I wanted to try out the new Living Social online ordering system, and decided to get some take out from Andy's Chinese Cuisine.  The estimate was 25 minutes, for my food to be ready.  I showed up a few minutes early and the food was already nicely packaged and ready for pick-up.

The staff was very friendly and I really appreciated the fact that they double-boxed the food and double-bagged as well (as Chinese food tends to be greasy/saucy and can become a mess really quickly if incorrectly packaged).  My boyfriend and I ordered:

-Tomato beef noodles ($5.75):  This was much larger than I was expecting.  Noodles, with chunks of tomato, bell peppers and beef.  It was not overly saucy or spiced, but it was still flavorful.
-Potstickers ($4.50): 8 pieces; thèse don't really taste like any other pot stickers I've had before, but I still liked them.  They were wrapped with thin wraps and the filling tasted like it had cilantro in it.  The edges were nice and crisp and the dipping sauce was a little bit sweet too.
-Fortune cookies (free!): they use the panda-brand pre-packaged fortune cookies.  These don't have the best flavor, but I'm not picky.

Overall, the food was fairly tasty and the pricing is very fair (it can't really get any cheaper).  I wouldn't say it's "authentic," but who really cares- it still tastes pretty good.  The portion sizes are extremely generous and this was way more than enough food for my boyfriend and I- we even had leftovers.  So while it's not the best, it works and I may order take out or delivery again sometime.  (Delivery minimum is only $10.)  I liked that they included a take-out/delivery menu in the bag.

When this place first opened, it was the best in the city, beyond any doubt.  But it has since had some very dramatic ups and downs with regard to its quality.  Last time I tried - about a month ago - it was fairly disappointing.

Also, when delivering an order paid by credit or debit card, they still take an imprint of the entire face of the card, which has been outlawed in California.    I've pointed this out to them, yet they persist in doing it.  I don't think I'll be ordering from them again anytime soon.

This place isn't that good. I mean, it works in a pinch, but it's mediocre, really. I think the only reason why i keep coming back here is because they deliver, and sometimes the Sunset gets really cold and these guys come to my door.

There's a $15 minimum order for delivery, which is really easy to do. Don't get too fancy here, most of the dishes i've tried are either swimming in sauce, or look kind of funky. Go with the fried rice and walnut prawn, for sure. Anything else is your call.

The three stars is for the food that we ordered and got it delivered at home. Tried their salted porkchops . They were good and yummy.  They have tons of other good dishes and affordable so I will definitely have to give them another try .

I used to come here for mediocre lunch specials at best but now I go to Man Hing. Their food will give you what I describe as a "salt hangover" due to the amount they pour in their food. It hurts to eat it.  I can also tell none of their food is fresh, I mean it's obvious isn't it? They charge extra for rice and always ask you if you want it.

They are fast but the girls behind the counter are entitled little beasts that have terrible attitudes. They talk poorly about their customers and call them idiots in front of others. That's not appropriate for a business even though we all know customer service sucks.

We usually order Melisa's Chinese, but it was closed tonight so we ordered from Andy's and it was awful. The food was greasy and the chicken was rubbery. The rice was over cooked and they forgot to deliver the crepes w the Mu Shu Chicken. It then took them over 30 minutes to bring them to us when we called to notify them within less than 2 minutes of the original delivery. The overall experience was terrible - and instead of having left overs for lunch, we threw it all away. Don't waste your $, this place is a total thumbs down.

I feel bad giving 2 stars but there was a serious flaw here. I'll start with the good,

Delivery only took 30 minutes at 8:30 on a Thursday night. Minimum is a low $10. I ordered Vegetable Chow mein: delicious, low brow American-ized chow mein with plenty of veggies. Asked for them to make it spicy and oh my goodness that's all I can really taste!! Oh well, plenty of noodles and they came piping hot.

    Onto the not so good!
While browsing the extensive menu on http://grubhub.com I noticed Tan Tan Noodles... hmm that's interesting I think to myself, you don't see tan tan noodles very often. I'm a lifelong lover of peanut butter soy noodles so I ask them to omit the meat and make it spicy. I open the box and see a glop of peanut sauce and loads of vegetables. I stick a fork in it and reveal naked noodles underneath this mess. VERY strange! I take a bit of the naked noodles with a peanut butter laden water chestnut and yuck! the noodles are cold! I'm going to save this one for another day and see if the flavors improve/ it is better when I heat it up.

Oh did I tell you there were strands of long black hair tightly wound round a few of the noodles? Order Andy's at your own risk.

It's really funny that someone mentioned that you'd be better off going to Panda Express instead of here. Two days ago, I was craving Panda but my friend who is visiting wanted authentic Chinese food and after walking around the area, dragged me to Andy's.

The Hot & Sour soup came with our lunch specials and I didn't even try it. I could tell by the smell and look of it that it was not something I could force myself to eat since I swear by another place with fantastic Hot & Sour.

Then came our lunch plates. Huge plates with rice, orange slices and egg role. I got the Pineapple Beef and my friend got spicy eggplant. Her eggplant was pretty good, but the sauce on my beef looked like hair gel. I tasted a pineapple since it seemed like a safe thing to try and it didn't taste much like anything. The beef itself was a faint brown color and I didn't even try it due to how bad it looked. The egg roll was nothing special.
We also got chow mein and it was also pretty nasty.
The people next to us ordered seconds!!!!

I got everything to go and after leaving put the bag on some curb so some poor starving soul could at least eat something since I haven't touched it at all.

Needless to say I'm mad I wasted the money and didn't get my Panda. Never going here again.

They give you enough food for 3 meals.

Hot & Sour Soup 5.95: excellent in taste (must try!!!!)

Chicken Chow Fun 5.95: not so great, the noodles weren't separated very well so they were chunks of noodles stuck together and they could do much better on the seasoning or whatever.

A place to order when your budget isn't so deep and you want fast Chinese in *quanitiy*. You won't be hungry that's for sure.

Kind of a weird restaurant in that I rarely see anyone in there.  I think they are basically a take-out/delivery restaurant.  Overall the food was pretty uninspiring.  They used to have a sign saying they were voted best chow mein or something.  Don't believe it.

I won't eat here until they stop advertising through saturation mailings.

Saturation mailings are the pieces of  junk mail that  fill up all the mailboxes in the City because they are sent to every Current Resident with an address.  SO ANNOYING!!!

Andy - if you are going to send me junk mail, please do me the favor of putting my proper name on it so I can opt out.

A friend of ours recommended Andy's, so we dutifully ate here one night recently.  We ordered fried rice, sweet and sour pork, green onion pancake, and I honestly can't remember what else.  All the dishes were of average taste, and the onion pancakes were overcooked, and had no taste.  I have definitely had better.  The service was passable but not particularly friendly, and the decor was not interesting, except that a leaf landed on our friend from the real tree growing inside the place.  That at least was something to talk about.  At least the company was good, but I don't think I would want to come back when there are many more good Chinese restaurants in the Sunset District.

What can I say, the experience was ehh. My roommate and I were desperate for Chinese food on a Saturday Night and decided to go with Andy's after getting their menu in our mailbox. Let's start with the cons.... the first thing was that delivery took about an hour so be patient. The pot stickers were pretty bad, and in the war wonton soup, while the wontons were good, the broth was really salty. The friend rice with pork was average. I will say however that the positives were that the food arrived still pretty hot, it was inexpensive and the beef chow fun was really good. Would I go back there? Hard to say... maybe to get a few select items when I'm craving chinese food but need to watch my budget. Otherwise, I will continue my SF search for good Chinese in the neighborhood.

Borderline ok/not worth it. Tried them twice by delivery

Ordered Singapore Rice Noodles, Cashew Chicken, Crab Rangoon, Lemon Chicken....

Soggy and strange batter on the Lemon Chicken and the Crab Rangoon was just greasy and old and not cooked properly.

The Singapore rice noodle was not as fresh as it could be and it was bland. Zero flavor on the Cashew chicken..no sauce/flavor

I understand they have changed ownership recently according to other reviews and that it used to be better before. Sorry to say I probably won't spend my money here again.

I am the happiest person in the world once again! For the longest time me and my family have been looking for a great Chinese restaurant to eat at.

For my whole life me and my family have been eating at Ha's, which was located over in the outer sunset on 24th and Irving. They closed down almost 5 years ago and ever since then we have been on a quest to find the perfect place!

speed up 4 years later and we have finally found that place tonight. :D I will definitely be going here often!

won ton soup, sesame beef, house fried rice, the potstickers, prawns... just naming a few of my favorites!

I will never eat here again. It's too inconsistent. The first time I ate here it was great. The past 2 times have been so-so. I just got food from there and it was terrible. The noodles in my Deluxe Vegetable Chow Mein were over cooked and soggy, and it tasted like it had been sitting around awhile. The final straw was a MEAT potsticker in with my vegetable ones!!!! Come on man!

    NEVER AGAIN.

It's been 13 years since they're been voted top take-out place by the Bay Guardian.  I think leaving that on their take-out menu might be hurting their reputation?  Well, it wasn't enough to deter my BF and I from ordering.  Or it could have been because this was the only take-out menu he had at his place?

We ordered the BBQ pork fried rice, sweet and sour pork, and fried chicken nuggets with garlic.  You can't really go wrong with fried rice, although there were times, as I made my way down to the bottom of the container, where I thought it needed more flavor.  The sweet and sour pork, pass.  The pieces were soggy by the time they made it over.  Although the sauce for the fried nuggets was good, I didn't expect it to be so heavily battered like the sweet and sour pork.  This too came soggy and not fried-like.

Until my BF gets more delivery menu attached to his door or in his mail this will sadly be our desperate for food destination.

I am pleased to write that Andy's seems to have gotten a new chef who actually loves food so knows how to prepare it.  Mind you, I haven't tried everything (and probably never will) but the few dishes, old standards of mine, that I had last week were about 100% better then they've been for years.  The Kung Pao Chicken was actually nicely hot (but still had an overwhelming amount of onions and about 1/4 of the chicken bits were just the fat or skin).  And the dry fried beans were nicely spicy too.  I would say that the mixed fried rice is about the same (do they no longer put soy sauce in fried rice?) but I decided since the kung pao and the beans both were so spicy and garlicky and tasty, I'd chop both of those up into bite size pieces and mix them in with the fried rice--twas a good idea.  I hope the rest of the foods have improved as much as the kung pao has cause it would be nice to have a local Chinese restaurant where I can get tasty food again.

I've been getting Andy's take out for over 15 years and this is one of the most consistent restaurants I know.

Andy's noodle and rice dishes are good and solidly in the 3 star realm, but for me it is bumped up a bit because I know *precisely* how the food is going to taste.

I like Andy's chow fun, and when I get it, it tastes exactly how I remember it tasting from the last time I ordered it, the time before that, the time before that, the year before that, the decade before that.

It's good, and it's as reliable as the moon. And so, Andy, I count myself among your fans.

I've been going to Andy's ever since he opened the doors for business, so I've experienced the long, steady decline. Andy's has slipped from four stars to two. It would even be one if not for the kung pao chicken, which is still very good.

For the luncheon specials, the egg roll is cold and too oily. Broccoli chicken isn't a difficult dish to make, so why can't the broccoli be uniformly hot, or at least warm? One final complaint that should be an easy fix: the men's restroom is gross.

Back in the day Andy's was terrific. Now look. What a shame!

I've gotten delivery maybe a dozen times from Andy's and the speed at which they deliver + the quality of their cooking is consistent and good (enough).

I don't know about its past reputation, but as of 2011 the food they make is above average for chinese take-out -- which isn't saying much, but they do make a bona fide effort.

The other thing to note is that their menu is more diverse than that of average chinese delivery.

This place used to be good, we used to order from it fairly frequently- when it was owned by the first owners. Then they sold it, then my husband and I got the worst food poisoning of our entire lives. We were bedridden for an entire day except for the horror show happening in our bathroom.
I have not returned since and folks, I would seriously reconsidering before ordering their delivery. I was always bothered I didn't call the health department on their asses.

When it comes to go-to Chinese restaurants for me, well, I really don't have any, but if someone were to ask me what my go-to restaurant for chow fun is Andy's automatically pops into my head.  I love their dry fried beef chow fun (http://www.yelp.com/bi...).

I'm a fan of the noodle.  For me any noodle dish had better be full of noodles; otherwise, it just wouldn't satisfy me.  Andy's beef chow fun is basically eighty percent noodles, fifteen percent beef and five percent bean sprouts, green onions and scallions.  The ratio varies slightly from visit to visit but the numbers are close to what I described.  The noodles to meat ratio seems to climb especially with take out orders (http://www.yelp.com/bi...).

A few of the other dishes I've tried and like include their Salt and Pepper Pork Chops (http://www.yelp.com/bi...).  The cuts of pork are fairly lean and the sliced jalapenos with seeds included do give this dish the necessary pop that makes it flavorful.  The Chinese style Beef Stew (http://www.yelp.com/bi...) steamed in an earthen dish has a very authentic taste.  The star anise and five spice powder is quite prominent in the stew which combines big chunks of marbled beef brisket and various pieces of beef tendon served over a bed of iceberg lettuce.

Not everything served up at Andy's is great though.  From sampling items throughout their large menu I've learned to avoid any of their dishes involving deep fried batter.  Items like their fried calamari or their walnut prawns usually have way too much fried batter on the seafood.  The batter tastes oily too so I simply don't order those.

Recently I tried their potstickers (http://www.yelp.com/bi...) which are very average.  The thick outer skin is browned nicely but something just tasted off in the pork and vegetable filling.  The chow mein is pretty average too as they are less generous on the noodles as they are with the chow fun.

In truth Andy's is probably worthy of 3.5 stars, but I frequent the place so often that I just wouldn't feel right giving them anything less than 4 stars.  The service is fast, friendly and efficient, and if you live in the area (which I don't) they deliver.

My review starts like some sort of joke:

So a couple of Jewish guys drive into the Sunset looking for Chinese food on Christmas...

...we Yelp it and try to go to San Tung, doh huge wait. Plus we're Jewish boys so will we really appreciate the authentic cuisine on offer? Probably not. So we walk around a bit, find Andy's, look it up on Yelp... 3 stars.

Damn, well I read the reviews and figured out that if you're down with Americanized (though some might say bastardized) Chinese this place is actually a-ok. Fast forward 10 minutes and I'm chowing down on some spicy kung pao happy as a non-naughty kid on Christmas morn.

For basic Chinese at a light price (got out of here for $13 a head including tip) I recommend it, however I can't speak to the authenticity factor since I was just a lonely Jew on Christmas ( http://www.southparkst... ).

    Happy Holidays everyone!

To the owners of Andy's: If you want to keep your customers, you'd better try to cover your asses and admit it when you make a mistake. If there's pork in the H&S (which is usually a veggie soup) it had better state so on the menu.

Gross. Menu does not specify that Hot & Sour soup has pork in it. I ordered the Hot & Sour and vegetarian egg rolls for take-out and was so disappointed when I got home and found that my soup was not kosher. Even if I did eat pork, I certainly would not find the little gray bits of meat floating in my soup at all appetizing. It looked like brain matter.

I called Andy's hoping they'd take care of the situation quickly and calmly, but I had to argue with the lady on the other end of the phone until they decided to appease my request to have it swapped for the vegetarian of the soup. They said 30-40 minutes for the new soup to be delivered, which was over an hour ago and I'm still waiting.

The egg rolls were good, tasting a bit like cinnamon. My friend, Shalimar got Crab Rangoon which she said tasted like KFC (interpret that on your own). Don't think I'll order here again. Andy's, you lost me.

When you call you will likely be greeted with what sounds like a "telethon" going on in the background. It's entertaining. I've been put on hold for a few secs, but never too long. The staff is thorough about getting your order, address and payment info and they generally repeat everything back.

Delivery is ridiculously fast sometimes and I'm always greeted by someone friendly and efficient. About 25 mins usually.

The food! How is the food you ask? It's good! I mean it's not the best Chinese food I've had in my life, but for the convenience and price it's a great value.

    Specifics?
    - Fried rice: Excellent. Fluffy and flavorful. Keeps well!
    - Kung Pao Chicken: Ok. Tasty, but a bit too much filler.
    - String Beans: Meh.. Soggy. Doesn't travel well?
    - Mongolian Beef: Way to much filler! Would be good otherwise.

Ok and finally, what is the deal with the food coming with no extras?! No chopsticks, no napkins, and no soy sauce. I sit down to gobble this stuff down and then realize I have to get up for all of this junk. Am I just lazy?

    Well, this was not good.

Lately I have had a craving for sweet and sour pork, so I ordered it for delivery.

About a third of the meat cubes tasted old, like every few bites was funky tasting.

If I was in the restaurant I would have sent this dish back.

I ended up tossing it. Being sick from eating bad pork is not my thing.

Very disappointing because I've had a lot of good meals from Andy's and I hate to see them falling back on that old trick of using less than fresh meat in sweet and sour pork.

But, because of that one bad dish, I found a Chinese delivery restaurant I like so much better, with much faster delivery and consistently great food, Tsing Tao on Clement.

Last night I had a craving for Chinese. Usually I can satiate it with some kind of Asian cuisine, usually in the form of Ploy II or Best of Thai Noodle. Last night, though, I wanted Chinese - the sauce, the rice, that incredibly full, bloated feeling, the saltiness - the experience we have all come to know and love. So, since I had Andy's menu in my kitchen, I called them up.

The verdict: never again. Awful. Nothing about the meal, including the ALL FAT roast duck and the bland mu shu (the boy had to actually throw it in the wok & fry it up with some more sauce) could salvage the meal.  Dude, I have whipped up far more edible Asian inspired food from a pack of frozen veggies, chicken and rice from Trader Joe's than this crap.  Seriously, very, very bad.

Christmas, what's open? San Tung! We arrive, 1 hour 30 minute wait. The cold walk beings. We walk 3 everlasting blocks and finally arrive... BE HOLD Andy's Chinese! With a 8 foot snow man in the front window greeting us as we walk-in and say hello. We get seated right in the front, they must like us.

Initially the 3-star overall rating from my iphone app + the "ghrimps" and "dumpings" that are misspelled on the menu start adding up in my head. I'm worried now. Expectation are low.

We ordered: kung-pao, walnut chicken in peking sauce, eggplant in schezwan sauce, moo-sho chicken, and hot and sour soup.

The food was excellent and the service was with a smile.

I cannot complain. $15 per person, happiness for all.

I had a hankering for some chowmein the other day that just wouldn't quite. We were in the neighborhood getting a take out salad from Plutos and decided to swing in here for a little take out. I ordered the Chicken Chowmein to go. Only $6.50 including tax. Not bad! When I opened the HUGE to go box, it was CRAMMED with chowmein. As in, overflowing with noodles. In fact, the box was so full, I couldn't even get the noodles out to eat them.
The flavor was decent and the chicken was plentiful. But it really wasn't that good. The noodles were a lot larger than I like with chowmein and it was really ONLY noodles with chicken pieces. Nothing else.
On the plus side, you get a lot for what you pay for here. The downside is that it's just not that good of food.

Had a nice little get-together at home last night with some good friends, candles, and a lot of wine.  Great conversation and fun times.  Anyway, one of them had ordered take-out from this place and brought it over for us which was really nice.

The kung pao chicken was extremely hot and spicy and we were all sweating after eating it.  Kung pao chicken seems different everywhere you go, so this may be good or bad depending on what you're into.  I was surprised to see jalapenos and the instant I saw them, I just knew it was going to be hot.  The chicken pieces were pretty small and there should have been a lot more of it, but as another Yelper wrote, "what little chicken was in there was good."  All in all, it tasted good over the steamed rice.  The peanuts weren't too hard and had nice flavor too.

The mongolian beef was okay.  Nothing to write home about, but at least with this dish, unlike the kung pao, it had large pieces of meat.

I didn't eat the fried rice as I don't do fried rice, but it looked pretty average and mediocre.

If you take it for what it is, it's about what you'd expect.  If I had to get food from them again, I would definitely get the kung pao chicken as that's what I liked best.  I liked Andy's more than some of the other chinese restaurants in the sunset, but not as much as my favorite...Wo's Restaurant on Judah St.  Whoa...now that's some good food! :)

File this one under hit and miss.

On Saturday I had a few bites of Eric F's. takeout from Andy's. The tomato chow mein and kung pao chicken were both awesome; crispy, fresh vegetables and juicy and flavorful meat.

Tonight I ordered some for myself and nothing tasted quite right. Fried rice was really bland and the potstickers seemed to be constructed of leather.

I think next time I want Chinese from a joint with a WASP-y name I'll call Melissa's or drive down to Eric's.

If you like good dim sum, DO NOT EAT HERE.

Seriously, the dim sum was so bad - I'm guessing it's frozen.  We ordered the shrimp, shu mai, and dragon rolls - they all tasted terrible, and the shrimp was still slightly frozen in the middle.

I've eaten here for lunch on a few occasions and their rice plates are pretty good, but nothing spectacular.  At least it comes out hot and cooked, unlike the dim sum.  So, if you go, play it safe and just get the regular Chinese fare.  Your stomach will thank you for it.

As far as take out Chinese food goes Andy's is one of the best, quick service, they get your order right most of the time and the food isn't to greasy and you usually get a decent meal, oh and the price is right.

Andy's is now in my phone so I can call them on my way home from work and I know it will be there just as i am getting home. Always reliable, never gets you sick should be their slogan :)

They sell and deliver six packs for a decent price (soda, mind you)
    What? I don't have a car

    My past few orders =
Two six packs of diet coke and the cream cheese crab wonton appetizer things..... but they can't even get that right. How can filling for fried wontons be runny??? --shivers--

    fyi:
salt and pepper pork chops = ew
chow mein = greasy, oily, nasty mess
beef and broccoli = bland, runny, salty, and just... gross
general tsao's chicken = sweet sticky disgusting waste of chicken

The only thing they're good for is the six packs.

I'm surprised by all the negative reviews of this place because I am a super picky person when it comes to Chinese Food and I love this place.  Every time I've eaten here I've had tasty experience.  This is the only place I call when I want chinese take out.  I've never actually eaten there and I can guess that people who have haven't been impressed with the decor.  Its definitely a take out kinda place.
What to try if you go:
*Vegetable moo-shu, the best, almost comparable to Eric's on Church
    plus they have brown rice.
    *Vegetable cashew dish - amazing
    * Pot stickers - yum
*My bf loves the egg rolls & chicken pecan dish
    *Veggie buns
    And they don't use MSG

My advice give it a try but order takeout
