Neighborhood: Financial DistrictWhen you find a doctor that is not only professional and knowledgeable, but also passionate about their practice, you have struck gold my friends! I have just begun treatment with Dr. Schwerte for anxiety, as well as neck and back pain. After the first treatment alone, I felt better.
After my first visit, I was given homework to do in order to better understand my condition, and herbal and mineral supplements as well. This is a truly holistic approach to medicine that I definitely appreciate. I would highly recommend Dr. Schwerte to anyone considering acupuncture.

I give thanks everyday that I found Dr. Schwerte and his practice. I've always been a relatively healthy person with minimal doctor/hospital visits and don't really consider myself much of a hypochondriac. In the past year I started frequently waking up in the middle of the night and developing insomnia. These symptoms further developed into full-blown panic attacks and even depression. All of these ailments were completely new to me and the sheer confusion of what was happening to me was enough to push me further into instability.
Unaware of my options, I started regularly visiting my GP (western family doctor) and he spent about five minutes with me before telling me is "just anxiety" and that I need to "calm down". After a few more visits my doctor suggested "seeing a therapist" and he could "give me some pills to make me feel better." During this time none of these visits made me feel any better or sure of what was wrong with me. In fact, my family doctor's impatient and condescending manner left me feeling like I was losing my mind and making up these symptoms in my head. After a few months of worsening anxiety attacks and depression I gave in to my GP and took some SSRI antidepressants for fear that I had nowhere else to turn. The neglect of modern medicine and the awful spaced out feelings the pills were making me feel led to me to do some research on holistic medicine, acupuncture, and the benefits of an different approach to chronic disorders. After looking through medical sites, word of mouth, and yelp I found some glowing reviews for Dr. Andreas Schwerte and scheduled an appointment. It was the best thing I ever did.
The first visit to Dr. Schwerte alone is enough to improve anyone's health and outlook toward what they are going through. The first appointment with Dr. Schwerte took around two hours and included a thorough written questionnaire and tests/assessments and a lot of personal one on one time with the doctor. Dr. Schwerte will sit down and talk with you about all of your symptoms, your diet, your sense of well being, and anything else you'd like to share. He also listens with an open ear and will take anything you say into consideration, he makes you feel comfortable and positive about feeling healthy. After some tests and discussion Andreas suggested that I am suffering from Adrenal Fatigue (a common disorder caused by too much stress, I had been working two full time jobs, going to grad school, and was in a band!! Too much!) and began a program of supplements and acupuncture that got me off of the Antidepressants. These supplements work more effectively than prescription drugs and have almost zero side effects. Once I was off of the meds, I began a program of supplementation to repair my damaged adrenal glands.
There aren't enough good things to say about Dr. Andreas Schwerte, he is a dedicated healer that makes his patients a number one priority. His bedside manner is caring and comforting. Dr. Schwerte also mixes all aspects of medicine, nutrition, and lifestyle change; he can look at your blood work and talk about your thyroid levels, or he can administer acupuncture and encourage you to "lie down and just relax." Everything about this practice is positive, intelligent, and healing; his office manager Wendy rocks too! Not to mention, I moved to Pennsylvania during my treatment and Dr. Schwerte CONTINUED TO WORK WITH ME THROUGH EMAIL ON HIS OWN FREE TIME!!!
If you've been suffering form symptoms that ordinary doctors scoff at or simply throw pills at or if you're looking to explore holistic medicine for all of its glory and healing then start with Dr. Andreas Schwerte. Some insurance is accepted at his office, but not all. If not the appointments will run 100 for the first and 70 after which is well worth every penny and more. For all of his help for getting me off of antidepressants, fixing my anxiety and depression and leaving me feeling like my old self is invaluable and I thank Dr. Schwerte for that.
"Whoa. Marcel, you kind of look like sh*t - again. Still not sleeping?"
So went the conversation for months, with one of my closest friends. I've always been a poor sleeper. Taking hours to fall asleep, only to wake up in 20 minute intervals, when I finally did.
Finally I relented and gave Dr. Schwerte a call. It's the best thing I ever did. Andreas diagnosed my issues and began treatment right away. Sleeping issues - fixed. I can't believe I lived with it for 5 years!!!
I look forward to my weekly visits with Andreas, to hear his calming, "Now you relax for a little bit."
For first timers - don't be put off by the "spit" test.

You know the kind of doctor who has his hand on the doorknob while you are talking? THIS IS NOT ONE OF THEM! Someone who sits down and looks you in the eye while you spill your guts about very personal stuff? THIS IS THE MAN! It's immediately obvious that he is THERE for and with you. I went to see him on the recommendation of my chiropractor, who had helped me as much as he could, My regular doctor was hopeless. I am no longer taking pain relievers and my poor arthritic knees are 50% better! We are working to get them all the way better. If anyone can do it, Dr. Schwerte can!
when i strained my back last year for the millionth time, i wanted to explore other forms of healing so i decided to try accupuncture. not knowing where to start, i searched my trusty yelp for a good one and found dr. schwerte and saw what great reviews he got. i left messages for him and a few other clinics, and this was on a friday afternoon for a last minute appointment and he was the only one that called me back - and he called me himself! once i got there, he took a lot of time to get to know my issues with my back and did some accupuncture treatment that was both relaxing and very healing. i was so glad to find him and definitely recommend him if you're looking for a good doctor!

For a long time, I never really considered acupuncture as a methodology for relieving my 'worked' muscles. It's not that I viewed it as a bunk Eastern practice that would make me look like Hellraiser or that I would become faint at the sight of fine needles piercing my skin for the purpose of boosting my health and overall well-being.
Perhaps it was because various massage techniques and chiropractic care seemed to keep me tuned up in the past, or just that I lacked a trustworthy practitioner. Most likely it was a combination of that which I was unfamiliar, and I won't let just anyone stick it to me.
After suffering what was diagnosed as a repeated stress injury, an ailment best treated with rest, I was in need of finding a fast-acting, reliable, low risk and lasting treatment. Based on knowledge and experience, I knew that massage therapy was not intensive enough to get to the core of the pain in time for my next big performance. Additionally, the pain existed in soft tissue and was not induced by a misalignment in my skeletal structure. I am not one to simply pop a pill for an instant fix as it does not address the origin, but rather masks it. No thank you, I'd rather be one with the pain than slide in and out of ignorant bliss and anguish. I contemplated a range of potential cures and decided that acupuncture seemed to be the most credible choice.
My initial introduction to acupuncture was with the friend of a friend whom is a circus artist specializing in juggling. He entered the fine needles into specific points along my foot and ankle - of both feet (even though the injury was only expressed in one), tuned the needles to be in the apex of the point and then left the room so that I could slowly let the needles do their work. After a couple rounds, I felt completely at peace and the pain has considerably diminished. When it was time to perform a week later, I was 98% recovered. I was a believer.
I continue to push the limits of my physical capabilities and find that on occasion, acupuncture is an incredibly effective way to restore the equilibrium and energy flow throughout my instrument.
I was introduced to Andreas Schwerte by my massage therapist- http://www.yelp.com/bi... -who suggested acupuncture, at times, would be a more suitable remedy for reducing muscular tension and healing my body from the inside out. As a trusted source (and we all know recommendations are gold), I decided to take my massage therapist's advice and made an appointment to see Andreas. Typical Tiffany, spinning many plates at once, each at a high RPM, I was in need of relief just about everywhere. This was a sharp contrast from my prior experience with acupuncture and figured it would provide me with more information to verify if this technique was felicitous for the maintenance of my health and wellness.
Before administering any treatment, Andreas conducted a full assessment of my lifestyle, posture, activities, my tolerance for pain, needles, explained his ideology and wanted to know what questions I harbored. Proceeding with treatment, he continually checked in with me to ensure that he did not impinge upon my comfort zone as he felt it would have a negative impact on my experience. As my session progressed I could feel the tension dissolve, my muscles responding and a freer flow of energy passing through the channels of my body. My mind was completely at ease, serene, clear. I felt aware, balanced and strong. Absolutely incredible. I have been back on several occasions, for specific maladies as well as general realignment.
I highly recommend Andreas Schwerte, acupuncturist and Chinese medicine practitioner. He is extremely knowledgeable, intuitive, caring and sincere. He genuinely cares for the well-being of his clients and takes the time necessary to mitigate not only symptoms experienced, but more importantly the root of the condition.
His expertise and true benevolence holds a key (or dozens, rather) to free my Qi.

Just more than one year ago, I was referred to Dr. Andreas Schwerte by two independent parties: my great chiropractor, Dr. Dan Shapiro, and also a woman with whom I had studied pilates and yoga at my health club (Laura Putnam). I have ongoing issues with my sciatic nerve due to an ankle sprain and issues of pain on the left side of my body. Being in the perimenopausal phase of my life, I was also told that Andreas could assist me with that particular transition.
I have been seeing Andreas regularly (mostly every week) for nearly the past 1.5 years and here's what I absolutely love about him and his work. I can dash into his office in the middle of my hurried work day, briefly tell him what's going on with me and INSTANTLY he will know how to treat me, even if I cannot identify all my symptoms or issues. He is so well versed in the field of medicine (both oriental and western) and accupuncture that he intuitively and instinctively knows exactly what to do...and he's always right. Had I more time I would delve into the study of accupunture myself because Andreas has so peaked my curiosity about his work and its amazing benefits. Andreas and his accupuncture work has really helped me a lot.
Andreas truly cares about his patients and their overall well being and always makes the time in his busy days to tune into my particular health needs. Plus he's got a great sense of humor and is always up on the latest medical whatevers. How can you get a better doctor than that? Andreas will ease any fears you have about putting tiny needles in your body and his knowledge and reassuring presence will make you feel like you're the most important patient in his practice. His office is very restful and soothing with soft music and lavendar to calm any soul and spirit. Once/week I have 45 minutes of totally uninterrupted "Maryann time" and emerge from my sessions with Andreas feeling completely refreshed, restored and renewed. It's an amazing sense of well being everyone should have the opportunity to experience.
