ReAlly nice course just a little out of my wheel house. This place is super narrow so I lost more balls then I care to mention. The good thing was that I seemed not to be alone in my endeavors considering the fact that every time I lost a ball I would find one or two nicer ones. I found a couple pro V ' s and burner penta.

AMENITIES- seriously, we hit the button on the GPS to call the cart girl over for a beer and she was there in less then 1 min.  My foursome was amazed how efficient she was thinking it was just a one time thing, but the next two times she was there instantly.

when you check in they offer a great kobe burger for $14.95

Only public Nicklaus course in Los Angeles County. The course has always been in great shape when I have played it. The greens are undulating, very good and very difficult to read for some reason. I think that is because it is so close to the mountains. The staff has always been very friendly and it is a course that I enjoy a lot when I feel I have a few extra dollars to spend to play an excellent golf course that has always been in very good shape when I have played it since it first opened.

I would give Pebble Beach and Pinehurst 5 stars so I will be harsh and give this facility 4 stars. Wish there was 4 and 1/2 or an option for 9 out of 10.

A bit of a drive for me, but on my list of courses to at least play once a year.

This would be a 5-star review if it weren't for the marshall that came out to us on the end of the 10th and asked us to speed up our pace of play.  The foursome in front of us stopped for lunch at the clubhouse.  We played through.  Even after explaining this to him, he still looked at us and stated, "Pick it up anyways."  We were on pace and there was no crowding due to us.

As for the rest, well the place is really nice.  I wish I was able to sit up top and view friends finish the 18th while having a beer, but their was an event taking place.

Sharil and the rest of the staff were great and helpful.  The course was really nice.

The only complaint was the marshall not wanting to hear why we were a hole behind.

I hit the links up this way with my girl's boss a week or so ago.
    Wow, quite beautiful.
I lost more balls here then i have in a year playing at griffith park.
And the price was steep. but all in all it is a great lay out.

O, watch for the rattle snakes...

Attitude, attitude, attitude...It's a very expensive course, usually in good condition but not always and they don't tell you when the fairways are bare and the greens are not rolled out. I'm a member at Industry Hills, which sometimes has similar issues, but they tell you the truth. That being said, this golf course is not nearly as good as either of the IH courses. The shot values are not there and the course is all tricked up in typical Nicklaus fashion. Many good shots are punished, and the course is penal, not strategic...so you can lose a lot of balls. The people who run it seem to think they're God's gift to golf...far from it. Brookside #1 (just down the road) is a far better layout, tho typically not in as good shape...but just in terms of design, you'll have much more fun hitting shots that have a possibility of recovery if you don't make it. I've played this course many times since it's been open, and I probably am done with it. The last time it was over 5 hours on a weekday, and for this much money it just isn't worth it. The only thing I can say good about it is that it's a slightly better Nicklaus design than The Retreat out in Corona...

I have to admit it...  I was a little disappointed with this course after finally getting to play it yesterday.  Don't get me wrong,   It's layout is excellent.   An excellent Nicolas designed course for sure.    Lots of fun, and beautiful scenery.   BUT, the maintenance was lacking for what you pay.   I didn't think the fairways were up to snuff for what they ask in green fees.   I saw plenty of brown spots on the fairways, and they were very hard and compacted.  The greens were in good shape however.   If you expect me to pay 100-150 bucks for a round,  I expect immaculate course maintenance;   I didn't think this course's was any better than your average municipal course.     If you can get a round for under 70 bucks it may be worth it, otherwise I think your money could be better spent elsewhere.

I am updating this review, as I have changed my review from 3 to 4 stars.   my above reviews is for the course, but I have been coming back to this course more regularly as it has an excellent practice facility and service.  The driving range is excellent.   It is very long, with lots of targets and you're hitting off of grass.   It's a little far from the clubhouse, but they're willing to give you a ride on a cart if it's too far of a trek.    The balls are in excellent shape, unlike the ones you find in most of the Muni's in the LA area.    The service has always been top notch as well.   Everybody has been really nice and helpful whether I'm playing or practicing.

I'm not a great golfer but I've been playing golf for 20 years so I know a well run course and good value when I find one.   Angeles National is neither.

The course is really beautiful and is apparently Nicholas designed but the condition of the greens on Father's day were  horrible.  There's no way the course was worth almost $140 for a round when it's not in peak condition.   Management only added to my sour take on the issues with the greens.  When we finally completed our round, we all went into the clubhouse to complain about the condition of the course and the slow pace of play.

Regarding the slow pace of play....
I tee'd off around 715A which was right behind another foursome of our friends.  Experienced golfers typically expect a quick pace of play when they tee off that early in the morning.  Well, the friends in front of us quickly passed a slow foursome in front of them. We made an attempt to do the same a few holes later after we had to wait for them to clear the green or fairway on evry single shot.  As we saw our friends who tee'd off 10 minutes before us now 3 holes ahead, it was clear that this one foursome was backing up the entire course.  We were all very patient as we were there to enjoy a nice round of golf but after 5 holes of standing over your ball waiting for the group in-front of us to clear the green, we finally complained to the Marshall as we were clearly on pace for a 5+ hour round.  The Marshall told us that the slow group was told to allow us to pass them on the 6th tee but then he drove away and we never saw him again.  The group in front of us did pick up the pace a bit but we still waited on every hole usually with the group behind us catching my foursome on every tee.

When all was said and done, we finished the round in 4.5 hours which according to management was on pace.   However, the group that tee'd off minutes before us finished in 3.5 hours.  Our friends called us to tell us they were done as we were just finishing the 14th hole.    A four hole gap seems like a ridiculous gap for a course to allow one group to fall behind the group in front of them.

Again, my greatest issue with the course was that it's just not even close to being worth the price and it's definately not well managed.

Recently came here to play a complimentary birthday round (must have a paying partner, however).  Last time I was here was when the current clubhouse was still being constructed.  Didn't use any of the amenities of the clubhouse but it did look nice.

The thing that struck me the most about playing here this time was how awesome the course conditions were.  I don't play as much golf as I used to and when I do, I play at Altadena GC, which is an executive 9-hole.  The rough at Angeles is 10x better than the fairways at Altadena!!  My Hubbs and I have even played the Trump in PV and we don't remember conditions like that.  Granted, this place uses a different type of grass. But perhaps it's a consolation to the fact that this course is VERY challenging if you're not on your game.  Bring LOTS of balls just to be safe.

I coordinated a retirement luncheon here and it was not only affordable, it was perfect. Carrie really knows how to coordinate an event. The staff are very friendly and considerate. When I saw something had to be done, I found it was attended to before I could put my napkin down and get up from the table. We had a sit-down meal for 60 people. The food was delicious and the presentation was lovely. The video that was shown was perfectly lit despite the windows and daytime lighting.

Above all, the view is gorgeous, you don't need to be a golfer to appriciate the beauty of this location. I highly recommend day time events, and I hope to visit for an evening event in the near future.

    Thank you, Carrie!

    Just reviewing the bar...

We were invited to an event at the bar/banquet space on Sunday night.  We got there a bit early and ordered a glass of Stella for me and Bailey coffee for my wife.

As any other bar, my Stella came in Stella's own glass, but chipped off at the bottom.  These are freely and readily provided by Budweiser and there is really no excuse to serve in a chipped glass.

Bailey coffee had too little of Bailey in it.  But fine.  It happens.  It also had cold whipped cream on top and that can happen too.  We asked the staff to remove the whipped cream and heat it up a bit more since it was barely lukewarm.

Few minutes later, staff brought  the same glass with drip stains, no napkins and a bit of bad attitude.

This is supposed to be a rather "higher-end" country-club club-house bar.  Couldn't they at least wipe the glass after whipped cream is removed?  And maybe fill it up with either coffee or Bailey to look a bit nicer?  I guess they couldn't or they wouldn't..

Event was mediocre.  But I am just reviewing the bar..

It's a great, great course to play. Definitely the best in Los Angeles County. Currently going under construction of the clubhouse, A.N. has 19 playable courses without any houses or apartments lining the fairway.

It's a Nicklaus design so that means, it's a hard course. I think it has a slope rating over 140 from the black tees. I shoot in the 70's and I moved up to the blues because playing from the black was not going to be fun. There's plenty of tees for all ranges of skill.

Difficulty: Long par fours, a lot of forced carries over ravines, barrancas and water. There's huge waste areas that, of course, one cannot venture into. So bring plenty of golf balls. The layout and the routing of the course is very interesting if not puzzling at times. And they have some really nice bridges built there that make the loudest noise when you drive over them on your golf cart.

They have a great teaching staff here as well as a great range and practice areas (greens, putting, chipping). It also an awesome place to hold a tournament.  So go out play the course because it is one of the most gorgeous ones in L.A. I think it will hold a Tour event one day.

Angeles National is the only Jack Nicklaus Design golf course in L.A. County and I think it costs more just for that reason alone. This is a great golf course with some of the best maintained greens in the area. I would have given the place five stars if not for three things.

    1. $110 green fees is too much money for this course. I think it is worth more in the $70 to $80 range since the quality of the golf is comparable to Lost Canyons, Coyote Hills and Rustic Canyon which offer special rates and discounts more regularly.
    2. The clubhouse is still a long ways away from completion and cramming a pro shop and a restaurant into a triple-wide trailer or maybe two of them nailed together does not cut it.
    3. Pin placements. When you have greens that are as big as football fields, it is not necessary to tuck the pin into the side of a significant downslope in the back corner of a three-tiered green and only a couple feet from the fringe. Four putts should not be a possibility for sub-20 handicappers.

The course is a beautiful and challenging layout, especially when the wind starts blowing. Practice facilities are nice and the service is quite friendly. I read several complaints about their marshall's being too pushy but the ones we ran into were very friendly and actually helped us out with our ball location, shot selection and other course tips several times. Overall it is a great golf experience if you are willing to make the drive and pay the fees.

My golfing experience in the SoCal is fairly limited, but amongst the public/municipal courses, this was one of the most beautiful, challenging, expensive, challenging, well-maintained...and did i say challenging courses i've played at?

As mentioned by other reviewers, similar to courses in Vegas I played at, this is more of a desert style course with OBs that are actually registered nature preserve areas, so if you lose your ball in those areas...you've lost them!  Meaning youre not allowed to set foot in those areas, so be prepared to bring many extra balls with you.  I've played on many challenging courses with frequent water obstacles, simply substitute the water with cactus brush and desert and you'll have a fun, if sometimes frustrating time really testing your ability and accuracy.

This is also one of the most well maintained public courses ive seen yet.  Ive never seen fairways and greens that were so immaculate, and you'll realize why because there are at least a couple greenskeepers on everyhole who are doing work if ppl are not playing thru.  Plus they make excellent ball spotters when you can't figure out where your shot landed.

twilight greens fees start in the $90s and regular daytime fees go well into $100 so be warned and dont bring your budget-limited friends.

This review is not about the golf course, but more about their dining and banquet facilities.

We were thinking about using their restaurant for our rehearsal dinner. So I called up the banquet manager, Carrie, to ask about their pricing. She sent me a word document that was 150 pages long with their banquet menu, which was honestly unintelligible. So I called her to clarify and ask some questions, and she was helpful. She suggested we try out the food at the restaurant, since it would be "the same caliber as what we serve for dinner".

So we stopped by for lunch one day, just to try the food. We were going to have lunch with my brother and pay for our meal. Since we were there already, we asked to talk to the catering manger, if she happened to be around. We sat down and the waiter give us  the wrong menus (sunday brunch, not their regular lunch menu for weekdays). We had to go up to exchange these menus ourselves since we didn't see our waiter again for a while.

At first glance, their menu doesn't have any of the same dishes that they placed on the banquet menu. We had hoped to taste something similar, but unfortunately their lunch menus consisted of burgers, sandwiches, and pasta. However, they  did have a seared ahi tuna appitizer. I tried to order that, but--they didn't have ahi tuna. So we had a shrimp quesadilla instead. I could have made a better quesadilla at home.

For lunch, we tried to order on off their weekly specials menu. My fiance ordered the tri tip and I asked for a Sonoma Chicken salad. After 10 minutes, we were told that we AGAIN had the wrong menu and shouldn't have had the sheet of specials in our menu. So we settled on Spagetti, which definitely was not what we were hoping to try out. At this point, we had already decided this was not the place for us.

To add insult  to injury, the catering manager finally came around. She raved about how good the Sonoma Chicken salad was, and claimed that all their banquet food was great. I pointed out that we were here to try the food, and that she had implied that the same food would be on the menu, which is certainly wasn't. We asked if we could do a tasting before putting a deposit down, and she said: "Well, we can't do that since then everyone off the street would be coming in for free food". We just can't have that!" Acting as if we were asking for FREE FOOD and trying to scam them. I can pay for my own meal, and certainly won't be taking our nearest and dearest to eat here.

when the food finally came, it was overcooked noodles and a salad with lots of "fluff". It was made to look bigger with Romaine and Iceberg lettuce, which was just bland. The burger my brother ordered was pretty decent....

So basically: the catering manager seems to know very little about how to get clients booked but seems to know a lot about how to insult people. Plus, even I can make a salad better than their kitchen.

What a beautiful course. Came at twilight and finished with enough light to still play another hole or two. Great customer services. Upon walking toward clubhouse, was greeted and bag taken. Was carted to the first hole and had my bag placed in the cart and told the local course rules for drops. Course is in great shape and it is a great time to play it. Lots of opportunities to lose balls in ESA's here. Pace of play was great, no more than a couple minutes waiting on a few holes.

My husband and I enjoy spending time on the patio for drinks and taking in the gorgeous view. The staff is wonderful, it's a shame if they are not being treated well, because they really go the extra mile to make you feel welcomed. We attended a dinner with music in November that had a great menu that included a fabulous soft crab salad. Weeknights they have a decent happy hour menu, Sunday brunch is available, but I prefer their steak and eggs. If you are looking for a great place to relax, enjoy beautiful surroundings,  a light menu with a libation or two, you should give it visit. The staff will appreciate the business, and you can always tip generously to offset the management.

I played here several times since it opened. This is a desert style course with some narrow landing areas and brutal, prevalent OB's.  Bring plenty of balls if you are not an accurate hitter ! Outstanding customer service, and an outstanding grass driving range. You WILL use every club in your bag on this course, so bring all 14 with you ! The green fee on the weekend is a bit high, but it is worth every penny. Give ANGC a try, you won't regret it !

Very challenging Nicklaus designed track carved through rough canyon wash terrain.  All 18 holes are forced carries from tee to fairway or green with impeccably maintained fairways and large, contoured, very fast tournament difficulty bentgrass greens.  Holes rarely adjoin one another and there are limited grassy "safe" zones for errant shots.  The course is surrounded by desert wilderness preserve (natural habitat) that is very unfriendly rock and cactus (and frankly not attractively groomed as are many other desert resort courses of this stature).  Course rules prevent golfers from entering there and most of these areas are played as lateral hazards, some as OB.  Single digit handicappers who appreciate a challenging, manicured course will love it, but many others will find it frustrating and should plan to lose a lot of golf balls.  The facility is marketed as a resort experience with attentive service from the staff, i.e attendant bag check in, carts with GPS included, etc (although range balls are extra).  High green fees make the course prohibitive for most golfers to be able to play frequently. The lack of a clubhouse also has made this hard to swallow, but the new Spanish motif facility looks beautiful and is scheduled to open May 1st.  With the completed facilities it is poised to become a really nice venue for players with deep pockets, although it's really overpriced for most players living in the immediate community.
