My BF and I took the Sunset Cruise over the Labor Day weekend and had a wonderful time. We brought a picnic and a blanket, found a nice spot to hang, and watched the sunset and got romantic.
Great place for a cheap date and sweet sunsets.
Sunset Cruise
I've enjoyed their Sunset Cruise in the past. You're allowed to pack whatever you desire and carry on board for a cruise around the bay. It does get cold, as you know with the SF weather, but it can be fun with a bunch of friends. $20 per person for the 6:30pm cruise, $25 for their 8:30pm cruise.
But when looking to book, remember that they charge you right away and they do not provide any refunds or allow any date changes. I really thought they would consider a date change only 3 days after I made the reservation, but they were completely unyielding.
If you're just going to Angel Island on this, that's one thing. It's a ferry ride, and you really can't expect or rate much in terms of ferry rides unless they over-pack the boat, everyone gets simultaneously seasick, they leave everyone on the island to fend for themselves and resort to cannibalism ("a threee hour tour!") or the boat sinks.
HOWEVER, if you do the sunset cruise...
Arrive with a group of friends including one designated driver, a basket of wine, beer, munchies, sunglasses, warm fleeces, and a camera and you are set for two awesome hours of chillaxing on a smooth boatride (trust me, i'm the first person feeling ick when the water gets rough - this is smooth) while the sun sets over the Pacific. It can be a great departure and the boat staff are nice peeps.
I love angel Island. But to have very lil service (makes sense if people are not going there).
The Angel Island Ferry is quick and professional.
Plenty of space to park your bike.
Note: if you have a high-end bike, it will probably get dinged in the bike storage area. There is no security but the area is small.
$13.50 for R/T add a $1.00 to transport your bike.
Gayle, my son, and I took the 11 AM ferry over to Angel Island today and came back on the 1:20 boat. In between, Gayle and I walked the 5 miles around the perimeter road, while my son hung out at the beach and the snack bar. We all had a great time and we were pleased with the good basic (and timely) transportation that the Angel Island - Tiburon Ferry provided. Next time, Gayle and I will come out for a picnic and a closer look at the impressive restored Immigration Station area.

Quickest and most direct way to get to Angel Island.
It's just basic transportation from Tiburon to Angel Island. No special services on board and the ride is hardly long enough to justify anything more than 3 stars. The ferry is timely and reliable, but the view (which the ferry has nothing to do with) is a definite plus. :)
Still family run, they're friendly enough but it is rather expensive for a round trip per adult...but perhaps they have to pay docking fees and a percentage to the Angel Island Park for bringing people there. Good condition but don't expect huge lounge sitting areas like on the other ferries.
Many bikers and most likely school field trips or large tours will be on there with you as well...remember that!

Yes, my sweetie volunteered a fantastic Saturday where we would be spending the day in the sun hiking around Angel Island. I was totally for it since I had a bit of a hellish week and spending some relaxation time was perfect taking in nature.
Advice
1. The ferry run here is limited, so by the time we left Tiburon, it was around 1:00 and the last ferry back was at 3:30. Which left us with about two hours tops to really hike around, much to our disappointment (never mind that we both slept in anyways due to the night before ((I was up until 4:00 am, hehe))
Round trip tickets are $13.50 and the ride takes a quick ten minutes of so. We sat up at the top open deck area, taking in the sun (we were racing from a large dark cloud) and the wind (slightly chilly that afternoon)
The staff here are interesting, but pretty social and somewhat indifferent. Then again, I'd be too, if I had to deal with a bunch of cityslickers and tourists ;)

I thought it was great for what it is, it is timely, and a quick trip, and gets you to a fabulous location that otherwise i would be unable to visit!
This ferry ride was everything you'd hope for in a ferry - easy, timely, and fast. We didn't even buy tickets in advance, just showed up and bought them in line - on a gorgeous summer weekend. TIckets were $13.50 round trip and include park admission fee. Ferries go to Angel Island on the hour and leave on the 0:20.
The trip to Angel Island takes only 10 mins, I'd guess. Once you're there I recommend taking the Northridge trail up to the top of Mr. Livermore and the Sunset trail down. Amazing views of San Francisco and North Bay abound! The hike takes approx 2 hrs if you're in average shape so you can catch the ferry that leaves 2:20 after your arrival ferry but you might have to keep an eye on your watch - we barely made it!
Like some other people have already mentioned, the ride to Angel Island is short. It's a more convenient way to get there, too. Go with a group 'cause it's more fun.
My gf planned an outing for us to go to Angel Island and we had chosen to drive across the Golden Gate to Tiburon, then park and take the ferry. You pay cash as you show up at the landing/dock based on a first come basis and a round trip ticket is $13.50 and it includes park fees too. A quick 10 minute ferry ride outside in the sunny, salty ocean air w/a nice breeze is always refreshing. Nice crew and pleasant service.
Very romantic!
If you're in the Bay Area, this is one of the best ways to venture to Angel Island. The ride is short, but you get a glimpse of the of Angel Island while soaking up the sun with a breath of fresh air. For $13.50, the round trip tickets include admission to the park. The hike is relatively flat unless you venture up the vertical stairs. If you come here during Fleet Week when the Blue Angels fly, the view is spectacular. Parking is available near the grocery store on Main St. for less than $10.
This ferry is run by the McDonogh family and has a lovely charm about it, unlike the hulking Blue & Gold ferries. Half of our group was late arriving in Tiburon for a team building event so they missed the designated 10am ferry. The lady at the gate was nice enough to hold their tickets until they showed up for the 11am ferry. Happy pleasant service.
