When I lived in Austin, Anderson's was my go-to place for coffee and all manner of tasty tidbits. The changes of the seasons brought out different goodies. The somewhat rustic ambiance and the smell of coffee always delighted me. But the best thing was the delightful freshly roasted coffees.
I moved from Austin (we all make mistakes) and coffee just wasn't the same any more. A year ago, I returned for a visit. Walking into Anderson's was a pure delight! I suddenly realized that the reason I hadn't enjoyed coffee in years was because I hadn't had Anderson's coffee in years.
Now when I visit Austin, there are two experiences I seek out - dinner at La Fonda San Miguel, and shopping at Anderson's. Together, they let me know that I'm REALLY back in Austin.
Since that visit, I've been ordering from them on-line. This week, I ordered on Monday, and my order was delivered to me in Dallas on Tuesday - and that wasn't with overnight delivery!
Their coffee, their service and their very reasonable prices make Anderson's my favorite! -

These people know their stuff. And these people know their customers. And these people have it right. A (I can only assume) long-time customer came in and gave one of the owners a gift. She even winked at me as I watched this happen. Really quite sweet.
I received some ground coffee as a gift and decided to pay it forward by doing the same. I told them I wasn't quite sure what I wanted, but mentioned the type of coffee-maker each drinker had.
The perusal of mugs would be enough to bring me back. Oh, to have the time to come back and smell it all in.
I'm excited to give the gifts I bought today and I'm excited to come back for more. I know I will. -

This is an old school establishment than hasn't caught up with the times. I haven't tasted a single coffee that I liked. Their tea selections are limited as well as their coffee selections. Has anyone told them that companies are selling 4 dollar a cup coffee at the Dogtooth Coffee Cafe and their customers don't care if the price is outrageous. The uptown, trendy market doesn't seem to appeal to this establishment. A BMW, Ferrari passby, that's for sure.
Buy online at http://Stumptowncoffee... if you want to taste $60 a pound coffee or $20 a pound coffee. -

I grew up in Austin (anyone else? Other than my old high school Latin teacher? I'm starting to feel like we're an endangered species) but only dropped into this place for the first time about three years ago.
Live in Oregon now, which has its fair share of coffee houses, but every time I go back to visit the parents, I literally will buy a dozen bags of the House Blend. This is the only coffee I drink. If only for the cornucopia of Roasted Bean Smells when I open up my suitcase... sigh, heaven...

I do not like to think of myself as a SNOB.
Or maybe I do? I have been asking myself that lately?
All I know is that I am very careful about trying things I love. Because once I tasted the "Premo", I have a REAL hard time settling for anything less.
For example, a few years ago I went in to Andersons, bought an AEROPRESS (Awesome!) and a pound of beans.
Went home and experimented with my new coffee pump and I had cup after cup of the best coffee of my life. I called my wife, tweaking out on caffeine, "OH MY GOODNESS THIS COFFEE IS SO FREAKING GOOD!!! AHHHWWW I CAN NOT BELIEVE HOW GOOD THIS COFFEE IS BAWWWAAAHHH!!!"
Now 3 years have passed by and I have this to say. The Aeropress is mind blowing. I always order an Americano when I am buying a cup of coffee from a local establishment, and I have had maybe three cups that are in the same dimension as what I can get out of that AEROPRESS. Absolutely amazing!
While I used to think that it was the AEROPRESS that made any coffee amazing, I have learned that the AEROPRESS can only bring coffee to its full potential.
I have tried coffee beans from many places and NO BODY has coffee like Andersons. It is so good that I will be at the grocery store, standing in front of the Coffee, completely out at home and my eyes will be swelling up with tears looking at the sorry ass beans. Looking and looking at all of the sorry bags of coffee. I used to really like some of the more expensive bags, but they all fall way short of Andersons.
So I tell myself "SELF, if you buy coffee here, you wont make a point to stop by andersons, and every time you make a cup with theses crappy beans you will disappointed. Go with out, and get to Andersons ASAP."
So that is what I do. I love Andersons coffee so much that I will go without coffee for several days until I can get the good stuff. I love coffee, but now that I can have the best, that is what I want. The best or bust.
If there is better coffee out there, I will try it. Trust me I am looking! But as of the last three years Andersons is the winner. Java Panture and Italian Expresso is what i get the most often, but it is all good. Also, the decaf is so good! I used to think of decaf coffee as dirty brown water, or a pointless waste of time, but this Decaf is a delicious treat.
Okay so I am a snob about what I am passionate about. -

I think I'm breaking up with Starbucks. Years ago, I remember getting a cup of coffee at Anderson's but it did not impress me for some odd reason. I guess that was before I had grown up taste buds. Today, I stopped in to find Hubby a "unique" coffee scoop for his stocking since he is the brew master at our house.
After a thorough search for weeks, I found it here. On my way to pay for the only unique coffee scoop in the city of Austin, I sampled their coffee of the day. It was a rich and mellow Mocha Java. Wow. Where is the bitterness? Like I taste at Starbucks, God love 'em. (And apparently She does since billions of people buy their coffee and goodies every day.)
Anderson's is a fantasyland for the coffee and tea lover. My head spun around the neat and colorful shop taking in the mugs, cups, boxes of wonderful teas, fresh roasted coffees, packages and tins of cookies and candy, t-shirts, and coffee and tea accessories. Simply put, it's a head shop for the caffeine addict.Listed in: Gimme Caffeine!, Stocking Stuffers or Cheap…

Anderson's Coffee has been the absolute best thing we have found since we moved to Austin!!! Our morning coffee is so important, and they fixed us up with a custom blend of sumatra beans that we cannot live without now! If we run out and substitute, we are only disappointed and have to make sure we stop in and get two pounds to stock up with.
If you have issues with coffee, stop in and let them advise you, and recommend a blend that will start your day off perfectly!!!! -

As part of my rehab, I have to admit "I am an addict!" To coffee that is...
As someone always in search of my next fix, how have I only just discovered this awesome place!?! After getting brunch with a friend nearby the strong aroma of my addiction wafted by me kicking my physical dependence into high gear. The source came from a seemingly small house up the street with its doors open...ah you sneaky SOBs letting your coffee smells unto the street, drawing in the masses like moths to flames, zombies to brains, or emo teens to vampires...
The staff is really friendly and super knowledgable, they were able to take my obscure tastes and random descriptors into a blend I love! And they grind your beans for you right there just the way you want them. The small entrance suddenly opens up into a large two room store with beans, sweets, and goodies everywhere. This local store has high quality beans from around the globe and several organic options. Like a head shop for potheads, this place is lined wall to wall with coffee paraphernalia, french press, espresso, and an array of gadgets I didn't even recognize.
Bottom Line: I drive across town to get my coffee here -

If they did nothing but roast great beans, they would still rock.
Anderson's, your Italian Espresso beans, fresh-roasted, with their intoxicating aroma, rich flavor and the thick golden crema they deliver to the top of my demitasse, along with your wonderful little store from another age and helpful, friendly staff has me sworn off that bargain 2 pound package of "Kirkland Dark Roast" from Costco, no matter how much cheaper it seems.

I am so happy to have Anderson's in my life. I don't know if it is the quality of beans or Anderson's roasting process, but the coffee I brew with these beans is the most full flavored coffee I've ever had. They consistently produce a product worth buying. I recommend branching out to try many of their beans, b/c they always deliver an excellent cup.
The other huge plus: their coffee is reasonably priced. I like to try local roasters when I travel. I've seen beans up to $16 per pound. Around Austin, the going rate seems to be $12 a pound. But at Anderson's, you'll find most beans for a couple of dollars cheaper, although they have started carrying a featured bean that is usually $12 per pound. I make it a point NOT to buy the feature because one of the things I value so much about Anderson's is their lower price for a higher quality product.
The staff are also very helpful and friendly. I was recently considering giving a gift of a ChemEx. I got a thorough explanation of how it produces a better cup of coffee and all my questions were answered patiently. I decided not to price compare, because I truly appreciated the service.
Thank you Anderson's for producing such a quality product for a reasonable price. Please don't ever change.Listed in: Best place for a cup of coffee

This place has a strange smell when you walk in. It's 3 parts fresh-roasted coffee, 1 part lichen, and 1 part poop. Your guess is as good as mine.
I really don't care, though, since this place has the best value in to-go coffee that I've seen in the city. A 12 oz cup of Starbucks costs $1.50, I believe; Whole Foods and Central Market costs closer to $2. At Anderson's, a to-go cup of coffee costs $1 even, and it's better than most of the coffee at the above-mentioned places. Supposedly, their in-house roasted coffee is an even better value, but I have yet to buy it because my piece-of-crap coffeemaker couldn't really do it justice. Someday...
The quaint but attractive shop is located near the original Kerbey Lane, which sometimes makes it challenging to find parking. But I promise the effort is worth it. Stop in, drop a Washington, and enjoy a cup of Joe. -

Anderson's is the best coffee I have tried in Austin or anywhere. I started buying coffee from them several years ago and have been impressed by the consistency and quality of their product. It is a place where you want to go when you are buying fresh beans. Do not judge them by the brewed coffee they have in the store. It is often too strong and not well brewed. It doesn't do justice to the quality of their beans.
Over the years I have pointed coffee loving friends to this store and everyone who has tried it loves their coffee. Once when we were out of coffee and didn't want to make the drive to Anderson's (about 15-20 minutes from my house) we picked up some of the higher quality coffee from HEB that was about the same price as what we bought at Anderson's. We brought it home and brewed it up. I couldn't believe how bad it was in comparison to what we were used to drinking. We poured it out, threw it in the trash and made a trip. Stop by, support a local Austin business and enjoy some great coffee. Note that they will also ship to customers out of town.
Here is a bonus: Try brewing your coffee in an Aeropress. You can pick one up at Anderson's or on-line at Amazon. It is the best way we have found to make their great coffee taste even better. -

Just to walk in the door and breathe through your nose. The shop is small, and the smell of freshly ground coffee permeates every corner. Ahhh.

Thank you YELP. I would have never darkened the door of this establishment had I not come across the reviews here. I've been by this store 1000's of times, I'm sure...but, there was nothing about the store front that ever made me know I'd love what was going on inside.
I LOVE coffee...I just do. Why didn't I know about this place?
I rated it a 4, but may come back to give it a 5 one day when I have more time and experience with it.
I stopped in quickly this morning just to check it out and get that $1 cup of coffee that everyone here was raving about. Too cool....really good coffee, in decent take away cups (I ABHOR good coffee in white stryofoam) - and how cute was the little dish of sugar cubes with the golden "pick-them-up-thingie"?!
I checked out all the cups (LOVE coffee cups...they have to be the right size, weight, shape...yep, I'm anal) and they had quite a selection! So many neat things to see...and fun to browse. It smelled wonderful - and I carefully noted the staff (considering the varying reviews).
I'll have to go back and buy some beans. I'll write another review at that time. I'm looking forward to it! -

We've been drinking the coffee purchased here for over year and I've been impressed with their variety, freshness and taste. I like the java blend and the vieneese blend. We switched from costco. At first I was skeptical with the higher price point but you get what you pay for. Plus there is some satisfaction in supporting the local business!

Review from Errol M.
I was in a warm and fuzzy meeting recently and the facilitator was going around the room prompting us for concerns. After several despondent financial and relationship stories it came to me, and my only issue and truthful response was I needed to get to Anderson's because I was low on coffee. Since I don't spend more than I make and actively work on my relationships, I just don't have a lot of angst to share.
Anderson's is one of those places that make Austin Austin. Staff seem to come and go, but their quality of beans, blends, and roasts have been consistent for me and their prices are remarkably modest. I'm not a connoisseur, I can't discourse on the legacy of Peet, but I can brew some freshly ground Alfred's Blend that's just superb. I always keep their premium low-caffeine blend on hand.
Incidentally, I have nothing against caps and latts at Starbucks, I just get my personal unfettered coffee at Anderson's. In my office building's community kitchen, where there are always pots of normal coffee, I'll brew some Anderson blends occasionally just to see the quizzical RCA dog-like expressions from the unsuspecting Folgerites. The Anderson coffees go quickly, btw. I confess I amuse easily. -
Review from Tasha B.
Let me be upfront about something: I don't drink coffee.
But I have a very close relationship with two of the world's biggest coffee snobs. These normally laid back, down-to-earth folks noses go straight into the air in regards to coffee. They have been known to shriek things such as, "No, no you can't do that!!!! You will bruise the beans!!!" Or "Ooooh noooo, we don't DO flavored coffee," with a look of disdain. They cringe at the thought of buying pre-ground beans and they lament the fact that their car's cup holders don't accommodate the carafe (yes carafe) of freshly brewed coffee that travels with them everywhere they go. Pretentious much? I'd say so.
Something else they are adamant about is buying their coffee from Anderson's. As a kid, weekend activities such as softball games, birthday parties, and Girl Scout campouts were scheduled around trips to Anderson's (they are closed on Sundays so we had to make it on a Saturday, even if it was a very busy Saturday). You would think growing up in this environment, some coffee knowledge would have seeped through to me, but nope, I don't even know how to brew a cup. In fact, I'm quite intimidated by coffee and shy away from coffee shops. I get nervous trying to order, afraid that I'll make some mistake.
One day I realized I needed to buy some coffee because I had house guests coming. I went straight to Anderson's, and though I had some anxiety about ordering the wrong thing, the staff was friendly and knowledgeable and best of all, not the least bit pretentious (ahem, mom & dad!). Walking in the door, it smells absolutely divine and there are all sorts of little knick-knacks.
Quite simply, the best coffee in Austin. I just hope I don't come across as high falutin now when I say, "Oh, I only get my coffee from Anderson's."Listed in: Yelp=Therapy

Wow, what a find! For a person who goes all over town to coffee shops and has been living in Hyde Park and Cherrywood for the past 3 years, finding this EXCELLENT coffee roaster in my backyard is like a dream. No, not literally in my backyard. Anderson's Coffee Company has apparently been around for quite awhile.
We found it right on Kerbey Lane off of old 38th street in a fancy strip mall. The place smelled great upon walking in. You walk straight to the back of the store where a huge chalkboard details the many varieties of coffee available for purchase. Being relatively clueless when it comes to coffee types, I tried to describe what I was looking for to the red-aproned attendant. He suggested their Sulowesi Kolossi, which sounded interesting and ended up being wonderful. Considering that their prices are ~$10 a pound, there is no excuse for buying your coffee from the grocery store any longer. Anderson's makes some of the best coffee I've ever had and is easy to get in and out of quickly. Give it a shot! -

This is not your typical Austin coffee shop/store. They opened 31 years ago and have been roasting beans and selling great coffee and tea ever since. The store is small but fun to browse for coffee and tea accoutrements, appliances, contraptions, devices, dingbats, dohickeys, dojiggys, doodads, gizmos, implements, machines, thingamajiggers, tools and utensils. They also have a great selection of candies, cookies, and biscuits for dunking and, of course, a good old-fashion cup of black coffee that will only set you back $1.50, or so.
I went just before Easter and they had a fun selection of Easter candies! Great for a basket, or for my belly. It would actually be a terrific place to get a Mother's Day gift if your mom likes tea or coffee...or candy.
If you want the coffee but don't want to leave your house you can even order fresh roasted beans from their website. The only real drawback to this place is that they don't have a good place to sit down and enjoy the coffee....

I really love Anderson's! Their coffee is fantastic & I love shopping there. The past 2 years i was out of Austin and tried out a wide range of good coffees-Portland's Stumptown, Chicago's Intelligentsia, and NC's Counterculture. All are good well-regarded brews. In fact, i truly wondered, after some time without it, how Anderson's would measure up. Fortunately, the answer is that Anderson's continues to meet and exceed my expectations, with great taste and quality. yum!
Anderson's coffee has several roasts rated highly as a "cup of excellence". Moreover, compared to the other coffees out there, Anderson's is far more economical. Counterculture, Stumptown and Intelligentsia all sell 12oz bags of beans for over $12 whereas at Anderson's, a full 16oz is still less than $10. For a couple who goes through a large amount of coffee each month, this is important, and appreciated.
Anderson's sells many Fair Trade and Organic coffees.
A few years ago, Anderson's started offering coffee by the cup. When i was there today, i was happy to see they still offer it. A real treat, the coffee costs just $1 and is delicious, putting Pike's place to shame!
My favorite is the Red Sea Blend, but i really love trying all the different types. Recently, i've been enjoying the Nicaraguan. The staff at Anderson's is friendly, the store is inviting and intriguing. You can buy coffee filters, cool mugs, tshirts, grinders, specialty candies, and all types of coffee makers and paraphernalia.
oh yeah, Anderson's stocks a nice variety of teas and tea paraphernalia
mmm, coffee!
ps: the Holiday Blend is da bomb!
pps: i've now tried the decaf, and the 40/60 blend. Also good, and i can't tell it's decaf -

Portland, OR
My very first coffee came from Anderson's in 1978 and I've never looked back! They were "doing" coffee before coffee was cool...or, should it be, before coffee was hot?
Jamie Anderson learned his roasting skills from the paterfamilias of the American coffee movement, that is, Alfred Peet, way back in the early '70s. For those who don't know, Mr. Peet taught lots of people the roasting art, and a few of his disciples migrated to Seattle after some time in Berkeley, to sell Peet's coffee in that town under the name Starbucks.
Anderson's doesn't dive too deeply into the wacky world of single origin/estate beans, sticking to a proven variety of classic classics, and they just do those better than just about anyone...with 40 years experience in this deep, rich cup, they were doing it before most of today's coffee hot rods were even born. The best part is, well, the second best part after the quality, is the price...shop around. I live in Portland where the ultra hip Stumptown runs 12-20 per pound...and up. And it's never, ever as good as Anderson's where the top coffees go for maybe 8.95 or 9.95 max. I think you can still get some varieties for 7.95! Stumptown, y'all need to go back to school, take a big slice of humble pie, and start over!
Austin, if you like great coffee, get to Anderson's. It's just that simple. Regardless of what you hear or read, NO ONE in town does this better. -

I just recently started brewing my own coffee during the last few months. I never really made my own coffee in the past but making coffee has become a part of my morning ritual. After reading the positive yelp reviews, I decided to try the coffee from here. My first visit here was very pleasant and I was pleased to see that they had so many different types of coffee to choose from. I got the mocha java blend and it was divine-very smooth and tasty.
My second visit to this place was about a month ago and it was a completely different experience. The woman who 'helped' me was so rude and completely disengaged. She didn't seem like she wanted to bother with helping me or answer any questions. I wanted to get some recommendations and asked her about how a couple of the different coffees tasted. She wasn't forthcoming and just didn't really care to share her thoughts or provide any useful input on the 2 or 3 coffees I was asking about. She also didn't seem to appreciate my patronage either. Just that experience alone makes me not want to go back here, even though there were a few other coffees I wanted to try. -

Great place that has been an Austin tradition for years. The place that taught me that all coffee was not Folgers.
Yes, one or two of the staff have been crabby a time or two, but they have been generally knowledgeable and friendly over the 20-odd years I've been going there.
Actually, sorry, I must comment further on this issue. Folks, this is what you get sometimes when you deal with small businesses staffed by real people who are not trained into absolute subservience. If you don't like the way you are treated and it bothers you sooooo much, then tell the management. Mr. Anderson has been there almost every time I've been, he's your guy.
Or, just ignore it.
The Kenya AA is my favorite, Arabian Mocha is also darn tasty. I've mucked around with a few of their loose leaf teas, no complaints.
This is a great local business that hasn't degraded over time like so many others, give it a try. -

This is the best smell in Austin, Texas. Take your florists, salons, or restaurants... it's even better than tanning skin at Barton Creek... fine olfactory experiences all... take every one of them, and well you'd have a major stink if you put them all together. SINGULARLY, though, Anderson Coffee is The Incredible Austin Smell. Give me a candle, a spray, something. I want to be wrapped in the scent. (And now that the nose part of myself has expressed itself, perhaps inappropriately...)
Here goes:
- Really top-notch, so-fresh-it-bubbles, roasted coffee.
- I am addicted to the Fancy Jasmine green tea they carry.
- Their collection of chocolates is hard to beat.
- Head on over if you're looking for cool tea pots and coffee accessories.
One of the reviewers mentioned they're not the nicest staff. Customer service is a big deal, but I've never had them be rude to me. Are they sunshiney-give-me-a-big-hug? No. But I don't get the "hipper-than-thou" attitude too many of this town's establishments dish out. (That's right, Thundercloud. I'm looking at you.) These people know their stuff. They what they do well. I can't fault them.
I've been going to Anderson's for years. They've never let me down. They were doing the roasted beans thing way before the mermaid moved in. It is the sort of business that makes this city great.
If you like coffee, you owe it to yourself to pick up some of theirs and take it home with you. You won't be sorry. -

I've been getting my beans from Anderson's for 5 years now. First whole, then ground when the baby arrived and I couldn't risk the 6am noise :)
I love going into Anderson's -- that creaky wooden floor gives a sense of rich history with your first step. The coffee (they sell cups for a buck) is the best I've had in Austin. Thanks, Jamie! -

In this ever changing world it's incredibly comforting to have the constancy of Anderson's coffee. They've never bothered to expand - having a shop on every corner has fortunately never been their mantra..
When one enters the store, one if overwhelmed by the wonderful aroma emanating from those roasted beans. My favorite coffee is their Dark Sumatra - it's very bold but never bitter - I start almost every morning of my waking life with at least two cups.
On occasion, when they've been out of the Dark Sumatra, the staff has provided me alternatives which have also been quite pleasing. Everyone that works there is very knowledgeable and most accommodating. And when I've been unable to pick up coffee during regular hours, they've arranged for me to pick it up at Russell' s Bakery next store. How many business do you know that will do that?
Trendy coffee shops with their overpriced prissy drinks and mediocre beans will come and go, but thankfully Anderson's is here for the long haul. -

I've been going to Anderson's since I was a toddler with my mom.
It is one of my absolute favorite places in Austin. The rich coffee smell is AWESOME.
I don't buy my coffee anywhere else. The Dark Sumatra is the best.
I recently discovered you can call in your order and then pick it up - saves me 10 minutes.
I've never found a reason to complain about the staff - they've always been incredibly nice people.
I really cannot say enough good things about Anderson's Coffee. -

Cedar Park, TX
A sign that their coffee might just be good is when your mother asks you if you've brought any more of 'that coffee from that place' every time you visit. And she's talking about the 60/40 caffeine blend because her doctor told her to cut back, and as a rule, she absolutely hates decaf. But she likes Jamie Anderson's blend.
Me? I'm rather partial to the Red Sea Blend and Alfred's Blend.
The price is right, too, if you're used to buying bulk beans and not Folger's or Sanka. His coffee runs $9-$11 a pound. That's by and by cheaper than most of Central Market's stuff just down the road.
I've never had the customer service problems that have been described by others on this board. I can believe that they occasionally exist as it's a small business and not all small businesses subscribe to a doormat customer service policy.
But I usually have Mr. Anderson in his apron and bowtie serving me. Or some cute young guy serving up my beans. It's not unusual, even on a busy Saturday morning, for me to be asked three or four times if I've been helped while I'm in the middle of getting my order filled already. That's good customer service to me.
My only complaint is that I wish they'd carry more fair trade beans. -

I love the coffee here and I love the staff. I never drank coffee until about six years ago, and I got started or "hooked" on it by Starbucks caramel frappucino. Well, I've moved on since then and now that I work right by this place, this is where I go to get my caffeine.
It's $1 for a cup of good tasting coffee. The first time that I went in there, it was explained to me that the drinks that they sell there are coffee and decaf. That's it. There's one size. If you want a creamer, they have half and half. Do you prefer soy milk in your coffee? Bring your own or go somewhere else.
I've come a long way since Starbucks. I can't believe that I really drank that stuff. Thank you Anderson's. Thank you so much. -

I've been a coffee drinker since I was 15. Before that I would occasionally have a small cup from the pot my mom brewed with Anderson's coffee beans (loaded with sugar of course). I can't remember drinking any other coffee in my life. I'm 22 years old now and have always started my day with Anderson's coffee. I've been to coffee shops all around town and there is no substitute. My favorite's the colombian, so I always get a pound of that plus another pound of a random roast I feel like trying. I'm about to move to Oregon and will probably start having them mail me my coffee. It's that good.

i have to admit I was a little worried after reading some of the other reviews about the service. I found the staff to be very helpful and friendly. He helped me pick a few coffees based upon what I had liked before. I even had my three year old son with me and if you have never been here before this place is a regular china shop filled with hundreds of tea and coffee mugs and sets. Even though I brought the equivalent of a bull into their china shop, they were very friendly. I will definitely be back again!
They have a great little store with all of the coffee accessories you can imagine and some very nice chocolates and sweets. -

There's a reason why so many of the restaurants in town get their coffee from Anderson's - it's awesome. Tons of choices, something for everyone! I make a point of going by every other week for my espresso, and usually get other stuff as well. I love to support this Austin-based business!

need beans? they have the best Italian roast espresso, never bitter, just right there in the sweet spot where you like it.
need gear? Italian stovetop pot, French press, Chemex, Toddy cold brew, burr grinders - they have it all in stock.
they serve hot coffee, too, so drop in for your daily cup.
seriously, try the Italian roast, and let me know if it's better anywhere else. -

I do wish they had a sit down area, but the fact that the coffee they dispense is so wonderful--I will forgive the lack of seating. The staff is friendly and helpful, especially b/c I have a tendancy to get intimidated in such a speciality coffee place. They will totally walk you thru what you are looking for and don't usually talk down to you. The candy and chocolates, mugs and tea are great as well--I usually am trying to be good and not eat my weight in candy so I avoid those. ;)

Have always loved their coffee; their Italian espresso is the nicest around, bar none, in my stovetop espresso maker.
Unfortunately, it will be a loooong time before I go back there, if ever, since I had the rudest, weirdest treatment I've ever received in a store this past Saturday; I'm 46, so that's saying a lot.
The aloof person who waited on me could barely be bothered to mumble, and when I finished paying she SLAMMED my coffee on the counter, which was accompanied by an icy, baleful glower. (I know that's hard to imagine, but it was just so weird.)
I was completely taken aback and puzzled. My wife and I discussed going back in to ask "Did I offend you in some way?" Then we decided not to, as we have long heard that Anderson's can be this way at times.
It was really unpleasant.
I'll miss their coffee, but I'm sure I will find another place. I've heard great things about Los Armadillos on Red River--will check them out
