Review from Lily H.
Seattle, WA
Cranky, rude staff in the skilled nursing wing of this nursing/rehabilitation/assisted living facility doesn't make for a positive experience.
I tried to obtain information about my older sister who has early-onset Alzheimer's had been in the facility for rehabilitation after an emergency hospitalization.
After leaving a message and receiving no reply, I called again, and the staff I spoke to was surly and unhelpful. It's such an imposition on them for relatives to be concerned about the health of a loved one, I should have realized.
She mumbled something in about "the Hippocratic oath" (?!) as an explanation of why they could not tell me anything about her condition and treatment.
My sister was transferred back to Northwest Hospital after 10 days at Anderson House. I spoke with a member of the night staff in the ward she was staying: this person was so gracious, helpful, and sympathetic, in utter contrast with the uncommunicative staff at Anderson House. I really felt my sister is now in much better hands, paradoxically (as the seriousness of her condition has warranted that she have to go back to the hospital).
When the time comes, based on this interaction, this is definitely NOT the kind of place I would want to stay in for myself or anyone I care about.
(As of October 2009, the Medicare rating for Anderson House, was 3 stars).
There must be other places in the Seattle area with better staff morale. Especially when one is paying through one's teeth for such services.
This is a for-profit facility, so it seems as if national health insurance couldn't be much worse, despite what the critics have been painting as the bottomless hell of "socialism."
