This isn't going to be the most detailed of reviews... quick, simple, and to the point.
They have the best meatball sub I've found since moving to Belmont. -
Review from Vivian C.
This is a small spot located beside the Studio Cinema Belmont. It is a counter offering freshly made sandwiches to order and gelato in those cutsey cups with those spade-like spoons.
My sandwich was ready for me before I had the chance to finish freshening up in their large unisex bathroom. The chicken & eggplant parm on a braided roll (the skinny pete) $7.50 was tasty, and more than enough for my appetite with the smaller half saved for later. For a larger sandwich, it would just be an extra $1.
Ariana was cheery and the willing hostess of an off the cuff gelato tasting party - freely offering her opinions and wielding tastings of gelato.
3.5 stars - 3 for the sandwich and the extra plus 1/2 star for Ariana. -

During a recent work orientation, I was trying to avoid hospital cafeteria food and kill an hour in Belmont. As such, I was inspired to hop on Yelp and vet lunch options. Intending to look for good sandwich reviews I stopped in my tracks when the word 'gelato' popped up, I was sold. One of my other orientation mates who was equally tired of filling out Human Resources paperwork joined me at Angelato.
I had the pesto formaggio panini, he had a Turkey club. My sandwich was good but my socks stayed firmly planted on my feet (Or would have if I wore socks with sandals, as some are wont to do...who am I to judge). Decent pesto & mozzarella, fresh bread. My new pal said that his Turkey club "did the trick". There were also a host of other cold & hot sandwiches, paninis and salads on the menu. Relatively basic but decent lunch alternative to what seems to be mostly pizza places along Trapelo Street.
But really, I went there on a mission to eat gelato so eat gelato I did. I originally was hoping for strawberry but was told by one of the very nice guys working the counter that it wasn't one of their current offerings. Apparently all their gelato is made fresh/locally by the Firenze Gelato Co., and they alternate frequently. I'm kind of shy around new people, but with gelato on the line I was ready to forget propriety and blithely ignore the horrified look of my lunch buddy by spending an awkward amount of time taste testing no less than 9 of Angelato's delicious flavors (and really, probably more). Standouts: Mint Chocolate Chip, Tiramisu, Lavender (who would have thunk), Raspberry Cheesecake, and Dulce de Leche. The very fact that they allowed me to engage in this mini-spoon marathon testing makes this place awesome. I settled with the 2 scoops of the Cookies'n'Cream, and aforementioned horrified/impressed lunch friend got a Mint Chocolate Chip Frappallato (Frappe+gelato, get it?) They were both great and I'm already thinking I'm going to go for Italian Caramel next time. I would say 3 stars for food, 5 stars for gelato. -

Really great sandwiches!!!!!
Great gelato!
A little drafty in the winter.
Very good service.
Most of their sandwiches are meat. They are, according to my sweetie, excellent. I have only tried a few sandwiches--because they only HAVE a few vegetarian options. Those options are, however, so delicious that I don't even much care that there aren't many of them. -

Gelato! Yum! Really good and authentic.
Waverly Square is a little weird location for such an upscale shop, but I have to say I'm happy they are there.
The fellows who opened it are local (went to school with my sister), and it's heartwarming that they've made a go of the place. Their family ran an Italian Food Shop, as I remember. Is that still there? -

Angelato is an upscale "gelateria" located next to the Belmont Movie Theater on Trapelo Rd between Cushing Square and Waverly Square.
I live right around the corner, but I just got around to trying it out this weekend. This place was recommended to me by several of my neighbors for their sandwiches and gelato ice cream. They use Boar's Head premium meats here for their wide selection of chicken, turkey and roast beef offerings. I tried the black pastrami and one of the roast beef subs, and they were really good. You could tell the meat was awesome. The default fluffy bread was decent, but next time I think I'll go with a panini or something else instead. They do challah and all kinds of fresh-baked variety here.
I also ordered one of their impossibly cheap 12" thin crust pizzas for my kids, and they totally devoured it. When they say thin, they mean thin- it was almost wafer-like in consistency, with toppings and sauce underneath a generous layer of gooey cheese. Very good.
Their homemade gelato is incredibly smooth and tasty. I had the chocolate chip coconut my first time, and it didn't disappoint. Wonderfully smooth with just the smallest ice crystals, it had a great balance of sweetness and flavors. -

Two brave employees were there tonight to deal with the crazy pregnant lady. I sure hope they thought all the food I ordered was for a family of four... Instead of just me.
Caprese sandwich = Fresh tasting (after I put salt on it to make it taste). Good amount of fresh mozzarella, small amount of tomatoes and basil. It would have been a five star sandwich if it had extra of those, or even a pesto type spread on it.
Baked Potato Soup = Hearty with nice chunks of baconish-ham in it. Came with oyster crackers.
Peach Gelato = Peachy, sweet, tasty
Pistachio Gelato = Nutty, creamy, sweet.
Also, Angelato has a small selection of Italian goods, like Nutella and Baci chocolate. So of course, I got those too.Listed in: Cottage Cheese In A Trash Bag

Review from Jeff D.
Just had gelato this time around (chocolate hazelnut) and it was very good. Started melting around the edges just from the warmth of my hand on the cup just as it should.
I think it will be even better in the summertime when the warm air guarantees that you hustle to finish up before it melts away on you.

Went for lunch the other day and got the Godfather. Prosciutto and roasted red peppers on a fresh roll. It was good, but pretty expensive. I don't know if it was worth what I paid for it.
In terms of taste, really good. -

Had a sandwich there the other day, been awhile but I always had good luck eating there. While it was OK, it wasn't like the old days... Maybe because it was quiet and there was nobody raving about the gelato it had a different vibe about it....Back to the sandwich... had an italian, the roll was good, loved the balsamic on the roll by the way.. great touch, but what I didn't particularly like was the fact that when the girl made my sandwich, the meat and cheese were already pre-portioned and stuck together, then she peeled the paper off and placed it on the roll. Not a huge deal, probably no different than pulling the meat out of a tray or something, but it just reminded me of subway or something...just didn't make me think I got a custom made sandwich... The gelato for dessert made up for it!

Woot! Bringin' class to Waverly!
I tried the Tiramisu gelato the other night and then ended up with the Lemon - not too too sweet, so I could eat the entire small cup of it without gagging on sweetness.
Speaking of sweetness, the guys who work there are, as my mother would say... "easy on the eyes..." just a side note...
I may have been a little too distracted by the clean decor of the place, how cute it was, how odd it was that they had all the seats shoved in the window at a bar, and the large tattoed man behind the gelato to notice what exactly all the Boar's Head signage was for. I will have to return when I am able to focus better.
I think the cups and spoons for gelato from here are amazingly cute. -

I try a different sandwich every time i go, and i am never disappointed. The gelato is excellent as well!
I believe they are in the process of redesigning the interior and the menu as well, as of the last time i as there (last week). I hope what they come up with is as good as what it was, if not better! -

Not too shabby a place.
Their Gelato is to die for, and their sandwiches are always tasty.
But there is a but in here.
There is a place across the street (Theos) that has good sandwiches too, and they are cheaper and larger.
Angelatos gives off more of a classy vibe, but for a cheap large proportioned decent sandwich, check across the street. -

Gellato is so delish - counter person recommended pumpkin pie (outside of my line up) and it was really good, tasted just like the pie. Have not had a bad flavor yet ...

I'm a big fan. Tasty gelato, and a nice selection of Boar's Head stuff for lunchtime. Also, great coffee and herbal teas. They have the class of Belmont Center with a down-to-earth Cushing Square vibe.
My s/o and I often walk down here at night for a sweet treat, and I recommend that you do the same. There isn't intentional outdoor seating, but there is a bench very close-by for those warm evenings!
Where'd the 5th star go? My lady would be upset if I forgot that their crappy to-go cups leaked jasmine tea all over her and left a trail down Beech Street as we walked home. But maybe now I can convince her to get a little greener and grab a reusable mug ;)
Also, there aren't any tables, just seats at a window counter. One little bistro set WOULD be nice... it might make it more of a sit-and-stay destination, rather than the mid-point of our walk. -

I love this place! I have gone there everyday this week, trying different sandwiches every time. The service is great. Friendly service is always found here.
The gelato is beyond amazing! There are always so many flavors to choose from and they are so yummy.
They also have thin crust pizzas for cheap. -

I had a Classico (Italian meats & cheeses w/ lettuce, tomato, onion, and hot pepper relish). It was pretty tasty and quite filling.
I tried the espresso and stracciatella (chocolate chip) gelatos; they were very icy. I got a cone of the chocolate, which was much creamier and more like what I remember from Florence. -

Never tried the sandwhices at ANGELATO, so i cant give an indepth review of that aspect of the place. I have had a few of their herbal tea mixtures and feasted on some gelato. The gelato is that generic stuff that comes in the FAUX aluminum container. Its not bad at all, its your everyday gelato and they do a a great job not misrepresnting it. So your expecatations arent set high prior to ordering it and you know exactly what to expect

Awesome homemade gelato and sandwich shop right next to Belmont Studio Cinema! Try the white wine gelato, it's amazing! He wholesales the yummy frozen stuff to lots of Boston restaurants and just opened this fabulous little storefront. Check it out.

Very tasty sandwiches and great gelato. They also sell all the meats and cheeses deli-style. A little bit on the pricey side, but worth it for the taste. I wish they had more tables. All they have is just a counter against the windows with stools. I came here and hung out with a friend for a while and they didn't seem to mind. I think this place is much more popular in the summertime for their tasty gelato.

Yuuuuuuuuuuum. Who goes to a place with 'gelato' in the name to eat sandwiches? Surely not me. Angelato's gelato is delicious (say it three times fast). I especially enjoy the refreshing sorbettos on hot days. My favorite is the kiwi, but it's a rare treat. I also like that you can choose more than one flavor. Stop in and cool off.

8 dollars for a turkey sandwich on wheat. I suggest going to Shaw's and buying a quarter pount of turkey and a loaf. It will be cheaper and be the same thing. The Gellato is pretty good.

If you're looking for a good sandwich, you have to go to Angelato's.
I've been very happy with every sandwich that I've had there. -

Angelato has some great gelato. If you can find it. If you aren't familiar with Belmont, you may want to consider taking a map because it can a bit tricky. They have a lot of good flavors and the service is friendly. Last time I went, I enjoyed my gelato in the nearby park and it made for a really relaxing indulgence.

I give the salads a big thumbs up. The gorgonzola cranberry salad with pine nuts is great and is only around $5. The sandwiches are OK. I've had the pastrami and caprese. The place is very clean and the staff are friendly.

We've not had the sandwiches but oh yeah, the gelato is great! If Silk Road is across the street, stop over there and grab some skewers, then swing by Angelato for a pint of gelato to bring home = a perfect summer evening dinner.

A cute little place. I walked in and couldn't tell what to order, because all the sandwiches on the board behind the counter just have their goofy names, with no explanation as to what's IN them. The lady at the register was used to this, however, as she directed me (and subsequent patrons) to the paper sandwich menus on the left. I got a turkey club sandwich. It was, all right. I ate at the counter looking out onto the street. The sandwich certainly had a lot of turkey in it, and it was REALLY filling - but it lacked something. The bacon and mayo were on the bottom of the sub roll, so it was hard to get a bite containing ALL the ingredients. I think for a club sandwich, the only way to serve it is on actual sandwich bread sliced 4 ways. It wasn't BAD, but I wished it were better. The store is colorful and cute, and they sell different cookies and gelato here. It looks to be the nicest place on the street (which is why I walked in). When I'm back in the area I'll try a diff sandwich. Cute place.

The sandwich i had here was very good. It was one of the specials that the workers make up, and it was amazing. Their regular subs are very good as well from what i have tried. Their gelato is tasty but i was surprised they didn't have coconut gelato as most places do, even though its not a very italian flavor. Most importantly their canoli's are amazing. (dessert is my favorite part of the meal) The filling was made to order, he mixed some stuff up and then put it in the shell. It was soft and creamy which was very good.Uusually when you get a canoli the filling is firm like it has been sitting in the fridge all day, not this one. I will be going back again, probably soon.

This place is good for what it is. Meat is always nice and fresh. I do wish they had more creative and original sandwiches, but oh well. Gelato is yummy. Especially the white wine flavored one that they sell in the summer.

The gelato varieties are expansive and the taste is great. The only downside is the price is pretty steep. I've heard they have great sandwiches too.
