I have had chronic sinus problems for 15 years. Dr. Yeung is the first doctor who has located the structural cause of the problem and offered a fix.
I always feel heard when I talk to her. She listens, responds to my concerns and provides thoughtful, excellent care. She has the best bedside manner of any doctor of I've ever dealt with.
I wish she could be my doctor for everything! -

The doctor is great - the wait time on her telephone number is pretty bad...

I trust her with my life. How's that for an endorsement?
Dr. Yeung embodies what it means to be a great doctor. She listens intently, asks pertinent questions and works a proper scientific method towards deducing what ails you and towards an appropriate approach for treatment. No assumptions or presumptions here. To top it off? She is a really good person to boot. I truly like her and her staff.
About two years ago, I came to her with sinus issues that had plagued me for well over a decade. Visits to other doctors and surgeons, including the Mayo Clinic, never provided anything other than temporary relief. (3 doctors, 2 surgeons, 2 surgeries) Dr. Yeung was the first I felt was truly invested in figuring out what was wrong, and reasoning out a proper treatment. I can also attest that we have reached the end of that road. It has been six months now that I have breathing freely and feeling good.
Thank you Dr. Yeung, for your dedication and grace. Your talents are greatly appreciated!
------------- NOTE ----------------
A additional comment about the reviews here and one small negative:
1) elizabeth h. gave a 1 star review because of a mixup over a CO-PAY from 2009? And she's writing said review in 2011? What a load of crap that is. First off, what is a co-pay? $20? Is that really what it takes to vilify someone's professional service? Talk about "unprofessional and lame". Hey Elizabeth: How about calling your bank for your records if the $20 means so much to you, and then try getting over yourself because you've never made a mistake before. You've been served.
2) What "elizabeth h" says actually has a nugget of truth in it. I too have had some accounting problems. Once, I distinctly remember paying my copay in cash. I had the receipt, left it on my counter like I do for a while...and then threw it out (or so I remember, right?). Later I was billed for the same $20. So now I *always* pay with a credit card...so if I need to go back and check my records its a piece of cake. A minor ding for their business process not being 100%...or maybe my (and Elizabeth's) memory sucks. YMMV. -

Dr. Yeung was awesome. I highly recommend her.
I was pretty sure that I had barotrauma from diving in Cozumel. Diver's Alert Network didn't give me a good recommendation for SF, so I found her via yelp. Thanks for the reviews!
I had a full hearing test with another doctor, then saw Dr. Yeung.
Diagnosis: barotrauma with crappy Eustacian tubes. Likely my Eustacian tubes didn't develop properly when I was kid because of all the ear infections I had, so I probably have a bunch of scaring in them. Follow up: another hearing test in 6 months to make sure that the nerve has healed.
Essentially, she said I can dive, but will have to take a steroidal nasal spray for a few weeks before diving, take Sudafed and Afrin when I dive and use vented ear plugs (she was totally ok with those, just told me to make sure that they were properly fitted and properly inserted). Wowza. Quite a lot to do to dive, but I love diving. It will so be worth it. I guess it's a good thing that I live in SF and stubbornly refuse to dive in any water that isn't tropical! :) Means I'll probably be diving 1-2 times a year, max. I can handle that.
My philosophy is to avoid drugs as much as possible. In my normal everyday life, I'll be using a lot of saline nasal spray (everyday) along with hot tea and will continue to clear my ears and Eustacian tubes.
If you've gone diving and had problems or are concerned about diving, go see her. She at least is a certified diver, even if she hasn't gone diving in awhile! Also, she was mentioning how she did see a lot of patients who were doing free diving (down to 120 ft - yikes!) and she's successfully treated them.
Good luck. -

Dr Yeung is one of my favorite doctors of all time. I went to her for a second opinion last year before having surgery on my sinuses and deviated septum and ended up having her do the surgery instead of my original doctor.
Her office is very efficient and well run and confirms everything in great detail via email. Dr Yeung is very smart and knowledgeable and has excellent bedside manner. She explains everything in great detail and is, in her own words, "conservative" in terms of the treatments that she recommends. I did end up needing surgery and she did a great job with the surgical procedure as well.
I recommend Dr Yeung highly whenever any friends or coworkers are looking for an ENT. -

Dr. Yueng is simply AMAZING!
From my first visit to my most recent I have been amazed with Dr. Yueng and her staff.
I went to Dr. Yueng with a very large perforation in my right ear... I'd lived with this for some time and wasn't sure what the fix would be, but knew I had to do something.
Dr. Yueng reviewed with me all the procedures available and the risks associated with each. I opted for the Tympanomastoidectomy with Possible Ossicular Chain Reconstruction.
Dr. Yueng used the really big impressive words (see above) that doctors love to throw around, but then broke it down into the basics that I could understand (loved that!).
She also actually sketched out how my ear currently looked and what with success my ear would look like afterwards.
I had never had surgery before and was very nervous about my first time. As my procedure was technically elective (I could have continued to live with the perforation and symptoms if I chose to) there was no need to rush into anything and unlike most doctors today Dr. Yueng was in no hurry to schedule surgery and really went over the pros and cons with me. I have to say that if I it had been any other surgeon I don't know that I would have gone ahead with the surgery. There is just something about Dr. Yueng that makes you trust in her skill and that she has your best interest first and formost in mind.
The day of the surgery Dr. Yueng made sure to see me before surgery to go over any last minute questions or concerns (or to see if I'd chicking out)... as the anesthesia kicked in the last thing I remember was Dr. Yueng looking down telling me everything would be fine (and it was).
I won't bore you with the details (however exciting they were) of my coming out of anesthesia, however I will say that Dr. Yueng came by several times to see how I was doing. I was in the recovery room for longer than expected, but Dr. Yueng kept checking in and was great!
During the recovery process I will admit I was very HIGH maintenance. I am not good with the unfamiliar (particularly when it comes to my body), and was in her office or emailing Cherilynn her surgical coordinator (who by the way is AWESOME) more times then I probably needed to. Never once did Dr. Yueng ever appear bothered by my numerous visits or questions (which were many).
I am now several months out of surgery and have healed extremely well and am extremely happy with the results. My hearing improved (an added benefit thanks to Dr. Yuengs amazing skill).
There is a word that I use (rarely) to describe exceptional people... that word is Grace.
Dr. Yueng exemplifies Grace in the manner that she treats her patients (with compassion and skill that is surpassed by none) Dr. Yueng sees beyond the procedure and sees the person. She is not just a surgeon, she is a healer.
If only she were a GP, I'd be extremely happy... lol.
I wish there were more people is this world like Dr. Yueng, if there were, this world would be a much better place.
Thanks again to Dr. Yueng and all her staff for the amazing treatment!

I was referred to a ENT doctor and I checked on yelp for who had some excellent reviews. Dr. Yeung was at the top of the list and was also in my network. I called her office and told the receptionist my symptoms. She asked for a formal referral. As soon as the referral was received I was called immediately. I was given an appointment the following morning.
Dr. Yeung was engaged with my situation from the beginning. She was sincerely concerned and asked all the right questions to assess the problem.
After a thorough examination, she recommended a CT scan, had her office seek approval from my insurance, and squeezed me into an early morning appointment the next day.
I spent an hour at the next appointment, she took her time and referred me to another specialist. I wish all doctor experiences were like this one. -
Review from N B.

I have to echo other sentiments here by saying that Dr. Yeung is one of the best doctors I have ever had. She doesn't make any extreme comments, she has a very personable and down-to-earth "bedside manner", she doesn't make off-the-cuff diagnoses, and she takes the least invasive route first. She is experienced.
I went to her first for a sinus issue I had a couple of years ago, and more recently after a head trauma that resulted in a case of vertigo (it's an inner ear issue in case you don't know), I went to her to see what could be done about it.
After my office visit, the vertigo was gone! I felt that she was realistic in telling me that doing things like yoga could possibly bring it back, but I feel so much better knowing I know someone who can "fix" it.
I would highly recommend her for any ear, nose and throat issues you might have. -

As a fellow physician, I have worked professionally with Dr. Yeung over the past 10 years. I have referred innumerable patients to her and she has cared for them with the utmost attention and competency. I know personally that she is a stellar physician and surgeon and tremendously caring and conscientious individual. Of the thousands of doctors I have interacted with in my career, she ranks in the top few. As a prospective patient, you would do well to be under her care.

This review is for the billing/accounting dept. I actually had a great visit with Andrea Yeung, who checked and cleaned my surfer clogged ears. The accounting dept lost my co-pay, lost my insurance card and it took over a year for them to contact me about it. Now I'm having to pay my co-pay TWICE because I can't find my debit record from 2009. That or they are threatening to refer me to a collection agency for their sloppiness.

Review from Brandi B.
San Francisco, CA
Bottom Line: Dr. Yeung is the gold standard for surgeons. Enough said.
Background:
(Full disclosure - this review is by Brandi B's husband, Steve.) This review documents my experience with Dr. Andrea Yeung and her practice at San Francisco Otolaryngology. Dr. Yeung performed an elective tonsillectomy on me at age 35.
Initial Consult Experience:
For years, I've known something was not "right" with my ENT health, and my tonsils were suspect #1. I rarely see doctors. The few doctors I have seen prior somehow missed the clues to problems with my tonsils.
One night I decided was enough was enough with these ongoing problems in my tonsils, cervical lymph nodes, and ears. I decided to find an ENT to discuss my concerns. I choose Dr. Yeung as the first ENT to visit based on positive feedback here on Yelp. (Hey, I trust the opinions of actual patients over golfing buddy recommendations from other doctors or lowest bidder recommendations from insurance.)
During a very thorough hour-long initial consult, Dr. Yeung attentively listened to my concerns. Unfortunately, I was getting over bronchitis on the day of my initial consult. An urgent care clinic had proscribed a 5 day Z-Pac, so my usual symptoms were mostly gone. Dr. Yeung could have easily dismissed me as being a hypochondriac, given my tonsils and lymph nodes were very small after 5 days on a Z-Pac. Nevertheless, Dr. Yeung listened and actively interviewed me to determine that the tonsils were possible candidates for removal. Based on her observations and interviews, she validated there was a real issue here.
Admirably, Dr. Yeung makes it very clear that tonsillectomy in adults is no joke. She admitted that a surgeon will naturally gravitate toward surgical intervention. Yet, she offered other non-surgical solutions for him to regularly debreed the tonsil crypts. She made it very clear that the recovery would not be easy, and the results would be likely worthwhile but not totally life changing. Her honesty and transparency were key factors in our decision to have the surgery. Ultimately, my wife and I felt inflammation on a chronic basis was not healthy, and we had confidence in Dr. Yeung after spending an hour with her.
Also of note, Dr. Yeung extracted a hardened "cast" of earwax from my right ear that may have taken years to accumulate. Amazingly, other doctors never mentioned the fact that his right ear could not be visualized. The sensation of being able to hear again properly was a nice bonus to this appointment. Dr. Yeung recommend some OTC treatments to avoid the build-up again. Nicely done.
When I explained a unique personal situation for scheduling, Dr. Yeung walked me over personally to conference in her billing/scheduling staff to make it work. Her entire practice felt it was an important issue because it was important to me.
Pre-Op Appointment:
I saw an Nurse Practioner at San Francisco Otolaryngology for his pre-op. The NP was very personable and gave great advice on recovery tips.
Day of Surgery:
Dr. Yeung arrived punctually to the prep area with a positive, upbeat attitude. I felt very calm climbing onto the OR table with Dr. Yeung in charge. The coblation bilateral tonsillectomy went smoothly and finished on time. I woke up in recovery with surprisingly less pain than expected. I remember Dr. Yeung saying I she used a local on my throat to buy me some extra time from pain in the initial few hours after surgery. Swallowing ice water and percocet tablets was way easier than I thought it would be. I had expected to wake up to the sensation of glass shards in my throat. Dr. Yeung stopped my about an hour post-op and confirmed the tonsil crypts were very deep and warranted removal. It was nice to hear that validation - it helps to make the pain seem worthwhile. I asked her which procedure she had used - I was relaxed to hear coblation. I had read that coblation was a much less painful recovery over electrocautery procedures. I had been hesitant to ask beforehand - didn't want to psyche myself out and decided to trust my surgeon's judgement on how to do surgery. It was still good to hear she used a more progressive technique.
Post-Op Appointment:
Once again, Dr. Yeung was very positive on candid at my post-op appointment. She listened and answered my entire list of questions I had compiled over a week sitting in bed. Pathology reported a minor complication with the tonsils, and Dr. Yeung was very encouraging about the prognosis and treatment. I laughed when she said the bad news was 3 weeks on antibiotics. I told her bad news would only be going back into surgery and undoing 7 days of nursing the scabs in the back of throat.
Outcome:
So far, I am 100% happy with my decision to have my tonsils removed and 100% satisfied with Dr. Yeung as my surgeon. My overall health should improve in the long run. Thank you, Dr. Yeung! -

Dr Yeung gave me the information I needed to better understand what's been plaguing me since I was a child. I didn't get the diagnosis I was hoping for (tympanoplasty) but she did put me on the right track for helping solve my discomfort.
I did not have very good experiences with the staff, including the manager, however, thus one less star. If Dr. Yeung were at an office with a better support team (perhaps one that doesn't interrupt a client appointment to ask about a lunch request!), she'd have gotten 5 stars for being thorough and understanding. -

Dr. Yeung took my tonsils out. It wasn't fun, but she was professional, answered all of my questions, was very knowledgeable about everything that I asked about, and really gave me a sense that she cared about my well being.
I would recommend her to anyone looking for a good ENT doctor, especially if you might be up something as serious as surgery. She made a painful experience as good as it could have been.
Plus, she cured my sleep apnea. What more could I ask for? -

Those who know me knows i hate doctors. I hate how the ones I've dealt with seem to know everything before they even take the time to talk to me. I've hated doctors and all that they think they are.
But today i visited Dr Yeung, and she is one of the few that is an exception to how i feel about doctors. First taking the time to make it work for me to drop by her office. Meeting Dr Johnson also who also was very down to earth and listened to what i had to say.
Then to take the time out to clearly explain all of my options rather then push me towards the one that is most profitable for her. I loved the non condescending tone and you get a real feeling that she cares to make sure you do what is best for you.
I'm sorry Dr. Yeung but it's hard for me to trust doctors so I'm going to be bothering you for any medical advice. -

Dr. Yeung was great! Got a piece of wax stuck in the ear after swimming in the ocean and she popped it right out. Went from vertigo to perfect in moments!
And she seemed to genuinely care about my well being!
Great office, great staff, if i ever have more strange objects stuck in my ear I'm going back! -

Dr. Yeung is fantastic. She's very nice and understanding and she makes you feel comfortable right away. She's not condescending but is very smart and I trust her completely! Her staff is friendly and it's easy to get an appointment set up.
I've seen Dr. Yeung four times now for various throat/sinus problems and she's been great. -
Review from Ferol A.

LOVED Dr. Yeung. I had been battling terrible sinus and throat problems for months and months thinking it was allergies, too much partying, not enough sleep, stress...anything and everything. Within a couple of visits she figured out what the likely culprits were. After a few months on her regimen of Nasonex and Pepsid AC, I am a new woman. It's nice not to have a runny nose every time I kiss my husband! Props to Dr. Yeung.

I made an appointment with Dr. Yeung because I've been looking for a new ENT, and she had the best Yelp reviews.
I came from my first appointment this morning, and I have to say that the consistent five-star ratings are well deserved. What a great doctor! She's so friendly, helpful, and informative.
As a singer, she's the best ENT I've ever had. She asks what kind of singing you do, what your range is, what training you have, problems you've had with your singing voice, etc... I've been to several ENTs before, and not one has ever done more than say "Oh, you're a singer, huh?" If you sing, and you need an ENT, give Dr. Yeung a call.
The only thing that upsets me is that she cannot be my primary care physician too! -
Review from Joyce S.

I was referred to Dr.Yeung from an oral surgeon in the same building on the same day.
Dr. Lyu (also a very good doctor) called down to see if they could see me asap and without hesitation, I was in their waiting area.
Unfortunately, I did need surgery, and ended up participating in a case study for this procedure that was done in the office rather than a surgery center or hospital. There were many advantages in this for me and
Dr. Yeung was honest about the whole process and very caring during the procedure and after care.
Just goes to prove, good things do come in small packages! -

Review from Amanda S.
San Francisco, CA
Dr. Yeung is hands down the best doctor I've ever had. I realized my primary care doctor was falling short and in the interim she has basically been my internist in addition to treating my chronic illnesses. She has a great bedside manner and really takes the time to understand the big picture and to empathsize, which research shows has a healing effect in and of itself.
She is compassionate and most recently helped me keep my new year's resolution by being supportive of my wish to try more holistic healing practices such as yoga, meditation and non-pharmaceutical treatments. When a culture showed I had a staff infection I thought well there goes my resolution for 2011, but she didn't give up and over the course of several office visits and after-hours calls she gave me the courage and strength to wait for my body's own immune system to do its job. Ultimately it did and had it not been for her honest, patient and professional treatment I would have certainly been on yet another course of antibiotics.
Her office is seriously fun and who likes going to the doctor, really? Jennifer her assistant is is always cheerful and you can rest assured that she will take care of whatever you need and get back to you in a timely manner.
If you need an ENT look no further. She's the best ever. I'm so grateful to have found her. -

Dr. Yeung and the office are amazing. I was referred by my primary physician who insisted I use that office. Now I know why. The doctor was fabulous. She actually apologized for being 2 minutes late for my scheduled appointment time. The office is calm, friendly, obviously well-run.

This doctor is a pure genius. My son had a rare birth malformation that grew like a tumor. We had seen SEVEN doctors trying to sort out my son's issues from the time of his birth, until he was 2.5 years old. Dr. Yeung diagnosed his issue within five minutes of examining him, and he is thriving after surgery now.
She was kind, down to earth, and above all else, exceptionally competent. -

I woke up with the world's worst sore throat, enough to get me to see a Dr. which is rare. I don't know any Drs. in the bay area so I turned to Yelp. I found Dr. Young! I called at 10:45am and she could see me by 12pm. Turns out it was strep throat. I was in and out by 12:15 and not because I was rushed. There was no wait and she answered every question I had. She sent my prescription to the pharmacy of my choice while we were chatting and even offered to prescribe something for my boyfriend who was visiting from out of town as a prophylactic if he needed it (which he didn't). I will definitely go back to her in a heartbeat but hopefully I won't have to!

Dr. Yeung performed the first surgery I ever had on March 11, 2010. I had a septoplasty, sinuplasty, polypectomy performed. Going in I was a little nervous as I did read about some experiences online. I've had trouble breathing and had virtually no sense of smell for most of my life. She made sure to try other methods before we went to surgery but in the end we both knew that was the best option. One year later and I feel great. I've been able to breathe so much better and it's feels as tho I've been able to exp life with a whole diff perspective. Thanks!

Dr. Yeung is an excellent ENT doctor. I have seen her a couple of times for chronic sinusitis and she has been very helpful. Dr. Yeung is at the top of her game. I've seen her several times for a couple of different problems and each time she gives 110%, or rather takes the time to give you a clear, honest assessment and feedback. Being a great communicator and passionate about her work puts Dr. Yeung in a class with few others.

I wish I was sent to her first. I was misdiagnosed by Dr. Rastani. I was sent on a referral for my sore throat which was not getting better. I have been up for two weeks worried. Then, I got a referral for Dr. Yeung. She was so helpful today. I highly recommend her. She was thorough and to the point. Thank you so much! The only problem I had was with the billing. You should make your co-payment right away otherwise, they will bill you again and again-even after you pay.

I just got back from my very first appointment with Dr. Yeung. I'm a professional Voice Over Artist and Singer and was feeling a bit freaked out about losing my voice, to say the least. A friend referred me to another doctor in the practice but when I called (isn't it ironic... it's sort of hard to call to make an appt when you don't have a voice;)...anyway, when I called and eeked out to the receptionist that my voice is my career - she said Dr. Johnson (who I was recommended to) wasn't for another 3 days but Dr. Yeung had a cancellation for that same evening! And I thank god she was available! She was brilliant! She took her time, listened to me (or actually read what I wrote as I couldn't talk well) and made me feel very well taken care of. She completely understood that this is my livelihood and examined my throat (big screen) and offered options of what to do. (I had a bacterial infection so opted for antibiotics and vocal rest but a cortisone shot was offered in case I had to do a gig). In any case, I wanted to find a great ENT to establish a good relationship with in SF and I found her! I have a feeling all the other doctors are excellent there as well but I'm very happy with Dr. Yeung and I will definitely see her again:)

Dr. Yeung is a very knowledgeable and caring doctor. She explains everything thoroughly, and cares for her patients above and beyond ENT issues.
She seems to be one of those young doctors who got a position at a pretty prestigious private practice. Only caution I'd say is as with any young physician, if you need them to perform surgery, ask how many times they've done the procedure before, what their experience with it is, etc...
But I'm a loyal patient. -

One of the best doctors I've seen.
Dr. Yeung is personable, thorough, an astute diagnostician, very logical, a very clear communicator, and compassionate. I couldn't recommend this doctor more highly!
I have seen her twice over the years for separate issues, and each time she was unhurried, asked perceptive questions, clearly explained the different potential causes of my symptoms, recommended what to do very clearly, and told me what would happen if the treatment did not cure my symptoms. I left the office feeling understood, informed, and well cared for.
Her office staff (scheduling & nurse) are efficient, friendly and helpful.
I have had to wait 15-20 minutes both times I was there, though I was taken to the exam room and saw the nurse immediately. That is the cost of having a doctor who is unhurried and thorough when she is with you, so I would just plan for that, take a zen moment, and be thrilled for the SUPERB care. -

Dr.Yeung is competent, caring, and consistent. I've had an ongoing ear issue for the past two years and have dealt with all types of western doctors, as well as alternative methods like accupuncture and chiropractic work. Finally, I feel like I'm getting to the root of the problem thanks to Dr.Yeung's intelligent and careful approach.
I highly recommend Dr.Yeung, and as far as the front desk staff--they've been very accommodating and friendly so I'm confused as to why there are a few reviews slamming them. Perhaps this was once an issue but I've been to the office several times now and they've been pleasant and even understanding when I was 45 minutes late for an appointment. -
