I love Highland Square. I feel like I'm at home when I'm there - - even though I've never lived there. Angel Falls just furthers that feeling. One because it's always there and, two, because it is a very homey-feeling place.

Their coffee is pretty good, and their tea selection is robust. I had a nice Earl Grey there recently, and it was superb.

I enjoy sitting outside in the nice weather, as HS is a fun place to people-watch and just 'be' among the community. I'm knocking a star off for the inside seating/ambiance. While comfy, it is quite small. I always end up having to sit right next to someone who doesn't know how to use their inside voice. Also, the interior furnishings are a little too worn for my taste. I don't want pristine, untouched seating in a coffee house, but Angel Falls' furniture is bordering on gross. A little too lived in. Oh and it's always super hot in there!

After having a rather disgusting experience at the Angel Falls store in downtown Akron (link available below), I was a bit apprehensive about setting foot inside this store. Nonetheless, I gave this store the benefit of the doubt. After all, this is Akron's upscale Highland Square district (as upscale as Akron gets anyway, but I digress).

I ordered a mocha and a fruit danish. The danish is typical. The cup of mocha was flat and lacking in flavor. I tasted mostly milk, some hints of espresso, and next to no chocolate. THEY ARE SKIMPING ON MY MOCHA!

As far as quality of food is concerned, this place receives 2 stars. Brownie points simply because they have a nice little seating area where people can hang out, chat, read, or use laptop computers, but again I digress.

If Angel Falls had to describe itself in one sentence, it would be:

Angel Falls is a hip coffee shop in Highland Square that serves so-so coffee and is better than you.

It'sa cool looking place with a definite attitude. As long as I've lived in this area, I've never found it to be overly inviting and as a matter of fact, I've described to several people I know as a place I feel I'm not cool enough to patronize.

I grew up in this coffee shop. I used to come here all the time when I was in high school at the Elms to meet up with friends. I love that this place hasn't really changed since then. The coffee is so so and the baristas are usually kind of snobby, but I love this place anyway.

Good coffee, great pastries and quiches, but really lousy service EVERY TIME I've been there. I've lived in Highland Square for nearly 8 years and have been to Angel Falls many times. After each visit I always tell myself I should boycott because the staff is just so unpleasant. Try the Nervous Dog down the street -- lovely place with lovely people.

I want to love this place but I just cannot.

The atmosphere is excellent and the location in Highland SQ cannot be beat. You can find a cozy seat inside or sit outside and people watch. It's definitely a neighborhood coffee place that you know has many regulars.

Beyond the excellent atmosphere though there isn't much going for me. I have experienced rather bland service followed up by even blander drinks. The coffee here is just awful in my opinion and no, I don't go to Starbucks, my addiction is Nervous Dog.

First time I was there I had an iced mocha with a shot of almond. Rather bland and I didn't taste very much almond, if any. 2nd time I tried for a blended mocha with a shot and again, no flavor. Is this stuff even coffee or simply chocolate flavoring because it certainly doesn't pep me up. Also, my blended drink tasted like a disgusting milkshake.

I don't know, I'll probably try again because it's a great meeting place but maybe I'll stick with tea, I hear that's good.

As some other's have said, it's not the best coffee in town. But the part of town it's in is pretty enough, and the atmosphere is cozy. The coffee is cheap, they offer a variety of healthy food. I can come here, have some coffee, eat some yogurt, and read for as long as I feel. The employees are very friendly, and they really make me feel welcome. They clientele is easy going and friendly, at least in my experience, which is a nice change from the hectic rush of larger coffee-houses.

I would have given a five just for the locale and the atmosphere, as you feel like a section of downtown Boston has been transplanted into this little neighborhood, but as I said, the coffee is just coffee. And choosing to sit outside is a crapshoot. Nothing I dislike more than having my quiet Sunday morning disrupted by people begging for money with rehearsed sob-stories so they can "go buy coolant" or "gas cans" or whatever they think you'll by so you can help them buy crack. Yes, this is not Angel Falls fault, but it is an unfortunate reality of this location.

Do go, though. Hang out and have some relaxation time.

Angel Falls isn't the best coffee shop in the world, but it's undoubtedly the best coffee shop in Akron.

Since my girlfriend currently lives exactly one block away, I've spent many cold, snowy mornings hunkered down in Angel Falls, with a hot cup of coffee and some good reading material. This is what Angel Falls does best - it has an excellent, cozy atmosphere that's usually busy, but rarely overcrowded.

Unfortunately, I can't justify 5-stars, because the coffee leaves something to be desired. I haven't tried all of the drinks of the menu, but I have tried many, and can say that I've tasted better.

I loved this hep, relaxing, and well run coffee shop when I was in High School and would hitched rides with friends to this location 30 miles away from my small town. I loved this shop when I lived in my first Mecca, Highland Square, and I still love it now, when I fly 2,000 or so miles to sit quietly with my coffee and caramel.  Oh, the Caramels!

My favorite things are : The atmosphere, the caramels, mixing matte with whatever I feel like (chamomile, ginger, etc.) espresso, dark coffee blends, funky decadent deserts, breakfast croissants, meeting up with friends, and watching the square go by.

I always visit whenever I am in town, and am so glad this shop is still running strong, despite economic twists in the area!

Angel Falls opened shortly after I moved away from Highland Square in December of 1996.  This means that the business recently celebrated it's 10th anniversary at this location.  Kinda cool.

Angel Falls is what makes indie coffee shops awesome.  There are wood floors, squashy couches to sink into with a book, a bookshelf full of books which have been left behind and board games to play with people at the heavy, wood cafe tables.  The warm and inviting smell of fresh ground espresso beans permeates the air and big picture windows which let in lots of sunlight.

In a coffee shop like Angel Falls it is hard to imagine anything wrong with the world.  It is a haven.  A place to escape to, to meet your friends at, to slow down and watch the world going by at.

Not to mention their coffee is first rate.  There is no burnt, old tasting coffee to be had at Angel Falls - no, no - each cup is a caffeine addicts perfect drug... I could probably conquer the world if I had a constant stream of vanilla latte's from Angel Falls flowing through my veins.

They also serve food and yummy looking pastries.

I wish Angel Falls was in San Francisco.  If it was, that is where people would be able to find me.  The local coffee shop.

'Cause that's the kind of girl I am.

The one sitting in the window at the coffee shop - on her third latte of the day - watching the world go by.

Lovely coffee shop in Akron Ohio!  Hoooorrrrraaaayyyyy!  They even have french press coffee.

Decent food "with a Latin flair."  I'm still looking for the Latin flair  - it's more pure midwestern than Latin (egg salad?  Mayo?  Cranberry salad? Brazil?  I think not)  the quiche is darn good.

And, there is wireless internet, so bring your laptop and write your novel.

My husband and I stopped in this quaint coffee bar to grab a cup of joe and an iced Chai.  We are moving to Akron and wanted to check out the place since its in the neighborhood we'd like to live.
My chai was fine but my husband's coffee was burnt.  Burnt coffee isn't good, ever.  We will give it another shot when we're in town permanently.

This place really captures the spirit of Highland Square.  It's fun to sit outside and people watch.  The coffee is a bit strong for my taste but it has a large fan base.  There are smoothies here as well as sandwiches and muffins.  There is bulk coffee for sale.  There are a lot of regulars.  A must visit for Highland Square.

Great place to hang out.  The co-owners are often manning the cash register and espresso machines and always bring service with a smile.

My favorite part is the lunch menu.  Somewhere in a tiny kitchen, they whip up absolutely delicious concoctions with the freshest ingredients.  My personal favorite is the chicken salad sandwich on a home-baked artisan roll.  It's actually light but full-flavored with interesting spice.  And the accompanying green salad usually has fresh fruit and a tangy vinaigrette.  Yum!

And of course the coffee can't be beat!  If you have $10, you can still have the perfect date:  split a pot of your favorite roast in a French press to share.  Then split a piece of any of their scrumptious cheesecakes!

Great little coffee shop. Good coffee and pastries, awesome coffee bean selection. The ambiance is great, too. Lots of comfy chairs and a couple of bigger tables make this an ideal place to come and study, spend some quality time with a favorite book, or play a nice round of chess.

I can't really add anything to what people have already been raving about; putting in my three cents is about it for contribution.

This treasure of a spot earns an official "Brandon's Five Star Rating". I've said this about other places before, but for what this place attempts to be and/or hopes to accomplish, it succeeds.

I'm a cappuccino guy, generally with a cookie chaser. As has been said below, the baristas are quite a cut above average whether by process or accident. They can recommend teas and such with knowledge, and they're always nice to my stepmom, a great gal but one that can often take an extra minute figuring out what to get.

Anyway, back to the point...they make the capps dry, which is how I like them...with a little kick. The cookies and snacks have always been good in my visits.

There's a large seating area, and random books strewn about if you forget yours. As is with all good cafes, you can sit and crash for a while and not get evil glares.

It's located right on West Market, with easy street parking and/or a lot to the side of it. you can also walk to this joint fairly easily/safely if you live in a surrounding nabe.

A good jumping off point to meet your crew before heading out.

Will continue going there whenever I'm in Akron, as long as it stays in business.

Which, it shouldn't have any trouble doing.

I really do like Angel Falls.

I guess I don't have much to add...although I will say, if anyone has tried coffee here and not liked, maybe you should try something different?  I didn't actually like it on my first visit.  I had an iced mocha or some such.  Now, every time I go I get a white mocha.  Their white mochas are quite delish.  If you're into that sort of thing, I highly recommend it.

I wouldn't say the employees are rude, but they are definitely...quirky.  Just depends on the day I guess.  I've never had terrible service.

And for what it's worth, the bathrooms here are probably the cutest bathrooms I've ever seen in a coffee shop (or anywhere).  A wreath made of high heels?  Yes please.  I like the laid back atmosphere.  It's my #1 choice for coffee when I'm in Akron.

We went to Angel Falls on a Saturday night in 10/07 after eating dinner at Aladdin's Eatery (see my separate review), and *loved* it!  Half of it has a sort of "library" feel and there was a *wonderful* ambiance overall.  It's the type of place where you really want to linger (even though it's not very large) and the barristas were very friendly.  We opted for warm apple cider and delicious desserts, with many tempting choices for the latter.  The Highland Square neighborhood overall is lovely and charming.

My first visit to Angel Falls was a moment of enlightenment. Finally, a coffee shop like all those ones I had seen in larger cities was in my own backyard. It would only make sense that the best coffee shop in Akron is located in Highland Square. This place always makes me feel tall, as the ceilings are pretty low. Whenever I come home to visit the friends, this is our daytime meeting location. Support your local businesses! Oh, and tip your baristas. These people don't just push a button to pull your espresso. ;D

It's average coffee and an average atmosphere. Nothing I'd leap out of bed for or even visit on a regular basis. Of course, for a town like Akron, it really is quite a phenomenal place. If it were a woman, it'd be an Akron 10 but a Seattle 6.

I'm going to be the odd one out here. I love independent business. Especially ventures that last longer than 6 months in my hometown of Akron, Ohio where people's tastes can be fickle and their dislike for change can keep businesses from growing. Angel Falls has been around for a long time now, I remember going while still in middle school. And since then, I cannot remember a single time that I have gotten good service there. I have always been treated with disdain and sneered at by the workers, usually AFTER I have paid and tipped. This last visit home was the last straw. I am vegan and therefore don't use creamer in my coffee but use soy. After I went over to the condiment bar and realized there was nothing but half and half, I politely asked if there was soy milk available. The cashier (I refuse to refer to any of them as baristas) half turned his head, sneered at me and replied angrily, "NO". Now, I understand that it costs more for soy, blah blah blah but I would have gladly paid the $.40 for it rather than be treated that way. They advertise "Try our organic soy lattes" right there over the counter! I mean, come on, it's just rude. i've always left there with a bad taste, from both the service and the coffee. Oh, did I mention how bad the coffee was? Don't even get me started.
