I've been going to Andrea for a couple years now, referred to her by my chiropractor for chronic pain from a. She's been a good combination of gentle and firm. I've been so happy getting gentle massage from her that feels simultaneously deep-reaching. No matter what my aches and pains, Andrea listens and is so effective!

Last fall I took an intensive massage therapy course, and find it's really increased my awareness of my own body and of what I want from massage. And, because of this, I appreciate Andrea all the more. My aches aren't as chronic anymore, but the fact that I regularly zone out in a happy bliss, and even fall asleep for a few minutes, reminds me that I trust this massage therapist, and enjoy being a client with her.

I hope to book on Saturdays in the future. She's close to the 57 bus at Lakeshore / Grand Av, but with my 9-5 work schedule, it seems less hectic to aim for a more relaxing Lakeshore walk on the weekend!

I just went to Andrea for the first time. I have been looking for a M.T. that I could "go back" to... (no pun intended) for quite some time. I have done the "onsies" and "twosies' for years... either being disappointed out the gate or not quite "feeling it" after a couple of tries.

I decided to go for it and book a two hour massage the first time. I really needed to be worked over and kick start some body wellness. I felt totally comfortable with this initial investment of money and time for the following reasons:

    1) My fellow yelpers - thanks guys! Great reviews that gave me confidence.
    2) Andrea's website: clear and simple. I could get a good idea of the space, cost and type of massage she does.
    3) proximity to my location - easy to get to and park.
    4) online booking - in the comfort of my home I was able to review her availability, compare it to my insane calendar and book her all in about 5 minutes.

The massage.... wow.... she listens, she gets it and she works her magic. What more do you want?

Andrea is now my 'go to' for massage - I will not be looking elsewhere...

I really enjoyed my outstanding experience with Andrea Turner. For the past 6 or 7 years I have been a frequent massage recipient. That means that I have worked with a lot of therapists in that time frame.

So, when I say that Andrea is in my list of Top Two therapists, It means a lot. Why was it a phenomenal session? Andrea is:

    1. A good listener - she seeks to understand any and all concerns and adapts to your needs.
    2. Thorough - let her know where a muscle kink is and she will release it.
    3. Great at follow up - As I mentioned, I've had numerous massages over the years. Andrea is the first person to ever ask me how I was doing on the next day. That is going above and beyond. That's first-class customer service in my book.

One other thing. Her therapy suite provides the ambiance that is needed for a great massage. When you step into her suite, it is a world of a difference from the neighborhood and her fellow building tenants.

    Andrea Turner deserves an A++

I met Andrea at a Oakland Magazine party and really liked her energy.  Through our interact a couple of weeks later I set up a massage.

Andrea was amazing.  She has great hands and she is very attentive.  I loved her room and the feel of the whole experience.

I would recommend Andrea to anyone looking for a great massage therapist!

I couldn't be happier with my massage experience. I love how organized Andrea is and the convenience of her booking system. She brilliantly used technology to give me all the information I needed and answer my questions. Booking my appointment and completing my new client form took less than 5 min. and was done completely online. She greeted me warmly when I arrived & really listened to what I wanted. Her space is beautiful, simple and very comfortable. Best of all she delivered a fantastic massage! I felt so relaxed and serene when I left, the massage was just fabulous! I highly recommend Andrea and will definitely be back!

Much like another reviewer, I'm going to have to say this is a style-mismatch.    I've seen somewhere around 10 massage therapists over the last ten years.    What works best for me is very deep tissue work, and/or rolfing.

Andrea gave a very very relaxing massage.    But what I was seeking was more therapeutic than relaxation if that makes sense.

As a person, the space, the booking system - all wonderful - I was just seeking something more therapeutic.

Wow.  I am really surprised by all these people talking about Andrea's light, non-therapeutic massages.

I typically hate massages, especially the Zen-like, "touchy all over" massages. I also don't get yoga. I guess I'm not into this relaxation thing.  I went to Andrea for one purpose and one purpose only - to regain strength in my quads so I could run a second marathon in a two-week period. I told her that if she was gentle, I'd ask for my money back.

Gentle, Andrea was not. Her sports massage was just what I needed.  With just a few quick manipulations, Andrea could tell that my left IT Band was way out of whack. She yanked it back into place. I can assure you, the process was not relaxing nor gentle, but it was oh-so-necessary. I was in pain for about two days after the massage, and I'm not the delicate type. I was impressed by Andrea's ability to tell that my IT Band needed attention STAT, that certain other muscles were also overtaxed, and that others were just peachy.

Also, she followed up with me over email a few days later. I've never had that happen before.

I'm sure Andrea is great with the touchy-feely, relaxing massages as well. Those just aren't my thing. But if you want a great sports massage, book with Andrea and tell her not to be shy with the hurtin'.

I saw Andrea for two massages before my wedding; basically I went once when I was turning absolutely stressed-out crazy and scheduled my next appointment on the spot...yes, long before the post-massage stupor had even worn off.

Andrea is just lovely, amazing, and totally helped me de-stress.  An absolute body necessity!  I will be returning SOON.

ps.  Her online system is da bomb; I even managed to use it from my smartphone! I'm on her newsletter list and even love THOSE...all helpful and not spam-like in frequency.  She's just all around awesome; that massage room is like a little piece of heaven.

Update: If you haven't noticed or heard, Andrea's studio has moved to 580 Grand Ave. A great space! Apparently, this new space is NOT shared by other massage therapists, and Andrea has more liberty with her appointment scheduling system. Also, the building is great, has indoor bike parking and has a shower facility on premises for those coming directly from working out or exercising, etc.

Congratulations to Andrea on moving to this awesome new space!

    ------------

Listen folks, this is long overdue from me.

I've been procrastinating writing a review for Andrea simply because I can't praise her more than anyone else here already has.

    She's great.

First bit of advice: you're not going to want anything shorter than a 90 minute massage. Oh, I'm sure the 30 minute and 60 minute options are just as relaxing, but you're just going to want more.

My girlfriend (now wife) bought me the 90 minute treatment as a congratulations gift for finishing the AIDS ride this past June. I couldn't have asked for anything better. (One of the reasons I married her!)

Having been a volunteer masseusse for the AIDS ride in the past, Andrea knows what needs to be known about the aches and pains of a cyclist (and from what I understand, all other athletes in general).

Her mix of various techniques (Swedish, deep tissue, etc.) put me in that spot between being asleep and being awake. A lucid dream is what I was in once her hands started going to work. Firm yet smooth and soft. She customized her style based on what the state she found my muscles to be in once she got to each one.

The studio space in which she works is warm and comfortable as it should be. Her music selection was great - relaxing, but not the typical nature/whale/water sounds as played by most massage therapists I've been to. It was actually 'hip' but professional.

And speaking of her studio and cycling, the former was quite accomodating to the latter. I was able to lock up my bike in the courtyard of her building for 90 minutes, sheltered from the lurking danger of it being stolen out on bustling Telegraph Ave. Yet another one of her ways of getting you to relax and enjoy the massage.

She's also great for those who give and receive referrals.  I believe it's $20 off when you tell a friend!

I'm looking forward to my next visit to her; and 90 minutes of heaven on earth.

I was hesitant to write this review because I think it was just a style mismatch more than anything else. First off, Andrea was welcoming, kind, helpful in scheduling, and has a beautiful work space on Grand Avenue. Based on reviews here, I got a 90 minute massage to celebrate Thanksgiving break. Here is the mismatch: I maybe should have scheduled a deep tissue massage because I felt that the touch was very light. On my back I like a very firm massage. Probably 15 minutes in, Andrea asked me if pressure was okay and I asked for more pressure. I have been playing sports lately and maybe I am just toughened but I didn't feel more pressure. Andrea also has a very therapeutic technique where she holds poses(?is that what they are called?) for a while whereas I would prefer a more fluid pace. I didn't mention this though because it felt like a stylistic issue more than a situational one.

There were some moves that felt great, like some work she did on my neck but other things felt sort of soothing but not that relieving or great.

All that said, I had an extremely relaxing massage and even fell asleep (something I have never done before at a massage) and hence missed out on probably the last 15 minutes or so. I guess I was looking for a massage that worked me and my muscles out more than this one did. This was relaxing but did not physically alter any tight muscles to my knowledge.

Again, I wouldn't want my review to dissuade anyone because obviously this style is great for many people, it just wasn't what I was looking for.

I am scheduled to run a marathon in two weeks,  but Saturday I tweaked my back helping pull out a gardening spike.  (I know, I know...how silly).   I went to Andrea looking for relief from pain in my hamstrings and back, and she did a great job of pin-pointing the problem spots.  I'm not 100% yet, but I'll be back to normal in a couple of days.   Plus I had the added benefit of being in that lovely, blissed out and relaxed state after I left.   Thank you, Andrea!

Andrea is a warm, easy going person and her workspace is beautiful and soothing. I really like her online booking and confirmation system. Her massage style is different than any I have experienced before. From my perspective, it felt like she used pressure points mixed with stretching muscles and positioning muscles for the best effect. I am not trained in this area so my verbiage may not be correct, but this is what it feels like. And most importantly, I left without pain. I drive a lot and have neck kinks and lower back pain fairly often. I leave Andrea feeling renewed, pain free and refreshed. I can't recommend her enough.

I've had massages from many people, but Andrea truly understand the physics and mechanics of how your body functions. This is crucial because she can make adjustment to how she massages you as you frequent her. Having her in my team of excellent life-infrastructure is priceless. Once you find the massage person you love, you want to hold onto that person for as long as you can, just like the person who cuts your hair because they know you better than yourself. The biggest difference between the hair cutter and a masseuse for me, is that I get a same haircut every time and I don't have to worry about getting a bad one. Massage, on the other hand, needs to be different depending on what issues that are chronic, flairing up, etc. Andrea is someone who can figure this out and adjust how and what needs to be massaged.

Massage people are crucial and integral part of anyone's life-infrastructure (these are the people who take care of various services so that you can enjoy your wellness, physical, mental or both). Without them there would be many unhappy people in pain (me included.). So if you need to cut down on expenses, few fast food purchases and crappy magazines BUT get more massages from Andrea. You'll thank me later.

Thanks, Yelp. I hate to make Andrea even more booked, but after three weeks of not being able to move my neck, Andrea fixed me right up. The online booking makes it all that much easier to get your massage fix.

I agree with the folks who say she's not the person for super deep tissue, but there are other places to go in the neighborhood if you need serious kneading (see my review for Doug @ Body, Mind). Andrea is a great regular masseuse.

After a brutal week of starting my workout routine, I called Andrea in hopes she could soothe my broken body.  She made all of my knots disappear, using her trigger point technique.  It was absolutely amazing! She has an incredible touch, managed to work out my kinks and  even push a few of my snore buttons!

One of the things I was impressed with was her consultation.  She had me fill out a form addressing all concerns and then asked me to stand so she could check my posture, something no massage therapist has ever done.

Her follow up with me after the appointment was awesome, she discussed my problem areas and made some recommendations.

I highly recommend Andrea, you'll love everything about her right down to her cute little southern accent!  She's converted me into a regular massage client!

Southern belle with hands of steel!

I went to Andrea after hearing about her through many friends for about a year. I was so happily surprised that this small, soft-spoken woman could really work a knot out when necessary.

She made me feel at home from the moment I walked in to her space. I relaxed immediately and nearly fell asleep while she was working on me!

I am a picky massage client, and I will definitely be back to see Andrea. She was attentive, relaxed, focused and kind. I felt amazing when I left, and the feeling lasted for days.

My body was a wreck:  back and calves tight, shoulders tense and generally broken.  I was looking for a deep tissue massage to help loosen up the kinks.

Although her massage is soothing it wasn't what I was looking for, which was a firmer, deeper massage.

Her space is relaxing and she's able to put you at ease right away.

I have to agree with the reviewer that stated you should skip the 30 and 60 minute options and go straight to the 90. I had a 60 minute hot stone massage and at 59 minutes and 59 seconds I felt the way Yogi and Boo Boo must feel every year when the first crocus pops open in Jellystone Park and they know they must emerge from their comfy hibernation and commence with the pick-a-nick basket stealing. Meaning, I was so relaxed I think I actually snorked out a snore or two, and yet, I felt rejuvenated and ready to tackle my next conquest. Can't wait for the next 90 minutes!

I got some tips on why my back may be bothering me. I got 60 minutes of wonderful, relaxing, stress relieving massage.

The office is relaxing, and the neighborhood is perfect for that "post massage light headed sit in the sun and have something to drink". Put an extra buck in the meter and chill out for a while after Andrea treats you right.

I melted... I had a wonderful massage by Andrea. I especially liked how slowly and deliberately she worked- every move was precise and had a purpose. After she worked on my back and it was time to turn over, I felt like I had literally melted on to the table. It was one of the most relaxing massages I have ever had, and I have had dozens.

Phenomenal! Andrea has a gift. She can connect with your body and almost hear it talking.... I went for the special early on this year (I think it was 12 massages for the price of 10?) and it has been SUCH a good experience. Don't go for anything but the 90 minute. Go NOW and make an appointment. Your body will thank you! She is fantastic!
