for the mash.

Sweet Potato Mash. Features it's beautiful orange self, along with ginger and vanilla. Not to be missed.

Mac & Cheese. Nothing bland here. Full flavor, cheesy, gooey with crispy breadcrumb topping, this is good stuff my friend.

Hushpuppies. Cornmeal in its finest form, chives inside, honeybutter for dipping. Eat.

Browned Butter Brussels. I LOVE these. I mean LOVE. Not puppy love. Not a crush. True, unadulterated love.

The staff is attentive and treat you like family. They can't wait to see you again, they like what you ordered and your shoes? Too freaking cute. We were asked to switch tables at the end of our meal, which was fine with us - but they went so far as to offer up free dessert for our "inconvenience." Well, hell yes.

Strawberry Shortcake. Light, lemony biscuit with strawberry slices oozing all over, sweetened whipped cream and a smile the size of Texas is suddenly on your face.

I may just have to put a stop to the sad Tuesday parties. Those beads are getting worn out...
There's no reason to go to N'Awlins. Unless Angeline gets tired of me camping out around her storefront like a junkie itching for a fix...

I was pleasantly surprised by the food here.

We had quite a few things:

Fried Chicken with mashed potatoes...delish!
Fried Catfish and hushpupies....catfish was very moist & tasty. The hushpuppies were extremely flavorful though a bit on the dry side.  Potato salad was awesome.
Mac & cheese was good but i prefer Roscoe's which is more congealed and clumpy (sorry, that's how like my mac & cheese).

The desserts! I almost passed out while eating them.  We had the beignets which were crisp on the outside & moist & airy inside.  They were perfect.
We also had the bread pudding which was creamy and oh-so-sinful.

Definitely got diabetes while eating there.

Pros: Food and friendly staff
Cons: wait time to be seated & to get food.

How does the saying go? "Eat, drink, and be merry?" Let's adapt that, shall we?

"Eat hush puppies with honey butter, and be merry."

"Eat cajun catfish and buttermilk fried chicken, and be merry."

"Eat, and drink bottles of red wine for 1/2 price [certain nights], and be merry."

"Eat beignets buried in powdered sugar plus amazingly rich chocolate mousse, and be very merry."

In sum:

"Eat and drink at Angeline's, and be merry."

I went here with a friend from out of town and was considerably disappointed after having read some rave yelp reviews...
Besides the bread pudding, which was excellent, our food was just so-so. The meat was on the dry side and our meals were under-seasoned.
The location of this restaurant isn't so nice; it's right near the Downtown Berkeley BART station, and as anyone who's ever walked around there knows, it's not exactly the cleanest, sweetest-smelling area. The most - how shall I put this - 'interesting' part of our visit to Angeline's: a disheveled gentleman of the streets reeking of stale cigarettes, alcohol and urine wandered inside RIGHT IN FRONT OF THE OWNER, stumbled to our table, sat down and started yelling profanities... After much prodding, I finally managed to convince him to leave. The owner? Completely oblivious to the entire scene. I can laugh about it now, but it was embarrassing at the time. I'm in no hurry to go back.

Fantastic Creole with some tasty dishes, high quality ingredients, and very reasonable prices.  I've been there a couple times so far and would go again anytime.  Here are the pros and cons I've seen so far:

Pros:
Hush Puppies
Buttermilk Fried Chicken
Shrimp Creole (best dish I've had)
Blue Lake Green Beans (I've been trying to copy their recipe at home since eating this)
The atmosphere and decor
Location is awesome (a block away from BART)

Cons:
The Shrimp Po Boy was just ehh for me
The service staff has been inconsistent

Overall:
Definitely recommended.  With the variety of high-quality dishes, I'd recommend coming a couple times and sharing different dishes with your company.

Nothing was terribly wrong with Angeline's, it was just okay. My dining pals and I got there at 6pm on a Sunday night and we were able to get a table without a reservation. It was really hot that day and this place doesn't have AC. Good thing the sun was going down...

I had to order the Buttermilk Fried Chicken because that's been my latest obsession. It's BONELESS (be warned if you like bones!) and served with sweet potato mash and green beans. First, the chicken meat was not as tender as I had hoped. The fried skin is supposed to be the most delicious thing on the plate but it wasn't. How disappointing. I ate it but I wasn't excited.

I usually love anything sweet potato. I can and have, on several occasions, microwaved a whole sweet potato and just eat it without anything else. I just love it! But the mash here somehow managed to disappoint me. It's supposed to be flavored with ginger and vanilla but all I tasted was ginger. It definitely overwhelmed the sweetness that was supposed to be present. The green beans were actually my favorite part of the meal. It was cooked just right and had a sprinkle of parmesan. But in the end, green beans are just green beans. =/

We did order some beignets for dessert and that was their saving grace. The last time I had beignets was at a New Orleans style restaurant in Downtown Disney. I was not impressed but I guess that's what I get right? The beignets here were so fluffy, soft, and delicious! It really was like eating a fried pastry pillow with the nice coolness of the powdered sugar.

Conclusion: Skip dinner, eat dessert!

Thanks Mikey - this was awesome!

Wow, this is the best Creole food I've had!

The best Mac & Cheese. The best jambalaya. Crawfish Etouffee was the bomb, sooo much crawfish. Fried chicken was interesting being boneless breasts, I normally don't even like breasts, but these were amazing!
Strawberry shortcake wasn't the best I've had, but it was definitely yummy and hit the spot.

This is the first creole restaurant that I love and can't wait to go back!
