Unreal Valentine's Day 4-Course Dinner!
I'm completely bias as this was the spot of my wife and I's first date, but Andiamo still lives up to our lofty expectations and nostalgic memories. The four-course dinner for Valentine's Day was once again another example of what keeps my wife and I coming back to this place.
Service was excellent and our waiter was very attentive and pleasant. We started out with hors d'oeuvres and they were 2 pairs of crostini: salmon and artichoke. Absolutely delicious and the caprese salad that came with it was refreshing. The seafood bisque with a finish of sherry was next and it was delicious without being too heavy. It's a nice restaurant and I hope that everybody looked away when I slurped it to a finish (and I certainly slurped, thank God I'm married!).
Our entrees were top-notch. My wife got the fig-balsamic filet mignon and it was magnificent. The meat was super tender and that fig-balsamic reduction sauce was simply divine. I was getting jealous for a moment until I cut and tasted my pancetta crusted sea bass. Wowser, was that cooked perfectly and man oh man do I wish I would hit the lottery so that we could have this meal over and over and over again. My dish came with pastina which was a first for me. These tiny pieces of pasta were awesome and then it went over the top when they added a butternut squash butter to it.
I would have been just peachy with the first three courses and trust me my pants and belt were telling me that I was done, but once the dessert platter of mini-pastries came out, my hungry eyes told me "game on." We finished with a chocolate eclair, a sinful Chocolate Bomb, and a fruit tart. Yeah, I didn't need that but I am not going to tell them that!
Thank you again Andiamo for helping ignite and keep the flame of love between my wife and I ablaze with a wonderful Valentine's Day dinner!1 Previous Review: Show all »

I have been frequenting Andiamo more frequently as of late since the other nice Italian place in Tierrasanta is closed for remodeling (or whatever). My favorite item on their menu is the involtini (the veal and mozarella dish). Another standout is their meatballs with the amazing vodka sauce.
When dining in, the service is good though I think the tables are a bit close together. When taking out, it's best to stick to pizza and apps, some of the entrees are best eaten right from the kitchen. -

El Cajon, CA
Maybe 2.5 stars.
I tried the stuffed mushrooms & a bacon wrapped date for appetizers & I have to say that the mushrooms were bland & the bacon wrapped dates were cloying sweet. The ceasar salad was sub-par & my linguini pescatore had a muddy flavor, too much pasta, & even though I had mentioned to the waiter that I really liked when the head & tentacles of the squid are included in a dish, I only found 2 in the whole dish.
... and for the prices they are charging, not even near the tastes & quality you would expect. Waiter & service was fine, but the food was definitely all disappointing. -

I went to Andiamo's a year ago and thought the food was great. I went back again tonight and it was like day and night. I ordered the same dish. The spicy sauce was bland, so I had to add some red pepper flakes to it. Definitely not the same quality as before. It was a bit pricey for the quality I got. The waitstaff was great! Maybe it depends on the times or days you go? I don't really want to gamble and take changes though.

Love this place! Nice quaint itallian restaruant.. the food is excellent. My favorite dish is the Ahi grilled rare with mushroom risotto and aspargus on top. My boyfriend enjoys the Filleto with fried potatoes in truffle oil. The calamari is always good and comes with fried shrimp...ask for some fresh parmesean for the top! The staff is always super friendly and there is never a wait or at least on Sunday nights. I even warm my tuna up the next day since there is enough for lunch & it still tastes great!

My husband and I stumbled on this charming Restaurant when we had a recent appointment in the neighborhood. We received excellent service, exceptional food and enjoyed the warm and friendly ambiance. A delightful dining experience.

Review from Kelly O.
I had pasta with spicy sausage, basil and tomato sauce. It was pretty tasty, and I actually wished there was more pasta and less sausage.. which is better than having too much pasta and not enough sausage. I liked it!
However, I found a lengthy, wiry black hair in my food. I was with co-workers, so I didn't want to make a big deal out of it or wait for the restaurant to make me another plate... so I just ate the rest of my food. Some people freak out about hairs, some people don't care. I'm more in the "don't care" end... but it was still gross.
The bread served at the beginning was not good. It was kind of dry, yet cakey at the same time. Not italian bread. -

Been here a few times and I just can't see giving this place more than 2 stars... I gave it plenty of chances, but I just can't get there.
First of all, this place has always been freezing cold each time I've been (granted, each time has been during the winter). If you look around, most people sit at their tables wearing their jackets. upon asking if they could turn up the heat, the answer was a flat 'no'. I guess there's something to be said for honesty, but at least humor me and tell me that you CAN turn up the heat and then don't. One related issue with a cold restaurant is that they have cold plates so warm food is often cool by the time it reaches the table. Bummer.
Food just isn't very good. I've had the duck on mushroom ravioli and it was bland and boring (and thus overpriced for the quality). The date appetizer is cloyingly sweet. The pizza was underwhelming. Sorry, but nothing jumped out as being particularly good. Facts are facts.
Anyway, no need to go on. -

I live right by it, and go there once a week. Great place. They give this bread out before dinner that is just to die for, and the have the best penne ever, Arriabiata I think it is called. If they ever have the Osso Bucco special, you must get it, amazing! The bar is very nice too, great group of regulars.

Review from Dave B.
I used to come here all the time for lunch a few years back, but in the past the service was somewhat lacking.
But tonight, we ran across a coupon in the 2 for 1 magazine, that got us $10 off. That wasn't important. What was important was if they were dog friendly. We called - a very nice lady answered the phone - and asked if they were dog friendly. She said heck yes, come on in. So we did.
We showed up and got sat immediately in the patio. Our lab was happy to be hanging out with us on a Monday night out. The coupon we had required us to order two beverages and two meals. I wanted a bottle of wine so I asked if that qualifed. The waitress said "absolutely - that is way better than two beverages" so we were off to the races. By the way, she was the same lady that answered the phone when we called.
We ordered a nice bottle of fume blanc, the pear salad with gorgonzola, a filet special with gorgonzola (hey, I like gorgonzola!) and the tortellini, which iincluded chicken and asparagus. The waitress steered us toward the tortellini and vouched for the filet. Nice job - nice service!
Wow! Did I say wow! The flavors on both entrees were extremely complex and tasty. And the pear/gorgonzola had just the right amount of salt and gorgonzola to offset the sweetness of the pears and pineapple. Yum! Best meal we have had out in over six months. I am glad we tried Andiamo again.
And by the way - K9 Wednesdays - dog friendly in the patio and happy hour prices. I think you had me at - "Hello - yes we are dog friendly." We will be back. -

Being walking distance to a good restaurant is always nice. It is just getting the boyfriend to warm up to the idea.
The ambiance was a surprise, since the place is in a strip mall. The large outdoor patio was packed because of a trio playing jazz. We were seated at the window so we could still see the musicians and hear the music from inside.
Gary ordered the lobster ravioli which he loved. I ordered the lasagna, which was okay, but it was smothered in cheese. So much cheese it made you wonder what they were covering up. I wanted to order dessert but the waitress: Celeste (total doll) said she had one ready for us. It turned out to be mini (very mini) tasteless doughnuts with canned whipped cream. Yeck!
Celeste recommended the Cadillac Margaritas which were okay. Gary makes them better.
There is a bar with two televisions. My next visit will be to the bar cheering for the Chargers. -

"Just one?" with a poor-you face and then sit me in the corner, is one thing. But when the place is nearly empty, to seat two overly cologned, loud, yappy, sales jerks right next to me - points off. I noticed you offered them the specials but not me. Hmm points off again. I sit waiting for a menu while you chat it up; ok I'm not feeling you Mr. Waitstaff.
Again, when I ask for a typical item, I get the "did you just say that" face. Garlic bread, when prepared properly is actually a wonderful addition to a meal. However, from the food that was presented to me, proper preparation was not part of the snooty ambiance that lower class garlic bread people are allowed. Shrimp scampi is a delicate dish with lots of garlic, tender shrimp, and sauce you want to bathe in. Andiamo has no concept of this. The shrimp was tough, the dish was tasteless, the pasta was what can only be described as pasty, and the sauce...the dish was nearly dry. The bread with "dipping sauce" was reminiscent of other orange oil places with a few bits of chopped stuff. Again not feeling it.
For a dish that cost them about $5 to throw together the price I paid seemed steep. I guess I'm paying for the blaring "see we're Italian" pretend muzac. Mambo Italiano fail again. -

I went to Italy in September and the food was good there but NOTHING compared to andiamos. I don't know if Americans just have a different taste preference but I LOVE the food here. It so flavorful, warm, filling and just down right DELICIOUS! Everything i've order there I basically lick the plate. I wish this place was more full because the food is WORTH the drive. Also the service is always amazing, friendly, talkactive, attentive and really care. When I go there I always feel like royalty and I'm younger. I hate when I go to restaurants and waiters don't pay attention to us because we are in our 20's but not here. I grew up in tierrasanta so I always knew of this place but my Boss LOVES it with the passion and we go everytime we are in the area.
Go to Andiamos, the food, service and ambiance is well worth it. -

Who knew that Tierrasanta was a mecca for great Italian food ? Ok there's only two noteworthy restaurants ( the other place starts with a B and ends with an O ) but both are exceptionally good.
I would definitely recommend trying this restaurant out if you have never been. Its in the middle of a shopping mall next to a gas station but don't let that deter you. They make great food here. Surprisingly enough, it looks very upscale for being in a strip mall in suburbia.
I cant even point out any particular item on the menu and it sounds cliche but Ive enjoyed everything that Ive ordered here.
Nice decor, friendly servers and great Italian cuisine. Go see for yourself. Its right off of the 52 on Santo Road. -
Review from Hai B.
I've been here once and I can't say I was tempted to come back. The food wasn't memorable. I ordered the seared ahi tuna salad and I've had better salads elsewhere. The gnocchi pasta was just all right. Unfortunately, nothing to rave about.
We received a gift certificate and thought we should use it soon and went there last Saturday during their 16 year anniversary. It was a buffet special night and we were greeted, seated and then left alone. None of the waiters came by to take our drink orders and explain to us where the buffet was located and what to do. We finally figured it out because a few people had gotten up to walk to the back room.
We decided to check out the buffet and everything was pretty empty. The pasta side looked like it had been out for a couple of hours. We decided to leave and go elsewhere.
No one noticed that we had left and I don't know if we'll be coming back despite having a gift certificate to go there. -

Out of all the Italian Restaurants in the Tierrasanta area, I think this one is definately the most classy and best. The Ambiance of the place is great and they even have an outdoor patio to dine in.
Their service staff was very friendly, it was quiet and empty when I went but it was around 11am in the morning. It's right off the 52 freeway and actually a nice Date Place to take someone.
I had their Caprese Salad and it was actually the closest in San Diego that I've come to having a taste of the real Italy. When I was in Italy last summer I had plenty of Caprese Salads and the tomatos were so fresh and the mozarella was so distinct. Over at Andiamo, it's not Italy but it's as close as you can get to it! -

This was a really nice place with delicious food and great service. The waiters and waitresses were friendly and attentive without being pushy. I got a delicious tortellini with chicken, mushrooms, and asparagus, and my boyfriend got a primavera ravioli in pesto. Both of us really enjoyed our dishes... ate it all up and then soaked up the sauce with our bread :) The wine selection was nice too- lots to choose from.
I also enjoyed the decor, I thought it was a really nice place for being in the middle of a shopping center. There was indoor and outdoor seating. I will definitely come back... it was very reasonably priced.
OH, and the blueberry creme brulee is to freaking die for.
YAY! I'm a fan! -

This place is solid Italian food. The bar menu and Flat Bread Pizza with Cheese, Prociutto, pear and caramelized onions is excellent as a meal. The bartender K.C. Is real cool and is what pushed my review to 5 stars.

San Diego, CA
We live in the neighborhood so this is a convenient and tasty place to go. Everything we've had is pretty good, but the spicy meatball appetizer is amazing. There should be a disclaimer that the dish serves 4-5 people because it comes with about 20-25 meatballs, but they are so good and you can't stop eating them.
I know it's lame to write about a salad at an Italian resturant, but that's what I was craving that night. The house salad is about $5 and comes in a huge bowl with tons of fresh veggies and marinated carrots. It hit the spot!
There's a really cute patio area outside. It doesn't make it feel like you're in a strip mall because it has a nice fountain and is surrounded by bushes and plants. -

Sorry to say now that Bellagio has stepped up their game, Andiamo does not seem as good anymore. I had dinner at Andiamo the other night to finally get a good comparison after experiencing the remodeled Bellagio...and sorry to say, I now favor Bellagio.
Parking is still easy with spaces all around. We snagged one right in front. Walked in and was greeted right away. They were nice and instead of seating us at a table they were cleaning up a booth for us.
Once seated our waiter came to do our drink orders. He was nice but a bit absent-minded throughout the dinner. Service was a bit slower than I prefer too. I mean it didn't seem busy, so I don' t know if it was the restaurant combined with the absent-minded waiter.
The food was still good. Ambiance was ok, they have indoor and outdoor seating, as well as a separate bar area. The outdoor seating looked very cute and they had live music playing. I'd sit outside if I had a choice but I didn't want the live music (too loud to talk for me). The outdoor space here is way better Bellagio's...but that can't win it alone hah.
My overall experience was just OK. Before, I actually preferred coming to Andiamo but after Bellagio's remodel and improved everything...I'd much rather go to Bellagio. I really recommend that you experience both restaurants before picking a favorite though. As for me, I'm switching camps to Bellagio.

The enclosed patio is very dog-friendly, and they hold doggie happy hours every so often. The staff offer to bring out doggie-water bowl, too! If you order off of the menu some snack for your canine, they are happy to provide it to the dog.
Very nice decor inside.

Review from Bailey Z.
It's always nice to see restaurant managers who consider their customer's feedback. After our abysmal meal a month ago, we were invited back to give Andiamo another shot. Comparatively, the food was like night and day, which is symbolic because last time we ate in complete darkness and because of daylight savings, we could actually see what we were eating this time. The waitress was very helpful this time around and recommended the soup of the day, which was tomato. It was a little on the acidic side, but I enjoyed it.
As for the main course, we steered clear of the hand-crafted pizzas this time. We all ordered different specialties and the waitress even sold Jenn L. on the ravioli special. I eventually decided on the duck breast over ravioli. At first, I was a bit skeptical because the filling was a paste and when the pieces of duck was fanned out, they stuck together as if they had just been pre-cooked and heated up. It tasted a lot better than it looked to say the least. I really loved the cranberry port reduction and walnuts. Duck is the new turkey. All the flavors went together better than I expected.
I also had a taste of some of the other dishes of the night. Between the veal scaloppini and the involtini, the latter was definitely better. The scalloped potatoes were a nice touch. The lobster fettuccini was well-seasoned and consistent with when we had it last. My least favorite dish of the night was the ravioli special. There was a bit too much cheese for my liking. Overall, it was a much better experience than our first time. I think the biggest difference this time around was service. Our waitress was very enthusiastic and bubbly and our waters were kept full. Sometimes, a little better service can go a long way.Listed in: Pizza! Pizza! Pizza!

Andiamo, take 2! I am glad my friends and I gave Andiamo a second chance. The entire dining experience increased (in my opinion) by one whole yelp star!
First of all our waitress was very friendly and happy - she walked around the restaurant smiling and singing a tune. Everything is better when your waiter is in a good mood.
What really amazed me was the quality of food this time around. The ahi tuna I ordered the first time was satisfactory, but all of the entrees at our table this time exceeded my expectations. I ordered the involtini, which is veal rolled with mozzarella and ham. It was served over delicious scalloped potatoes that were baked to perfection and covered in a Marsala sauce. MMMMM Even though I'm full, I would eat it again right now. Check out Bailey Z or Kevin T's reviews to see what they got.
Can't say if they fixed the dim lighting or not - we went around 6 this time so it was still bright outside. Nonetheless, the food is what brought this rating up.1 Previous Review: Show all »

My family has been celebrating special occasions here for over a decade, so there's some nostalgia here.
I always get, without fail, the Lemon Chicken in Rosemary. It comes with vegetables and roasted potatoes, although since I've become neurotic about my appearance, I now order it with only the vegetables.
The bread and sauce they give you at the beginning is great, and the soup is amazing. Not much has changed in the last 10 years, and I appreciate the consistency.
Decor is classy and not over bearing. Minus one star because it can take a while to get your meal after placing your order. -

I had lunch at Andiamos last week and thoroughly enjoyed it. It is always great to go to a restaurant where they hit all the marks.
Food: Started with the tomato soup. Done in a pureed style, it had loads of flavor. It could have been just a little bit warmer, but it would be splitting hairs considering the layers of flavors. Next was the Pear and Gorgonzola salad and this was great as well. It included fresh pineapple as well which was a nice surprise in this salad. For the entree, I had the charbroiled rare Ahi over acini di pepe pasta with cream of sherry and mushroom sauce. It was fabulous.
Service: Our server was attentive, helpful and on top of it. Great job.
Ambiance: Interior has lot's of windows with loads of natural light. We had a nice table by the front window. The restaurant is open with a great view of the kitchen.
Really enjoyed Andiamos! -

We went here with three people on a weeknight. The place wasn't very crowded and we were seated immediately. We ordered a bottle of wine which was moderately priced and of moderate quality.
I decided to go for broke and order the filet mignon, which was in the $35 range. The steak wasn't cooked to perfection and the taste was decidedly mediocre, on par with something like Black Angus. Maybe I'm a filet snob, but good filet stands out in pretty stark contrast, especially to what this place had to offer.
That said, I'm sure they have some items on the menu that they do extremely well and are worth the relatively high prices, but I doubt I'll choose to go back here over some of the exquisite and similarly priced places in La Jolla. -

This is definitely one of the better italian restaurants in San Diego.
The pasta arrabiata and fetuccini alfredo in particular are delicious here. I always get takeout since the ambiance is kinda meh at this restaurant, but who cares about that when the food is good right?
I would classify this place as a mid tier italian restaurant (maybe a notch below the restaurants in Little Italy) though I would take Andiamo over quite a few of the overpriced italian establishments downtown. Why pay more simply for an ostentatious presentation?
Give this place a shot if you are in Tierrasanta. -

If you are unfamiliar with this wonderful Tierrasanta Italian Restaurant, you should find your visit there, serendipitously delightful!
An attentive staff pleasingly presents wonderful Italian fare. And the food is both delicious and reasonably priced. They have an interesting wine list also.
We had dined there a few times in the past year or so and were so impressed, we decided to have our son's wedding rehearsal dinner on their nice outdoor patio for our 25 guests. The dinner came off without a glitch, surprisingly under budget, and to the raves of our most epicurean, out-of-town guests.
A separate and discreetly comfortable cocktail lounge, plus a pleasant outside patio dining area in addition to the quiet and relaxed main dining room give one pleasing options.
While of course they aren't always absolutely perfect - and thus 4 rather than 5 stars - they certainly try for perfection.... Something seemingly far too rare anymore. And they do come close. I'm looking to returning to Andiamo soon.Listed in: reviews

Great service, incredible food. Total surprise coming from a strip mall restaurant in suburbia. We had the spicy meatballs as a appetizer, the sauce was awesome, but you could sort of tell the meatballs weren't simmered in them for long, but rather a separate flavor all together when you took a bite. The fig and prosciutto pizza was SOOOO delicious! Quality ingredients. I had a side of the polenta and that was also wonderful. It was fried a bit, so of course it was great! Shoot, even the house cab was impressive.
Charming interior, and a cool bar!Listed in: Food

This is my first review EVER for ANYTHING! haha i'm not very good at this...
Overall, the meal was great. It was Restaurant Week, so the menu was different. We got to choose a three course meal.
There weren't too many people in the restaurant so we got a lot of attention resulting in good service. However, in the back, I guess there's a bar and the football game was on. So it was kind of irritating to randomly hear cheering or "aww man, what was that?!" throughout the meal. Eventually I tuned it out since I'm at a restaurant to eat, so the food is the most important for me =D
Appetizer: Baked Stuffed Shrimp w/ Artichokes and a amatriccia sauce
So this appetizer was pretty good. I definitely enjoyed the amatriccia sauce, it was a nice tomato sauce w/ a little cream and a little spicy. Nice flavors and it blended well. The stuffed shrimp wasn't amazing or to die for. Couldn't taste the artichokes too much, instead, I got a lot of cheese and breading flavor. However, the shrimp and the sauce together was quite delicious.
Main Course: Pollo Ripieno
This chicken was stuffed with, as far as I could remember, buffalo mozzarella, asparagus, prosciutto, and other things? mm, there was a sauce over the chicken, thyme, tomatoes, it wasn't very heavy. it was good. Came with potatoes that were covered in cheese, but they were very tender and soft. Pretty good dish overall, a little too much cheese though
Dessert: Strawberry-Coconut Tiramisu
It was VERY SWEET. Tasted more like a strawberry shortcake than a tiramisu. Didn't taste much coconut either. It was just kind of whatever.
Food was good, delicious. My friends got different dishes, which I actually liked more than what I got, but that's not the point. I think I might have to come back here to try their regular menu. -
Review from Randy C.
Great food. Needed a place to take out near Santo Road and we did the sushi next door already and I did not want the Mexican food. That left this place to try and it looked good on the Yelp reviews.
Ordered the Caprese appetizers, house salad and a veggie pizza. All good but the pizza was excellent. The crust was closer to true New York style crust as far as taste and the toppings were very good.
They included some Italian bread and Balsamic vinegar/oil dip with the salad. Salad was fresh and the dressing simple but tasty of oil and garlic.
The Caprese appetizers included a separate balsamic + oil you could drizzle on. Yum.
Pizza was piled with grilled onions, feta cheese, and slices of zuchini. As mentioned, the crust was a winner. It is a bit small for a large pizza, but with the appetizers and salad, was perfect for two. If I was dining alone, I would probably get the smaller size.
I will be back, specially when we have time to eat in. Parking is easy. Quick access off the freeway. Prices are a little high I think, but it is quality food. -

I'm a firm believer in second chances, so when Andiamo invited my friends and me back to make up for last time we jumped on the chance.
After a 2 week hiatus traveling through the Philippines, one of my first real meals i had when i got back was at Andiamo's...worth it! Our waitress suggested the creamy tomato soup to start because it was her favorite and it's now my favorite too. It was a little more tart than i'm used to, but it tasted better with bread dipped in it. My friends and I played round robin taking a bite from each others plates since we all got different dishes. I got the ravioli-like special--not one of my favorites to be perfectly honest. It was really cheesy so i couldn't taste the crab filling. Other than that it was okay and it's a good choice if you want something on the smaller side. The lobster fetuccini was just as good as it was last time and my favorite dish of the night was the veal scallopini.
As for the service, our waitress was super bubbly and so much more helpful this time around.1 Previous Review: Show all »

You won't hear about this place unless you live close by.
I know this place for the last 5 years and it's one of the best secrets kept.
It has a beautiful interior very romantic with dimmed lights.
The menu is simple but every dish is prepared with great attention to taste and look.
It's great for both lunch and dinner.
Great place if you want to have an elegant dinner and great conversation in a quiet place. -

I love seafood linguini so I tend to order some variant of that every time. Sometimes it's absolutely mind-blowing at this place, and sometimes it's just ok. The patio is very dog-friendly, and they hold doggie happy hours every so often, which I have seen while dining in the restaurant, but I haven't been to one yet. One time I bit on some sand in the salad, and the waitress and her waitress friend gave questioned me to the ninth degree. Later someone came by, apologized, and took the salad off the bill and got me another glass of wine on the house.

Andiamo's is surprisingly upscale considering it is located in a small strip mall. They use white linen cloths and the atmosphere is very cozy and romantic with real candles burning on every table. Service was wonderful and the food was great. We had the spicy meatballs with linguine and the eggplant lanagne. The table red cabernet was fantastic, very smooth. Great get away!
