Andre's is a diamond in a ruff, when I first heard about $5 dollar plate of spaghetti, I said to myself I need to check this place out.
It was a bit of a struggle trying to find this place, I mean it was in its own little ally between whole foods and a wig store. And its CASH ONLY!!!!

Food is awesome theres spaghetti, four cheese ravioli, lasagna, pizza, baked chicken, salad, sausage and really good butter garlic bread all for under $5 dollars.

Its cafeteria style and the food portion is big. I suggest come around after lunch or your gonna be stuck in a thirty minute wait.

And dont forget to save some room for their gelato. Flavors are amazing, but I suggest blood orange, banana chocolate and my fav spamoni! Heaven in a hot day.

    Happy eating!!!

Just thinking of this place makes my mouth water :P I been coming here since I was 5 yrs old my parents dated here all the time. Until this day I go every saturday from where I used to live Altadena, Pomona, and montclair. Now from farther away ontario...I STILL GO.  almost all the people that work there are all there from 25yrs ago, I used to work at Kmart next door in 2004  just because The restaurant attracted me to work there thinking about lunch and dinner there... I will go this weekend I know gas is expensive...But it's well worth it. I sent 4 people from my Apt's to here and they also loved it.  This is the ONLY restaurant I go to I sware! COME AND TASTE IT! you will never go to another italian place ever again!

BEST Garlic bread, Spaguetti, Pizza, Creamy italian dressing salad I have ever tasted NOTHING CAN COMPARE! Not even Vince's Spaguetti (in ontario) comes close!

please open another location! but even if they don't i'll still be comin for more!

Oh Andre's . I love this place. Been coming here for over 18 years. Introduced all my friends to it and they all love it also. Great food. Great people. Great prices. Best pizza. Lasagna is delicious. And you always have to get a spaghetti with meat sauce and extra bread on the side. They even sell beer.
Their thanksgiving special is the best. Wish they served it year round though instead of one day. The turkey and gravy. Omg. Can't wait. Love Andre's

Come to this place if you're looking for a quick Italian meal, if there ever was such a thing. It's basically cafeteria style and inexpensive. The food is alright for the price. I wouldn't take your business client or first date there, but it's a fun place to get pizza and spaghetti with a buddy.

This place is great as long as you can get over the cafeteria "dive restaurant" feel of this place. Personally, I like "dive bars" and hole-in-the-walls, so this doesn't even compare.  This place does get crowded, so expect to wait in line for at least five to ten minutes.

Andre's is situated next to Whole Foods down a little alley/terrace towards the back. Once you walk in, take a look at their extensive Italian menu. You will be pleasantly surprised to find out that the food is very, VERY reasonably priced. I've never spent more than $10.

If you are new here and you like spaghetti, the go to menu item is their spaghetti with meat sauce. The meat sauce is not as sweet as their regular spaghetti sauce and has a plenty of meat to balance out the acidity of the tomatoes.  Otherwise, I usually get their quarter chicken with meat sauce. You can request either a breast and wing or a whole thigh.  It's plenty of good food considering you could add a meatball for fifty cents, garlic bread for a quarter or a salad for a buck.

Other notable menu items to consider are their eggplant parmigiana and lasagna. These items are baked so they usually give you a number, and deliver it to your table when its ready. They are definitely delicious, especially because they come hot out of the oven. :)

If your looking for a good local spot for some good food at a good price, then Andre's is the way to go.

My dad has been coming here since the 70's when he first came to this country why because the food is delicious and cheap and for an immigrant teenager it doesn't get any better. as years passed and his situation improved he kept coming back why because the food is great and has not changed.  then I was born And my dad would bring me here and I have been coming here since. Now I'm 22 and I bring my boyfriend and friends here someday my kids. In an area where things are overpriced this place is not. the price is cheap you can get a full meal( salad entree dessert and a drink) for two for around $20
Delicious food, low price, and great ambiance

and for the snotty ppl complaining that they had better food in Italy slap yourself. it says it on the sign Italian American restaurant

I love this place as a matter of fact I'm going there today happy eating =)

I came here for the 4/5 star Yelp reviews and my nephew wanted spaghetti in this area and apparently the spaghetti with meat sauce is their specialty.  Seems like a lot of people come here because they might be frugal as they are giving 5 stars for an A-OK 3 star meal.

The spaghetti was good but not great. The line is super long that your expectations are set so high that if you expect too much, you will be disappointed.

Some people might describe the crowd at this divey, school cafeteria-like establishment as trashy, kind of what you would find at a Wal-Mart aka "value shoppers" or if you're not PC, you'll call this place "ghetto" -- large Latino families, teenagers, red necks, stinky with dandruff obese dude, and a few out-of-place Japanese-looking people... some might look like your local Hometown Buffet crowd (I've never been, but heard and envisioned what the crowd looks like who eats there).

I would recommend trying this place at least once to judge for yourself, if you have the patience for the extremely long line outside the door for a plate of inexpensive pasta ($5 for a small -- but very filling), yummy garlic bread (0.25), and salad.

The experience: fall in line, a very long line outside the door; pick up your tray and silverware; pick your beverage from beers, Pelligrino, Snapple, and sodas; pick a packaged dessert such as cheesecake, tiramisu, rice pudding;  pick your pasta or pizza; add a salad if you have the appetite; pay for your meal.  Maybe grab a gelato if you'd like dessert.  Find a seat in the restaurant or outside.

The best thing about this place is the garlic bread and the experience.

Many people on Yelp rave about this, so you might love it or you might hate it.

    Cash only.

Authentic and inexpensive....two words that come to mind for this "old school" Italian restaurant. There is nothing upscale about this place...the decor is straight fom the 70's era, but people who know come here for the food, not the ambiance.
The portions are not huge but they defenitely satisfy. I recommend the veggie lasagna.with large salad.
    For desert, Gelato of course!
I prefer to call in our order and pick up to avoid the long line(always packed) and having to eat with people from our parents generation(no offense mom and pop). A bottle of red wine to pair and your set!

My friend invited me here on a really nice Tuesday afternoon. Here's the truth, I had been craving Italian food for a very long time. I'm not much of an olive garden fan. I think their food is extremely salty and very oily. I always break out after going there, btw. I had previously heard of this restaurant but it was too expensive for me.

Man, I was right. The food was too damn expensive. A pizza slice was like 2 bucks and they were so small. I figured that with 3 extra dollars I could go next door to K-mart and buy me a large pizza from Little Cesars. As a matter of fact, now that I think about it I think it *was* the little cesars pizza. They must have transported in the morning through the 'trash' bins or someting.

I also got the lasagna. After the lasagna was eaten, my heart was filled with butter. It began to hurt and I was seriously on the verge of calling 911 on the spot. But my friend, who was so kind told me to wash it down with gelato which my heart hurt even more because I was dying of laughter. The garlic bread was so crunchy my teeth were hurting, and they were not warm!

After that I wanted to eat a tiramisu. That shit tasted like ass. It was filled with rum, that I was even queasy and a bit tipsied out when I was going back home.

Overall, its ok. But if you're eat a shitload like me, stay away from the greasy shit. Which means all of it.

Yummm~ I'm not a big fan of Italian food and don't actually prefer to eat it but this place is now my only exception... thus far.

The beef lasagna was delicious and cooked so thoroughly. It wasn't too cheesy which I loved, and it had just the right amount of sauce to it to make it fit all together.

The spaghetti with meat sauce was alright in my opinion. The sauce is a little different than the traditional, but still good. The chicken parmigiana is pretty much the same thing as the spaghetti with meat sauce, except with a piece of chicken.

Still a great place to check out! I'll definitely be back!

    Pros:
    1) Serving are large portions and their food is very good;
    2) No hassle!  You don't need to wait for your food at your table except some orders. Basically, you stand in line with the rest of the people.  As you approach the kitchen staff, you can choose pasta, a variety of sauces, baked chicken, and side orders.  It also comes with a side of salad and/or garlic bread.  Then, you can sit anywhere and enjoy your food;
    3) Reasonable price.

    Cons:
    1) Parking is a bit of a challenge;
    2) Line can be long and may overflow outside the entrance door;
    3) It can get crowded inside but you may dine outside where there are ample tables and chairs if the weather doesn't get too bad.

I used to come here a lot and recently went back after a few years away.  It's iike I remember.  Cheap, comfort food style Italian.  It's great for a large group because it's a cafeteria layout.  Grab a tray and then move down the line.  There's lots to choose from.  Pizza by the slice, pastas, sandwiches, soup, gelato, etc.  You can get small or large orders of some of the entrees.

My favorite is the SPAGHETTI WITH MEAT SAUCE.  The small is pretty generous and the large is insane.  I wasn't even in my chair yet and I started eating.  It's best to eat quickly; otherwise you'll start to see the pools of oil gather.  Yummy.  Also, make sure to try a piece of their amazing GARLIC BREAD.  At just a quarter each, they are worth their weight in carbs.

It's always crowded at Andre's and they don't take reservations.  It's not that kind of place.  But no worries there's a ton of seating inside and outside.  You can also get anything to go.  If you are ordering something to go, you can walk straight to the cashier to place your order.  I'll do that sometimes when the cafeteria line is too long and I just want to grab my food quickly and eat outside.

It's in the strip mall with the Whole Foods, right across from the Third Street Farmer's Market.  Cash Only.

    MMEEHH!

    Spaghetti with meat sauce?  Acceptable

Side Salad?  Soggy...  Soppy with too too much dressing

Pizza?  Cheap at $1.50... but seriously?

Don't expect to find fancy sauces, exotic ingredients, candlelit tables with red table clothes and dim lighting, there is no Sinatra cooing in the background, no dusty bottles of Italian wines, or pictures of the motherland. Andre's is not that kind of place, it is Italian comfort food, hearty, rich marinara sauces slathered over heaping piles of beautifully cooked pasta. It is about ravioli, spaghetti, garlic bread, large, gut busting servings at affordable prices.

Now this place is a hidden gem. I had heard about this place from a friend, but couldnt remember the name of it. I happened to pass by while walking my dog and remembered this was the place my friend recommended. Do not expect fancy italian or you will be disappointed. This place has large portions and the food is good. Tiramisu is good and so is the gelato. The spaghetti and meat sauce and meatballs are a must. Its like a high quality chef boyardee. This place only accepts cash so bring it.

You walk up and grab a tray and start moving down. They will ask you what you want and then bring it out to you if it requires cooking time. Get atleast 2 slices of garlic bread per person. The pizza is ok, but I would focus on the pastas. The parmigiana is just ok as well. I guess what I'm saying is stick with spaghetti, meatballs and meatsauce and garlic bread and you'll be happy.

By far my favorite place to eat in the city.
Awesome prices and even more awesome food.
Choose anything on the menu, you can't go wrong (My personal fave: half & half w/ marinara sauce, a salad, and when I'm extra hungry, a slice of mushroom pizza... mmmm!!).
    Cash only.
Expect a long line on the weekends (but it goes by pretty fast - since it's a cafeteria-style place) & parking kinda sucks on weekends too.
Other than that, this place is a gem.

This place was pretty easy and cheap. Quality comfort Italian. Very similar to Monte Carlo/Pinochios in Burbank. Cafeteria style food with many choices. Great outdoor seating area for pets, etc.

Easy to miss in a big parking lot across from the Grove. I know this area very well and drove by it like 3 times before I beat my GPS.

I've only had one thing on the menu here since I was probably about 5 years old; the spaghetti. And mama mia! itsa fantastico!

The place is set cafeteria style, where you go in line, grab a tray, and as you go down you tell em' what you want. Bada Bing! Simple.

I suggest getting the spaghetti, with the Mushroom sauce! It is honestly Coach Bombay! Although I do have a few friends who think otherwise, I've been getting this sauce since I was a kid. It kinda reminds me of a cacciotore' sauce my uncle used to make. I'm sure they use wine in the sauce, and its awesome when its paired up with the homemade orange colored garlic bread. Dunk suc

As a kid it was small little hole in the wall, and I'm so proud to see it still there with even more room, and a gelato stand! Andre's has had so many neighboring companies throughout the years, and for them to be the only ones still in that exact same spot, while all the other companies around it go out of business is just mind blowing.

Been coming here for around 10-12 years or when i was young. The spaghetti with meat sauce is very tasty ($5 for small, $7 for large), large is huge btw can feed 2 people. The garlic bread is so good and the salad dressing too. Sometimes i get the chicken and rice with meat sauce on top of it and it tastes good as well. I eat here once a week. The gelato is pretty good too.

Andre's is one of my go to places for a full meal on a tight budget. People come here and rave about the spaghetti w/ meat sauce. Honestly, I don't like the spaghetti here. I think it's because I've been spoiled with my mom's yummy spaghetti that I think nothing compares to it. Anyway, my usual order is the baked chicken with rice pilaf and steamed vegetables. Add a side salad with their own delicious dressing and  garlic bread, I've a got a meal that'll cost me about $6! To me, that is a bargain. Everytime I go to Andre's, there's a line outside the door. The wait isn't long though.
The employees are fast at getting people's orders (it's cafeteria style) and are friendly doing it. It may seem busy but I always find a spot to sit down. A good meal for a cheap price and friendly service make me a happy person :)

Cafeteria style Italian restaurant! I don't think I've ever been to one actually...so this was quite an interesting experience. I had a great time here with my high school friends though, and the food was homey and good! Prices are decent as well.

Get the spaghetti with meat sauce! The chicken parm was pretty good, as were the meatballs (pay by the meatball!). Grab a few pieces of garlic bread as well, and pick up a tiramisu for dessert! The gelato is homemade and creamy and delicious!

I was wayyy full from dinner. The food isn't gourmet but it'll hit the spot for sure. And for the price you pay, your wallet will be happy too. =) Just remember to bring CASH!

MMmmm Mmmmm gooooood. It's insane how such delicious food, and tons of it, can be so affordable!

Their pasta is homemade, as is the phenomenal meat sauce. You will be licking the plate! Don't forget the side salad, it's a hell of a lot bigger than a usual side salad and the dressing they toss it in... YUM!

Make sure you get the "small" pasta. Truuuust, it's NOT small.

You have to go into this place knowing that it is not a 5-star Italian restaurant...it's a great local Italian joint that always hits the spot. Andre's is a perfectly fine place to eat when you don't have a  lot of cash but you'd like something filling.

+ A-OK food at a good price. Tons of spaghetti on your plate and an awesome serving of garlic bread too.
+ Sodas only a dollar (cans)
    + Fast service
+ No thrills. Order ( cafeteria style ), sit down, *munch munch munch*, get up, go.
+ Whenever I get food here I always have enough to take home in a decently sized doggy bag.
    - Not super zomg orgasm delicious my taste buds are melting.
    - Sometimes long lines and screaming children.

This always reminds me of the kind of place you take grandma, because you don't really want to splurge and take her to the grove.

I loved it here. After visiting LACMA it's just the place you want to go to when you're hungry and just want good and cheap food in your system. Going in the restaurant reminds me of a cafeteria because it's a line and there would be people serving you food. I got the mushroom sauce with spaghetti. I got the size small and it was like a size large to me. I mean 5 dollars for a great plate of food. Can't you be any happier? It was simple and good. This is how  I think the restaurant is all about. You're in Los Angeles so majority of the place takes cash. (: Their gelato was also really good. Perfect texture!

Been a customer since I was 7 years old and never, ever does their marinara and meatballs w/ a side of garlic bread and italian sausage get old! Always leave satisfied!

While shopping in this plaza, I noticed there was a little Italian restaurant hidden off to the back so I decided to look it up on Yelp and was amazed to see the number of reviews Andre's has.

Reading over the yelp reviews, I knew exactly what i was going to order: large spaghetti with meat sauce and 2 meatballs (leftovers would be the bf's dinner). lil sis ordered the chicken parmigiana with ravioli and meat sauce.

i liked the concept of it being a simple cafeteria style restaurant - grab your tray, go down the line to place your order, pay and go seat yourself.
no frills but prices are really reasonable. overall, the food was ok. nothing spectacular and i actually didn't fall in love with the meat sauce or meatballs. it didn't taste anymore special than something i can whip up at home (and i'm no chef).  overall, theres nothing bad about andre's because for the price you pay, you do get a lot of food compared to other places but still not quite sure if i will return.

    mmm :) yummay spaghetti!!!

First time I tried this place! It was delicious!!!
I was kind of confused about the whole cafeteria style thing but I got it after a while. haha
I got their small spaghetti ($5) with Garlic bread ($1.50?) my friend got the half and half of spaghetti and ravioli. First off the SMALL isn't really a SMALL i ate half and was about to POP!!
I got the meat sauce which in my opinion was the best choice. Sooo good!!! I like my spaghetti ghetto style but this one was different their sauce isn't too thick or watery just perfect and you get the food in line and have to kind of walk around to find a seat which can be a problem if you are clumsy. I had to be EXTRA careful... haha
While in the cafeteria look-a-like line, you get to choose bunch of different dishes, the workers are so friendly and very nice! :)

I tried my friend's ravioli and it was SOO delicious! although he didn't think it was too great. It's like cheesy and has enough filling inside so it's not too doughyyy mmmm :)

I was too full to try their gelato, which they have inside the store. Seriously for the price it's the BEST THING EVARR!!! I've been to the Grove so many times but I've never came across this place before, thanks to my friend I finally tasted the "GOOD STUFF" in LA. haha
The down side is that they do have a LONG ASS line and you'd prolly have to wait a while, if youre hungry......... just be ready.

They do serve beer/wine! I'd expect them to not serve alcohol but they doo haha OH AND IT'S CASH ONLY!! remember!!!!! :)

Came here two weekends in a row. What can I say? It's just that good.

First things first: The restaurant is in the same plaza as K-Mart and Whole Foods Market, right across the street from the Grove, so don't go driving around like crazy looking for 6332. In the plaza, it is between Payless and Whole Foods, and you have to walk all the way in before you get to the door, where there might be a line even at 3 p.m.

My favorite thing about Andre's is its homey, casual environment that evokes the good old school cafeteria days. In other words, it isn't the typical sit down-and-order type of Italian place--you line up and pick up a tray, get utensils and drinks, and when you get to the entree part of the assembly line, you order what you want and they prepare the dish (unless it's lasagna or the special of the day) right in front of you, then you move on and get your salad, soup and garlic bread. Finally, you pay at the end of the line.
What's not to like about getting your food instantly?

My favorite food item here is the salad. The vegetable component is just like any other, but considerably fresher than most. However, Andre's special salad dressing makes it by far the best restaurant salad I have had. And this is coming from a person who doesn't even like salad dressing!
The first time we went, we had the small spaghetti with meatballs, 1/4 chicken with spaghetti, a large salad, two Snapples, and two garlic breads for a total of about $25. Anywhere else, this could have cost up close to $40!
Second time around, we had the chicken parmigiana (Saturday special), 1/2 and 1/2 (ravioli and spaghetti), large salad and two garlic breads for about $18 (but they forgot to charge for the last item).

Both times, the entrees and salads were equally good. I have no idea what else to say, other than you must get the salad! Oh, and the spaghetti, of course.

Everyone who works there is so friendly and efficient, even under all that pressure from everybody in line. What commendable service!

Oh, and for dessert... Gelato is available in the same place! But if you want only gelato, you can go right inside and buy it--don't wait in the food line!
