One of the Business' Favorite Reviews What's This?
I'm not a guru on Indian cuisine, but when asked to check out a new restaurant in a city far far from home...I'm in.
This place is good! No! Great! Wait, not sure how to describe it other than I wish I could eat here every day.
I hate stale, picked over, and over crowded buffets. This may be the first time none of these things occurred. It was busy, but not crowded, that food kept pouring out of the kitchen. There were many selections about 3/4s of them were vegetarian. I'm not a vegetarian, but couldn't stop eating the spinach with potatoes. There was a station with a chef that made 3 or 4 special dishes. I'm not sure how to pronounce any of them but the cumin chickpea stew with hot sauce and bread was just awesome. I'm going back next week and I'm probably going to feel over full and exhausted just like right now! Great Meal!
My wife and I drove from Gaithersburg to Herdon and ate the Sunday lunch buffet. Overall, it was indeed worth the drive and we will likely go again.
Plusses:
- Good selection of meat, vegetable dishes and dessert dishes along with unlimited sodas and lasis.
- Goat curry, chicken vinadaloo and butter chicken masala were excellent.
- Carol halva was to die for and nice and warm. Anek bhalo bahsh!
- Well stocked bar.
- Parking was plentiful.
- Servers were well dressed (James Bond-ish), soft spoken and well mannered. They willingly changed the TV channel form the boring Zee TV (with some kids program) to the Redskins game upon my request. And the Reskins finally won a game!
Minuses
- A bit pricey I say($15 per person). Dont these people know there is a recession going on.
- Tandoori chicken was barely warm.
4.5 Stars! So we went in for the weekend buffet and what we got was the brunch buffet. I guess the waffles made it brunch. Don't let the waffles on the buffet table fool you... as the Indian food was awesome.
The brunch was 15 dollars and consisted of countless dishes. We tried a little bit of everything and well, almost all of it was great!
Butter Chicken - excellent with a mild sweetness and tender chicken
Goat dish - well spiced and tender pieces of meat (often hard to get with goat)
Tandoori Chicken - Although quite spicy, it was perfectly seasoned and tender! I found it to be much better here than at Rangoli.
Rice and Naan were both delicious when fresh, although they got a little tough and dry if they had been sitting around.
The reason I gave it 4.5 stars is because the vegetarian dishes on the buffet table were not that great and the mango lassi was extremely watered down. It tasted spot on but it was quite apparent that it was watered down. I am hoping that this is the case only because the drinks were included in the buffet.
I HIGHLY recommend!!
I'm usually not a big fan of Indian food, but Angeethi is great. The lunch buffet is definitely the best Indian buffet I've eaten at. There are a lot of different Indian dishes on the buffet, so if the only Indian food that you really know is tandoori chicken, you can try a little bit of each dish and go back for more of the ones that you like. My personal favorite here is the butter chicken. But pretty much all of the food there is really good.
In addition to the hot buffet, they have an area where you can make a chickpea salad type thing (sorry, I don't know my Indian food too well, I can't remember what it's called). There is also a dessert area that usually has two or three desserts that are very tasty.
The restaurant is very big, and can accommodate large groups. The price of the buffet is very good for the quality of food that you get.
My only complaints would be that the naan isn't that good. And while the food on the buffet is very good, it's lacking meat options. There are several good chicken dishes like the butter chicken and tandoori chicken, but no other kind of meat, it's mostly vegetarian. No rogan josh, which is my favorite Indian dish.
Ran in here for a quick dinner on Thursday night with a first timer to Indian food. Here's the quick and dirty - excellent service and prices. Really liked the Gosht Vindaloo (had some kick) and the Tandoori Mixed Platter (somehow the best Atlantic Salmon I've ever had along with memorable lamb, shrimp and chicken). Tried a bunch of different Naan and was never disappointed. Hope I get back in the area for work to try their lunch buffet.
This place probably offers the best Indian buffet for the money in this area. Rarely do you find an Indian buffet that offers Butter Chicken. Not only does this place offer Butter Chicken, but sometimes they even offer Butter Shrimp.
Everything you can think of to get your Indian fix, you probably can find in the buffet here. The price is very reasonable too, at about $10/person. It's also not just a feeding trough. They actually have servers who are waiting to serve you and the atmosphere is nice.
Hard to beat this place for a quick and good lunch that's not a hole in the wall.
Food is really, really, good. I really like the butter chicken. Have been going here for months now, management has been good also. Definitely worth checking out!
I am basing this review solely on the basis of their weekday lunch buffet.
The buffet is huge, and of very high quality, relative to any of its competition in NoVa. (The only one I think is better (and I'd give them 5 stars as well) is Jaipur in Fairfax.) I simply can't think of anything I'd knock this place for. I am always blissfully satisfied when I eat here. Yes, it's not cheap, but $12-ish for a great buffet like this is very well worth it, imho. The place also has plenty of charm. And unlike a lot of ethnic restaurants, they don't try to pander to an American clientele by playing country music or whatever. They play this (sometimes rather cheesy sounding) Indian muzak. I don't mind it. I'll take it over Adult Contemporary Lite Rock any day.
If I had to reach for one thing to complain about... it would be that, at certain tables, the table legs are bulky and obtrusive; you bang your knees as you scuttle into and out of your seat.
We love the food. The atmosphere is hilarious with that crazy furniture and the staff is very friendly.
I'm giving it 5 stars for the food but they're not quite there yet on the service. Close ... but not there yet. They don't really get that you shouldn't throw customers out or turn them away because they are closing in half an hour. I brought a friend their for lunch, we arrived late and they didn't want to seat us because they wanted to close up the the kitchen soon (i.e. not closed yet). We pointed out that they were "going to throw away all that food, why not just let us fill our plates, sit down and bring us a bill and make a little money during their last 1/2 hour?" They were cool with that so we had a great time but it was kind of weird that we had to point out the obvious.
If they want to close earlier ... they could change the sign and lock the door. That's smarter than telling people they want to go home and just don't feel like feeding us.
I think if they can just get the clue that every customer matters every time they walk in the door, this place could be the best Indian in the area.
When we went as a family, they treated my kids like royalty and cleaned up after us as if it was no big deal. That impressed us. Parents ... you know how embarrassing it is when your normally well behaved kid makes a mess in a nice place. They act as if families are normal and kids are people to be respected, we liked that. This is one of our favorite family dinner locations.
I've been to this restaurant several times now. The food has always been very good. I especially like coming in for the buffet, which has lots of options.
The staff are also really good at suggesting new dishes to try. Even though I'm a picky eater, I haven't been disappointed by any of their recommendations.
After reading all the Yelp Reviews, I know the rage here is the Buffet but I sadly admit, I wasn't impressed. The quality of the food on the other hand ... now that's where we're talking stars!
The cuisine was very authentic, delicious and the menu was lengthy. There's definitely something for everyone at this locale. I went with a friend for lunch and it was relatively quiet which was nice for the conversation. The service was also impeccable. As soon as we sat down they said, "You're here for buffet, no?" At first, the answer WAS no (I was actually excited to order from the menu) but after much indecision I decided to go with the buffet just so I didn't have to wait further to eat. (This is no slight to them though, I was being a traditional chick and I was too busy talking with my girlfriend).
Anyway, my friend went up the buffet to see what was available. The service was so good then when she told the waiter she was just looking he said, "I will put a little something together for you!" ... and well, he did. Service or flirting? Who knows. Either way it was attentive and we enjoyed the hodge-podge that he put together from his little station.
At the end of the day, I can easily say that the 30 min. drive from Arlington to this location was totally worth it. If it weren't so 'far' this would easily be a regular spot of mine and I would add it to the "What are we eating?" list.
Ok, I guess I haven't really tried Indian, because let me tell ya. This was excellent and now I feel like I have to try everything in the menu. I will apologize for not knowing the names of the dishes I tried. It was lamb dish with onions, peppers and garlic in a brown sauce. We also had a variety of sauce to dip our garlic naan in.
The decor in this place is amazing, very upscale looking. The staff is very friendly too. A nice selection of Indian beers as well. The Flying horse was a nice lager. Can't wait to try a new one.
So all you yelpers, this place is a must try. You will not be disappointed.
-Lipford Out
LOCATION= Easy to spot, right beside the centreville rd, lots of parking space.
ATMOSPHERE= Feels like in India when you eat there.
FOOD= Great Buffet, lots of food and very tasty.
SERVICE= Very attentive and friendly.
PRICE= Very Reasonable.
OVERALL= Will come back again and again.
Dahi Bhala - too watery
Tandoori chicken - great
Lamb curry - meat was a little tough but good
Rice - too oily
Tastewise, it is average but the place has a nice atmosphere.
I really, really want to try the lunch buffet, but I've actually only ever gotten takeout from here, so I can't judge Angeethi on their service or even really their decor. If that means you will disregard my review, so be it. I don't like you anyway.
I've always been really pleased with the food from Angeethi. I can't confirm whether or not it's authentic, but I can confirm that it is excellent. The samosas with ground chicken are pretty good, and the naan is quite fluffy and delicious. I find it annoying that the side of raita is $4, but at least they give you a decent sized tub of it. Their basmati rice is really, really delicious, probably some of the best I've had. The lamb curry and chicken curry are both very good, but my family's favorites are the butter chicken and the "Jingha Shahi," which is jumbo shrimp in a creamy curry. The sauces are really tasty, but, unlike some places I've tried, they don't totally skimp on the meat and give you a couple pieces just swimming in sauce.
To be honest though, that probably wouldn't be a problem for my family. Even after we've eaten each chunk of chicken and every single shrimp, the curries and sauces from Angeethi are so good that my dad insists we keep them so he can have them over white rice. The very first time we got takeout from here, I tossed the remaining sauces and he was super disappointed the next day--he admitted to actually having dreamt of those Angeethi leftovers. Needless to say, it wasn't too long before we ordered takeout again. So yeah, you should probably try this place.
3.5 stars.
I have not dined at the restaurant, so this review will only comment on the food. Angeethi is a very consistent, solid choice for catering. They provide large trays of steaming food accompanied by loads of basmati rice (nicely scented with saffron and cardamom), doughy naan, plates, and plastic ware. The Karahi chicken, melded with onions, tomatoes, and peppers, is a bit oily for my taste, the daal balti could be a touch thicker, and the chicken tikka masala does not always taste completely fresh (it sometimes has a tin element, as though the tomatoes have been canned). However, the spicy Karahi paneer with vegetables is excellent, the paneer both creamy and firm, and full of spices. And, the aloo tikka has the proper crispy and creamy consistency, the beautiful chutneys providing a bouquet of flavors. Recommended, if your Indian friends aren't cooking.
This was only the second time I've ever eaten Indian food. This time was much better than the first.
Angeethi prides itself on being authentic. The dining room is large with all the furniture being imported straight from India. It really looks impressive. Also, they have an open kitchen. I felt so good seeing the chefs working right before my eyes. They also have a banquet room fashioned to hold about 26 people with special decor fit for Indian royalty.
The menu was very robust with every Indian dish you could imagine. I didn't know exactly what I wanted, but I knew what I wanted it to taste like. I had just recently bought a bag of Naan bread from the local Costco, so I wanted a good Indian sauce to dip into. I also wanted to eat some meat so I told him to pick out a chicken dish with a lot of sauce and some spice. The man taking my order picked out a dish similar to what I asked for then said he would tell the chef how to alter it to suit my needs. The best part is I could actually see this conversation go down with the open kitchen.
The food was very tasty. I had also gotten an appetizer of stuffed peppers, and it was to hot (as in spicy) to eat. I was really sweating after biting into this. The chicken dish was also very spicy, but I managed to finish about 90% of it.
What really solidifies this place as the best is the low prices. The have won awards within the Washington D.C. / Northern Virginia area for being the best restaurant for those on a budget. I got a big entree and an appetizer, and still stayed safely under $20. Also, they have a buffet table. I was ordering take out, so I didn't hear the deal with this. I hear it is good.
For the quality of the food, the authenticate Indian atmosphere, the Buffet, and last but not least THEY GOT A FULL BAR.
5 stars Angeethi ..... I can now say I like Indian food.
I will add a resounding YOWSAH! to the rest of the excellent reviews of Angeethi. My experience is with dinner only.
Angeethi moved into the (previous) Black Eyed Pea (long gone) and did a remarkable job of blending Indian motif with the Pea's "down home" motif. There is also a traditional seating area near the rear of the restaurant.
Wonderful menu with many dishes not on other Indian restaurants' menus. Best durn wait staff around. Friendly, attentive, willing to make suggestions, and genuinely pleased when you take the suggestion. I'm impressed that on three separate occaisions our waiter remembered my preference for "Indian spicy."
Absolutely in the top three Indian restaurants in NOVA. Don't miss it!
Been to several Indian buffts here and there, but Angeethi is as best as it gets. Their weekend brunch buffet is fantastic. I especially like the added touch of the appetizer station manned by a chef that makes you various chaats and noodles/omelet dishes. That is in addition to the already several choices on the buffet, including excellent butter chicken and goat curry. They even had a scallop and shrimp curry that was pretty good. I like the free juices and lassis they even include on the bar that you get with your bufft. Waay more choices and better than Minerva in my opinion.
Service is always good here. I like the Nan that they serve on the table as Indian bread can never be good from a buffet.
For appetizers they have Papri chat and maybe they should demo it or serve it for customers who may not know how to combine it.
Gulab Jamun is excellent. Another point to appreciate is that they can give you seperate checks for credit cards and show that in your charge slip
Waffling at two and a half stars. Small lot but plenty of parking nearby to be had. Traditionalized decor. The host was slightly rude on the phone, and forgot my drink.
Sweet lassi was okay, but I've had better. I don't recommend their garlic naan at all, and they gave us two garlic naan instead of one garlic and one cheese. The two keema samosas were perched on a thin bed of storebought lettuce (iceberg and some strands of red cabbage). Packaged a little too soon, seeing as the pastry points burned through the styrofoam on one side. Outer shell was nice and flaky, but the ground chicken within was mealy and underseasoned. Basmati rice was okay despite being overparched; dash of peas, and stick of cinnamon was less notable than the cardamom and saffron flavor. Definitely doesn't keep well in the fridge. Gosht madras was quite good compared to everything else; meat was a few steps past medium-well done, and the coconut curry sauce was spicy. Lamb chop tandoori was sliced thinner than anticipated and off-center, but extraordinarily tender. Sadly, the provided sauces were watery and distasteful to pair, and so failed to really compensate the blandness.
Kind of disappointing for the premium. I feel like there's a lot of potential to be had if I pin down the right menu choice, so I may be back to try them again... especially since the White Dragon was definitely happy with that lamb curry.
Believe it or not there was a point in my life when I thought that this wasn't some of the best indian food around, in scientific terms this is what is called my ignoramous nincompupti stage in Indian food appreciation evolution. Thankfully I have come to realize that this is some of the best food around, buffet or not. My first litmus test, the naan, you have to ask for the naan but it is fresh and crispy as opposed to abundant and soggy in the buffett tray. The butter chicken is amazing, as well as the tandoori chicken, I also enjoy all the veggie options. What's also unique about this place and sets it apart is the desserts, I love their fruit custard thing and if they have the carrot dessert...game over, that stuff is insanely good.
This place rocks, if it had the chili chicken that they have at Minerva it would be a five star, but even without this place is the best around.
I've been here twice in the past two weeks, pretty much on whim. The first time was because I'd never been before, and I've easily driven past it at least a hundred times. The second time was because the boys were having dinner here, so I popped in for a bite.
As others has noted, this place is relatively upscale. One could almost imagine that this is an extension of the Indique restaurants, with the classy decor and the real cloth napkins. I'm a little miffed about the style of the tables, though. Apparently you're supposed to sit with one of the table legs in between your legs. At least, the arrangement of the chairs and the cushions of the bench seats would indicate such. Your alternative is to sit on the crack between the two bench cushions so that you're sitting in between the table legs, but that's a little awkward too.
We had the lamb biryani and the veg thali both visits, and the servings are pretty sizable. For two people, I imagine that splitting some kind of starter (chaat, samosa) and an entree would probably be enough. The Hyderabadi Gosht Biryani wasn't nearly as spicy as the name would suggest. When I think Hyderabadi hot, I think of tear-jerking, nose-running levels of heat. This was probably closer to a Safeway brand salsa of the mild variety hot. Solid flavors, tender lamb, and enough for two.
The thali was enjoyable, although, again, pretty unexpectedly bland. Lentils, random veggies, a giant pile of rice, and some tomatoes and onions. The fare felt very traditional to me - it looks a lot like what the buffet at our office in Bangalore served up when I was working in India. Filling, but not exciting.
Service was extremely hospitable, too. I don't think my glass ever made it beyond half empty before someone would come by to refill it. Empty plates got whisked away - at some points they would ask to take away plates before we were done picking at them.
I may need to try and stop by for the lunch buffet I hear so much about. In the meanwhile, I'm satisfied with the fare for dinner, although it doesn't stand out compared to the other offerings in the vicinity.
In the midst of a Angeethi buffet induced food coma ... trying to stay awake to write this review ... why do I do this to myself? I want to curl up under my desk, with a fluffy naan pillow and slather myself in butter chicken and chicken tikka masala. Have hyperglycemic dreams of paneer, onion bajji and dal. Uuuuuuuuuuugggggggggghhhhhhhhhh...
The buffet is good. It's even better the second round. Go.
Very nice Indian lunch buffet. I pretty much alternate between here and Minerva for all of my Indian lunch buffet needs.
They have a really good lentil dish here. Put it over some rice, and it is mighty fine.
Getting back to my roots, I realized that I hadn't had a buffet in awhile. Nothing beats gorging yourself at lunch and not having to eat for the rest of the day (unless you want to).
The selection is not as great as Minerva, but some of the dishes are prepared better. They give you a basket of naan rather than leave it in the open buffet. I liked the biryani and the butter chicken better here. There aren't as many dessert options and I like the chutney and raita better at Minerva.
The place is pretty nice and looks bigger than you would expect from the outside. Service was good. There is plenty of parking, and they have signs that say you can park in the church parking lot.
One of the best natural hangover cures available to man is turmeric. Guess which cuisine is full of this wonderful spice - Indian!
It was only natural for my group of friends and I to seek some really good Indian food to cure our hangover after an evening that took a heavy toll on our brain cells. Someone suggested Angeethi, and we collectively decided to try the lunch buffet here.
The restaurant is pretty spacious, but let's get down to business - quality of food. I have one word to describe the food - scrumptious. The polite server suggested we start our attack on the buffet with the 'chaat' section. 'Chaat' is an Indian term for savory snacks generally devoured with lots of relish. There are two cooks that prepare the fresh snacks. They even had the Punjabi traditional corn flatbread and mustard curry dish.
It was delectable, probably more so because we were HUNGRY.
Moving on to the actual fare, it was primarily North Indian with lots of curries. I liked the vegetarian selection, and although it couldn't be compared with homecooked dishes, I liked the no-frills simple dishes. The flatbreads were really well cooked, too. Rice used was good quality Indian basmati.
The service was impressive and we had no problems keeping our glasses full of water. Did I mention that sodas are included in the buffet? Also, for just an extra $2, you get the option to get many beers and wines on your buffet, as well.
I liked the decor, although the dining tables compromised on usability in favor of style.
Definitely an Indian restaurant that deserves many more repeat visits, especially for the quality of the weekend lunch buffet!
Great Indian buffet. I guess I have to be pretty fortunate to have Minerva and Angetthi both within driving distance from my work.
Butter chicken was damn good and their rice pudding is awesome with some fresh peaches.
I *heart* Indian food and although it's pretty hard to tell the difference between a good place and a great place, you should check this place out.
Let's hope that this place doesn't get cursed by the old Korean BBQ that used to be here.
Been to the buffet here a few times over the last couple of months and have never been disappointed. This place has great variety and excellent service. They've started doing Indian style chickpeas with fresh toppings 7 days a week in addition to their extensive buffet. From apps to dessert most dishes were very good. My only complaint is the black dal was over salted today. Buffet is a good value, $11.95, which is a bit higher than others in the area. I'd pick going here over any other in Herndon/Reston as you get a larger variety of choices. They always have 2 apps, several entrees and sides and 2 desserts to choose from. The dining room is quite large and can accomodate a good sized crowd.
The decor is pleasant. The booths are narrow and uncomfortable. The chairs are heavy and difficult to pull out.
The staff are attentive and well trained. The glasses are always filled.
The food is North Indian cuisine. It is mildly spiced, rich and authentic. The salad bar is passable. They could have more appetizers.
The chaat bar is awesome. I love the channa samosa or aloo tikka they make in front of you. But it is not available on all days during lunch. It might be helpful if the website showed when the chaat bar is available.
I have visited Angeethi more than 10 times and I have always returned satiated and satisfied.
**** 3.75 stars *****
what sucks is i had to drive out to Herndorus today in order to pick up the mate's pop since he was immobile. the good deal out of this is the mate took me out for lunch and i got to pick where. it was a toss up between here and this Japanese spot at the Kmart shopping center. since it ain't smart to eat fish on a Monday, opted on Indian.
first off, LOVE the decor, the hypnotic Indian beats, and delightfully friendly and attentive staff. the booth seating is comfortable but w/ deep seats that make you feel like a midget or a kid, which i liked.
the buffet was what really nailed it for me... what a spread. pretty much all of the standard Indian fare and then some. for the most part, it delivered... however, comparing to my fave spot, Bombay Curry Co in Del Ray, it def doesn't hold up. the lentil soup was watery. the butter chicken, albeit moist, was not nearly as flavorful, and the naan was too greasy and doughy, imo.
in a nutshell, i'd come back if be in the urrea and in the mood for Indian. def one of the better spots i've been to, even if it isn't as good as my trusty Bombay.
Good solid Indian food. Nothing too fancy-shmancy, although the building is great and there is a super bar there.
I have only been for the lunch buffet about , ooh, 50 times, and it is smashing.
Just walking in the door of an Indian there is a sureffire way to figure out how good it is - how many South Asians are there dining ?- this place always scores extremely highly on that count - although that could be more to do with mutli-cultural Herndon than anything else. Multi-cultural
Herndon. I love that phrase. The town could use it as a slogan.
Wow, what an awesome Indian place! Ate dinner here last night and we had a great meal.
Started with a vegetarian variety appetizer, the 5 things on it were delicious. The green curry sauce was perfect and the carrot "pickles" had us asking for more.
I got the chicken vindaloo, which I knew would be spicy. Well, it did not disappoint at all! SO GOOD. It was flavorful and very spicy, but not overwhelmingly so. Had some nan bread with rikka on the side, very tasty.
One of the nicest Indian places I've eaten in. Good food, good service. I'll be back!
A first rate restaurant. The interior of the restaurant is very tasteful and pleasing. The wait staff is excellent. They're prompt, helpful and cheerful.
I had the goscht vindaloo. It was spicy and had great taste. And the Nan bread that came with it was perfect.
Only two minor negatives. The tables were designed to guarantee banging your knees. They were apparently designed for a species from another planet. The waiter was good enough to warn me. Secondly, watch how you specify the heat you want. I picked "medium hot" and the food was about as hot I would like. They had two levels above "medium hot" the highest of which is called "India hot". God knows what "India hot" is like, but I'm pretty sure the server has to wear a hazmat suit.
All in all a really good place to go for Indian food, and I'll go back.
Year ago I visited this location when it was the Black Eye Pea.
I stopped here for the lunch buffet and arrived almost at the end of the service. I was told politely that I was there a bit late but that I was welcome to enjoy my lunch and that I might want to get an extra plate before they took away the food.
Considering I wasn't there during prime time, I was even more impressed. The food was excellent. The atmosphere was very nice. The wait staff was incredible.
You can be sure I'll return.
Outside of my usual stomping grounds of Bombay Cafe in Fairfax, I have been rather disappointed by other Indian buffets....until now. My good friend JP introduced this place to me a few weeks ago and I have to say I was pleasantly surprised with this place.
The restaurant location is a bit tough to find for the first time since it's a stand-alone building with rather crappy parking accommodations. From the outside it doesn't look like much, in fact it looks like one of the facilities you see on 20/20 that manufacture crystal meth. In any case, once you step inside though, you are hit with an aroma that cannot be confused with anything other than an indian restaurant. The decor is very upscale and reminded me of Bombay Palace in DC, another fine northern Indian establishment.
I was there for lunch buffet and served up my usual butter chicken (chicken tikka masala), rice, tandoori chicken, and experimented a little with the other types of chicken. The quality of this food was amazing for a buffet and not too spicey at all. Their naan was also fresh and constantly served throughout your meal. Needless to say, service was very good, I would almost say excellent. I wish they had more dessert offerings, but the only option I really had was the vermicelli pudding which tasted incredible and the ever elusive gulab jamun (AKA sugar balls of death) I dare not eat an entire one as it probably will cause instant diabetes.
My problem here (you know this was coming) is that the prices are a bit steep for a lunch buffet, more appropriate for a dinner buffet if you ask me. Their samosa's are overfried and did not taste very good, even after I smothered them in the mint chutney. To my surprise, the butter chicken, that looked and smelled great, ended up being too saucy and left me with a bad after taste. Surprisingly, their mystery chicken, which name escapes me right now, next to it was much better and I served up seconds of that.
Overall, if you're in the reston/herndon/sterling area, you should definitely give this place a try.
This is the best Indian food I have had! Went to the lunch buffet so I could taste as much as I could. I was not disappointed. Unfortunately when I got there I just dug right in not thinking to write down what all I had! I can say that everything I had was excellent and I can't wait to go back again. Of the items that I do remember, the butter chicken was awesome. There Mango Lassi hit the spot and I had to get the Murg Masala twice. I did enjoy the music that they were playing and I liked the legs of the tables. They look like big tree trunks. Service was great. They were right there to clear the plates and to re-fill our water.
I'd heard a lot of good things about this restaurant so I had pretty high expectations. We went for the lunch buffet and it definitely lived up to those expectations.
I'm normally not a fan of buffets... I feel like something will inevitably be cold or an entire dish will be missing or something will be mislabeled. Didn't run into any of those problems here. The food was delicious. You'll definitely be going back for seconds or thirds.
There's a pretty wide variety of dishes so they were spicy enough for those who like it hot and still had options for those who like it milder.
You should be warned that it gets reeeeally crowded on weekends for the lunch buffet -- not only because of the great food but also because of the reasonable price.
However, I took away a star for their lack of variety in desserts. If you're going for Indian sweets-- you won't find many during the lunch buffet.
A work colleague and I ate lunch here today. I'd seen the good reviews of this place on Yelp and wanted to check it out! We arrived about 12:40 pm - and there was a wait to get a table. We put our name on the wait list and sat down to chat while we waited for our names to be called. I was not watching the clock, but I would hazard we waited about 10 minutes.
We both opted for the lunch buffet, I stocked up on a number of vegetable dishes, spicy green beans, a curried cauliflower dish, a spinach and lentils dish, plus several meat dishes I can't recall the names of. Everything was succulent, and full of flavor. However, none of the dishes were very hot - as always is the case with Indian buffets in order to appeal to the greatest number of folks.
I went back for seconds, but this time stopped at a station that was part of the buffet. A large almost wok-like pan of a lentils dish was simmering, and there were several sauces and this large thin pieces of a bread. I asked about it - the guy running the station told me about it - I asked if it was spicy - he told me no, I told him I was disappointed that it was not spicy - so he told me he could make it spicy for me. So I took him up on it. He went off to the side and ladled something into the lentils that was a deep reddish-brown color. I took my dish back to the table - it was delicious! And hot! I was perspiring. The bread served with this fantastic! I used it to sop every bit of sauce!
I went back and asked the guy working the station what the dish was called - but I was having trouble understanding what he said - so I gave up!
I would love to come back here for dinner and try out some really spicy dishes!
The interior of this place is gorgeous.
The food is absolutely wonderful and the waitstaff is fast.
The thing to mention is that Indian food, at least for me, tends to have a variance factor to it. That is to say, I may love the same dish from one place and dislike it from another. (This tends to be different from other cuisines where I always default to the same thing).
That said, Indian Buffets are always a pretty good bet for me -- because I can try absolutely everything and gauge it for a later sit-down event. And of course, when lunching with friends from work, it makes splitting the check real easy.
