I love the old school feel of this place and the fact that it is within walking distance from my boyfriend's place.
The breakfasts here are huge, so you might want to just share a plate.
Orange Juice - no pulp, yay!
Huevos La Mexicana - amazing, love the crispy tortilla and the homemade salsa
California Omelet - if you love avocados, this is a great dish for you and it comes with hash browns
Pancakes - super fluffy and they taste so buttery you don't actually need to add butter to them
The service is great and really adds to the Mad Men feel of the place (and yes one episode of Mad Men was shot here). -

You won't like it...
Now that I've faked out those who only read the first few words of Yelp reviews, let me assure you that Andy's deserves 6-stars...Met some friends from out-of-town here, and it was delicious, quiet, and we enjoyed ourselves. I had decided in advance to go to some place regional, and "Not-Denny's" or "Not-IHOP." Great decision.
Had eggs, bacon, hash browns, bacon: perfect. Much to my surprise the bacon was on the thicker side than I would have expected. Wife enjoyed eggs with corned beef hash: similarly impressive. Friends had eggs, pancakes, hash browns. BTW, they had two little boys with them who are on the mellow-side of quiet.
The place is decidedly quiet; I doubt they have wifi in there, even though it's close to PCC. Parking in the back, but it was a Saturday AM, and I think the Pasadena PD is not really on the hunt on a vacant Colorado Blvd for long-term parking violators...
So,we're going back. Soon. Just don't start going there: you won't like it... -

Over the last year or so Andy's has become my go-to breakfast place in Pasadena. Admittedly I tend to prefer places to do the basics well to places that rely on unusual fare to stand out, so don't expect anything fancy -- things are done by the book, "just the facts".
With that said, they have friendly and prompt service, rather good food (including a menu for Mexican breakfast dishes), and great ambiance -- photos of celebrities, classic cars, and customers adorn the walls, as do photos from film shoots (scenes from Mad Men and Fast & Furious were shot here). Then there's the soundtrack, which ranges from 1930s American standards through 40s blues and 50s and 60s rock and roll.
Andy's is located on historic Route 66, but since it doesn't rely on that for business it better reflects the true character of the old highway -- friendly people and good food, cooked the way you want it.
Both breakfast and lunch menus are quite good, though I almost always find myself ordering my usual off the breakfast menu -- the "Andy's" (pancakes, eggs, sausage) and a cup of coffee.
Prices could be lower but are fair when one considers the portions -- half the breakfast is usually enough, and the rest gets packed up for lunch. $12-ish for a big breakfast plate and coffee.
All told, there isn't one thing that makes Andy's great, but between service, food, and atmosphere it's a damn good way to start the day. My only complaint is that I wish they were open later! -

Review from Caye B.
Came here for a Saturday morning breakfast. This humble 50's style diner is very basic. No frills, nothing fancy - it looks as though it has been unchanged since it opened. The walls are adorned with faded old Hollywood cut outs and photos and collages of magazine clippings for Mad Men (which was shot here.) Food was pretty decent, and the service was friendly but rather slow. This is a place to come when you're looking for a laidback, relaxed Old School American breakfast/lunch joint.
We Tried:
- The #1: Pancakes, eggs and 2 sausages. The pancakes were nice and fluffy pancakes
- San Francisco omelette (bacon and cream cheese with homemade salsa) and a side of hash browns. So generous with the bacon! The cream cheese was interesting, but I'm not sure I'm completely sold on it belonging in an omelette. I was hesitant about trying the salsa on it, so I was thankful it came on the side. Although I'm not sure if it really went well together, the salsa by itself was great and had a nice kick of cilantro. The hash browns were crisp and nicely textured. Overall, I approve.
- Side of ham: 1 slice of thick-cut ham, browned on a stove. Very straight forward
The prices are a little high for such a modest establishment, but I'd much rather come here than IHOP. -

I was disappointed with this place. Was hoping for so much more. The whole plate of food was kinda of dry -- toast, eggs over medium, overdone hash browns, and average corned beef.

I always got a "Coffee & Cigarettes" vibe from this place, something that seemed like the 50's left behind. No doubt inside was like many other dinners decorated with Marilyn Monroe and Elvis images. Not in perfect condition but a decent set up. The meals are the same as Denny's but prices are high but when you get the food, you know where that extra cash went; real ingredients not processed. The service was really nice however, after we finished our server left for a good 20 minutes leaving us completed alone and unable to leave. As i debated leaving cash on the table and walking out we hailed down a server from the back and paid. The meal was amazing and was so big i could even finish. Tasted better than the same thing i get at Denny's or any other sit down joint; the slices of meat were thick cut not layered thin like served at Denny's. A quiet place to eat and talk.

This is your everyday cutsie coffee shop. Nothing really special. The prices sky rocketed after they filmed Fast and the Furious. Portions are NOT generous either.

This place is a gem in disguise. The reason that it looks old and stuck in the past is that it is frequently used by the film industry. Fast and Furious as well as Mad Men are some that have filmed here. My wife and I have eaten here many time and always feel like we're eating at one of my aunt's kitchen. We always feel at home and the owner/waitress, Yesenia, is always friendly and willing to engage in a short conversation. I've tried many of their breakfast dishes but now I'm stuck on the corned beef hash with eggs. My wife prefers the chilaquiles, which I find a bit spicy for my taste. The food is what you would expect from a place that does not try to lure in customers by their appearance, very good and plentiful. A down to earth breakfast at a place that has character.

Andy's is a great family owned cafe with fantastic diner food. Its not much to look at - the booths could use a refurbish - but that really doesn't matter. You go to Andy's for the food and the excellent service. I HIGHLY recommend their chorizo and eggs breakfast. served with hot, delicious tortillas. and ask for an extra serving of their homemade salsa and put it on top of everything! its fantastic!

Just What I Was Looking For!!!
It was just the other day that I was bitching to my boyfriend "where are all the diner style breakfast spots in LA! I'm so sick of stupid IHOP!!"
Lo and behold! Andy's coffee shop is exactly what I was looking for. As a former breakfast diner waitress in my (small) hometown, I have come to miss the EXTREEM casual breakfast haunt with thick pancakes and well cooked (not greasy) bacon.
We were on our way to the PCC swap and were needing an inexpensive yet satisfying breakfast. Not only is Andy's coffee practically next door to PCC, the service was fine, the food was delicious, and we were in and out in 30 min.
I will be back. -

Although Andy's Coffee Shop is only about 1 /12 blocks from PCC and I've passed by zillions of times I've never noticed this place until the other day and decided to see if they had a breakfast burrito, upon entering I thought I was in some old movie or something.
I'm not sure when this placed opened it's doors but it's definitely stuck in time, flashback to the 50's with 50's music playing on the radio, the wood paneled walls all covered in pictures of Elvis, Marilyn Monroe, and even Cantinflas ha,ha,ha also many others I have no idea who they are, oh and a nearly life sized cardboard cut out of Elvis now that's says classy!.
So I'm standing there a minute or so and nobody greets me nor says I'll be right with you, have a seat nothing so I seat myself and wait a couple more minutes before my waitress acknowledges me, she finally arrives and asks.
Waitress: Hello, May I get you some Coffee?
Pancho: No thank you, may I have a Diet Pepsi or Coke please!
Waitress: Which one would you prefer?
Pancho: Diet Pepsi, Thank you!
Waitress: We only have Diet Coke!
Pancho: * Silent thought, You Dumb @$& WHY?? do you ask what I prefer if you ONLY have ONE choice?, be nice, be nice OK Diet Coke please. Hijole! now I see why she's wearing a low cut top!
So I ordered the Andy's Breakfast Burrito with Bacon, 3-Eggs, Hash Browns and Cheese with a side of Beans.
Breakfast Burrito (Bacon) - http://www.yelp.com/bi... not the biggest burrito around and with a $6.75 price tag, well one good thing it's not overstuffed with potato's so also why it's smaller but I really don't like when some places just fill it with potato's I prefer a balance of ingredients, well but heavy on the bacon, but unfortunately this is one that has a limited amount of bacon pieces http://www.yelp.com/bi... with the added salsa they give you on the side it was OK but just OK. I was surprised though that the salsa was not bad, not great but for a coffee shop pretty good.
Beans - http://www.yelp.com/bi... was lacking any flavor, not that good but then I did not expect good beans from a place like this.
Food OK 3-Stars
Slacker Service (-) 1-Star

Filling a craving for a 50's breakfast diner for a 20 year old has proven elusive and tiring in Pasadena.
This quaint 49 person diner has been transferred away from Andy's pastime to a Hispanic run relatively expensive average breakfast place. Service was attentive, coffee was strong, but the lack of an English muffin and the large portion of beans and tortillas on the side of their omelettes made even this youngin' nostalgic for his American breakfast. Perhaps I should have opted for the corned beef hash, but at $15 it's quite a bit steeper than the $6 for 3 eggs I've longed to find daily near my home.
Not even the 50's Life magazine ads framed on the wall nor the classic boogy soundtrack can make me feel like I'm enjoying what my pop's did so long ago... -

Despite being located a few doors east of a recent restaurant success story (Daisy Mint) and a few doors west of a beloved local bookstore (Book Alley), Andy's doesn't seem to be a well-known establishment in Pasadena. That's okay with me, because it means street parking is easy as pie and I can get seated as soon as I walk in the door.
Service is warm and friendly; the atmosphere is low-key humble diner. The best part about Andy's is that breakfast is served all day. (The worst part about Andy's is that all day ends at 3pm, 1pm on Sundays.) The hashbrowns are killer good and they understand exactly what I mean when I ask for them "well-done". Pancakes are perfectly serviceable; eggs, bacon, and sausage are better than you'll get most places; and the only slight complaint is that the coffee is a tad watery for my tastes.
Unlike a lot of small diners, you can pay with a credit card, and there's a big bowl of free candy at the cash register - GOOD candy, too, like 3 Musketeers and 100 Grand mini-bars.
Free chocolate ALWAYS gets 5 stars.Listed in: Raindrops on roses and…, Pasadena: My Kind of Town

Pasadena, CA
One gray and drizzly morning, the Colombian and I decided to warm up with a nice hot breakfast. Seeing how crowded this old school shop was, I thought it would be an easy win. But I should've adjusted my expectations after seeing the waitress in flip flops.
Maybe a morning rush had just passed, but I noticed that most of the empty tables were left uncleaned. We were seated at a less greasy booth, but still greasy nonetheless.
When opening the dingy menus, I expected standard breakfast fare for your usual coffee shop prices -- maybe around the $7 range. But no, most of these dishes were well above $10! Are we no longer in a recession? I glanced around the outdated decor and hoped against hope that the prices equated to fresh and high quality food. It was like hoping that smell wasn't coming from the dead hooker under my bed.
The Boy gave in to his Latin instincts and ordered the Machaca plate. I was unnerved by the greasy air and stuck to something simple and hard to screw up - a fried egg sandwich.
Looking at our meal, I was sorely disappointed. My sandwich was pathetic; two fried eggs, some lettuce, and a slice of tomato were carelessly plopped inside an English muffin like tranny kids in a detention hall. No sides were provided.
Although the Boy's salsa was freshly made, his shredded beef was swimming in oil, and the refried beans were grossly inedible. This is saying a lot for a man who's vile gas often originates from the legume family. Sadly, I'd probably endure that (not that I have much of a choice) over another visit to this miserable establishment.

San Francisco, CA
Good ol' Andy's. My wife and I went here all the time in college yet I don't think I ever saw another Caltecher here. No surprise, though--it's a coffee shop in the truck-stop diner sense, not in the latte & mocha sense. The patrons seem to be mostly working class too, not a bunch of young smart-asses who want to feel "retro" (except me, but I was raised on places like this, so I knew how to blend in).
Obviously you can get good coffee and breakfasts here, but we mostly came for the cheeseburgers and potato salad. Cheap, simple, and satisfying. If you're a San Franciscan reading this and you like Westlake Coffee Shop or the Manor, give Andy's a try next time you're in Pasadena.Listed in: Yelp: The College Years

Service was OK, but even the dude behind the counter said they got slammed, so it'll let it partially slide.
the food was typical diner fare, although i've had much better....but for the price? pretty decent.
i actually liked the coffee....it gave me a HUGE caffeine buzz :)
overall, 3 stars...nothing too special here!!

Pasadena, CA
Ok, I had high expectations for this place. It looked like the coolest little place where you can sit for a nice long read of the newspaper over a cup of coffee. Now, it is this kind of place but the service isn't great. The waitress had to be flagged down every time my coffee cup got low - she never once asked if I needed some before I really did.
The portions were quite large. Can't complain about that but the food was just average. The pancakes were fluffy enough but nothing special - same for the eggs, just ok.
Would I go back? Maybe - it is nice and quiet and you can take your time in there but if you are looking for a quick breakfast, this is not the place to try. -

Pasadena, CA
I go to this place for the no-frills, basic breakfast items. Stick to the American-style items though. Really good bacon and they know how to cook an egg. Coffee is a little on the weak side as stated in other reviews, but good nonetheless.
However, the Mexican breakfast items are uninspiring and institutional-like in quality. The menudo was, or at least tasted like, it came out of a can. But then again if I wanted a Mexican breakfast, I would have gone to Ciro's or El Tepeyac. -

I used to work upstairs in the small office building adjoining Andy's. This place is one of those great standby's that never really changes and never disappoints. Their standard breakfast items are on point. Great eggs. I love how they do their Huevos Rancheros. Fried pork chop is a great seller there too. Lunch is standard burgers, sandwiches, and soups. Nothing to write home about, but consistently decent. Friendly faces and fair enough prices that you can eat there everyday.
3.5 stars for being a great diner. (I rounded it up on the rating for love :) -

Andy's Coffee Shop is a family run place serving American diner fare and some Mexican entrees. I passed by this place for years when I would drive out to Pasadena and never knew it existed.
I like the U-shaped counter and the milk glass mugs and dishes. I'm not too crazy about the lady sipping her coffee on the left side of the website. (So random) http://www.andyscoffee...
BUT
It's a real diner and that's why I like it. If I lived closer, I would come here on Sunday morning, get toast, eggs, and coffee and settle in until I went through my LA Times. -

I spotted Andy's after driving by a zillion times on busy Colorado Blvd. and finally checked it out. The inside is great because they've kept the original diner stools and booths and they've decorated with kitschy cardboard Elvis cutouts and Marilyn Monroe portraits.
It seems to be run by a family and the food is homey and hearty. There are your typical breakfast items, and there are some Mexican dishes on the menu as well. It's a great local spot for that "authentic" diner feel that's hard to come by these days.
As for the food, pretty average, but it's straightforward and easy to understand. Coffee shop. Diner food. Yep. -

The jury's still out on this one. I need to go back for some breakfast food. I tried the Hot Turkey Sandwich and it was just ok. It's a bit overpriced at $11.99 (you can get a better Hot Turkey Sandwich at Claim Jumper for cheaper during lunch). I must say though, they give you a TON of food.
This place reminds me of my mom's old coffee shop, right down to the coffee mugs. It brings back some nostalgia so I guess there is a place in my heart for this shop. It's just that the place is very small right now. -

When the hell does Pasadena wake up? I have been spending some time in Pasadena lately and it is a lovely town but it is hard to find anything that opens before 9am except for fast food places.
I was starving and came across Andy's. It is a very old school style coffee shop with a horseshoe shaped counter and booths along the wall.
They were having a special for eggs and chorizo so I ordered that and it came with a choice of flour or corn tortillas. I asked for one less egg then they normally use so the there was a better meat to egg ratio (I always do that everywhere...I don't need all the food anyways). It was good.
The coffee was good and the service was great. -

Pasadena, CA
As much as I like the vibe of the place, it comes down to the quality of the food. I had an omelette and pancakes - both of which were mediocre, at best. Like others have said, the coffee was really weak. Despite my sensitivity to caffeine, I barely felt its effects after 2 cups.
Still, I really liked the ambiance. From the pictures on the walls to the old-school tunes (e.g. Jackson 5 - I'll be there), a lot of tradition is bottled up in this place. It just really has that throwback feel, and you know it's authentic.
I'm sad to write this, but poor coffee and mediocre food will make me think twice before returning. -

Two fried eggs, toast and hashbrowns, just the way I like 'em. Perfectly cooked, all yummy. The coffee was really delicious (I drank too much and have been jittery all day). The ham was veiny and not appetizing, but that was my only problem. Service was OK-- the waitress was lovably forgetful. While she forgot some of our food, shepe seemed so friendly and apologetic that we wanted to give her the benefit of the doubt. I'd go back and try it again.
The price could have been lower, but I like how you can order sides. Makes it perfect for the picky eaters among us... -

Pasadena, CA
This is the kind of breakfast place I've been looking for in Pasadena...inexpensive, no long waits, good basic breakfast foods. Pasadena is the only town I've lived in without a lot of good breakfast places...maybe I just haven't found them yet? Don't know, but I woke up with a craving for breakfast on Sunday. Breakfast is my least favorite meal of the day, I usually just make myself a smoothie and chug that down before I head out, but every once in a while I need a real, hot breakfast.
I liked the coffee shop vibe of Andy's and lack of hipsters. It was mostly just local working folks, my kind of people. I had huevos rancheros, and it was quite tasty. Was it the best or most authentic huevos I've ever had? No, but it met my expectations. The eggs were fresh and cooked well, it had the nice crispy corn tortilla underneath and the sauce was pretty good. I got a side of salsa to spice it up a bit, and that was surprisingly good. The coffee is a bit weak, but I think that's a pretty normal coffee shop thing. Service was friendly and the prices are cheap. I'll be back the next time a breakfast craving strikes. -

Since I wrote my first review of Andy's, we have visited numerous times. . . we go pretty much once every week for breakfast or lunch. There's a reason we continue to go.
For example: today we visited for breakfast around 1:30 pm, and when we got there they were closing (we didn't know they closed at 1pm on Sundays). But, the owner saw us and told us to come on in anyway and they'd serve us. We thought that was really cool.
Also, we have tried several of their menu items now, and have found them all to be good. I especially like their soy chorizo and their chilaquiles.
Always good service, always good prices, and always tasty food. Andy's is our favorite restaurant in Pasadena.1 Previous Review: Show all »

I love Andy's! I come here for breakfast sometimes and I get the same great service every time. I love diners and unfortunately, there are a lot of places that categorize themselves as a "diner" when really it's just cheap, crappy food. Andy's Coffee Shop is a real diner. You walk in and are taken back to another time. There are people sitting around the counter drinking coffee, lots of booths, 50's music playing, and tons of black & white photos and old movie posters. I've only eaten breakfast here but it's always good. We're not talking high quality cuisine but it's a diner, what do you expect? :)
I love the atmosphere and the wait staff are always happy and very helpful. The place has a long history, I think it started in the 40's or something and you feel like you've stepped into the past. It's a great little place, I hope it stays around for a very long time. -

aw, i love andy's coffee shop. it just has a special place in my heart.
i try to come here when i don't have anywhere to rush off to because there are times when the wait is long (after being seated). but other than that, my food always comes out tasty and the people are friendly - even during a rush. those are two important points for me. i like that it has that quaint Andy Griffith show quality. like, i expect the town sherriff to walk through at any moment to sit down to a quick cup of coffee and a bowl of frosted flakes.
anyway, don't come here to be swept off your feet. they aren't in the business of doing that. they get really busy sometimes and maybe there will be 3 tables at a time that need bussing. but the food will be good. and if you aren't satisfied, i'm sure they'll be more than happy to fix it or get you something else you'll enjoy. they're nice like that. -

This is your usual neighborhood Mom & Pop cafe. No frills just old memorabilia on walls. My husband & I are regulars, I recently had the daily special that is posted on a small eraser board. It was called "The San Francisco" scrambled eggs with cream cheese & bacon. I couldn't imagine what it could taste like but I took the risk. It was delicious! Two other favorites are; soyrizo scramble & the pancakes.
