Group of us wanted to do something different. . .bike riding it is!
I haven't rode on a bike in over 2 decades!
We came to this location and was greeted by the owners. I asked for a red one, he was happy 2 give me one.
The workers were friendly and very thorough abt where to go on the map.
It was a good experience. It was only $9/hr! not bad! -

Get your Scwinn-g on. One of the best activities in all of Tahoe is to bike down this Emerald Bay path. Pinewood trees, paved and medium-narrow bike paths, beach breaks, "Fallen Tree" ... just do it. If you have your own bikes then you don't have to rent them, hey, good for you. You want to start your ride near this X-location on EMERALD BAY ROAD. But these guys at the rental depot do give you a map and supply you with top of the line bicycles. Mountain and cruiser bikes, with 24+speed gear shifts. Most hotels/motels locally have flyers to give you 10% off. Look for them. $9/hour per bike regularly. Completing every stop on the map, plus the return, took 3 hours.

My wife and I used Anderson's for our two hour bike ride in Lake Tahoe. The bikes were excellent and the service was friendly and professional. I agree with the other comments about the excellent customer service. We were given a great map that included many interesting things to see on our ride. It was a very pleasant experience and I highly recommend Anderson's. We will gladly use them again when we are next in Lake Tahoe.

Fantastic customer service! My family of 4 went on a Saturday around 3. There were 2 men working and they were both really friendly. We wanted to try a tandem bike and he said that we could, but they're usually more difficult to control and if all 4 of us are comfortable with riding on our own then it would be better getting separate bikes. After he went over the paperwork and the rules and all that, they got us 4 bikes and adjusted them accordingly. They also went over the speeds and gave us a map and told us the interesting places to go. We had a blast! The bikes were comfortable and easy to ride. We returned right before 5 (they close at 5) and paid. It was $9/hour, prorated.
Ohand fyi they also give you a chain and lock so you can lock up the bikes if you stop anywhere...at no extra charge! And all the bikes have water bottle holders on them. -

I haven't ridden a bike in over 14 years. The concierge from our hotel recommended this rental place. The bike trail that was recommended that zig zags parallel along the lake shore was perfect for us out of shape people. We rented the bikes early and were on our way before it got crowded. It was so peaceful and the air was fresh and clean. We only rode for 1 1/2 hrs because we wanted to have time to do some other things since this was our only full day here in Tahoe.
The employees were extremely friendly and helpful. Pointing out points of interests to see along the trail. The prices were very reasonable (I think $9 an hour). Bikes were in fine working order and they will adjust the seat as needed. -

AWESOME place and experience!
Staff were very helpful and really nice! Beautiful mellow paved trails in the forest! They showed us how to get to different special spots like some amazing beaches, historic sites and a salmon spawning viewing aquarium! Great price and great comfy easy to manage bikes too! -

Loved this place! The staff was friendly and the location and prices were excellent! We will definitely use them again the next time we visit Lake Tahoe.
The staff gave us thorough directions and explanation of the trail and where to find fun stops along the way.
We went with our two girls, 3 and 6 years old. Our 6 year old road a tandem bike with my husband and I pulled our 3 year old in a trailer.
Great family experience :D -

GREAT experience here at Anderson's Bike Rental! My wife and I were on our honeymoon and looked this place up. I called them in the morning to see if they had any tandem bikes available to rent, and spoke with who I believe is the owner. He was very courteous and said that he has three tandems and that since early-mid May is a "slow time" for them, I could call a half hour ahead of our arrival and ask him to hold the bike for us. I really appreciated this as we very much wanted to take a tandem bike ride together!
Once we arrived, we were quickly greeted and matched up with a nice tandem bike. Our bike was adjusted for our size, test ridden, and the tires filled with air. We were given a map and some pointers of the most popular as well as the prettiest places along the Highway 89 bike trail to stop and see. The staff were really helpful and friendly, and there was no "condescending description" of how a bike's gears work. The owner even told us that he shares our wedding date, and wished my new wife and I the best.
As for the ride itself, it's really quite pretty. It goes right by Camp Richardson, and the Tallac Historic Cabins, which are right on the lake.
A few helpful notes, as of 5/11/11, a tandem bike rental is $16/hour, and regular bike rentals are $9/hour. They prorate your time on the bike, and we found that at reasonable rate of speed we were able to make it through a nearby historic cabin location and nearly to Baldwin Beach. We only kept our bike for 1 hour, and feel that 2 hours is a much more reasonable amount of time to explore. 1 hour feels a little rushed.
We will definitely be back to Anderson's in the future! -

By far the best deals on bike rentals and they're located right next to the forest trails which is the best place to bike in South Lake. I had my bike but my companions didn't. We found 10% off coupons at one of the casinos at Stateline. The gal working at the casino said they had the best deals. We checked out some other bike rentals places near Heavenly and they cost triple what this place did. They also include a helmet and bike lock.

Anderson's provides a service more commonly known to owners of Mercedes-Benz, BMW and other luxury car brands - free roadside assistance. They assured me that flat tires and other bike issues were a rarity, but just in case, they would come to my rescue.
After losing $x,000 at the casinos, my friend and i were willing to bet that our luck would suck on this ride, as well.
After a few hours of riding through the gorgeous bike trail we stopped at tallac beach. The view from the shore was amazing - mt. tallac was framed perfectly between clear skies and unbelievably blue water. I took a deep breath and listened to the kids splashing in the water, the quacking geese and the hissing from my friend's bike. HISSING? Wha wha what? We both looked down and saw a thumbtack jutting from the front tire. HE tried to ride the bike back to the lot, but didn't get too far.
So we called Anderson's, explained what happened and within 10 mins THE OWNER drove to our location with a replacement bike. And when we got back to the shop (which is really an outdoor booth in a vacant lot) the owner deducted our bill for the time we lost from the flat tire. Sweet! -

Best place to rent bikes and take the paved bike trails all around camp richardson to the ice cream shop or stop to see the stream wildlife underwater aquarium. Great family biking and can stop at the Beacon for lunch, drinks....and music on the weekends.
Good bikes with locks, good directions and friendly service.
I recommend highly! -

We've rented bikes here twice. The first time was with a large group and the second time it was just me and the hubby.
The staff is friendly and helpful. The trail they suggest is really pretty and you can stop and do some hiking and sight seeing. The bikes are in great shape and the seats are SO COMFY!
I highly recommend this rental company. We're going back soon and I hope they're still open for the season :) -

My three kiddos, my husband and I rented bike from here for a evening bike ride. Service was great. Immediatley helped us pick bikes and get on the road. Evening and afternoon is the busiest times, early morning is best to avoid crowds and traffic. For a family of 5 it only cost $50 for over an hour. There are trails that lead off right from the bike rental station and allows you to see popular attractions like Pope Beach, Tallac Historic site and the underwater aquarium. Our tandem bike for our 6 year old was very wobbly and was difficult to ride, so check your bike over carefully before venturing off!

Oh, this guy is soooo sleazy, I can't even stand being around him. The owner is such a slime ball and can't seem to stop complaining about credit card fees and how he's worked at the bike rental place his entire life.
My extended family went on vacation in South Lake Tahoe and rented a house close to Anderson's. We thought it'd be fun to take advantage of Lake Tahoe's awesome mountains and outdoor sports by renting some mountain bikes and hitting the trails. We rented about 6 bikes from him for almost the entire week we were there.
He is renting mountain bikes of so-so quality with giant chain-link with padlock locks. Avoid the overview of neighborhood trails - any guide book will be much better, and he'll try to dissuade you from doing any real mountain biking. He also doesn't allow you to take the tires off the bikes, so good luck getting them in your car. The roadside assistance is only if you stay close to the bike rental headquarters in South Lake Tahoe, which doesn't include tons of good mountain biking.
Oh, and if you're a girl, expect the most patronizing explanation of gears you've ever received.Listed in: Public Transportation Whore

Referred by a friend of the owners, rented a tandem halfway through chain kept coming off or getting stuck very greasy. Wrecked our day as we were a way out. They did replace the bike when we returned and apologized then they told me they were having lots of trouble with the bike and this was a common complaint. When asked why they gave me the bike they didnt really give me a good response.
Did not get any discount for wasted time charged full amount. Will never return and will let the owners friend know never to refer others, as he works at a local resort -

The guys at Anderson bike rentals are clearly in it for the money. My boyfriend and I were treated in a rushed manner by their staff and felt like we were just another bike sale to them that morning. They barely checked the safety of our bikes and kind of pushed us on our way. And tried to sell us extra features, water, etc. For $9 an hour for a bike, you'd expect better service...
When it came time to lock our bikes (with the lock they provide), we couldn't unlock our bikes. We spent half another with the darned lock, til we called them and in their haste to get to more customers, they had given us the wrong lock combo! When we called them for help, they were really rude and impatient with us for their mistake.
When we came back, the guy was quite rude with me and said, "I thought I heard your American accent. (my boyfriend's english and they don't use combo locks like that) What you don't get these locks? Didn't you have one in high school locker."
To which I replied, " you guys gave us the wrong combo."
They didn't offer us a discount for their mistake and when we asked for a discount b/c of our time wasted on the lock, they knocked a measly $5 off our fee. They prorate by the hour but proceeded to round up and charged us every extra dollar they could.
If i'm every back in south lake tahoe, I won't be going to Anderson's bike rentals. It was not a fun experience. -

My wife and daughter and I rented bikes, and a kid's trailer to carry our chihuahua. Our experience was very similar to all the other positive reviews. The place was busy, but the staff person was very friendly and helpful. He fitted us for bikes and tested each one. He explained the gear shifts on the bikes. He gave us a map and suggested trails.
We took the forest trail to Richardson Camp and beach, and we had a wonderful time. The bikes are well-maintained and the prices are reasonable. Helmets and cable locks are provided.
I read the one negative review below; it's hard to believe we were at the same place. Don't expect to rent bikes to go up on mountain trails; this place is for families who want to rent bikes for leisurely biking. It's a great area for that kind of biking.
I highly recommend Anderson's and plan to return here. -

I went their with my family and the were very kind and friendly with us. Helped with all the adjustments and were just very nice people. After the bike ride which was very fun also because the bikes are good quality, my family and I left and I ended up dropping my watch on the ground because I took it off and it fell out of my lap as I helped my Dad get his car out of a very tiny parking space. I ended up leaving and called them to tell me if the found it and they did. We went back and picked it up, that is a good rental place with some quality people. Great place!

We had a great experience with Anderson's Bike Rental! We showed up at about 10:45 and were out on the trail by 10:55.....now that's quick. It was $25 for an hour which included 2 bikes and one kid trailer. My son hated it at first, but once we got moving, he loved it so much he fell asleep. The guys working there were really friendly and knowledgable. It was great to start off where the trail begins. Will be back next time we're in the area!

I went here per the suggestion of the Concierge desk at our hotel (Embassy Suites) and I'm happy I did! The staff is awesome, very friendly and they take time to help you find a bike that best fits you. They let you know about the trails and where to go. If you go to Lake Tahoe during the Spring or Summer, you have to rent bikes! The bikes aren't beach cruisers, they're mountain style with gears because the trail is a bit hilly. The trail leads you to the lake and to the beach. For adults, it's $9/hour. We only rode for an hour and a half but I recommend a 3 hour ride. Bring your lunch and you can eat on the beach or by the lake. The actual location is not too far from the main strip (Harrah's, Harvey's, Embassy Suites), less than 10 minutes away.

We recently returned to Andersons to rent bikes for the second time after a great first experience. We were not dissapointed as the service was friendly and top notch once again. The staff was very helpful and honestly seemed like they were happy to see us. They fitted us all with bikes and provided a map with the best spots to stop along the trail.

The Best Bike Rental and close to the paved Trail for a smooth relaxing ride and going into the beaches and Camp Richardson. Excellent service, bikes are all in excellent condition and fitted to each rider. We have been renting from them for many years and would not go elsewhere. We highly recommend this local business. They provide you with a map, parking lot, friendly and professional service. Really, you cannot ask for anything better.

We went up with a large group and rented bikes for the week. One of the people in our group wrecked and was rushed to the ER. She had bit through her lip, lost a tooth and had serious abbrasions on her face. When all was said and done, somebody had stolen the bike from the accident site. After the ordeal, we went to inform the company as to what had happened. We didn't expect him to just say ok, don't worry about paying but we were looking for a little assistance. We didn't have the bike anymore and quite a bit of money was spent at the hospital that night. While the accident is not blamed on the bike company, it was the OWNER's customer service that followed that made us very sorry we rented from this company.
The owner turned into a real asshole telling us we would have to pay for the lost bike and THEN, after following his company policies, his lack of accounting skills, lead him to believe that we had stolen the bike. This made him sneak into our camp ground and take back all of our bikes while we were at dinner. We got back and informed the police that we had been robbed. OUr friends in the group had no idea what was happening and had big plans for the bikes the remainder of the trip. When we went to confront him, he asked his staff for confirmation on our bike rentals. Mind you, he asked his staff members that were NOT working with us the day we rented the bikes.
If you rent, make sure you get eye contact and have the owner himself rent to you, if you dare. Otherwise you risk getting charged double for a shitty bike and then he gets paid again through insurance. Not to mention having the cops called on you for trying to do the right thing.
If there's any other bike company on the lake, ANY i say, then use them instead of this place. -

Redondo Beach, CA
Really good experience for my wife and me. The staff was great, they gave us detailed directions on what to see and what to expect and if you get a flat, just call and they'll come to pick you up. The rentals were really good bikes for the this type of cruising, simple gear shifts, big seats, and you're riding high and not slumped over. The weather was still pretty chilly with some light snow on the way, but you warm up fast. The best part was having the entire beach and trails all to ourselves since it was kind of chilly. All in all, we were out for three hours and It was really enjoyable and at a really good price. Thanks Anderson!

this place is ok if all you need is a "sport comfort" bike.they're by the beaches but dont rent beach cruisers? if you need real bikes for the better trails in town rent anywhere else, theyll have a better selection of bikes..$9 an hour is a bit pricy considering the bikes are barely a step up from walmart quality bikes..most other places in town charge $6 an hour for better bikes..they do have great location near an easy paved trail leading to the beaches. the staff is great!!! but if your going to tip them make sure you tip in cash or give the tip directly to the guys because they wont see a penny of tips that go on credit cards...i hear the boss likes to keep all the credit card tips to help with those credit card fees!! pretty low if you ask me!! try South Shore Bikes a mile before you get to these guys on the right hand side of the road, you'll get just as good service but better bikes for cheaper!!! and they even shuttle you to the better trails in town!!!
