AMAZING!! Deserves another star or two!
I have worn glasses since I was 14 and in all my 20 years, I have not found an optometrist I like this much. The wonderful ladies in this office, not only know their stuff, they are passionate about eye wear. They are way into the design elements that make a great frame, understand the importance of a great fit and a frame that suits you, but also the technical details that go into lens durability, scratch resistance and wear - and let's not forget, how to save money well getting what you need most for your lifestyle - i.e if you're hard on your glasses like me :)
So not only are the peeps here delightful, the frames are really affordable and they all look good - because they carry prodesign - who I learned while there, really know how to design great, well fitting frames. (There is a reason why prodesign have one of the top 3 selling frames in the US!)
Anyhow, I couldn't be happier and I will definitely be back.
If you are a fellow four-eye like me, please go, you will be happy you did. -

he is the best optometrist in los angeles. yes, his office books up like three months in advance, but he's worth it. super patient and knowledgeable, quite unlike most of my old eye doctors who shuffle you in, tell you you're blind and push you out the door.
also, i get to say that my optometrist wears trekkie pin on his lab coat. rad. -

This is my second year going to him (I've worn contacts and glasses for 12 years) and everything that everyone has written is true. Very patient, thorough, and excellent at listening.
Dr. Gore takes the time to treat you like a person, not just a patient, and make sure you get the care you need and that you don't feel rushed out of there. He answers all my questions thoroughly and I never feel like he is just trying to get on to his next appointment when I am in the room. I no longer have to worry that my eye health or prescription is being overlooked or messed up like it was before with other doctors. -

Dr. Gore is the best, THE BEST!!!!
It's been a while since our appointment and I can't believe I forgot to write a review for him! He is so skilled at what he does and pays attention to detail.
I just had to write a review today because after getting my prescription filled somewhere else, I found the glasses were too strong because they sat so close to my face. Dr. Gore took care of it over the phone, no problem. He kinda makes me wanna get my eyes checked more often for the hell of it. Or, I wish I could clone him so he could be my general doctor, chiropractor and dermatologist. -

I was super excited to discover that Dr. Gore is in Pasadena, now! I used to be a patient of his in Santa Cruz when I was in grad school (and oddly, I had much better insurance as a grad student than I do now as a university faculty member... hmmm. but that's another issue.)
I haven't gone to see him here in Pasadena, yet, but my husband is trying to schedule appointments for both of us soon. When I saw him in Santa Cruz, I needed new contacts and I had been having a lot of headaches. He was the first eye doctor to discover that I had actually been OVER prescribed for distance - and my headaches were being caused by my extensive computer work. With correction, I was actually seeing better than 20/20, and he convinced me to cut back on the prescription so that my close vision was less affected. I did so, and problem solved!
He was thorough, patient, and the only eye doctor I've ever been to who also recommended a line of cruelty-free contact lens care products. Those are not easy to find, and I appreciated that he cares enough to recommend those. I'm looking forward to continuing my eyecare relationship with him after an almost 10 year hiatus! -

Believe the hype. The 5 Star rating is very well deserved.
This is the first optometrist that I would say I truly enjoyed visiting. Dr. Gore has a super cool personality and makes you feel instantly at home. I mean, he has a StarFleet badge on his jacket (So cool). It was definitely easy to relate and connect to him right away.
These days, optometrists are like factories, churning you through the machine to increase their volume for profits. The doc shatters that paradigm with personalized service and the old fashioned patient doctor approach that has long been forgotten in this industry. I didnt feel rushed or pressured at any point in my appointment. It was simply a relaxed and enjoyable experience.
As for the selection of frames, I was quite pleased. His optician Socorro was sweet and incredibly knowledgeable about both style and the tech specs on all of their hardware. Prices were reasonable and they didn't have any of the cheesy selections you find at a lot of the big box places.
I strongly suggest anyone who wants to deal with only the best to give Dr. Andrew Gore a try. I promise you will be impressed.Listed in: My Neighborhood

Honestly, there isn't much I can say that hasn't already been said in previous reviews.
I originally found Dr. Gore on Yelp for my boyfriend late last year. He had a great experience and I went with him several times to check out the office for myself. It's very boutique-ish which I love. They are definitely there to give you a one on one experience.
When it came time for my exam, I knew exactly where to go. Be prepared to wait two weeks before an opening date because they don't overlap appointment times and everything is by appointment only. My exam was very routine and not as high-tech as my last one. (The last doctor had some crazy gadget that took pictures of my eyes) Still, Dr. Gore is very professional, thorough and goes step by step. Because I was getting contacts for the first time, he did a test to check the dryness of my eyes. Lo and behold, my eyes are pretty dang dry and my tears evaporate as soon as I produce them. Something no other doctor has ever told me and I definitely never felt like they were dry enough to cause me concern.
I had a follow up appointment for contact fitting/training tomorrow but today, I got a voice mail from Dr. Gore himself letting me know that he has been sick and asked me to reschedule my appointment. Because I missed his call, he also sent me an email with the same message to make sure I got it. I don't think I've ever heard of another doctor calling his/her patient them self.
Last thing, you deal with one receptionist and one doctor. No having to deal with some new person every time you come in. Neither me or my boyfriend has any kind of insurance. We both pay out of pocket and feel Dr. Gore is worth it. I'm sure you will too. -

Dr. Gore is as good as it gets. I am always a bit dubious of 100% perfect scores on Yelp but the office was conveniently located and they had an appt that fit into my schedule so I decided to go for it. My husband and I had eye exams. Hubby who is super picky about docs was quite pleased because Dr. Gore was thorough and did not push any products. My exam almost felt like a lesson in eye anatomy and health. I walked out feeling like I can answer all sorts of Jeopardy questions in the "Eye" category correctly. Furthermore, he discovered a potential issue and referred me to a specialist saying that it was probably nothing, but better safe than sorry. Just the attitude I look for in all my docs!
All in all Dr. Gore's professionalism, etiquette, and expertise earns his a perfect score. -

Very, very attentive and spends a lot of time with you. I needed an eye exam for new contacts and he also went over my current glasses prescription with me to make sure everything was okay with them. He did a very thorough eye health exam and entertained all my random eye questions. Sorry, but there are lots of weird questions that I come up with in a situation like that... should your contacts move on your eye?... yes, because tears need to get under the lense and there are things you don't want to build up under the lense cause they'll irritate your cornea. But you don't want the lense to move too much cause you need to be looking through the center of it.
Anyway, attention to detail, didn't rush me, very kind and patient. Not the greatest selection of frames, but you can go frame shopping elsewhere... -

One could be forgiven for seeing all these 5 star reviews of Dr. Gore, and (perhaps) suspecting that people just have low standards these days. . . that maybe we're all just dumping hyperbole on this guy because we're relieved to find someone who is simply competent, qualified, and articulate amongst a sea of sub-par options.
However, the truth of the matter is that Dr. Gore is entirely worthy of all these 5-star reviews and then-some. . . he's just THAT good.
I think a lot of what sets him apart comes down to how he's able to inspire confidence so immediately.
If you want to inspire confidence in your patients, regardless of specialty, there are two baisc ways to go about it: you can employ a carefully-rehearsed combination of eye contact, body language, speaking tones, and conversational keywords. . . . OR (if you're lucky enough to be a truly gifted individual) you can just execute your duties in such a precise and excellent manner that your cognitive gifts and sincere passion for what you do are all that's needed to inspire confidence.
Guess which strategy Dr. Gore relies on?
(don't worry, he's very engaging, pleasant, and articulate and carries himself as a confident professional at all times as well. . .)
Upon leaving his office for the first time, I found myself questioning why I don't encounter more Doctors like him. . . Doctors that seem gifted enough to also excel in pretty much any other area of study they choose, be it a grant-powered research scientist or top-shelf software engineer. . . Perhaps I'll get to meet a few brain surgeons and other such elite specialists once I'm on the other side of middle-aged, but so far in my experience, I really thought that medical professionals THIS good at their job only existed on TV.
On top of all that, the guy seems to be working his ass off. If Dr. Gore says he'll call you if an appointment opens up on the booked-up day you're hoping for, he means it. It would seem that he's well-adapted to accommodating all us flakey, procrastinating Angelenos without sacrificing any of the depth and thoroughness he's known for. .. (which means he's probably sacrificing things like lunch breaks and his dinner plans instead).
If you're ready to trade up to an OD you'll want to write Yelp-praise about. . . you know who to call. -

If you don't believe all these 5-star reviews, you should go see him and tell me what you think.
This is my third year going to him. He is just simply good, honest and really good doctor. I don't have to write much because everyone else wrote what I would write. Just good.
One more thing I need to mention. I had pink eye and was going to Kaiser doctor because I have their insurance for general stuff. My eyes were taking too long to get better. So I paid out of my pocket without insurance and went to see Dr. Gore because I trusted that he could help me better than my Kaiser general doctor... And yes, he gave me good suggestions! My eyes got better slowly after that.
If you're looking for a good eye doctor, I'm just saying he's the one. -

Yelp, friends, and ye shall find. The best OD in all the land, Dr. Andrew Gore.
Looking back on the past, my experiences with eye doctors were rarely pleasant and infrequent at best. Something about that cold puff machine must have freaked me out, but no more!! Alas, a land free of puff and full of the kindest, most knowledgeable doctor one could find.
My exam was greated by Dr. Gore himself, working in a quiet little office in Pasadena. Your parking is free, he offers cookies and tea. A genious of optic science.
His attention to detail is unmatched. Even when
it came down to choosing frames, where I admit I'm horrible at making decisions, Dr. Gore walked me through every step. I have a fab new pair on the way, and if you have VSP, they are pretty cheap too!!
10 stars if it were possible! Highly recommended. Make an appointment today! -

I found out about Dr Gore thru my fellow yelpers, so I decided to give him a try and I have to be honest, this man goes above and beyond the call of his duty, he was very informative and even broke it down for us normal folk to understand. He gave me some mild prescription driving and reading glasses and it has helped me out tremendously .
He has a very decent selection of frames and even emailed me to follow up with my selection when I ordered my frames. I will be going back to Dr Gore when the time calls for it.. -

I've had glasses since I was in elementary school so I've gone to quite a handful of optometrists. Dr. Gore is the best thus far. The eye exam has been the most comprehensive one that I've had. My other optometrists spent about 15 minutes on the exam and Dr. Gore spent at least 45 minutes this time. He was patient, detail-oriented, and answered all my questions without rushing me. Aside from that, he provided great patient education. He reinforced contact lens hygiene/maintenance and reviewed what my insurance covers. I left his office very satisfied and was happy that parking was free after validation.
Two days after my appointment, my boyfriend lost his glasses and needed to replace them right away. I called Dr. Gore to see if he had any openings for an exam and unfortunately, he was booked up until the following week. Dr. Gore went out of his way to offer me various time slot options to accomodate me. He even called me back to tell me about an appointment cancellation. Dr. Gore has a very sincere demeanor that you probably wouldn't find in chain optometry offices. -

Dr. Gore is very thorough and patient and really listens to your concerns. Definitely not your typical 5 minute eye exam. Plus the fact that he's a major treky makes me trust him as a doctor even more. Really really nice guy.

The eye examination given by Dr. Gore to my owner was fantastic. In fact, he can see so sharp that when we go out for walks, he spots things that I cannot see, although I am only 5 inches off the ground and he is much taller than "moi". So with his fantastic corrective lenses that Dr. Gore prescribed, he can see things that I cannot see and we can cover each other. Now, if only Dr. Gore can give my owner the "smell and sniff" test that I can do better than him, then we might be almost equal.......

Wow-I'm not sure what else I can say about the wonderful Dr. Gore that hasn't already been said. He is everything that the previous yelpers have described and more. He is super attentive, polite, patient, knowledgeable, basically everything doctors should be but what few doctors really are. This Dr. is a gem! He explained my insurance to me, gave me an extra pair of contacts in case my contacts didn't arrive in time, and explained every step of every procedure. He covers your parking too! His selection of glasses is sufficient for me-I look like a nerd in any pair of glasses anyway. PEOPLE! Come see Dr. Gore for all your eye needs. Where ever you are coming from, it is worth the drive. (BTW-Currently appointments only.)

Thanks Yelp, for pointing me to Dr. Gore. I went to him last year for a regular eye exam and never wrote about it since it was the first time I went.
Like everyone here stated, he is the most thorough optometrist I've ever been to. He's very nice and soft spoken, and explained everything to me in detail. And, for the record, I physically saw him clean the instruments before I put my face all over them.
Anyway, the reason for this review is actually not for a visit I had, but I called him to schedule an appointment for a floater in my eye (if this happens to you BTW, don't wait 3 weeks for it to go away before you realize it's not going to and then schedule an appointment! Do it right away! But I digress...). I made the appointment with the receptionist, and just about a minute later, he personally called me to ask questions about it. He even was willing to schedule me after office hours to get it checked out! Sadly, since it's a medical issue and I have HMO, I can't see him... but honestly, the awesome thing about Dr. Gore is that he legitimately cares. He even called me back to make sure I get the issue resolved, whether it's through him or another provider (so I know for a fact he's not trying to screw me out of money), and even gave me his cell in case it got really bad at night.
If my stupid insurance wasn't so crappy, I'd see him for all my eye care needs, and since I can't afford to pay out of pocket, I'm limited to only once per year for my regular exam. Seriously guys, if you want someone who would go the extra mile for you, go to Dr. Gore! I definitely recommend him! -

Finally an OD locally I can go to for eye exams which I find one of the most difficult exams to take!....and for contacts...don't know about frames here....but for this you can go anywhere as long as you have the right dose....

Dr. Gore is fantastic! I'd highly recommend him to anyone, especially people like myself who have issues when it comes to anyone/anything coming near their eyes. I was extremely excited when he told me that I didn't have to endure any 'air puff' torture! ::cough::lens crafters::cough:: I'd literally suffer headaches for weeks before I finally made an appointment because I was dreading having to sit there while this terrible puff of air was being blown into my eye - and worst of all, the fact that no matter how hard I tried, I could NEVER keep my dumb eye open! It was literally my form of hell having to do it over and over again until they were able to get the air into my eye.. ughh.. Thankfully, I never have to go through that again with Dr. Gore. He uses this nifty blue light contraption that seems to be a more efficient way of doing what the air puff machine does. Not to mention, less scary for my eye-phobic self!
Like the other reviewers said, he takes his time and is extremely thorough. You definitely leave there feeling cared for which unfortunately is rare these days when it comes to doctors. -

Went for my follow up to update my glasses. Again consistent thorough service level. Remembered the issues from the previous appointment , which was over a year ago, which means he reviewed my file. Also a nice touch was when my glasses came in from the lab, he noticed a problem, sent them back. I had to wait an extra few days, but that was worth it to have my glasses just right. His actions reflect he holds standards for others as he would have for himself.

Wow! I've been to many optometrists but Dr. Gore is by far the best. I usually go to optometrists that are located at big stores like Sears, Wal-Mart, Costco, etc, but this past year I decided to try something new. I initially found out about Dr. Gore through Yelp! (Such a kick A** site!!!) Anyway, when I went in to get my eyes checked Dr. Gore spent over an hour with me, it was exactly an hour and a half. He thoroughly checked my eyes and answered all, and I mean all the questions I had. I was his last patient of the day and we actually went past his usual work hours but he didn't seem to mind at all. He was so patient with me, I was so surprised. Also Dr. Gore's office does an amazing job of fitting lenses correctly on your frames. During eye exam he asked to see my current pair of glasses and he was surprised at what a poor job the previous people did on putting my glasses together (damn you Lens Crafters). I brought in a pair of frames that I bought somewhere else and the job he did on the lenses were amazing. The lenses sat perfectly within the frame, no overhang whatsoever. I just bought a new pair of frames and I plan on taking them to Dr. Gore next week as well.

Patient, thorough, considerate and very courteous - these are just some of the words that describe Dr. Gore. He is one of the best optometrists I've ever been to. I'll continue to see him; I'd be crazy to look somewhere else. I would highly recommend him to anyone looking for an optometrist.

Echoing all that others have said about Dr. Gore. Meticulous, attentive, thorough ... and a very nice man. I used to go to one of those large eye care operations ... and never got the same doctor twice. Dr. Gore's personal care and willingness to spend so much time with me just could not happen at those big places. He is just great!

I saw the specialist and I was negative for a tear in my retinas, and he said that what Dr. Gore saw was not a tear but looked like one, and only 10% of optometrists could have seen what he saw. He said you have a very good doctor.
Also if you have a medical necessity to see him, such as if your eye hurts, he will accomodate to squeeze you in if he is busy.

The other reviews don't exaggerate. Dr Gore is the best. He is the most conscientious, thorough, and caring eye doctor I have ever been to. Other doctors may have newer, computerized equipment, but Dr Gore never rushes you, so I believe you get a more accurate result with him. He also performs some tests that other doctors don't bother doing. He is very honest and professional. He stays on top of the medical literature and the specialists he has referred me to have been excellent. I was always feel I am in good hands with Dr Gore.

Dr. Gore prides himself on being very different from those chop shop eyeglass and contact places. He is careful not to book too many appointments in one day so that he can give each patient the attention they deserve. He is flexible on appointment times and tries his best to work with your schedule. He called me personally to apologize for a delay in getting in some contact samples for me to try. He knows his stuff and he treats his patients extremely well. What more could you ask for?

Ever since my eyesight began to decline, I have been to many optometrists, trying to find someone to help me with glasses and contact lenses. The last one tried for over a year, and couldn't get anything to work. I was told I could never wear contacts. Then one day I read reviews of Dr. Gore on http://Yelp.com, and thought I'd give it one more shot. Sure enough, within two sessions with Dr. Gore, not only did I end up with contact lenses, but I also found out that my prescription I had been using in my glasses was also all wrong! This is the first review I've ever written on http://Yelp.com, and that is because I'm so happy with my experience that I wanted to share it with others who may be having the same problems, or with anyone just looking for a good optometrist. Also, his office is nice and relaxing and he is super kind, patient, soft-spoken and confident. Always on time and very organized, too! Who better to trust your eyes to??

Dr. Gore is a unique find in a big city filled with offices that want to push you in and out quickly. I've never seen someone so attentive to the needs of the customer. He took more time asking questions and trying different options to find a perfect contact lens fit than any optometrist I've ever had. He's great at communicating with you and takes the time to help you get exactly what you need. I can recommend him with NO reservations!

I have to agree with everyone else. Dr. Gore is wonderful. He spends a lot of time explaining things to you and he also will go the extra mile in sorting out your insurance issues as well. In the past 6 years, I have had the same eye insurance and have gone to a number of different optometrists; Dr. Gore was the first optometrist to tell me that, due to my prescription, the entire cost of my contacts were covered.

I had been going to Linden Optometry, which was okay but not great. Last time I went, I got contacts, and they gave me the thumbs up on my follow up visit. Those contacts were no good, though. The prescription was way off, but I waited too long to go back and have them change it. Dr. Gore has been thorough and patient in following up. First he got my distance vision razor sharp. Then I made another appointment because I couldn't see anything close without reading glasses. After my last visit I have put away my reading glasses for good! We have discussed at length vision problems, eye health, eye strain, etc. He took it all into consideration in the final prescription. I am certain if you go here, you will be happy.
