Five stars, for what it's worth... absence makes the heart grow fonder. This place is closed. Which is really sad, because, even though I don't eat here a lot, it's like an oasis of calm and good lighting in this Night of the Living Dead neighborhood (if the main threat of zombies was being annoying). They're knocking off the Andrew's Coffee Shops one by one. First the one in the Chrysler Building, then the one by the Express DMV, then the one way downtown, and now this, the best looking one, with the Wild West font sign.
The exciting, or dreadful (depending on your point of view) thing, though, is that, according to a sign on Andrews' darkened door, is that what will be opening in its place is none other than Dans Le Noir? That's not merely conjecture, that question mark is part of the name-- I guess it's French for "what the f**k?" The darkened door is going to get a whole lot darker. This bizarre chain of restaurants serves food in the total pitch blackness! Part of me wants to say that's the worst idea I've ever heard of, but on the other hand it IS extreme, and the perfect place for a blind date. While rather pricey (I wonder if blind people get a discount?) you have to assume they are at least lax on the dress code.
It could end being a neighborhood trend. While the dollar pizza places are at war (while trying not to go below a dollar), why not get up on the competition by making dollar pizza in the dark? No one likes standing in line at the Post Office, but how about in the dark? That could ease the pain. How about Ying Du-- back in action after a brief stint of "closed by the health department"-- IN THE DARK? I need a drink just for THINKING about that.Listed in: Secret Meeting

Went in to have breakfast the servers are really nice and friendly the old guy on he cashier makes me feel I'm talking to a mafia guy ^_^
There are lots of seats and a bar or a counter, food is good pretty much the same with any other dinner nothing special I tried the French toast, egg and sausages but it's not wat I expected the sausage was like a patty burger not the sausage that I was expecting may be I'll stop by some other time and try their lunch specialty. -

I like this place. its a coffee shop. its straight down the middle, the food is pretty good, the service is usually solid, the manager is an old pro.
I like it because I work on the street and its a good place to take a colleague, friend, that drops by. Food is quick, lots of booths. -

Tucked away on a busy stretch of W.38th St., Andrew's--like most of the garment district--looks like it hasn't been touched in the last thirty or forty years. (Not much, at least.) Which, in the age of massive chain-store buyouts, the Disneyfication of Times Square and wholesale gentrification across much of the city--is undoubtedly a good thing.
And if it's more than a bit run-down, Andrew's has a decent sized menu, average food, reasonable prices and attentive, quick and pleasant waitresses. (Cute, too.) There are also some pretty amazing old school details to be discovered if you look closely: the awning, the logo, signs on the walls and mod-round counter stools could all come right out of a Cassavettes movie.
All things considered, there might be no reason whatsoever to seek this place out, but if you wind up hungry on W.38th St. and want a quick meal on the cheap, there's no reason you shouldn't stop in. -

I had not eaten at an Andrews location in years but I tried their 38th Strret coffee shop/diner last Friday. My standard breakfast fare - corned beef hash and eggs - which were A-OK and fairly cheap. Coffee was so-so. The bill was under $8.00. Service was a little slow. David C. is spot on in terms of the decor which looks quite dated. Worth a try if you work in the area.

Decent food, OK ambience. Food was mediocre, nothing special, but since we were in the area, we tried it. The prices are good, but hey you get what you pay for ;-)

I came here with a few friends on a wednesday night looking for some diner food. We each ordered the three course meal that was about $ 15 including tax and tip. I got the house salad, meatloaf platter and apple pie. The house salad came in a bowl that was filthy with food stains and even had a dead fly in it! What was more disappointing was the meatloaf platter was supposed to come with mashed potatoes and "vegetables" which pretty much meant corn. The corn was brown and looked old and the mashed potatoes had a applesauce-like texture which tasted like it came from a box. How do you go wrong with canned corn?? The meatloaf looked like it came from a can and heated up on a frying pan. It even tasted really gross. The apple pie was okay but I think the best part of the meal was the whipped cream from the apple pie.
So y'all are probably thinking the service shouldn't be so bad either. My friend ordered a personal pan pizza and guess what? The waiter spills the pizza on the table, picks it up with her hands and doesn't even get her a new pizza! Definitely never coming back here. -

andrew's is a coffee shop and diner-esque. lo-budget, fun old lady booths, sketchy bathroom, lipton teas and sides of jello.
it is a little dumpy inside, but food is fresh and decent! it's cheap and not crowded.
heard an awesomely cheesy cover of sam cooke's "cupid, draw back your bow" and got to watch random people drink their coffee and read the paper. -

Eggs, Potatoes and Toast for $3.10 in Manhattan? How can you not love it. Quick service, typical diner food. Liked it!

Good simple food. Had eggs and ham on toast and you couldn't get better for $6. Friendly service on new years day. Can't ask for much more! I'd go back.
