I went to Andrade's for lunch with my meet up group (http://www.meetup.com/...) and it was very, very good. The food was excellent and the service was fantastic. I had the taco salad and it tasted very good and the portion sizes were large for the money you paid.
The only downside to this is that when I first wanted to go here I figured it was more "International" than just south American. I love south American food but from the restaurant name, I assumed it covered a broader range of foods. But the food they did have was super! I would definitely go there again.
As a side note, if you like tequila, they have a fantastic selection. -

Not a bad restaurant. The food is flavorful and much less greasy than some other Mexican/Latin places, and prices aren't too bad at all. The drinks are adequate, but we've never been blown away by the desserts. The restaurant is clean and comfortable, but we haven't had the chance to sit out on the patio.
The lowpoint for the restaurant is definitely the speed of the service. While the servers are all friendly and knowledgable, they been on the slow side every time we've visited, even though the restaurant has never been particularly busy.
All in all, Andrade's is a solid choice for Mexican/Latin food in Petersburg. With better desserts and faster service I'd rate it at 4 stars. But even at a 3-star rating, it's still the best restaurant of its type we've found in the area. -

After stating many times that I needed to visit this establishment, finally made it today with the boss. For a Friday lunchtime, it was really quiet. All the better for us, but sad for them. The menu was a mixture of Mexican and other Latin foods. I decided have the chicken burrito and maduros (fried plantains). The maduros were on par with most Richmond restaurants that serve this fruit. The burrito however was exceptional, especially in comparison with most Richmond offerings. While most in the area drown their burritos in cheese sauce, this burrito was topped with an sufficient amount of melted cheese and a generous, but not overwhelming sauce. It was a very tasteful combination. The meal came with a typical salad and a side of rice. The rice too was exceptional, rich in taste, unlike I've had in any Latin restaurant anywhere!
I don't generally go into Petersburg, but this is the second time I've been pleasantly surprised by an establishment, so based these experiences, I may have to recenter my compass! -

I was not impressed with their attempt at a Mexican dish nor was I impressed when by draft beer came to the table in a red Solo cup. But it would have only been cool if Toby Keith was the one who brought while singing "Red Solo Cup", I suppose.

My wife and I went last night for the first time. We had a appetizers, main course and dessert with drinks. Everything was good and delicious. Well seasoned and cooked as ordered. We will be going back for brunch one day soon.
Nice hidden treasure in Petersburg, really enjoyed the service and staff. -

When coming to andrades, make sure you're not in a hurry. The food is full of flavor, but not as greasy as some hispanic restaurants. The salsa is better than any restaurant nearby. The Cadillac margarita is worth the trip.
I would give the place a 3, because the service is lacking but the patio makes up for that. Worth a try! -

$15 for plantain appetizer, fish soup and sweet tea
Ordered the sliced fried plantain served on chopped lettuce with a dollop of sour cream. It sounded more interesting that it really was. It was a curious combination and asked the waiter the origin of the dish and he said that it was Central American. I asked him if in Central America it is served this way. His response was no, that the fried plantain is served with sweetened clotted cream: more dessert like.
The fish soup was very flavorful with 6 mussels, 2 shrimp, 1 scallop and 3 pieces of white fish. The broth was saffron colored with little puddles of oil floating on in the broth. It was tasty, but the bowl was way too large and I left most of it behind when I left. Would have been better were it to be served with a crusty French roll to sop up the leftover broth.
Bottom line: A Central American fusion restaurant with a lot of upside potential. -

Richmond, VA
The menu is a nice mix between unusual dishes, for those looking for things they can't find just anywhere, and a page of the usual suspects of a Mexican(-ish) restaurant, so it's a good choice for a group (a small group) of people with a mixed level of adventurousness. Nice, renovated-downtown feel. The "bar" is where the liquor is kept, and there's a bar, but there's no bartender or places to sit, or there wasn't when we were there, so if you're looking for a bar you need to look elsewhere.

This place is excellent, especially in summer when the deck is open. I have been here alone and with large groups and never had a bad meal. Once, with a group of over 20, the servers had some trouble remembering who ordered what, but that's understandable.
I can't make a specific recommendation on a particular item, because everything on the menu is good. Just find something with ingredients you normally like, and you'll like what's served. I do suggest trying their ceviche, and although the maduros are listed as an appetizer, they make a much better desert.
I've been told that they make the best margaritas within 100 miles, but since I don't drink mixed drinks I can't testify to that. They do stock a full bar and usually have Negra Modello in stock.
Easily one of the best Mexican/South American places I've been to. -

I have to admit, I was skeptical at first going to an ethnic restaurant in Petersburg but this place totally came through. Fantastic food at a decent price and the service was very good too.
The deck area wasn't open yet when I visited, but I look forward to returning when the weather is nice enough to sit outside. -

Their food is good and not run-of-the-mill Mexican - South American is a pretty good description. Very interesting menu - things you don't find anywhere else.
Prices are reasonable. Service is often spotty. -

I've been to Andrade's twice and cannot say enough good things about the food and service. Everything I've eaten here has been delicious, I especially recommend the mussels marinara and peach margaritas. The steak is really delicious-- I normally don't like red meat but I very much enjoyed the steak here. Our server, Mr. Andrade himself, was helpful and attentive. It has a great family owned feel, I definitely recommend trying it out! I've eaten at every restaurant in old town Petersburg and this is my favorite.

Went back again to Andrade's this week (third time now). They are open on Sunday evening (unlike most of the other restaurants in downtown Petersburg).
Again, everything was excellent. I had the chicken tacos again, still delicious. The beans were black beans this time; it seemed like they were pinto beans on my previous visit. We ordered the cheese dip with the tortilla chips and it was delicious! It was real, melted cheese, with onion, jalapeno, and red pepper on top... MMM... so good!!
Service was great, they constantly kept our drinks refilled. If you haven't tried Andrade's yet I highly recommend it.1 Previous Review: Show all »

Even while remember that "it's Petersburg," this place is still GREAT.
The best part is actually that it's in Petersburg...
Great service
Amazing bread (hell yea that matters!)
The menu was fantastic. The ONLY complaint was that my dish (Mariscos Saltados) had a chinese food stir-fry tinge to it. Weird... But still good.
A friend got the Zarzuela de Mariscos, which was this beautiful saffron colored broth /seafood pile. Great.
This is one of 3 restaurants in Petersburg that
a) you must try
and
b) you must try because you have no where else to eat (when in doubt, go to olive garden right?.... right?) -

Petersburg is a rough town but there are a few nice restaurants in the Old Towne area and this is one of them.
The food is really good and you get tons of it! The title is "international" but its mostly mexican. All of the seafood dishes are delicious! The service is good as well. Also one of the few restaurants in Old Towne open on Sunday and Monday.
Never had brunch there but it looks delicious. -

Came from California for a drag race near Petersburg, and wanted to eat something for dinner that was better then the typical track food. Had the ceviche, which was definitely different then the ceviche we have back in CA. It was very good, HUGE chunks of fish with some celery, red onion, and lettuce. Ordered the seafood burrito which had a seafood sauce that was extravagant. We sat out on the patio and there was a live band which was legit. chips and salsa were also very good. Only problem was slow service from our waiter, while the bartender dude was working about 3 times as fast.

I'm from Texas and I was quite impressed with the quality of the food here. The seafood enchiladas were on point and the servers was very attentive.
