4 reviews for Angelina's Restaurant
Another local fav- with excellent crab cakes. Located in a converted row home, it was originally an Italian restaurant that was eventually bought out by a local couple. This is why you can find an interesting combination of Italian dished with traditional Baltimore seafood.
Their crab cakes are made from lump crab with almost no filler, these cakes are light and flavorful without the heavy breading or greasy taste characteristic of lesser imitations- get it broiled!! I did think that they added a touch too much parsley, but it was still yummy. You get 2 sides with the entree and they were good as well. The stuffed salmon is to die for as well and the wait staff is "local" and friendly. A side note for those who actually read my reviews- I liked their crab cakes, but G&M is still tops. We had the place almost to ourselves and that was a DEFINITE bonus over the usual crazy G&M. Dinner was much more intimate and we enjoyed ourselves immensely.
There is a bar downstairs that often has karaoke nights, but even though it is now non smoking, the smell of cigs still looms large.
Update...... This restaurant is now closed. My lady friend and I were going there Saturday. We arrived, parked and walked up to a darkened space with the big ugly "sign o' the times" in the window. The place is for sale now and they seem to be offering their "famous" crab cake recipe to the next owner. That should work out of course unless the next owner tries to do the Hamilton end of Harford Ave model of high end niche foods. Perhaps a Baltimore/ Cajun/ Thai fusion...
Blackened crabcake in peanut sauce anyone?
The place is up for auction, Used to be awesome crab cakes, served in different sizes, you paid a hefty market price for them. Would make a nice YELP HQ for B more..
Oh boy was I looking forward to this! It's on lots of "best of" lists in Baltimore. I had never been here before -- not in all my years of being a lothario-want-to-be at Parkville High School [right around the corner on Putty Hill Avenue] and taking my dates to fine dining establishments in the vacinity after a film at a local or downtown cinema.
Well, it started out great -- they were playing Billie Holiday ["Stormy Weather"] and then B.B. King.
BUT:
After B.B. King NO MORE MUSIC AT ALL!!!
They seated me in a room alone -- and promptly seemed to forget about me. [I had to "nod" at them more than once as they passed by.]
The cole slaw [on the menu] was not available?! [This was early in the evening].
Ditto for the cheesecake -- and I was hoping to get some Baltimore CC made with ricotta!!
The french [curley] fries came from a frozen bagfull.
The crabcakes -- oh lordly -- were comparatively tasteless!!!! Now I did get them deep fried....probably I should have gotten them broiled [a la the previous reviewer]. *My* CC's are worlds better than these, and these are sold over the web?!?! Sacrebleu!!!!! Not that they were bad -- they were loaded with lump crab meat, but THEY had lost their sweetness. Woe and double woe!
There was no A.C. in the room !! Baltimroe?! Summer?! Heat?! Humidity?! Wha???? Excuse me?!!?!
The two people at the next people were wondering about their service as well.
Thank the spirits -- the wine was good, and chilled.
And the back Exit Door did remind me of the old stone house I used to live in as a kid....in Fullerton [that's in Baltimore, folks!]
Where's my wine?!
