    ***Andrew James is now CLOSED***

Marie moved to Rapunzel salon in Saratoga:
    http://www.yelp.com/bi...

I can't speak to any of the other stylists here, but Marie is amazing. I was a salon hopper until I found her, and was seldom happy with my hair after getting it cut. Marie has a wonderful eye for what would look good, and she makes careful suggestions while still listening to my needs (=very little maintenance).

She's a little pricey, but I'm glad to be done trying new salons and worrying about whether or not I'll like my cut--totally worth it in my opinion! She definitely knows her stuff.

The first time I made an appointment with Megan, she didn't have enough time to dye my hair like I had asked. So she just cut it and I waited 5 weeks for dye. It was a good hair cut. Then 5 weeks later she didnt have enough time for my hair cut (that I wanted) and just did a dye that looked horrible and costed $300!!

About the dye: I had very bright blonde hair and she wanted to make it more like my natural blonde color which is goldeny-blonde. She promised it wouldn't be darker than my natural color, and then when it turned muddy brown it wasn't her fault.... I came back a week later for correction but then it was still too dark for my taste (after paying more money) and then I had to go home and correct it myself.

This place is so expensive, and they don't know how to manage their time. They also will never take blame/guarantee their services.

The worst hair cut I have ever had in my 30 years! Nothing I wanted out of the style came about- I wanted to keep my length, Magen cut over 7 inches above my shoulders. I wanted a no-fuss style, she teased and hair-sprayed like there was no tomorrow. I was in such a state of shock that I actually paid- what a mistake! After crying for an hour after I got home, I called and wrote a letter to get my money back, since I had to go to another salon to get the cut fixed. They refused to answer my request for reimbursement, and ignored my frustration. No customer service skills from the stylist Magen, or manager Heather.
For anyone who is looking for an upscale salon, this is not it! Great Clips could of done a better job of styling my hair. Unfortunately, I cannot give zero stars, cuz that's what they deserve!

The girls here are really fun, and nice.

I wanted to take my hair back to natural and then have some lighter pieces that peak out a little from the bottom.  They worked really hard to get my hair the way I wanted it, and I had a blast with them.  It is a small salon, and a little hard to find, but I would definitely go back.

I just returned from my first cut and highlight at Andrew James and I am blown away by the amazing job my stylist Marie did! The service from start to finish was remarkable as I was offered a drink menu that included Illy Coffee and Latte's. I had not had my hair colored in quite some time and was a bit nervous trying out a new stylist, but Marie did an absolute AMAZING job with my highlights and cut. It was exactly how I envisioned my perfect color and style.

The owner of the salon donated a hair cut for a good friend whose husband was diagnosed with cancer, and who needed a day of pampering. Her cut was also amazing! She almost cried when the stylist finished because she was so pleased with the results.

This salon feels like a family, and is also community minded, donating the haircut for my friend, and working to support a charity with a yearly Hair Fashion Show.

OK, I will admit up front I am friends with Heather, the owner of this hair salon. But friends or not, I wouldn't go back if I didn't really like it here - I mean, come on, every woman's hair is sacred, right?

I always see Dana, and 9 times out of 10, I ADORE the way my hair looks...the 10th time, I still liked it. My last cut was called "The Switch," and it made me feel sexy for the first time since I've been married! I love going in there and being offered their yummy lattes with the delicious biscotti. I love the way they massage your neck when shampooing your hair. I love the way it's a no-gratuity salon, so you never have to worry about having to bring cash and give extra. I love the way they're "team-based," so no one is upset if you switch hair stylists...I've had both Dana and Vanessa, and I think both are great.

I have an appointment in two weeks to re-color my roots, so rest assured that this review is very current!

I got a fantastic flashwave from Marie back in Sep 2009! Loved it so much I went back and got it done again 6 months later.

Flashwave is not a perm, but it lasts kinda like one. I have long flat hair and had try perming it to get more curls and volumes, but each time it ends up being either too voluminous or not curly enough. Flashwave gives me exactly what I wanted, it's a nice and soft beachy wave. It's super low maintenance too. (I don't like to spend more than 5 minutes on my hair) I leave it air dry, spray a little bit of the Fortify, and a little bit of gel. Scrunch it every now and then and voila. If I wake up with bed hair, I simply spray it with some water and the waves come right back.

The process took less than 2 hours. It is costly (I paid $225 +tip because I have really long hair) but only twice a year for me, that's not bad at all! Thanks Marie :)

Am I the only guy writing a review? Damn...

Anyway, I originally started going to Andrew James Salon back in 2000. There was a period of about 3 years where I had both moved and changed jobs so I started going to a different place in Berkeley. I've since then switched back and have been regularly going back to Andrew James Salon for the past 3 or so years. There obviously has been staff turnover but quality has remained the same.

My hair is very thick, coarse, curly, and full of annoying cowlicks. I go there for their quality cuts and consistency in dealing with an incredibly difficult head of hair. It's as simple as saying "the same as last time" and occasionally "a little longer/shorter" which is great because frankly, I'm a guy. If I even brush my hair in the morning it's a big day.

Oh and they sell Eufora products. Man I hope none of my buddies ever read this review.

    Heart Attack.

I went in to get a price quote for color correction and hair dying and expected to shell out $300 tops for the entire process.  The consultation itself cost $30 (which would go towards the coloring process) which I was okay with.  Then came the time when I scheduled my two appointments.  The first appt came out to a lil over $300 for the first session (with a heavy emphasis by Dana that it was the minimum cost) and a lil over $200-250 for the second session.  Now, I splurge on things I don't need all the time.  But over $550 to turn my hair into a different color? Gosh!

Pluses:  Dana really does sound like she knows what she's doing.
Minuses: Price, price, price.  Also, I really don't like chunky fake-looking highlights (which all the hair stylists besides Dana had) and she kept insisting that my hair color would need highlights.

Conclusion:  When i am independently wealthy, I'll come back and get my hair done here, just to see what over $500 in hair coloring does.

The service was outstanding..  I was able to choose a complimentary drink from the drink menu.. the employees were sweet and friendly..  and the prices are very reasonable..

But.. it was absolutely the WORST haircut I have ever had in my life.. I burst into tears when I got home.. I have to wait a while to get it fixed, otherwise it will end up too short.. I'm not at all satisfied with my haircut, and I won't be returning.

I finally found an amazing stylist to color/style my hair, and she moved to Dubai....

As I was going through withdrawals, a friend recommended Andrew James as she and her mother get her hair done there. I loved how her highlights looked, thin and evenly, yet naturally spaced, not stripy/chunky.  Even though her hair is blond and mine is dark brown, I gave Andrew James a shot, but opted for soft black and purple partial lowlights.

Immediately upon entering the salon, I was offered a drink and chose a vanilla-suger-free latte that was expertly brewed, steamed, and topped with shaves of chocolate. It was better than some cafes I frequent.

The salon is clean, cozy, and was equipped with ample reading material.  The staff is courteous and polite.

Once in the chair, Meghan listened to what I wanted during a consultation, and recommended a demi-permanent color. The day of my appointment, she blended the black and purple expertly, using at least 50 foils in my hair.

During the blow-dry, Meghan styled my hair exactly how I envisioned. As a lover of  big vintage hair, I requested my a-line bob be very high in the back, and she back-combed it a bit for lift.

If purple was a natural color, one would think I was born with these amazing shades.

The most unique thing about this salon is that it has a no tipping policy.  The stylists are paid salary, not commission, so you don't have to tip anyone whose path you cross.  I see Natasha, and she does a great job on highlights and with blow drying and straightening my hair.  She also gives a great wash- she incorporates a great head & neck massage.  You might think that the prices are more because you're not tipping, but it comes out to being equal, or a little less, than where I used to go in Los Gatos (and I only had to tip 1 stylist there).

I have been going to a hairstylist for the past 2 years before I ventured out (mostly because by hairdresser was far and hard to get in to see) and lo and behold I found Andrew James Salon's website online(http://www.ajsalon.com... I thought I would give it a try.  My first experience there was unforgetable, a warm greeting and fresh cappuccino marked the dawn of a new "hair era". I had the most amazing  cut and color by Cindy and Dana.  Nice thing about this salon is it is team based and not like your commercial salons.  It has a genuinity to the people and the work they do.  I know many people say this about their own stylists  but I received many compliments and even stopped by strangers to find out where I had my hair done...Now that is what all gal wants...Try the place out.  You would have nothing to lose.  Their hair product line is chemical free and all natural.  I keep coming back for more of that as well!

I've been a client at Andrew James for many years and I have never had a bad experience! Every single person at the salon makes you feel welcomed and they couldn't be more friendly or accomodating. Dana has been cutting my hair for a long time and she is a hair genius! Each stylist really takes the time and effort to make sure the client leaves feeling and looking great! This past weekend I was in a wedding and all the bridesmaids (and bride) went in to get updos...Magen whipped them all out! I was a little nervous having a stylist I had never met do an updo on me (I have really long hair)...and Magen's updo on me was amazing!! I was thrilled! I always get excited when I know I have a hair appointment coming up because it's total pampering! As soon as you walk in you're greeted with friendly smiles and a beverage list that goes on for days! (try the latte...fabulous!) All the women at the salon make you feel like the most important client! It's a nice escape from the crazy schedules we all keep! I most definitely recommend Andrew James...from the people, to the upkeep of the salon, to the wonderful products...it's a hidden gem in Cupertino that not enough people know about!! Try it out!
