Oh. My. Google. This place is sooooo good. I had some kind of home made ice cream sandwich and it was just out of this world. Ice cream sandwich is a plain and derogatory way to describe this delectable little treat. I remember that it was hot out, and it provided me with the reprieve I needed from the dry climate. Oh, thank goodness for the creative minds at Andraes.
There was a rich, dark chocolate flavor, dense and well crafted- you could taste the quality of the ingredients.
    I loved it.
The only sad part-- returned this weekend only to find that it was closed while folks were away on vacation.
I'll be back the next time I roll through gold country, crossing my fingers they'll be open for business.

I would have to say that I've tried nothing here that I didn't like. And I've tried a lot. Scones of various types (hazelnut-yum chive cheese-delish artichoke-fabulous) Breads (olive, blue cheese walnut, parmesan-so delicious) cakes and pastries (Basque cake-decadent, hazelnut chocolate chip cookies-dreamy) and the breakfast sandwiches are the perfect way to start a day of wine tasting, after suitable amounts of coffee of course.
My honey and I are here around once a month visiting the area for a variety of reasons and I always go home with their large container of granola. Now-I bet I could make my own but when theirs is so good why bother?
I love looking at all the gourmet goodies they have although I try to stick to baked goods. There's a lot of inspiration here.
Thanks, Andraes for breakfast and goodies to take home and for the road after camping nearby.

We used Andrae's for breakfast foods the morning after our wedding. We ordered about $200 of breakfast goodies for our wedding guests, and invited them to our hotel banquet room. The guests were very pleased with the selection and quality of the food. We ordered them a few days in advance and paid, and had someone pick them up for us! Wonderful!

Today I went and bought breads for Christmas Eve dinner. Again a few selections wrapped up nicely for Christmas. Looking forward to having some wonderful bread to share with our family over the holidays!

This is the best bakery around and really the best bakery I have ever been to! LOVE! It is incredibly small, but if you'd like to stay awhile there are tables outside (no inside seating available). Their goodies are amazing. My favorites are the cinnamon roll, which is flaky on the outside and so soft on the inside; the pecan sticky roll: perfect amount of sticky delicious sauce to go with a coffee or with my favorite: A chai tea latte. They make the best chai tea latte I have ever had...far superior to Starbucks. Their bread is amazing- like to buy loaves of Blue Cheese Walnut or Chibatta for parties or picnics. Goes great with brie, sundried tomato dip from Vintage Market, or spinach dip. Can't wait to try more!

Delicious, rustic, crusty, classic, fresh, sandwiches! (and more)

I had a very basic/simple salami pesto on a mini baguette, and let me tell you... it was like a little delicious piece of europe. Honestly, these place reminds me of some of the little European style deli's you might find in France. Numerous fresh loaves of bread are available for purchase along with a wide array of little extras such as artisanal cheeses, spices and dips. They also sport a nice beer/soda cooler with import beers and various botled vintage sodas.

The baked goods are also fantastic! Mini blueberry and peach pies with browned oat/hazelnut crisp on top. Big fat picture perfect chocolate chip cookies, and a whole spectrum of other sugary delights.

If you are up in the area for wine tasting and in need of a good lunch, or if you want to grab some delightful items for a picnic in wine country. Andrae's Bakery is a wonderful destination.

I've only had patries, breads, and coffee here, need to try the sandwiches.
The pastries are solid but nothing amazing.  The coffee was ok, I thought the Chai was too sweet.  However the breads are fantastic, and well worth a detour to pick up a loaf.  They also have a great selection of cheeses in the take out case, perfect for a winery picnic.

I want Andrae's Bakery to adopt me.

We swung by Andrae's while we were in the vicinity wine tasting.  We were hoping to do a picnic but had left our cooler at home.  The very nice cashier packed our sandwiches, salami sticks and cheese in a bag with double baged ice to help keep everything frosty.  How nice is that?  If that weren't enough, the food was YUM!  The sammies, the cookies...it was all splendid and made our wine picnic perfect.

This place is overflowing with in your face freshbaked goodness and I cannot wait to return.

This famous local bakery is probably the single most important reason to visit Amador City, the smallest incorporated town in California. Like an addict seeking a fix, I go out my way to buy Andrae's fresh baked goods, cheeses and fine wines.

As the name implies, everything is fresh baked in-house. My drug of choice is the cinnamon rolls, but I'm also partial to the cranberry walnut bread. Any of the breads are guaranteed to satisfy on there own, but it doesn't hurt to smother them in brie and wash them down with a bottle or two of fine regional vino. Once it hits your lips, it's so good!

If your mind isn't made up already, I challenge you to resist the entrancing smell of cinnamon, sugar and fresh baked breads wafting from the bakery located just across the hall.

Afterwards, I often sit on their porch and eat while observing the laconic pace of life in Amador County.

Outstanding. One of the best small specialty cheese selections I have ever seen, and priced perfectly. The baked goods are diverse, and delicious.  A small place that is doing it right. We bought one of the pre made spcialty sandwiches, salami & pesto on a beautiful small roll, and it totally saved the day on our ride home. This will be a must go to for us when we pass through next time.

This is a great little bakery in the heart of the smallest incorporated city in California - Amador City.

Andrae's is known for his Basque style cakes. Wonderful, heavy pound cake like cake, studded with walnuts and dusted generously with powdered sugar. A great cake to have with coffee!

Andrae's is also famed for his breads. There really isn't a better bread bakery in the area that could compete with Andrae's - wonderful, developed malty flavors. So craving some Rustic Italian!

This place also has a small refrigerator case in which you can get sandwiches (I have yet to do this), as well as a variety of imported cheeses and specialty salami's from Molinari.

On this visit, I picked up a wedge of dAffin'ois Herb brie - which was just wonderful. In addition to the brie, I picked up the following Molinari salami's:

Salametti: A light color cure with a traditional and distinctive tangy finish - very much what we are used to getting in a hard salami at the deli

Sopressata: A dark, medium course grind. Distinctive tangy flavor with a salty edge and a Burgundy finish.

Pepperoni: A nice rounded pepperoni with a slightly spicy finish - very nice.

Finocchiona: A small micro salami, fine grind, with a smooth salami flavor and a wonderful finish of fennel. Would love this in a thicker stick as it would make a perfect salami sandwich on a fresh sourdough roll!

Creminelli: I normally do not like a coarse salami and this was the coarsest of all of them. However, it was one of my favorites. A very dark salami, very mild with a salty finish.

OMG - is there a word for amazing?  Oh wait... "amazing."

BF loved it so much I think he could have cried.

Cute, teeny-tiny bakery right on old 49 in Amador City.  We almost ate at the Buffalo Emporium because the BF liked the name, but we parked at Andrae's and saw the sign that said, "Bakery Parking Only."  That's how they get you!

We each got a sandwich "eat-in" even though all of their seating is outside.  The patio is nice, comfortable, and relaxing, even with the cars breezing by on the highway.  BF got a brie and "red pepper... or tomato... or something" (much to my frustration) and I got the duck breast.  Both sandwiches came pre-made, wrapped in brown deli paper in an open fridge case.  A selection of Sharffenberger chocolate and other confections graced the front table.  Everything was dainty and neat, in spite of the store's size.  Service was good; if you order things "eat in" you get your sandwich served on a plate with four green, unpitted olives.

The French bread was perfect, both in taste and texture.  The ingredients were all fresh, and the combination of flavors was pleasing to the palate.  BF isn't a huge brie fan, but loved his sandwich nonetheless.  My chai latte was perfect, not too spicy and not too sweet.  BF had coffee that he said is the same coffee that is served in the Cal-EPA building, but was above average.

Of all the places we visited on our Gold Country mini-tour, this was where he keeps egging me on to write a review about.

    Happy now?

Last year a family member who lives out in Amador County told me about Andrae's walnut and blue cheese bread. I immediately had to try it out and I've been addicted ever since. Everything I've tried there is delicious! I love their pre-made sandwiches and the yukon gold potato salad. I really like the brie, ham, and dijon sandwich. They carry many different kinds of artisan breads and cheeses. It's such a great place to get a quick bite to eat. Most times it's quiet and you can sit out on the porch and people watch. I always look forward to visiting Andrae's when I'm in the area. It's a must!

Okay... more places like this would convince me to stop taking the bypass and drive Old 49 on my way to and from Kirkwood.

For such a small, out of the way bakery, they've got an amazing selection of pre-made sandwiches, cheeses, breads, and small label sodas.  I found myself here while hungry and on the recommendation of a local.  Grabbed one of the pre-made Roasted tomato and Herb Brie sandwiches on a French roll with a bottle of Cheerwine.  Fresh, flavorful... the girl behind the counter told me they were made fresh every morning and you can tell.  The bread was soft on the outside and the crust still had a bite.  The tomatoes and brie were full of flavor and hadn't turned the bread all soggy gross.

When I mentioned I'd be eating it on the patio, she offered to plate it and threw in a few sweet peppadews on the side.  And on the way out the door, one of the guys ran from behind the counter to open the door.  Now, I'm no old lady (or as far as a 25 year old guy can pretend to be an old lady), but given my hands were full with a plate sandwich, a bottle of Cheerwine, and my day pack of stuff, it was very much appreciated.  Excellent service!

Docking the place one star only because they don't make sandwiches to order here.  I can only imagine how much better they'd be that way.  Prices were very reasonable - $5 for the sandwich and another $2 for the Cheerwine.  And for folks who don't want to miss the bypass, it's right in Amador-freaking-City.  Make the turn, drive 2 minutes, grab the food, and drive another 2 minutes back to the bypass.  It's absolutely worth it.

The challenge for us is to limit our purchase because whenever we visit we want to buy out the store. We use the blue cheese-walnut bread cut into small slices as hors d'oeuvres. Last weekend the woman ahead of me cleaned out the last brownies which are among the richest in flavor I've eaten. Four of us shared a scone and apple crisp for breakfast out on the deck. I'm not a coffee drinker but the hot chocolate was European style, strong on cacao and light on sugar, just the way I prefer. This is also a convenient place to buy quality lunch sandwiches. There are shaded picnic tables near the building. A local says that the baker goes to Europe every summer to learn more about baking. Andrae's is a very reasonably priced destination bakery, but be sure to check that it's open if you go up on a weekday, since it is not open every day.

Andrae's is a great bakery. They make their scones from what can only be described as biscuit dough. Mmmm wonderful. They have lots of picnic goodies (cheeses, salamis, etc.) and the best peanut butter cookies. All the baked goods are baked fresh every day. Get there early as they frequently run out.

Why only 4 stars? Their selection is small (they're in a very small building), and all their breads are "crusty," which I can't eat (weak jaw). Some soft French bread would be a wonderful addition.

I made note of this bakery when a nearby winery had a postcard boasting about cheese tasting and fresh baked goods.  The next day, I saw them at the Sutter Creek Farmer's Market and that sealed it as our lunch spot.  The premade sandwiches are so good that you won't mind that they are premade.  My ham and cheese featured a bit of butter and my husband's pastrami was made from Kobe beef.  Selected pantry items are available from the Girl and the Fig, Molinari's, etc.  All the good stuff in Northern California.

Stopped here at 3pm on Saturday and were lucky that there were still some turkey sandwiches left.  They were good. Good bread, good quality meat, and the right toppings. Others in party had pizza bread and bakery samples. Grabbed some waters and headed out to the tables. Pretty quiet gold country town. Lots of cars parked on street but not sure where people were. Relaxing spot to stop and recharge.

We went to Andrae's last weekend. Had the Kobe pastrami sandwich. Good as always. It's not only the lean pastrami but the romaine and the dijon mustard on their bread is the kicker. Got to have the Blue Cheese and Walnut bread. This is yummy. Doesn't need it, but spread some butter and OMG. Got to pick up some of those Sunflower & Cheese Crackers. Last and probably not least, try the Chocolate Chewies with pistachios. The low cal special. They are like biting into a crunchy, lite, and airy brownie. Check this place out.

Be prepared to be crushed if your favorite bread (potato) is a seasonal item only! This bakery offers much more than basic bakery items, and a lot of local food items as well. Made fresh, and your car will end up smelling like the bakery if you drive home, which makes it pretty hard to eat it all up!

Andrae's Bakery is a personal favorite - however, unless you are there at the right time of the day (I have yet to figure out when) they usually have a limited selection - but everything is very yummy!  I love their pistachio-chocolate chewies, chocolate chip cookies, sticky buns, whole wheat breads - but truly, you can't go wrong.  Their sandwiches are also very yummy!  Everyone is so nice at Andrae's.  Get there early, and arrive with a hungry stomach!

Possibly the highlight of any trip to Amador county.  I mean if you don't want to go to a fancy restaurant and just want something refreshing this is perfect.  There were so many items I wanted to try.  The premade sandwiches were delicious as were a number of the pastries...there is this hazelnut cookie thing that was spectacular.
Worth the drive from Sacramento to Amador city all by itself, let alone the other amador county stuff.  Will return as often as possible.  Highly recommended.  Stratsospherically recommended.
