My golfing experience in the SoCal is fairly limited, but amongst the public/municipal courses, this was one of the most beautiful, challenging, expensive, challenging, well-maintained...and did i say challenging courses i've played at?
As mentioned by other reviewers, similar to courses in Vegas I played at, this is more of a desert style course with OBs that are actually registered nature preserve areas, so if you lose your ball in those areas...you've lost them! Meaning youre not allowed to set foot in those areas, so be prepared to bring many extra balls with you. I've played on many challenging courses with frequent water obstacles, simply substitute the water with cactus brush and desert and you'll have a fun, if sometimes frustrating time really testing your ability and accuracy.
This is also one of the most well maintained public courses ive seen yet. Ive never seen fairways and greens that were so immaculate, and you'll realize why because there are at least a couple greenskeepers on everyhole who are doing work if ppl are not playing thru. Plus they make excellent ball spotters when you can't figure out where your shot landed.
twilight greens fees start in the $90s and regular daytime fees go well into $100 so be warned and dont bring your budget-limited friends.
This is a beautifull couse. Now that they have built a new club house, they have jacked up the prices. $170 weekends and $90 weekdays. For that kind of a price, one would expect that it would be a top notch experience. The guys in the pro shop are great and so are the starters. However I have no idea why they have no cart service on weekdays nor why you can't find a bottle of water to purchase anywhere on the grounds untill 10:00 am when the snack shop opens. Yes, I am not kidding, not in the pro shop, not in the restaurant upstairs, no where.... At the turn we were thirsty and tried to get some bottles of water and gatorade for the back nine.. NOPE, not gonna happen. Come on guys use your brains, the guys that t off at 7 are almost done before the snack shop opens up. They go around the turn at 9.

It's a great, great course to play. Definitely the best in Los Angeles County. Currently going under construction of the clubhouse, A.N. has 19 playable courses without any houses or apartments lining the fairway.
It's a Nicklaus design so that means, it's a hard course. I think it has a slope rating over 140 from the black tees. I shoot in the 70's and I moved up to the blues because playing from the black was not going to be fun. There's plenty of tees for all ranges of skill.
Difficulty: Long par fours, a lot of forced carries over ravines, barrancas and water. There's huge waste areas that, of course, one cannot venture into. So bring plenty of golf balls. The layout and the routing of the course is very interesting if not puzzling at times. And they have some really nice bridges built there that make the loudest noise when you drive over them on your golf cart.
They have a great teaching staff here as well as a great range and practice areas (greens, putting, chipping). It also an awesome place to hold a tournament. So go out play the course because it is one of the most gorgeous ones in L.A. I think it will hold a Tour event one day.

What a beautiful course. Came at twilight and finished with enough light to still play another hole or two. Great customer services. Upon walking toward clubhouse, was greeted and bag taken. Was carted to the first hole and had my bag placed in the cart and told the local course rules for drops. Course is in great shape and it is a great time to play it. Lots of opportunities to lose balls in ESA's here. Pace of play was great, no more than a couple minutes waiting on a few holes.
Well maintained course (tee boxes, fairways, and greens). A LOT of OB's, however, so bring plenty of balls. (But you may even out with the amount of balls you pick up out of the OB's.)
When the construction of the new clubhouse is complete this course should be even better.
$50 twilight is the way we play here. ;)
Angeles National is the only Jack Nicklaus Design golf course in L.A. County and I think it costs more just for that reason alone. This is a great golf course with some of the best maintained greens in the area. I would have given the place five stars if not for three things.
1. $110 green fees is too much money for this course. I think it is worth more in the $70 to $80 range since the quality of the golf is comparable to Lost Canyons, Coyote Hills and Rustic Canyon which offer special rates and discounts more regularly.
2. The clubhouse is still a long ways away from completion and cramming a pro shop and a restaurant into a triple-wide trailer or maybe two of them nailed together does not cut it.
3. Pin placements. When you have greens that are as big as football fields, it is not necessary to tuck the pin into the side of a significant downslope in the back corner of a three-tiered green and only a couple feet from the fringe. Four putts should not be a possibility for sub-20 handicappers.
The course is a beautiful and challenging layout, especially when the wind starts blowing. Practice facilities are nice and the service is quite friendly. I read several complaints about their marshall's being too pushy but the ones we ran into were very friendly and actually helped us out with our ball location, shot selection and other course tips several times. Overall it is a great golf experience if you are willing to make the drive and pay the fees.
I played here several times since it opened. This is a desert style course with some narrow landing areas and brutal, prevalent OB's. Bring plenty of balls if you are not an accurate hitter ! Outstanding customer service, and an outstanding grass driving range. You WILL use every club in your bag on this course, so bring all 14 with you ! The green fee on the weekend is a bit high, but it is worth every penny. Give ANGC a try, you won't regret it !
