I've had tiny bits and pieces of Indian food a few years back, but I've never really had a full meal...until now. My husband and I came here to eat dinner with my family. My brother had eaten here before with his girlfriend and highly recommended it.

It's located on Torrance Blvd and Arlington Blvd. There's plenty of parking space on the street in front of the restaurant and around the restaurant.

There was no one in the restaurant besides my family and the people working at the restaurant. When you first walk in, there's an 'outdoor' section of tables where guests can dine. Then there's an 'inside' section that's a lot bigger. It seems they offer buffet dinner because there was a corner completely dedicated to it.

We were quickly helped and they gave us enough time to look over the menu. I ended up ordering their 'Tikka Masala' because their description read, 'A must have for first timers.' I'm not a spicy type of person, so I ordered 'mild' instead of 'medium.' We also ordered their naan garlic bread (similar to pita bread), which caused a little bit of confusion on my part (haha!).

Anyway, all I can say is that my food was delicious! I can't really compare it to anything because I've never had Indian food, but if Indian food tastes like this then GIVE ME MORE please!

When we got our check, there was confusion over the total amount. There was an amount that we couldn't account for and they didn't label it. We were a party of 5 and apparently they automatically include tip for any parties larger than 4 people.

Some guy was on the phone most of the time I was there and taking orders, so I assume most of their customers order take out rather than eating in.

They have excellent customer service: quick and friendly!

GREAT FOOD.  I don't eat a lot of Indian food but this place makes me want to.  The chicken tikka masala is amazing, as well as their chicken Vindaloo.

If you are in the area and are craving Indian food, you can't go wrong here. Very helpful and friendly staff and a nice quiet atmosphere.

Can't ask anything more out of an indian lunch buffet than that. They play hits (chicken tikka, lamb curry) and the right deeper tracks (aloo bhangai?? Egg curry) saag was great.

My vegan friend was just as happy as I.

I really loved this place. The owner greeted us at the door and seated us. We were given our drinks very quickly.

We had the lunch buffet and wow this was great. I have only been here one time I can't wait to go back and see if it is consistent.

I had a little of everything in the buffet and everything had amazing taste and the service was great!!

Go check this place out and make up your own mind!!

This is now my go to place for Indian food! It is closer to my work then the other Indian restaurant that I usually go to.

I recommend this place to everyone!!

My husband and I are very acquainted with Indian cuisine. Angara is one of the most authentic Indian restaurants we have come across in the South Bay. They have an original Tandoor in the back which makes all their food authentic. The service is great and the food is amazing, try out the chicken tikka! Absolutely love this place.

Many of my co-workers love this place. They say it tastes like home.  They are right, the food tasted just like home! Just like home meaning when you get home and not sure what to cook so, you throw together some food quickly.

When I got the buffet line, most of the trays were empty except egg curry. You know who makes egg curry? College students from India living in dorms. Next item in the buffet ground lamb curry. You know who makes ground lamb curry? College students form India living in dorms when they have some money.  Was the chef lazy that day and thought it's Friday - I'll just boil eggs and defrost some ground meat in some random curry sauce. People will think I made two dishes.

In fairness, the food was decent enough and reasonably priced.  Nothing in particular stood out. Although, the kheer (rice pudding) tasted watered down. The tandoori when available was pretty good. If you really are craving for Indian food and can't make the drive to Tandoor in Orange, then I suppose this will do.

Dropped by again to give this place a second chance. Holy sh-t, the place smelled like ass.

Actually, that's not true. The place smells like dog farts.

Also, there is parking in the back of the restaurant. If you park on Portola Avenue you will get ticketed and towed.

Ok, the prices have gone up and the buffet is simple and standard.  There are not a lot of choices but it's decent.  The location is good since it's close to where I work.  The naan was not hot and crispy on the edges, the way I like it.  I thought at one point, they delivered naan to you?  Maybe I'm wrong.   There was "egg" curry which was basically hard boiled eggs in this curry.  Not impressed.  The rice pudding was in a huge pan and very milky, not almondy like I'm used to which was a disappointment.  It didnt have the right texture.

Best Indian food in the South Bay area, hands down. Here's what kind of restaurant it is: my wife and I had been there a few times before and ordered the same things. On our last visit, we did the same, minus the usual appetizer. Our waiter brought us that appetizer, on the house, because he remembered us and how much we liked it.

Places like this are too few and far between these days.

I was a bit worried about this place regarding the service after reading some of the reviews, but in fact it was after sitting down at the table to have dinner with my friend...so, decided to see how it goes.

Well, the service was slow especially with the only one server.  We noticed customers at other tables were also trying to get the only server's attention.

We got menu right away, but we had to give 15 min or so until she finally came back to take an order.  Beer was served 5 min later, but it took them additional 20 min for water...

Chicken tikka masala was very good, also we liked mango ice cream.  It was lot of food which we had no way to finish, and the bill was super friendly to your wallet.

Food: 4 stars minus service, thus 3 stars overall...

My husband and I have been here so many times, I can't believe I haven't left a review yet!

He's a vegetarian, and I'm not, so we always order a huge table of food, and take home enough for 2-3 more meals.  Our faves are vegetables tikka masala and the Bartha.  So good!  I've never been disappointed with the mussel curry.  The only slight disappointment is the dinner salad, I don't know why I keep ordering it...it's an Indian restaurant, after all, LOL!

The service is delightful, they always remember us!  We've gone on New Years Eve for the last few years, and it's become our tradition now.

I'm a poor judge of Indian food, but I know what I like. I can't say that Angara has made it onto my "Do Not Enter" list, but it's definitely not the first place I think of either. I've only been for the buffet, which at $10.95, is a bit pricey compared to other Indian restaurants I've been to. They have a pretty good selection of food in their buffet lunch. I always leave full after dining here. They have vegetarian options and chicken and lamb for the carnivores out there. They have a small "salad" bar with condiments and a rice and raisin pudding for dessert. Service is virtually non-existent, but I'm not sure if it's because I've only been here for the buffet or if this is regular practice.

I will probably come back and not complain, because the food is not bad. But it's not high on my list of places to revisit. I usually stop by when I've grown bored of all my other lunch options.

I've been deprived of Indian food for a long time, but I still don't think I liked Angara.  I went for the lunch buffet with two co-workers, and while it was serviceable, with a few things that tasted pretty good, I don't know if I want to go back.

The place had about zero atmosphere, which I don't really mind.  It was an hassle-free meal.  We went straight for the food and took an empty table, where a waitress brought us water.  Service was minimal, which was fine, except the naan chamber at the buffet was empty for a long time.  That seemed like a pretty bad oversight.

The buffet was disappointing, though there were enough decent options that I left full.  I had a favorite Indian lunch buffet when I was in school, and maybe that place was just unreasonably good, but it's my salient point of reference.  The big problem with Angara's food was that all the curry sauces were soupy and thin, and just not very satisfying.  They didn't cling to the meat or vegetables or naan except in a meager liquid way.  They lacked heartiness.  The flavors, at least, were pretty good.

I tried almost every dish available and a couple were worth going back for.  I liked the homemade chicken curry, which had big hunks of chicken still on the bone, which slid off at a touch.  The curry had some depth of flavor, and the chicken was tender.  The ground lamb curry also tasted pretty good, with a lot of tomato to the sauce.  The ground meat made the curry seem thicker, counteracting its anemic thinness.  The fried vegetable pakora was also decent.

I didn't care for the rest of the stuff.  The tandoori chicken had good texture, but it wasn't very well seasoned.  The chicken tikka seems to be a favorite here, but I wasn't sold.  The tikka masala sauce was actually quite good, but for whatever reason, the kitchen decided to use tough tasteless slabs of meat instead of the moist chicken in the homemade chicken curry.  They might as well have been soy (which is a huge diss for any animal product).  The vegetable korma would have been okay, but the vegetables were thoroughly overcooked.  Not even close to okay was the saag.  Sad, watery, and again, thin.  As for the naan it tried to sit on, that was okay, but nothing special.

At the end of the meal, I wasn't unhappy, but I don't think I'll come back to Angara with all the other incredible lunch options in Torrance.  At $10.85 before tip, it was more expensive than a few spots I like a whole lot more.  When the Indian craving strikes, I'll probably look for other options.

After a year or so of wondering what this place was a about, my wife and I decided to try it a few months back.  And were we surprised!  We loved it!  Upon enjoying some Torrance/surrounding Indian eateries that have closed like Red Fort and Tandoori Nites...we were getting a bit sad that there wasn't something close to us we could enjoy.  Then we finally thought of trying the one right near old town Torrance.

And Angara tops them all!  We still enjoy Bombay Tandoori if we're in that area, but for the old town/Lomita area, Angara is our favorite!

First of all the service is wonderful!  The waitress is always super friendly and always accommodating for any special needs/requests.  When the service is that wonderful, it simply makes the dining experience more enjoyable!

We're creatures of habit...my wife always gets shrimp Tikka Masla, I always get spicy lamb Vindaloo, we share a bindhi marsala (okra), we share garlic naan and I usually try the Mulagatawney soup.  (Ever since Seinfeld planted the seed in my head, I must always get it!)  After explaining our order to the waitress, she recommended I try the Rogan Josh, a specialty of theirs that packs some of the same heat as vindaloo.  I took her up on it, and I was thrilled!  it was amazingly flavorful!  My wife's tikka masala was also fantastic!  The bindhi masala was equally delicious.  And to top it all off, the naan was perfect!  Eric Greenspan...you need to check these guys out too!

To make things even more difficult for the restaurant, my wife hates cilantro.  (Which makes Indian dining particularly tough since it is used so often).  but upon explaining it to our waitress, she said she would make sure no cilantro would be in my wife's dishes or our shared dishes.  We're heard that before only to find it in there in some places!  But not at Angara!  They got it 100% correct!  And every time we've gone, it always the same great service and follow-through on the request!

Upon our next visit, we got our usual, but I decided I had to try the vindaloo now.  And it was also very well done!

Upon our most recent visit, I opted for another change-up, and tried the Chili chicken, but asked if I could get lamb instead.  They were more than happy to oblige!  Again, it was amazingly prepared and delicious!  We also decided to change up the bindhi and go for their mango ribs.  A bit unsual of an item, but very good!  it's not like a rack of ribs, bt more like short ribs.  They are pork, and the mango sauce with onion is very sweet.  But tasty!

We still have so much to try there!  But, that's a fun task we're more than happy to take on!

(We always prefer to have a regular dinner or lunch in lieu of a buffet.  The customized preparation to spice level and everything else is just a better barometer of quality.  Plus there's a tendency to eat too much at a buffet!)

Angara is simply a wonderful neighborhood gem!  If you have the hankering for some tasty Indian food, you should give Angara a try!

I LOVE curry dishes, and I haven't had any Indian food since I was in Portland four months ago.  I saw this on the way home from work, and I decided to stop and try their lunch buffet.

I enjoyed the food, but it was much pricier than the lunch buffet I had up in Portland, and the food wasn't as good.  As I said, I love curry; and for some reason, the curry flavoring wasn't as prominent in the dishes offered at the buffet at this place.  Still, it was good.  Another thing I didn't like was the fact that though the containers the food was in were labeled, not being a frequent Indian food eater, I didn't know what most of it was.  I'm used to a brief description of the dish underneath the name.  Fortunately, the waiter in the dining room (the owner, maybe?) seemed happy to answer any questions about what the dishes were and what was in them.  He provided very polite service.  He was one of the most polite waiters I've ever had.  He came by three times:  To take my order, to ask if I wanted my plates cleared, and to take the check.  While he didn't ask if I enjoyed my food or if I wanted anything else, that was okay, being that I ordered from the buffet.  And again, he happily answered any questions that I had about the buffet dishes.

I don't know if I'll ever return.  I can't say that I definitely won't... but I know I won't be rushing back.  While the food was enjoyable, it wasn't something that I'd rush back to eat.

Great place. Most of the Indian here in the south bay is pretty pathetic, but here you get the real thing. Dark? Call it cosy and quaint. 5 to 7 minutes for someone to take your order? Go to Mickey Dee's.
Yeah don't park on Portola, go an extra block or park in the small lot behind. If you're going for dinner you can park right on Torrance Blvd. My wife and I love this place for date night, have a great meal and then the mall for a movie.
We're taking our 3 1/2 year old here tonight and you should have seen my wifes face light up when I asked her if she'd like to go. One of our top 5 favorites in ALL of L.A.
BTW, a five star is Super rare with me.

My family recently discovered Angara thanks to my brother moving near by!  And we definitely love this place!

All the food we have ordered has been delicious.  So far this is what I have tried & I have enjoyed it all!

    -Samosa
    -Garlic naan
    -Chicken Tikka
    -Chicken Tikka Masala
    -Lamb Vindaloo
-a paneer (cheese, veggie) dish that I cannot remember the name of
-Rice (tasty especially mixed with the sauces in the other dishes!)
-this orange/carrot dessert that they have given to us (SUPER sweet & yummy!!!)

All of the dishes you have your choice of heat level.  I find that medium is a good spice level for me even though I am sort of a spicy wimp.

It looks like they have a buffet (probably for lunch).  I have not had the opportunity to try this yet but hopefully one day I can.

The family that owns & runs the restaurant are all very nice.

They play these awesome Bollywood music videos!  My dad loves to watch them & my mom swears that she knows the songs lol

We enjoy our meals here & will continue to come back!

The interior is a little old and run down but you got to enter with the thought process of a different environment if you want to try different things.  Oh, the music... is really cool modern Indian stuff.  Quite interesting if you ask me.

They have a pretty decent lunch buffet that is airways hot and fresh.  The veggie pakora is yummy and bite size.  I go for any of the items they have five each is good quality.  Of course naan doing into the various sauces is s weakness of mine.  But they real reason I like this place beyond the good authentic food at good prices is they have a large screen TV which always has the best Bollywood music videos playing.  The wait staff is also very friendly and attentive.

While I was in town for business, I stumbled onto this place for a quick lunch buffet.

I thought the outside decor was misleading.  It looked like a seedy establishment, but the minute you walk in, the place brightened up and the staff was VERY friendly.

I enjoyed the food very much, but the buffet was a little messy.  I think if they cleaned up the trays and food stations, this would be the perfect place!

The price was reasonable and the establishment wasn't sectioned so the tables were right on top of each other.

I would recommend this place for folks who know about Indian food and have some level of understanding of the types of foods (not all stations were labeled) and the culture (they were playing Hindi music videos which was AWESOME!).

Came here for the lunch buffet...wasn't a fan. It was cheap, under $10 or so, but the food wasn't that great. Unappetizing-looking chicken noodle soup was one of the options (is that even indian?). The curries were mediocre, some a bit bland and sweet. Alot of the chicken pieces were mostly just bone and ligaments. Some of the curry dishes were out of solid pieces so when you scooped into the tray, there was just a pool of liquid runny curry. Most of the dishes were non spicy. The mango lassi tasted like artificially flavored mango yogurt you get at the supermarket for breakfast that's dyed an un-natural orange color. Not good.

Chicken Biryani!!! ordered very mildly spicy, just like I like it. This is the only place that so far has gotten my please-don't-make-it-so-spicy request every time.

The first time I ordered, I checked out their menu from the website, and since I was in the gotta-have-rice mood, I went for the chicken biryani. I made it To-Go for no reason, and thank goodness I did. No offense to the owners, but uh, I think the place looks like it's been around for a while, i.e. time for a make-over.

'Twas my first time ever ordering it, so I had no clue what I was in for. After arriving home and washing my hands, I sat down to open the container and *~angel voices!~* WOW! It looked gorgeous!! I took a picture of it, but only realized it after I had taken a spoonful out. The long grain rice was a glowing orange-yellow, sprinkled with thinly sliced almonds. Buried within, are sizable chunks of chicken, soft enough to be pulled apart into smaller bits by plastic utensils with ease. Ok, I realize I may be getting carried away here, but I've never had take-home food look like that upon opening it. It was like opening a buried treasure chest full of gold coins!

Anyway, the biryani came with this yogurt thingie called raita. It's kind of huge and it took me off guard as I'm used to the 2 Tbsp-sized container from Daphne's, haha! It had like, I think sliced carrots and other bits in there. It was good.

I've ordered under the Curries and Tandoori section, but unless it's a Lunch Special, they don't come with rice, so I revert back to the biryani. I once ordered their House Specialty, Ginger Chicken Kebab and that was rather surprising. The chicken came out green!! I'm not even kidding. Green as if it had been boiling in mint toothpaste or something, haha! I think it'd be a perfect halloween dinner =D

Wait, what was my point in writing this... oh yeah! This place rocks! So far I've liked everything I've ordered from here. I'm definitely coming back for more! It's just kind of annoying that it's out of my way, and I have to drive an extra 10 mins from my usual route, but when my taste buds get a preference for it, I can't deny the drive to it.

This place has decent Indian food for lunch.  I've only gone here for lunch so I don't know if dinner is good.

Lunch is a buffet and they have everything you'd expect to see at one.  Chicken Tikka Masala, Tandoori Chicken, Saagwala, Naan and more.  I like the food here but I'm a meat eater and I would have to say that they have just as many meat dishes as vegetarian dishes so if you are looking for a vegetarian only place, this is not the place.

If you come here I would recommend trying to get there at 11am or as close to 11 as possible before the lunch hour traffic or you will have a tough time getting the check.  We were there for 35 minutes and 15 of those minutes we spent waiting for the check.  I would also suggest coming earlier because the food just taste better since it's fresh at that moment.

My favorite Indian restaurant!  I usually go with a big group of friends and we do things family-style.  Lamb coconut curry is my favorite, but the Malai Kafta, and Chicken Tikka are also excellent.  Lately, they've had Bollywood music videos playing in the background, which is always entertaining!  Prices are reasonable and the staff is always friendly (they never fail to recognize me and my friends)!

This place is the Bomb! The food is actually better than what you get in India. I lived in India for 4 years so I know what real Indian food tastes like. This place is really amazing. Definitely the best Indian food restaurant I have been in US so far. If you love Indian cuisine this is the place.

Buffets are not my favorite type of serving style. For some reason I feel it's akin to a feeding trough for livestock.

I end up losing all sense of how much I'm eating, so I feel gluttonous. While I'm a big fan of sinning, I'd rather burn my karma points on other more desirous sins.

Not only that, but buffets have a tendency to turn into "all-you-can-stand".

While i'm no connoisseur of fine Indian cuisine, I thought this was good. I liked the selection of foods for a lunch course. I found the tikka masala that I love so much. They had a lot of the soupy type of curry sauces that I love.
I've had the dry style of Indian foods and I must say that I love sopping up the sauces with naan.

    Yum.

Parking in back, I think total was 10 bucks for the lunch buffet.

I think this restaurant owns stock in a food dye company.

The Bhartha was swimming in so much Red Dye #40 it practically GLOWED in neon orange.  The mint chutney looked like Sea Foam Green #5.  The Crimson on the Tandoori Chicken was so thick I could have painted my nails with the coating.

I've eaten at many Indian restaurants over the years and I realize they all use food coloring.  And although the color was a bit of a shocker, I honestly could have overlooked it had the food tasted good.  Let me summarize my disappointment here:

    Calamari Appetizer---soggy batter, no flavor.

Chicken Tikka Masala---neon orange, very oily, and strangely sweet.  My bf said it reminded him of pumpkin pie.

Mango Ribs---one of the priciest items on the menu at $17.95 and listed under their "House Specialty" section.  In this case, they must specialize in Chinese cooking because it tasted exactly like Sweet and Sour Pork.  And there isn't a single place I know of that charges $17.95 for Sweet and Sour Pork!

Tandoori Chicken (half)---dry, also no flavor.  Plus they didn't give us an entire half chicken (missing part of the breast and wing).

Bhartha---I've never had neon orange bhartha before.

Personally, I think they use the food color to hide the fact that the actual food doesn't taste very good.  If a psychedelic color palette floats your boat and you don't care what the food tastes like, Angara's your place.

But if you're looking for good quality Indian food that TASTES good, run away!  RUN AWAY!!!

HORRIBLE!!!May be wonderful for the Honda and Toyota employees around the area, but if you really know your India food..this is NOT the place..Besides the buffet is not worth the 8.99! We were there for an hour, YES, on vacation...waiting to see how long they would take to replenish the dishes that were low...at which time the Lentil dish was empty, sign was still there, only to learn an hour later it was replaced by another dish!
Manager or owner was not friendly, nor willing to compensate for the wait..There is a whole in the wall place off Sepulveda and Hawthorne in the lttle strip mall next door to Arco...4.99 for 2 servings, plus naan and pakori or samosa....SAVE the 4.00 and take a drive up to Hawthorne and take a left and rt on Sepulveda...

One of the best Indian restaurants in Torrance.  Delicious food, excellent customer service and a great menu.  They have new management and a new chef but they are still just as good as ever.

I visit this restaurant about once a month and I have never had the problems that the negative reviewers have mentioned (salty food, poor service, underspiced etc.)

The lunch buffet is worth trying although the staff have told me that the weekday lunch buffet gets very crowded, no doubt from the Honda and Toyota workers nearby.  Beat the crush and get there before noon.

Look out for the coupons in the local shopping magazines.

If you are tired of Krabby Curry, go to this restaurant instead.
