I'm surprised by all the negative reviews of this place because I am a super picky person when it comes to Chinese Food and I love this place. Every time I've eaten here I've had tasty experience. This is the only place I call when I want chinese take out. I've never actually eaten there and I can guess that people who have haven't been impressed with the decor. Its definitely a take out kinda place.
What to try if you go:
*Vegetable moo-shu, the best, almost comparable to Eric's on Church
plus they have brown rice.
*Vegetable cashew dish - amazing
* Pot stickers - yum
*My bf loves the egg rolls & chicken pecan dish
*Veggie buns
And they don't use MSG
My advice give it a try but order takeout
We were visiting at St. Mary's Hospital and decided to order food for our dinner. The nurses lent us their take-out menu for Andy's and we figured, why not go with what they've tried out before. But when we called Andy's and told them to deliver at St. Mary's, they had to ask the address, which we found strange. Hmmm, maybe the delivery guy depends on GPS...
Anyway, it took them 45 minutes to deliver and the food was just okay. We ordered the salted fish and chicken fried rice, prawns with red chili sauce and deep fried ginger chicken. We were satisfied with the serving sizes. But, I found it weird that their fried rice had big pieces of cabbage.
All in all, it's not bad but if you have other choices, go for them.
Thumbs WAY down.
It's the three strike and your out method......
Last time I ordered from here I got the kung pao chicken and it was soooooo wok burnt that all the peanuts were scorched the dish was horrible. I had to toss the whole order.
Tonight I got the fried garlic hot wings........ how do you say shit--tay! Tasteless soggy wings are not what I had in mind.. :/
Chow mein smelled and tasted rotten, WTF? Let's just say that I will never order from this place again..
To top things off, the driver shows up with my credit card slip that he had already tried to give himself a $5 tip on, he said that he gave somebody else the wrong ticket to sign....Bull SHITE!!
Never again...with San tung right down the road, it is a MUCH better choice..
My boyfriend and I order delivery from Andy's on a fairly regular basis. We love the orange chicken and the walnut prawns. The chow mein is nothing to write home about. The delivery is typically about 30-40 minutes. It's a good stand-by when we don't want to leave the house.
Well, this was not good.
Lately I have had a craving for sweet and sour pork, so I ordered it for delivery.
About a third of the meat cubes tasted old, like every few bites was funky tasting.
If I was in the restaurant I would have sent this dish back.
I ended up tossing it. Being sick from eating bad pork is not my thing.
Very disappointing because I've had a lot of good meals from Andy's and I hate to see them falling back on that old trick of using less than fresh meat in sweet and sour pork.

Really good Chinese, decent price. What isn't there to like?
Its also super close to the light rail stop, so if you are without car don't fret, just jump on the muni!
I've only eaten here once or twice, but haven't been here for 2 years. It's not that Andy's is bad, it's just that SF has so many other places to go eat!
I got their tomato beef, and I've been wanting to learn how to make it ever sense! It was really flavorful! Their prices are very affordable/cheap. I got their fried crispy noodles before, which were ok but I really can't remember it much. The service was great though... i mean how can it not when there's not that many customers there. =P
It's a cheap eat if you're looking for a quick good stop. parking can be difficult around the Irving area though, but if you go around 6pm it shouldn't be too bad.
I havent been to this area in a very long long time and there were so many restaurants to choose from and they had several types of restaurants like American, Chinese, Vietnamese,Thai, Korean, Japanese, Italian, and many many more...So I had picked Andy's Chinese Cuisine, I remember when I went passing by the one that they had at 2401 Polk Street... But I have never thought about going to the one on 9th Avenue on Judah Street as I got inside to this chinese restaurant... I ordered myself one of my favorites from the menu and that would be the Salted Fish W/ Diced Chicken Over Fried Rice of all the other chinese restaurant in which I have eaten this item before... After when i finished eating the Salted Fish W/ Diced Chicken Over Fried Rice at Andy's Chinese Cuisine I have to say Andy's Chinese Cuisine makes it really really gooooooood!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I've been ordering delivery from Andy's for years. As of late, the last year or so, they are completely a hit or miss on the quality and consistency of their food.
Last night for instance, when I ordered, I told the lady taking the order that I had not enjoyed the Walnut Prawns the last 2 or 3 times. It had no sauce, the breading was soggy and falling off the prawns and everything is all stuck together and a big mass. They also did not include Chinese mustard for my egg rolls, after I specifically mentioned it to the order taker, who quite frankly seemed completely disinterested in my comments.
For $11.95 per order, it needs to be perfect. There are thousands of
great Chinese restaurants in my neighborhood that I'm sure would love to have my business (outer Richmond District).
I believe that I will need to take my business elsewhere from now on....
Anyone have any suggestions for outer Richmond Delivery????
Friend: You look stressed.
Me: I don't know what to get.
Friend: I'll pick for you!
Me: No.
And that is how I wound up with the Tomato Beef Chow Mein, which tasted a lot like Ketchup Pasta (a gourmet dish I co-invented at the tender age of 8, before I knew about http://epicurious.com). It was kind of awesome. I would order it again (despite the strangeness of texture in the beef), because my body houses an unholy, inexplicable love of ketchup and its Valhalla of cooking ingredient possibilities. If ketchup chow mein is wrong, then I don't wanna be right.
We also had fried oysters, which were gross enough that I ended up shredding off the breading and just eating the oyster within. I do this with a lot of deep-fried foods, though, so it's not too terrible of a strike against Andy's. Friend ordered Walnut Prawns, which are hard to do poorly, but which made me ill anyway. My tummy does not do well with the deep-fried, even though I long to consume all deep-fried goods day in, day out, on a plane, in the rain, in a tub, on a hub, ad nauseum, ad infinitum. I feel that I've lost track of this review. Are you with me?
We ate it all family-style, which is the only way to eat Chinese. Honestly, wouldn't you rather have a few bites off of everyone's plate rather than an entire plate of just one dish? In reality I just like eating off others' plates. It tastes better. Trust.
It's not the best Chinese, but the service is fantastically cheerful, which means a lot to me. I have gotten delivery from here twice, and their drivers are also very nice. And very fast!
So I've been eating Andy's for like 4 years now, and like any long term relationship there have been some good times, some bad times, and a lot in between.
First off, when Andy's is on,they've got some of the fucking best Kung Pao chicken you're likely to find in this part of the city. I'm serious, they put jalapenos, scallions, and peanuts in that bad boy and you're in love. They have some friggin tasty ass BBQ'd pork buns that are actually kinda fun to eat. The Chow Mein is consistently solid, and now they serve brown rice, which is good and good for you I'm told.
Sometimes there are bad patches. I've had chicken from 'em that was best described as more fat than meat and greasier than John Travolta's hair. Seriously, I've had like 2 or 3 meals from them that made me consider swearing them off.
So, as far as restaurants go, they are worth the effort of trying more than once, but they are definitely fallible and can make you regret a decision.
To the owners of Andy's: If you want to keep your customers, you'd better try to cover your asses and admit it when you make a mistake. If there's pork in the H&S (which is usually a veggie soup) it had better state so on the menu.
Gross. Menu does not specify that Hot & Sour soup has pork in it. I ordered the Hot & Sour and vegetarian egg rolls for take-out and was so disappointed when I got home and found that my soup was not kosher. Even if I did eat pork, I certainly would not find the little gray bits of meat floating in my soup at all appetizing. It looked like brain matter.
I called Andy's hoping they'd take care of the situation quickly and calmly, but I had to argue with the lady on the other end of the phone until they decided to appease my request to have it swapped for the vegetarian of the soup. They said 30-40 minutes for the new soup to be delivered, which was over an hour ago and I'm still waiting.
The egg rolls were good, tasting a bit like cinnamon. My friend, Shalimar got Crab Rangoon which she said tasted like KFC (interpret that on your own). Don't think I'll order here again. Andy's, you lost me.
I had a take-out order of Chicken Chow Mein for $5.95 and Singapore Style Rice Noodle with Curry Sauce for $6.95. I found both dishes rather dry and bland. However, the good things were that the chow mein wasn't as greasy as it may be at other restaurants, and that the Singapore Noodles had a variety of ingredients in it -- chicken, bbq pork, shrimp, egg, curry. Great prices for the amount you get, extensive menu, but average quality of food.
Do not eat here if you don't want to be washing the fart marks outta your underwear the next day!
Ow! Hurt my butt so bad! I don't know what they did :/
My review starts like some sort of joke:
So a couple of Jewish guys drive into the Sunset looking for Chinese food on Christmas...
...we Yelp it and try to go to San Tung, doh huge wait. Plus we're Jewish boys so will we really appreciate the authentic cuisine on offer? Probably not. So we walk around a bit, find Andy's, look it up on Yelp... 3 stars.
Damn, well I read the reviews and figured out that if you're down with Americanized (though some might say bastardized) Chinese this place is actually a-ok. Fast forward 10 minutes and I'm chowing down on some spicy kung pao happy as a non-naughty kid on Christmas morn.
For basic Chinese at a light price (got out of here for $13 a head including tip) I recommend it, however I can't speak to the authenticity factor since I was just a lonely Jew on Christmas ( http://www.southparkst... ).
Happy Holidays everyone!
Christmas, what's open? San Tung! We arrive, 1 hour 30 minute wait. The cold walk beings. We walk 3 everlasting blocks and finally arrive... BE HOLD Andy's Chinese! With a 8 foot snow man in the front window greeting us as we walk-in and say hello. We get seated right in the front, they must like us.
Initially the 3-star overall rating from my iphone app + the "ghrimps" and "dumpings" that are misspelled on the menu start adding up in my head. I'm worried now. Expectation are low.
We ordered: kung-pao, walnut chicken in peking sauce, eggplant in schezwan sauce, moo-sho chicken, and hot and sour soup.
The food was excellent and the service was with a smile.
I cannot complain. $15 per person, happiness for all.
Meh. Skip it.
I've had better Chinese food in Connecticut.
(I got the chicken chow mein, beef and broccoli, and hot and sour soup (aka swamp water).)
As far as the food goes--the portion sizes are decent, the tastiness adequate. The orange chicken can get a little fierce...it's pretty spicy. After eating it, I felt like a baby alien was about to tear out of my stomach. I don't hold it against Andy's, though. Chinese food and indigestion have a long and sordid history with me.
I've never been to the restaurant, but my coworkers and I get Andy's delivered periodically. The drivers are friendly and they come pretty quickly. They will also deliver just about anywhere in the city.
Andy's is okay for what it is: fast and cheap Chinese food. It's a welcome change when my coworkers and I get bored of our usual Chinese delivery.
Perhaps the worst delivery Chinese food I've ever had.
Even the rice was terrible. And we are not that fussy.
Service - (teetering hand)
Tomato Beef Chow Mein - sweet, smokey, and something missing
the feature: Avocado egg rolls - Avocado and BEANS (WTF?!), fried...oooh the cuisine of it all...
didn't even eat the whole measly 6 pieces...just two...and I ate the second piece because when I ate the first piece, I said WTF, then thought I was just tired that something fried could be SO DISAPPOINTING.
One star for cleanliness
1/2 star for service and 1/2 for offering wine.
I know it's Americanized...but there are good Americanized Chinese food places out there.
In order to understand how good andy's really is,
you must:
order as take out, don't dine in
salt and pepper pork chops
and
the chicken chow fun
+ side of rice
guaranteed delicious.
As far as take out Chinese food goes Andy's is one of the best, quick service, they get your order right most of the time and the food isn't to greasy and you usually get a decent meal, oh and the price is right.
Andy's is now in my phone so I can call them on my way home from work and I know it will be there just as i am getting home. Always reliable, never gets you sick should be their slogan :)
Very good chinese food with quick delivery in a fairly wide area. I'm not convinced of the claim printed on their menu for "The best Kung-Pao in San Francisco", but they are certainly in the running.
Every dish I've ordered from them has been hot, well cooked, and enjoyable. Their potstickers are notably perfect and tasty.
Andy's is one of my two favorite chinese restaurants for delivery.
They also accept orders via http://www.delivery.com with no delivery charge, which is a huge bonus when ordering food for a small group.
Now I know why San Tung down the street is so crowded. It's place like Andy's that keeps the customers running there ... even with that long line. After my 1st ... and LAST ... dining experience at Andy's, I will gladly endure anything NOT to go back there.
I order the beef stew, which had no beef in it, and when I mentioned this small oversight to the waitress, she replied flatly, "Oh yeah, the beef stew has no REAL beef in it" as if I was suppose to understand what that meant.
The prawns in "Andy's special sauce", which basically tasted like just a plain ole sweet & sour, was deep fried in batter so thick, I couldn't differentiate the prawn from the batter.
There's definitely a reason why this places is always empty.
It's raining. You are feeling lazy. Feels like a good day to roll the dice.
You could end up with a fresh, tasty meal or you could end up with food that looks (tastes?) like the old dish sponge your roommate keeps leaving in the sink. Hit or miss.
ASSUMING the place is serving edible food that day:
Kung Pao Chicken
Fried Carb, I Mean, Crab Cheese Puffs
Walnut Shrimp
Mixed Fried Rice
Mongolian Beef
Wow, when they are on, they are great, plus the price is nice. But I don't get too experimental because every third or fourth time I have ordered, it's back to the sog and the short-change on the portions.
Biggest Gripe: I am ~75% vegetarian which means I only really eat meat when I know it's of quality. So if I order a vegetable-based dish I "generally expect vegetables" because that is what I LIVE on. Andy's like many other restaurants these days, will totally shade you on the veggies.
Typical mixed vegetable dish, it's 99% cabbage and one lonely carrot slice & a mushroom, the rest is sauce. Or, their interpretation of Broccoli w/Garlic Sauce: the four raggedy pieces of broccoli that arrived in the lagoon of garlic sauce were so overcooked they turned yellowish brown. ick. And it's not like veggie dishes these days are inexpensive, per se.
Is it just the delivery? I keep their menu around for when I am absolutely desperate and have lowered my standards enough to accept the possible disappointment. And sometimes it turns out okay ...
ah by day 3 the take out is much better.
five stars.

i give them 4 stars simply for the walnut prawn plate on the dim sum menu. TRY IT. its amazing. the walnuts are fresh, the prawns are huge and juicy and melt in your mouth... and there's this sweet white sauce on it that i can't even describe, it's like nothing i've ever had but it's AMAZING.
the chow mein was great, fresh big colorful veggies, and other things from the dim sum menu were great too.
i love it. only thing is, they need some freakin color or art on their walls. it's pretty bare in there.
Of all the Chinese places in my neighborhood that I order take out from, I finally have settled on Andy's.
OK. I'm no expert on Chinese food, but in my books I like them because:
1. Food is not greasy, overly spiced, overly cooked or overly oiled
2. Their Salt & Pepper Ribs are a guilty pleasure with a beer
3. They say 45 mins for home delivery and I've always gotten my order in 20 mins max
4. Friendly staff at the restaurant and the delivery folks
I'm a happy camper. If quick, cheap and non-greasy Chinese take out is what you're after, call Andy's.
My wife and I were in the neighborhood and hungry for a bite to eat. We didn't have much time to spare and came across this cleverly titled restaurant "Andy's". But I never judge a business by it's title so we gave it a shot. We were promptly greeted by a Chinese fellow (we'll call him Andy) with a God-awful bluetooth slab on his ear. They took our order promptly as well.
Andy was not the most alert fellow, as within three minutes of taking our order he returned to ask if we had already ordered. Also, another customer who left came in after a few minutes to use the bathroom, and Andy blocked his path and ever so courteously asked if he would like to be seated and to order food.
A few words about the decor, which we tried to ignore as we waited for the food: Looks like the owner decided to go with the contemporary abstract art look, but at a fraction of the funding. Odd shaped hanging lamps over the tables, a bench-style layout for seats, hues of green (from cadillac olive to constipation spinach), walls that weren't completely plastered/finished and mirrors in strange locations. Of course, this would be comical to me and not so important for a casual lunch if the food was fantastic.
The food was not fantastic. They forgot about my order and I had to wait a few minutes longer as Andy screamed in Cantonese at a young man from the kitchen. There's also a strange ingredient consistent in the sweet and sour pork and mongolian beef: I'm not sure what it is, but it's black, small, and clingy. We think it's burnt pieces of food from pots and pans that weren't cleaned properly. Alas, we never asked so this ancient chinese secret remains, at least at Andy's. The food was otherwise greasy and untasteful. The after-guilt of sitting down and ordering is a bad impression indeed.
Later my wife's stomach felt sick and I longed for a refund and antibiotics.
Andy has a large poster displayed on his front window, asking that customers vote for this place as one of the nation's top 100 Chinese restaurants. Andy, I highly advise you reconsider leaving that poster there. Also, you might consider trading in your cell phone technology for a little wall plaster, better employees, and a course in cooking and cleaning.
Had a nice little get-together at home last night with some good friends, candles, and a lot of wine. Great conversation and fun times. Anyway, one of them had ordered take-out from this place and brought it over for us which was really nice.
The kung pao chicken was extremely hot and spicy and we were all sweating after eating it. Kung pao chicken seems different everywhere you go, so this may be good or bad depending on what you're into. I was surprised to see jalapenos and the instant I saw them, I just knew it was going to be hot. The chicken pieces were pretty small and there should have been a lot more of it, but as another Yelper wrote, "what little chicken was in there was good." All in all, it tasted good over the steamed rice. The peanuts weren't too hard and had nice flavor too.
The mongolian beef was okay. Nothing to write home about, but at least with this dish, unlike the kung pao, it had large pieces of meat.
I didn't eat the fried rice as I don't do fried rice, but it looked pretty average and mediocre.
If you take it for what it is, it's about what you'd expect. If I had to get food from them again, I would definitely get the kung pao chicken as that's what I liked best. I liked Andy's more than some of the other chinese restaurants in the sunset, but not as much as my favorite...Wo's Restaurant on Judah St. Whoa...now that's some good food! :)
Yeah, "meh" pretty much sums it up. I'm not such a fan of this place. I started going there every once in a while and found the food to be generally serviceable but rather bland using seemingly poor quality ingredients and definitely not made with love. But then I kept getting disappointed with the quality of the food and I eventually stopped eating there. Here's a rundown of a couple of the dishes:
-the egg rolls are OK.
-the steamed pork bun appetizer is basically inedible.
-the "famous" kung pao chicken is nothing special and the chicken pieces are kind of rubbery. Thumbs down.
-the beef and broccoli is just OK.
-one day I thought I'd mix it up a little bit and order the mango chicken. God was that ever a mistake! I opened up the box and found a soggy pile of deep fried batter swimming in a gooey, sweet orange colored sauce of some kind. There was probably chicken hidden away in there somewhere but I didn't stick around to find out...... it went straight into the trash.
Does that sound kind of mean? Yeah maybe but whatever, you live by the Yelp and die by the Yelp.
Not sure how this was once voted the best chinese cuisine in the city. Besides the fact that the menu consists of very generic, non-chinese friendly, dishes, it's located on 9th and Irving. Sure location may not matter, but when you only have maybe 2 other chinese restaurants to compete with, the bar isn't set very high. Go to Stockton, Clement, Noriega, outer Irving, now THERE'S some competition.
With that said, this place is awesome if you want chinese food delivered. The food always shows up hot and the prices aren't THAT bad.
The other night I ate there with my girlfriend since we were in the area. NOT a good experience. The hostess was by far the most friendly and professional. It seems like everyone else there couldn't care less about their patrons. The chefs and waiters are LOUD AS SHIT in the back. We could hear them the entire time laughing and chatting it up in the back. I swear Andy's Chinese Bar is right behind that back door. We ordered about 4 items. TWO of them went straight to the wrong table consecutively. It might not have happened if the waiter spent more time concentrating on his customers rather than thinking of the next witty thing to say to his friends in the kitchen. Considering how much they're charging for the food and service, cuisine is hardly the word to describe the atmosphere.
Overall, decent food, great delivery, but don't expect a wonderful time if you sit down.
When you call you will likely be greeted with what sounds like a "telethon" going on in the background. It's entertaining. I've been put on hold for a few secs, but never too long. The staff is thorough about getting your order, address and payment info and they generally repeat everything back.
Delivery is ridiculously fast sometimes and I'm always greeted by someone friendly and efficient. About 25 mins usually.
The food! How is the food you ask? It's good! I mean it's not the best Chinese food I've had in my life, but for the convenience and price it's a great value.
Specifics?
- Fried rice: Excellent. Fluffy and flavorful. Keeps well!
- Kung Pao Chicken: Ok. Tasty, but a bit too much filler.
- String Beans: Meh.. Soggy. Doesn't travel well?
- Mongolian Beef: Way to much filler! Would be good otherwise.
Ok and finally, what is the deal with the food coming with no extras?! No chopsticks, no napkins, and no soy sauce. I sit down to gobble this stuff down and then realize I have to get up for all of this junk. Am I just lazy?
They sell and deliver six packs for a decent price (soda, mind you)
What? I don't have a car
My past few orders =
Two six packs of diet coke and the cream cheese crab wonton appetizer things..... but they can't even get that right. How can filling for fried wontons be runny??? --shivers--
fyi:
salt and pepper pork chops = ew
chow mein = greasy, oily, nasty mess
beef and broccoli = bland, runny, salty, and just... gross
general tsao's chicken = sweet sticky disgusting waste of chicken
The only thing they're good for is the six packs.
I always passed Andy's Chinese Cuisine on my way to and from work while sitting on the N-Line. I finally had an opportunity to check out this restaurant. We ordered the sweet and sour pork, vegetable fried rice, vegetable chow mien, wonton soup, kung pao chicken and steamed pork buns. Yeah yeah yeah! I know, we ordered "white people" Chinese food. Hate me or love me!
I thought the food was great. The people offer great customer service and the vegetables were fresh. Also, they did not drench the food in fat and grease like most Chinese restaurants do in SF. What topped it off was the fact that they do not charge an arm and a leg for their entrees! Isn't that how it should be with Chinese food? I love getting cheap food that is great quality!
Now it's time to grab some coffee to work off my food coma and get ready to party. Yelp on my friends!
Ordered there two more times. Good food still but delivery time is AWFUL
The guy on the phone says 45 min for delivery but ithas taken at least an hour twenty

Umm, are you kidding me, this place actually thinks they can get away with putting lettuce in the bottom two inches of your box of food so it looks full, but you're actually getting way less food then any other place gives you. I'm sorry, that is just too much for me. The food itself (what you get of it) is mediocre, not horrible but definitely nothing you'll be running back for. But the issue is they are kind of cheating you with the BS filling at the bottom of the box. Give me a break. Any these charge too much for the quality, this place should be cheap given the food. If you want Chinese in this area walk 2 blocks down Irving and go to San Tungs.
Last night I had a craving for Chinese. Usually I can satiate it with some kind of Asian cuisine, usually in the form of Ploy II or Best of Thai Noodle. Last night, though, I wanted Chinese - the sauce, the rice, that incredibly full, bloated feeling, the saltiness - the experience we have all come to know and love. So, since I had Andy's menu in my kitchen, I called them up.
The verdict: never again. Awful. Nothing about the meal, including the ALL FAT roast duck and the bland mu shu (the boy had to actually throw it in the wok & fry it up with some more sauce) could salvage the meal. Dude, I have whipped up far more edible Asian inspired food from a pack of frozen veggies, chicken and rice from Trader Joe's than this crap. Seriously, very, very bad.
Firstly, I am not Chinese and I do not like traditional Chinese food. I have forced myself to eat it on numerous occasions when dining out with my close Chinese friends and their families.
When jellyfish salad, chicken feet, and shrimp with melon and mayonaise won't cut it....
And I am in the mood for some beef chow fun, sauteed mixed vegetables, and fried rice...
They do authentic Americanized Chinese food just the way I like it.
File this one under hit and miss.
On Saturday I had a few bites of Eric F's. takeout from Andy's. The tomato chow mein and kung pao chicken were both awesome; crispy, fresh vegetables and juicy and flavorful meat.
Tonight I ordered some for myself and nothing tasted quite right. Fried rice was really bland and the potstickers seemed to be constructed of leather.
I think next time I want Chinese from a joint with a WASP-y name I'll call Melissa's or drive down to Eric's.
