The fish is always fresh. They can be obscenely expensive so be sure to look at the price before you order. I love the different seating options. There's the entry patio with small birds that will beg for food. There's the noisy, bustling interior. Then there's the ocean view rear patio. I love options.
Their halibut is amazing. Their clam chowder is well above average.
I also like how the lemons are just out there for you to grab yourself. No asking.
I wish they had a better non-alcoholic drink selection since I don't drink sodas. A fresh squeezed lemonade option would be welcome.
Andria's is a Ventura landmark.
I couldn't bring myself to a 5 star because of the prices. Is it worth it? Yes. -

Best fish & chips on the harbor!
We come out here every other week just for the fish & chips, sometimes for lunch, other times for dinner. The line tends to be quite long and snakes out the door, especially at peak hours, but it goes FAST! So, don't be deterred. Grab a menu while you wait in line, and by the time you've decided what you want, you'll be at the order counter.
One order of "the original" fish & chips is ~$11 and is such a generous helping that it serves 2 people. There are many other deep-fried options with chips/fries, like halibut ($16), alaskan cod ($13), shrimp ($16), calamari ($11), scallops ($14), etc. We've always been really happy with just "the original" that we've never had a reason to try the other offerings.
The fish portions are large and piping hot with moist, flaky fillets and an airy, crispy batter.
Minus one star because the clam chowder, though freshly made and chock full of clams, is really bland.
Visa and Mastercard accepted. Also offer really cute kids meals that come inside a container that looks like a paper boat.
Plenty of seating inside the restaurant, but we like to sit at the picnic tables out front if it's not too cold. After such a great meal, we usually go for a walk around the harbor. -

Andrea's is another Ventura local staple. Located in the Ventura Harbor, it has a great nautical/fisherman atmosphere, with fishing nets, buoys, an boat wheels strewn throughout. Normally, anytime I go, it is one of the busiest places I have seen, but this time- around 6 on a Saturday- the place seemed quite empty. We had called in our order so we could just pick it up and go eat at the beach near the harbor entrance (very picturesque at sunset, by the way). When we got there, however, we still waited another 15 minutes for them to START our order... that was disappointing, as they are normally on top of call-in orders.
I usually stick with either the standard fish and chips, or chowder in a buoy, but this time I decided to branch out and get the mahi sandwich. I must say, I was disappointed in the sogginess of the bun, the overabundance of lettuce and the less-than-fresh fish. It tasted like it had been sitting a while, which given the length of time since we had initially ordered, was likely a while. I just covered it with their delicious cocktail sauce, with a little soy sauce for good measure, and finished eating it like the good little trooper I am, but I will have to try that one again for hopefully a better experience. -

Oh man when I saw the line out the door of this joint, I thought to myself, Hot Damn! I am in for a serious foodie experience ... but sadly, that was not the case. I ordered the famed Captain's fish and chips and marveled at the tower of fried goodness, then I splashed on the malt vinegar and went to town! Only, my dish was bland, shockingly bland. It was like eating with a cold, no flavor. The batter is merely flour and and maybe a pitch of salt. I'm sorry Andria, but I know I've had better fish and chips.
This area is really lacking when it comes to restaurant volume and variety so I think Andria's benefits heavily from the absence of competition.Listed in: Popular Places that Suck

The BEST clam chowder !!! The line out the door may seem long, but it goes fast. The food is so good, and the staff is very nice !!! Sit outside and enjoy watching the boats in the Ventura Harbor !!!

Very nice local Hole-in-the-Wall....recommended by family as best place for fish in Ventura. I whole-hearted believe that. We were a party of 5, and after reading reviews, 3 went for the Fish n Chips, large portion and well cooked, another had Teriyaki Chicken plate, and I had the Thresher Shark plate. Plates come with rice, roll and choice of another side dish. Again very nice portions, took pic of Shark Plate. Chicken plate had 2 chicken breasts, and Shark Steak filled the plate! Overall, an excellent experience and recommend for anyone visiting or even if you live here, your missing out!!!

Where's the fish??? I was disappointed during a lunch visit last year because there was so little fish in the "fish and chips". Decided to give it a retry and returned to Andria's today and actually saw a decline in the food quality. The fish and chips looked (and tasted) so greasy and saturated with oil. They need to seriously revamp this place or shut it down. Seafood places should serve more fish than batter. I'm over this place.

This is the best Fish & Chips I've ever had. I think they put crack in it. It's that addictive. I like mine with lemon squeezed on it, then salted and dipped in their Tarter Sauce. The portions on a single order are enough for both me and my wife (and i weigh 250). They don't limit your lemon and tarter sauce or cocktail sauce either, it is self serve. The line moves fast and the food comes out fast. This is a must do when you are in Ventura. In fact do yourself a favor and don't eat anywhere else until you've eaten here.

Casual, order at counter kinda place.
While not cheap, the value is good.
You get either fries or rice pilaf with your choice of seafood. I have only tried the fish and chips and fried oysters and chips, and clam chowder. The first two were very good with generous amounts of seafood and fries. They offer four types of fish for your fish and chips. While I have not had the cod or halibut, I highly recommend either the "original" or the South African Cape fish. The oysters are big puppies, and I actually would prefer small ones, but hey, it's hard to find fried oysters on this coast, and esp. after the BP spill, so you take what you can get.
The chowder is thick, bland, and heavy on carrots and potatoes, with the occasional piece of what appears to be canned baby clams, a big disappointment.
FYI Brophy Bros. across the way offers sit-down table service and equally high quality offerings, but they really excel at clam chowder, and they give free excellent sourdough bread and butter. Try both and see which one you prefer.
Lately I have been going to Andria's because it's easier on the budget with Hubs and I being able to share an order of fish and chips with one extra fish piece a la carte for about $15 plus tax. Brophys would be double that plus tip. -

We visited Andria's as it was recommended in the book "West Coast Road Eats." Perhaps we came with expectations that were too high.
We ordered the bowl of clam chowder and their famous angel fish and chips. The chowder was creamy and smooth but underseasoned with very little clam (mostly a potato chowder). We had to add both salt and pepper to the chowder. The fish and chips were kind of bland as well. There was no flavor to the fish although it was fried well and crispy. The chips were just okay as well. The only flavor we could get was whatever dipping sauce (tartar, malt vinegar, etc) that we used with the fish/chips.
It was a beautiful day so it was nice to sit outdoors and enjoy the food. The price was reasonable and portions decent, but overall the food did not live up to the hype.
Note: We count 2 stars as our average so to have more leeway with the better restaurants out there. The food here is fine, but average for us. -

Stopped by to grab some clam chowder on our way up to the Central Coast. We shared some chowder, fish and chips, calamari, scallops, and rice pilaf. Good food in a nice "seaside village" atmosphere.
Afterwards we enjoyed a nice walk around Ventura Harbor. This was the perfect place for a cool winter's evening. I'll be sure to stop in again the next time I'm in the area. -

It's been over 10 years since I ordered or ate here. Just don't get around in Ventura Harbor area much.
They really give you huge portions for order! The food is yummy! They have huge fried clam strips, which is very good. The rice pilaf and cole slaw are very good. The cole slaw tends to be more on the creamy mayo side. The service is nice and friendly! Their clam chowder is very good, not over salty tasting for those who are salt conscious like us. Love their tartar sauce!
They are nice and friendly here. Can't wait to come back here again soon for more take out! -

I would give Andria's higher marks, because for a few years, I've made the trek up from LA to get some fried seafood, which I absolutelly LOVE but can rarely if ever find in LA. They give you HUGE portions and it's generally good. I usually got the fish and chips but this time I got the captains combo I think was the name, with shrimp, scallops, fish, calamari, fries and then a small clam chowder.
This last time was an interesting time, as I came with my Mom who is an even more avid fan of seafood than I. She was NOT impressed to say the least. And honestly, she woke me up to what is not all that great of food. The clam chowder was luke warm and did not have much clam in it at all. The rest of the order was not hot, even though they gave it to us immediately as there weren't as many customers as they normally have when I go, and I realized how bland the food really is. Oh it tastes alright and hits the spot when you really need some fried seafood, but the fact that there is a Brophy Bros right across the parking lot that I had never noticed before, which actually tastes better and is cheaper!, then I probably won't be coming back.
Actually my Mom made me take her to the Brophy Bros after we left this place so she could get some good seafood. -

Ventura, CA
Andria's is the fallback fish restaurant; order at the counter, pick up when they call your number, serve yourself condiments. you don't have to bus the table, however. There is zero ambiance and at the end of the day, lots of debris around. the bathrooms are across the parkinglot and down a dingy hallway, so beware and plan ahead. i had a captain's platter which was delicious, husb had clam strips and they were big strips of clam fried perfectly. fries were good. wine selection is abysmal, i order pasta salad about once a year and am never disappointed: horrible, but i keep hoping. cole slaw is adequate and edible. clam chowder never disappoints although we haven't sampled it in a while.
it is great to eat outside during the day when it is warm and it's great to be able to walk around the harbor. fresh fish market adjacent to dining area. -

Ventura, CA
Come for the food and enjoy the view! Fish and chips were pretty good, although they use a different fish than normally found in fish & chips. It was shark-fish which had a meatier texture and while tasty, I think next time I'll stick with Cod or Halibut (I just like the texture better.) The clam chowder was good, but as some reviewers said, not much seafood in it. Plenty of seating in front, some inside and quite a bit out back. The tented area has heaters but go out and enjoy the sunshine and watch the sailboats!
Andria's also has a fresh seafood counter in the back where you can buy today's catch to take home and cook yourself. It's always fresh and delicious and they can tell you where it came from. Early Saturday you can buy straight from the fishermen off the back of the boats.
All in all, good lunch, huge portions, friendly staff and an amazing view. -

If you're looking for a great fried seafood eatery this is the place. If it's your first time you have to try the clam chowder. Then go for some fried calamari or fish or a mix. you definitely won't be hungry when you leave.
Gets very crowded at lunch, but it has had big dining area both inside and out. -

Andria's is a yummy local fish shack. Good portions and great prices. My friend and I had the fried clams, oysters and clam chowder in a bread bowl. Everything was great. We did find it a little odd that the chowder had carrots in it. Other than that everything was great. Check it out.

I like this place rain or shine. Lines are long when the sun is out. Avoid the typical lunch or dinner hours if you do not want to stand in line, long. If you like lines, then go during peak dining hours :)
If you like fired seafood, this is a good place to have it. Romantic on rainy days! -

Awesome seafood joint in Ventura Harbor. Very casual, great food and huge portions!
Very inexpensive but don't confuse that for cheap because there are other fancier sit down restaurants in the vicinity.
Andria's offers the best flavors and the best pricing in a very unpretentious atmosphere. The clam chowder is full of flavor and rich! The fish and chips are crispy and moist. The onion rings are awesome because they are battered fresh.
Try the steamers....very flavorful and not expensive!
Beer, wine, fountain drinks... it's all here.
My wife and I love to split a large chowder, order fish and chips and some steamers! Yummers! -

We had fresh grilled local fish on a bun. Really good! The green salad was excellent, the coleslaw crispy and fresh, not mayonnaise- soaked. This casual place gets my vote for yumminess any time! The staff was very nice, too.

While on a vacation in Ventura, I asked my Oxnard/Ventura friends for food suggestions and Andria's definitely peaked my interest when "clam chowder" was mentioned. For my mom, my sister, my niece, and I, clam chowder is definitely our favorite American soup. We've had the best in San Francisco and Boston, so our standards are pretty high.
Verdict? We went two days in a row. Andria's clam chowder definitely won us over. The large bowl is LARGE-- three adults and a toddler were able to split this along with South African Cape Capensis & Chips and Cioppino (Fish Stew). The fish and chips (we substituted rice pilaf) was awesome-- soft, large pieces of white fish fried to perfection. The homemade tartar was a great compliment to the fried fish. Top it with lemon and it's like seafood heaven on earth. As for the cioppino, we were very excited to try this since it's never on a menu in SoCal. Out of all the dishes, we were kinda disappointed with it-- bland tomato soup with huge chucks of fish and carrots.
Overall, Andria's is awesome! Large portions of fresh seafood for great prices. -

Everything we ordered was fried to perfection! Just the way I like it.
We got one order of fried halibut with chips and one order of fried scallop with cole slaw. The halibut was crispy on the outside and moist on the inside and the scallops were like little amazing seafood poppers. The chips were crisp, not too soggy or salty, and the cole slaw fresh and crunchy.
I can definitely see why this place is so popular and will definitely stop by for fried goodness if I'm ever in Ventura!Listed in: Weight Watchers Anonymous

Camarillo, CA
Love it here--it's more like 4 1/2 stars, but the sit-down area's way too casual to call for five stars. The easy breezy harbor eatery is worth standing in the usually long line coming out of the front door. The friendly peeps at the counter take your order quickly, and there really is something for everyone, even those who don't like seafood. The kids' menu offers three different dishes for $8 and comes complete with dessert and toys that keep the little ones well occupied.
The broad menu does include chicken (not of the sea), but of course it's the seafood that rocks. Andria's original fish & chips nearly melts in your mouth--but don't eat too quickly lest the very hot deep fried morsels melt off your tastebuds. Better order a glass of crispy white wine or a refreshingly cold beer as gustatory insurance. BF got the shrimp & chips and gave the breaded butterflied critters his well earned crustacean stamp of approval. And by the way, this is the only place I can think of where I can get deep fried oysters, so for that special coolness alone, this place has to be classified as kick-ass. -
Review from Todd N.
It's been almost close to 13 years since I've been coming to this homey place up in the Ventura area, and it's taken only until now to finally write a review. Ridiculous.
Speaking of the word ridiculous, this place is ridiculously good! It's hard for me to stray away from their signature item, but I always get it. Two words: Fish and Chips. I'm sure their other items are good too, but I just can't get myself to order something outside my usual. As a note, you don't have to get fries (chips) with your order, you can also substitue with either rice or coleslaw. I tend to mix those up here and there.
I've also noticed in the course of the decade, they've really downsized on the portions. The fish pieces are a lot smaller and less pieces too. I just recently went this past weekend, and it was just then 'til I realized that.
Keep in mind that this place gets BUSY! Out of the countless times I've been here the line is always out the door. Service is fast, so the line goes pretty quickly. As another note, it's not a fine-dining option at all but rather a completely casual restaurant. It has that old charm, sit-down diner style. It's kind of hard to describe, but 5 stars entirely for food! -

Really excellent seafood. We had halibut fish & chips and a clam chowder bowl. Don't be afraid of the line. It moves fast. We're SOOOO glad we trusted Yelp and walked a little further than we wanted to. It was totally worth it, and we'll definitely be back!

Chowder in a Buoy... that's all I have to say.
I have so many fond memories of eating fish and chips at this place with all my buddies. Those were great times.
The fish and chips are amazing and their clam chowder, is some of the best anywhere.
I didn't like the Calamari and chips but's it's only because the calamari is different than what I am used to. Very thick long pieces instead of the smaller less meaty ones that I like. Maybe it's just me.
The ambiance is so amazing. Right on the harbor docks. Gotta love eating right next to the ocean. -

We use to go to Andrias quite often. We probably have not been for a year. I got the Halibut and chips to go. It just was not good. The fries were not even cooked and the fish was really bland and oily. I feel they get so busy the oil does not stay hot enough. Our favorite place now is Fishermans Catch.

Tried their Halibut, Angel Shark Fish and Chips, and the Clam Chowder. The food was pretty good. Typical beer battered type and normal fries. I loved that they give you a large amount of food. We definitely had leftovers for many meals. Might go back again.

Tip: Stick to the huge menu that's in your face, and not the menu on the side.
Wanted to try something not fried, and got the Steamed Clams. Also tried the clam chowder and the Deep Fried Krabby Cake Burger. Steamed clams were swimming in sauce that was lacking in flavor, and also slightly overcooked. The clam chowder was also lacking in oomph and flavor, although super heavy, thick and creamy. What makes this a 4-star is the amazing crab cake burger (TWO PATTIES!) and the amazing french fries. Stick with the fried food, and keep in mind that you're not coming here to lose weight. -

I'm never eating clam chowder at Souplantation ever again...
...because Andria's Clam Chowder was waaayyy too delicious! My friend and I shared a bowl of this hearty, creamy soup in a bread bowl and it was fantastic. The soup wasn't too heavy like most Clam Chowder soups are for me and the seafood was fresh and chewy. Lot's of yummy potatoes in it too. Best of all, I didn't feel gross after consuming all that creamy soup and bread.
I tried some of my friend's Alaskan Cod fish and chips and it was great also. The fish was breaded perfectly so it was crispy, but didn't muffle the fish flavors.

Ate here again, the difference is the price for the Captains Combo has gone up by 10% to $16.99. The quality was still similar the fish, calamari and shrimp were good but the fries were bland. They need to put salt or some seasoning on the fries.
There is no more paid parking! Who knew that paying for parking would drive away harbor patrons? Although the parking spots has 3 hour parking written on them, I am not sure if this is actually enforced, but unless you came to the harbor for a show 3 hours should be more than enough to do whatever you want.Listed in: 805 Seafood

Roseville, CA
Such a great place for fresh seafood.
Fish and Chips, Halibut and Chips, Clam Chowder, Calamari, and Scallops. Try any of these dishes and compare to the competition. The chowder is loaded with fresh clams, a meal in itself. How often do you have an opportunity to have fresh halibut and chips? Even the french fries are perfect with the standard order huge in comparison to many restaurants and the fries themselves not a bit greasy. The breading on the deep fried fish is done to perfection, lightly coated, and the grilled fish is seasoned to bring out all of the flavor of the fish.
I find it impossible to be traveling on nearby Highway 101 and not stop. You order at the counter and find seating while you wait. The quality, freshness, and flavor of the fish offerings beat anything in the area and at bargain prices in comparison. -

I didn't have the fish & chips... the other seafood options seemed more tempting when we ordered them! Boy I wish that I did try them! Next time!
LOCATION
- Ventura Harbor Village
- free parking and a wonderful area to walk along the dock
- kid friendly and dog friendly too!
- watch out for birds of all kinds because they were scoping for some food in the outdoor area
FOOD
* scallops & cole slaw - 4/5 http://www.yelp.com/bi...
- no additional cost for substituting the chips for cole slaw!
- cole slaw complimented the deep fried food very well
- tasted amazing with lemon, vinegar, tarter sauce, cocktail sauce lol
* oysters & chips - 3.5/5 http://www.yelp.com/bi...
- oysters are HUGE and flavored well, but pretty oily
- chips were shoestring fries instead of pictures I've seen as fat fries :(
- tasted great with just lemon juice!
NOTE
- they use peanut oil to deep fry their seafood (for those w/allergies)
- a large drink is REALLY large & only $1.90 (refills $.50). Ask for your drink in a take out cup, otherwise it's in a for here cup; didn't have a problem exchanging it!
- portions are generous
- line is usually out the door on weekends, so come early or be prepared to wait :)Listed in: Good for Groups, Mom & Pop Shops, Outdoor Seating, MUST TRY!, Here fishy fishy
