Driving down Shenandoah Rd in Amador disappointed by the overly Ethanoled quality of the wine at one faux-villa after the next I caught a glimpse of a shining star of architecture far up on the hill. While I was initially drawn in by the stark and industrial design I stayed for the fantastic wine and animal crackers. My friend and I had the pleasure of being served by the winemaker himself, Mark McKenna, who is a great guy, extremely knowledgeable, and has extraordinary taste in wine and literature. Every wine is a standout and the Painted Fields blend is a perfect wine to serve to friends at parties or to just drink while watching a movie on a Friday night at home alone.
If you can get a glimpse of the concrete egg I promise it is worth it. The egg imbues a sense of calm and stillness in the viewer, and if you place your hands to it you may transcend reality (make sure you also have a sufficient "taste" of cab franc at the time of palpating the egg).
If, like myself, you enjoy a crisp refreshing white to savor by the pool on a hot summer day, take home a few bottle of sauvignon blanc, and if you love a bold red that still comes off soft and light on tannins then splurge on the Reserve Petit Sirah. No matter what you enjoy the wines at Andis deliver on flavor and complexity. The service is impeccable. I have not enjoyed myself this much at a winery in awhile.
Cheers! -

The Andis Barbara is the standout here.
Love their concept to buy a large carafe of rotating wine on tap... $24/first time, $15/refills.
Contemporary tasting room. They have a nice outdoor area with fire pits and heat lamps.
Overall, a nice new addition to Amador. -

I cannot believe I forgot to write a review sooner! We came here last Sept and had a wonderful time. The building is beautiful, very modern & retro at the same time. It reminds me of a cool airplane hanger. The inside is large, with windows everywhere, sleek lines and a clean feel. The view is breathe taking, and makes you feel like you have traveled far away (to France or Italy!), its a very relaxing place.
The women who helped us was very knowledgable and friendly! A few people in our party of 8 know a lot about wine and she answered their questions with a smile.
They had great reds (I'm not a huge wine drinker so I cannot remeber names), we ended up buying wine in a cute refillable glass bottle which I now use as a water bottle (until we come by for a refill!!). ~at one around $26 plus a discount when you bring it back, I'd say it's a wonderful deal!
They have a wonderful lawn area where we had a our picnic lunch & played some lawn games a friend brought.
Thank you for for help making our couples wine tasting trip so fantastic! -

Just had a great trip to Andis this weekend. If you haven't been, the building is so different than any other in the county. It is very modern vs the rustic look most wineries in the area are going for. The tasting room is large with tables in case there isn't any room at the bar. They also have a beautiful lawn with chairs & tables- great place for a picnic as there is an incredible vineyard view.
They have a great wine list with something for everyone. Their Sauvignon Blanc is light and fruity- perfect for the summer, they have a beautiful pink Rose for the ladies, while my husband enjoyed the manliness of the Cabernet Franc. Their blend Painted Fields is a great wine to share with friends and their yet to be released Primitivo may possibly be one of my favorite in the area.
The staff behind the counter this Saturday were all very friendly and made the experience in the tasting room exactly the kind you should be able to have in Amador. On a side note met the manager and winemaker he is very interested in giving the customers the best experience possible. Looking forward to future visits to this winery. -

As a regular wine buyer in this area, I did not want to even try it because the building sticks out (not in a good way) in the surrounding area. Too much metal / too sterile looking - I'm old fashioned that way. I went with some friends that had heard good things so off we went. It was a busy weekend - the pouring staff was a little cold, but once they realized we were there to buy, not just drink for free, they were great. We met the wine maker as well and I really liked his attitude about the wines. Not a lot of white wines in this region & their sauv blanc is very good - a little on the sweet side, but perfect for a hot Sacramento evening. They are dog friendly with an outside walk up bar area for taster that bring their 4-legged friends. As a dog person, I really like that touch. All in all a nice surprise! Looking forward to going back.

Rude servers pouring behind the counter, limited selection of wine not grown on the property (they're too new still), and serious attitude about the availability of beer for those in our group who aren't wine nuts-and this is the place that has a beer tap! Look, why bother to serve (or not because you don't know what is wrong with the tap) a beverage that your staff don't know anything about and are snide and flippant about. I'm a member of several wine clubs in the area and I love Amador wineries for their personal touches, good wine, and comfortable, relaxed atmosphere.
UPDATE:
Not 24 hours after being a bit of a snot in this review myself, the owner responded to me in a truly honorable and kind fashion, interested in hearing my concerns and wanting to make a personal connection. Absolutely what I think everyone on yelp really is looking for when they have a bad time at a place is a personal touch and genuine interest. Thank you!
I'll come back to comment more as soon as I can get a chance to visit again! -

We stopped here for a second of five wine tour. I love the surroundings. The building is very beautiful and the outside patio is exactly where I'd want to eat lunch.
The pours were very generous. I thought the wine on tap was a creative idea that I hope works for you guys.
As for the wine. I'm not an expert but the first two whites on their tasting list, the blanc and the rose were delicious. So refreshing, I could have had a few bottles to take with me to the pool next time.
Keep up the great work friends. -

I admit, I have not been to the winery. But, boy would I love to go. Though, I have had several of their wines. I was priviledged to be able to taste the Painted Fields, Sauvignon Blanc and just got a bottle of the Barbera (saving for a special occassion). All the wines I have had thus far have been amazing. Painted Fields .. not to low brow it or anything would be considered a "table red" but it is so much more than that. The wine is a full bodied and full of flavor blend of various varietals. The Sauvignon Blanc is a sit back and sip on a nice summer evening wine and really sits well on the palate.
Now, I am a red wine drinker, for the most part, but sometimes a nice chilled white is what you need to fill in your evening. I love that kind of wine.
I've seen pictures of the winery and I know that it was built with the earth and energy efficiency in mind. I can't wait to make my way out to Northern California! -

My friends and I took a trip to Amador to try to pack in as much wine tasting into one day as possible. However, we got pretty sleepy and decided to call it a day but not until after we visited Andis first. As soon as we parked both me and one of my friends said that the place looked just a little too modern for our liking. However, when we got closer, we realized that the "modern" looking facade was actually made up of parts of wine barrels. This was so neat to us, so we entered the tasting room with a new sense of excitement. We bellied up to the bar and were greeted by Chuck.
After learning that we were wine majors, he tailored the tasting to us, teaching us all about the company and even giving us a small impromptu tour. The winery had started as just an afterthought but quickly became the standout amongst all of the other wineries we visited that day. It was a great experience and the wine was delicious. We especially liked the '09 cabernet franc which was very "green" in flavors and absolutely delicious. We grabbed a couple of bottles, thanked the staff and headed out.
I WILL recommend this winery to anyone visiting this area. The staff was amazing and the wine was great. -

AMAZING new (ish) winery in Plymouth.
my parents and i made our way to Andis after Dobra (LOVE) and Driven (not so much).. we were pleasantly surprised / impressed with the winery, both how it looks and feels, and the wines (yummy)..
the sauvignon blanc and rose are stand-out wines... I personally wasn't a big fan of the "painted fields" blend (a bit tannin-y for my taste), but everything else was fantastic.
good price point (wines from $15 up), good atmosphere, great wines. we'll DEFINITELY be going back =) -

Go for the view, stay for the wine, or go for the wine, stay for the people, or go for the view, the staff, the wine...
Here's the nutshell and then babble to follow:
Wines on tap in bring back carafes, Beer on tap for your friend who doesn't really like wine or for yourself, I mean myself, who just can't take yet another sip of wine, clean and spacious bathrooms actually for the customer, not some ridiculous latrine tucked away behind the barrel storage, Truly gracious staff who will answer honestly even the silliest of questions, Fantastic Views, I mean we're talking purple mountain majesty sea to shining sea stuff here, right there in them foothills!! Everyone should go.
End nutshell... begin babblish details
Yes! they are friendly and not a bit pretentious. You know what I mean about pretentious. Like driving to Napa to go into some dark and dim tasting room to be glanced at dismissively by a set of eyes behind a swirling wine glass. God I hate that.
Well, at Andis the tasting room is gloriously well-lit and the view is something special.
This winery has a completely refreshing philosophy of "business" if you want to call it that but after speaking with the people here you realize it is more about someone's dreams coming to fruition than about business.
Yes! This winery is well thought out and GREEN. When you go there and you should, just ask for a tour and listen with glee as you sip your red or white to the tiny thoughtful details that went into the design of this place. Each space has little touches here and there that keep the customer, the environment, and the wine in mind from the tasting room, to the barrel room, to yes even the rest rooms.
AND Yes! Reasonable prices for decent wines. This is a young winery with a plan for big moves in the future and I cannot wait to go back again and again to see and taste the improvements they make. -

This was the first and best stop of my wine tasting tour today! Andis is a new winery and has a nice selection of wines. They have a grenache, zin, barbera and cab. My favorite wines were the sauvignon blanc and rosé, they were fabulous!
The staff were so friendly and knowledgeable! The service was great! The view from this place is amazing! When the weather gets warmer this would be a wonderful place for a picnic!
The interesting thing about this winery is they also have lagunitas beer on tap.
I really enjoyed this place and will be back! -

Amador City, CA
Wonderful new establishment in Amador's Shenandoah Valley. Great views, very good wine (as of this report, they have Sauvignon Blanc, Barbera, Zinfandel, Grenache, a blend called "Painted Fields", a Reserve Cab Franc and a Petite Sirah Dessert wine), and very nice people.
They also have a wine ON TAP that you can fill a 1-liter bottle with for $22, and return and refill for a mere $15. They also have beer - Lagunitas IPA - on tap as well for $5 a pint. Tap wine is available for $6 a glass. And they're generous amounts!
That Cabernet Franc is seriously some of the best I've ever had the pleasure to taste. And it's an '09, meaning...it can stand to lay dormant for about six or so years. But I am NOT waiting that long to drink it. Truly, a gem.
Check them out! -

We were out and about in the area and were struck with how different the architecture of winery tasting room is, so we stopped for a look around. Really friendly staff. The wine maker was there that day, along with the two owners, Andy and Janis. We got a spontaneous tour of the place. I enjoyed the wines, especially the sparkling wine and the dessert wine, but the reds were also very good according to my red drinking friends. A couple of us joined the wine club and all of us bought at least 2 bottles each. It was a little windy, but the grounds were beautiful and I want to come back and enjoy the outdoor area when it is warmer. If I am in the area, I will make a point of stopping by for a taste and another bottle.

I am a member at Andis, because I love the people, the scenery and of course the wine. However, I have to say they blew me away this weekend. I had a limo (many wineries in Amador are not very receptive to that) because I had a few family member in town and decided one car for all would be more fun! From the moment we walked in the door, Andy greeted us and remember us by name. He welcomed us and set us up at one of the tables and absolutely blew us away with the warmth that we are so used to from the first time we walked in. We always liked the wine but I would have to say the Barbera aged to perfection and was to die for! On top of that, they released Champagne! Well, they had us try some of that, although it was not typically poured since it was just released at the luau the weekend before. Yeah, easily got a case of that it was so good!!!
Andis has always impressed us but they helped us impress my family with the welcome wagon! It was great to taste and talk about the wine and talk to the winemaker, Mark. They are so personal and warm. This is why I love Amador!! -

Heard about this place from a friend of mine. The owner is a Hawaii native. As someone with close Hawaii times, it's nice to see local folk expanding out to mainland markets. This tating room is great..the architecture of the winery is stunning and unlike any i've ever seen..and believe me, i've seen a lot! The Sauvingnon Blanc, Barberra, Painted Fields, and Granache are the best! I highly recommend a visit if you're in Northern Cali! Hopefully, they'll soon carry some of this wine in Hawaii so I won't have to pay shipping costs!

I haven't been to the winery but I have ordered online. The product was shipped very quickly and efficiently. I ordered on a Friday (to WA state) and it was delivered by UPS on Wednesday. The shipping costs weren't bad either - I was expecting it to be much higher.
The wines are fabulous - I ordered the Sauvignon Blanc and the Cabernet Franc. Will order again. Better yet, going to plan a driving trip down to CA so I can check out the winery and stock up. -

My wife and I spent a wonderful day traveling through the Amador wine country on Monday, what a great way not to work. I have to say that we had one of the best times at Andis wines (love the Barbera). What a wonderful staff so friendly and knowledgable and very accomodating to our needs. What lovely view go enjoy the day at Andis...

Grenache and Semillon are out of this world!! I am not a wine guy by any stretch, but I know what tastes good. We just enjoyed with Hawaiian poke, grilled fish, and steak. These are completely approachable and enjoyable wines, with many "wows" around the table. Great job, Andis!!

I have been to many wineries and this is one of my favorites! The staff is kind, friendly, and knowledgeable. I LOVE how they have beer AND wine on tap and the picnic area is very relaxing. Me and my boyfriend drove to this winery from Sacramento to enjoy a few glasses of wine, a nice picnic, and we will be doing it again.
