Salem, OR
We had a baby meltdown in the car on the way from Salem, OR to Pleasanton, CA right near the exit to Mt. Shasta. So I got on my phone and asked Yelp where we should eat. Due to the good reviews and my hankering for something spicy we chose Andaman.
I thought it was a quite a nice experience. Unlike some other reviewers issues and perhaps the odd time (6ish) we were seated immediately by a very friendly waitress. We ordered spicy basil fried rice with tofu and panang curry with tofu. The young lady told us that food comes out super spicy here so we adjusted our heat level down to medium. My wife was happy with this result and I was not, like I said I had a hankering for something spicy.
The food was out in around five minutes, first the fried rice and a few minutes later the curry. This delay in entrees used to drive me nuts at Thai places but I've come to accept it, as it seems to happen so very often. The food was good, ingredients were fresh and the flavors were what they should be.
At this point the restaurant started to fill up and I can see why others have been peeved with the place. Maybe 4 other tables at this point and a fellow comes in and orders the same thing that we had (it is a small place, you can hear everything, and I'm nosy) and she, fairly bruskly, told him 20-25 min. Also, the wait staff kept yelling at the kitchen and vice versa as if they were all getting overwhelmed.
So I would definitely go back if I'm in the area but would not expect to eat quickly if there were more than a handful of people in the place. -

Had the red curry with chicken last night, was absolutely delicious. Great atmosphere, friendly staff (especially the waitress Serena!) This restaurant is also a weekly staple of the Mt Shasta City Fire Department.

3.5 stars rounded down to 3 - not sure if I will be back (I round up 3.5 to 4, when I know I will be back even though it ain't great).
Anyway, on our California road trip, hubby and I were stopping in Mt Shasta for 2 nights. We were eating all kinds of good food on the trip, but me being Asian, I was craving Asian food. So I was really happy to see this place and it's got good ratings on Yelp! Score!!
We didn't feel like eating there, so we ordered to-go. The waitress warned us that the wait time will be 45 minutes. We said ok, and told her we'll be back. We went back to our hotel room and came back after about 50 minutes. Our food was not ready yet. Ok, we are not in a hurry (although very hungry), so we sat at one of the tables and waited. After waiting about 20 minutes, finally we got our food. But there was a problem. I ordered a cup of vegetable soup but they ran out. This kind of pissed me off, because they still had it when I ordered it, but 1 hour later, they didn't have anymore... Couldn't she saved a cup for me when I ordered it!?
The food was pretty good, but pretty average. NOT worth waiting 1 hour & 10 minutes. We got chow mein (hubby wanted Chinese, not Thai) and basil fried rice. We both got them "spicy" (you can choose spice level, spiciest is "thai spicy"). I almost ordered "thai spicy" because I love spicy food, but the waitress talked me out of it. Well, "spicy" was actually very spicy. So if you are not a true spicy food lover, don't get spicy. Go for medium. Unlike other reviewers, I thought the portions were pretty big. We couldn't finish everything we got.
Would I be back!? Hmm.. good question. Probably I will, just because there aren't much in the area. But if this place was in LA, I would have walked out when they said "45 minute wait" and never go back. -

So I've now been eating here for well over a year and they've definitely upped their game. The waitstaff is very friendly and know me by name now.
Their Tom Kha has gotten even better, probably the best I've ever had at this point. I absolutely love that they are maintaining super hot spiciness levels in their food. My favorite dishes are now the panang duck (the duck is perfect, crispy, fatty, flavorful just how it should be) and the pad talay (scallops, shrimp, fish balls, and mussels in a red curry sauce with bamboo shoots, carrots, water chestnuts, and basil), both are simply outstanding. Just finished my leftover pad talay for breakfast, mmm.
My only gripe is that the rice portions are still very small. However, service has sped up a bit, not by a huge margin mind you, but definitely faster.
Between Andaman and Vivify I am happy to have 2 amazing Asian restaurants in Mt. Shasta. Now if we only had an Indian restaurant! Like my previous review I'd give it 4.5 stars if I could, as I can never bring myself to give a place 5 stars, there's always room to improve.1 Previous Review: Show all »

The food was good. Not great, but indeed healthy and tasty.
The portions were very small for the price however. If you're hungry, don't order to share. Or order more and expect to pay more than you'd expect in a small town.
Like some of the other reviewers noted, the service is slow. Like most Thai, the people working there were very nice and apologetic about the wait times and the slow slow slow kitchen, but when you're hungry and this is pretty much the only dinner place in town (an Italian place recently closed I'm told), being nice only goes so far and then you want to have what you're paying for....some time before the restaurant closes up for the night!
I will say, the place was packed, even on a Thursday night. And people were coming in for sit-down and take-out and we're being turned away. But if that's the case most of the time, then hire and train some more people. -

Mt Shasta, CA
When I first moved to Mount Shasta, I lamented the lack of Thai food. Then Andaman opened. It was good.
I'd have to say the last few take out dinners I have ordered have been beyond good. Phenomenal.
The fresh rolls are divine. The pad thai is the best I've ever had. My husband is still raving about the panang curry. I had a red curry requesting mild. Mild made me sweat, and I consider myself a connoisseur of spicy food. Even the fried rice I ordered for my toddler was some of the best fried rice I've ever had.
Service is slow, and the prices reflect the quality of the food. But if you're patient and looking to experience world-class Thai food, Andaman is worth it. -

We visited this place for a late lunch over the President's Day holiday weekend, and it was delicious. Our two children (5 and under) were welcomed and there were other families with children dining there. One of the chefs gave us some unsolicited but helpful menu advice, and both our dishes (panang beef, and some kind of pork and vegetable curry) were really good; perfectly seasoned, actually, with no need to add salt and no desire for less salt. Mine was medium hot per my request, and husband's was hot enough to heat him up to sweaty. The kids were accommodated with sides of piping hot white rice and soy sauce.
The meal was a highlight of our food experience in the Mt. Shasta area, and the quality was comparable or better than a lot of Thai places in the South Bay (San Jose, Mountain View). The quality of the ingredients was especially good. And service was prompt and friendly. -

My girlfriend is a vegetarian. We love Andaman because you can make anything on the menu vegetarian.
She orders everything spicy. I am usually crying from mild. -

I went there twice in a week.
Love their Salmon and shrimp on a volcanic rock.
Panang curry was great, too. -

Very accommodating for vegans and vegetarians. But I think when they took out the fish sauce they should have added a little more salt or garlic to make it more tasty. Was just kind of sweet. But decent meal nonetheless and I was grateful.

Last week I tried to place an order over the phone but the owner was so rude and told me that I could not place an order. I was told that she they were too busy to do takeout, I understand she could have said please call back, but I didn't even get that. It was not in a customer service friendly way!
I feel that this restaurant really needs to work on their customer service skills especially the woman owner.
I rated it one star because of the lack of customer service!1 Previous Review: Show all »

Wife and I just got back from an excellent dinner at Andaman Healthy Thai Cuisine. We walked in right about 5:00, and the dining room was empty, so I can't really speak to the speed of the service during a rush. We were taken care of very promptly, soup right away, entrees almost as soon as we had finished the soup.
The soup, by the way, was very good. Tofu and vegetables, flavorful broth, a good appetizer that's apparently standard with your meal, because we didn't order any (and weren't charged). The wife had green curry, mild with chicken - slightly sweet, plenty of spice, garlic, basil. I ordered the basil fried rice, medium with chicken - it was about at my comfortable limit where heat is concerned. Very good. She thought it needed a little salt, but I appreciated that it wasn't over-seasoned. Everything seemed very fresh, and overall I was really happy with the quality of the food.
We had the benefit of a hostess and a server, though I'm not sure which was which - I think we arrived before one of them came on shift, and so ended up being seated by the server and served by the hostess? Anyway, we were well taken care of and my water was always full. While we were eating, a gentleman at an adjacent table was talking with the server about his last visit, talking about a problem at his last visit, though very politely and not in a complaining sort of way, and she handled it very well - thanked him for letting them know about it, brought him a free appetizer, talked with him about what had happened. I got a very good vibe in general.
The place itself is not very big, around 20-25 tables, I think? Background music unobtrusive, walls decorated with a local artist's work, general atmosphere comfortable although the place settings and napkins were all paper which is kind of meh.
The bottom line is that the food was really good, the employees really nice, and I'm definitely going to eat here again. Everything here is going to be at least a little spicy, so stay away if you're a total wuss, but my wife is a little bit of a wuss and she handled her mild curry just fine. So don't let me scare you away. -

My wife and I were surprised at the excellent, made from scratch, no industrial food quality that one would expect to find in Berkeley not in the mountains. Hooray for this family run operation (who have been swamped the past three days). Even the curry paste is house made from scratch, so you can dine without that awful industrial food taste that you find in so many out of town restaurants.
By the way they have the following seasoning levels.
Mild (for those who've never been out of town gastronomically)
Medium (for those who want to know what the food should really taste like)
Hot (not so hot really, just spicy)
Thai Hot (how its intended to be made, and you will notice it twice)
Bo Hot (crazy hot). I went with Thai Hot--a local ice cream place should start staying open late.
I had the seafood soup and the duck, both wonderful. Unlike the chemically stuff I had in Redding last week at 5 thai (a disasaster of an experiment, though clean restaurant). My wife had Tom Ka soup and red curry chicken. Every dish was as good as it gets. Who knew!
The reviewer who complained that they weren't open on Wednesday missed the fact that the other restaurants in this small town are closed Monday and Tuesday, while this one is open. Practical and good business sense. What arrogance to think the restaurant has a duty to be open 7 days a week. -

We called in a to-go order and were told it would be an hour wait (at 6pm on a week night), but we were hungry and yelp reviews looked favorable, so we went for it. Requested the Sum Tom (papaya salad) and were told that salads take an extra 20 minutes (on top of the hour?!). It ended up taking way too long, but it was delicious. True to Thailand Sum Tom. Their salad rolls were over priced (2 for $8) and had the peasant surprise of pineapple in them- yum! Noodle dish was disappointing; all the noodles stuck together. Great Sum Tom, just order when you have plenty of time.

Andaman is the new Thai restaurant in our area, so expect a wait, especially on weekends. To give you an idea, we were at Andaman's a little over 2 hours.
Positives: Mount Shasta has a new restaurant to choose from, yay! The Panang Curry knocked my socks off, the sauce is addicting. Our server had a smile on her face all night long. The complimentary soup was very much appreciated and tasty too.
Negative: The wait. We were expecting it, but it was reeeealy long. So, if you're in a hurry, I'm not sure if Andaman's is the place for you.
All in all, yummy food. We're so happy Andaman's is in town and look forward to trying the Pad Thai and Pho. -

Excellent food made with high quality ingredients!!! But don't take the reviews warning you about how long it takes to get your food lightly. I have been there a number of times and it has always taken a long time to get the food. But if you can handle the wait you will not be disappointed.

The green curry was good (medium was on the spicy side), and the people were very nice, but the service takes forever! I called in a to-go order and they said it would take an hour. They do get credit for warning me, but then it took an hour and a half. Really?? No matter how fresh the ingredients are, they have to be able to improve the situation...

Good food.
Summer rolls are tasty, but I thought is was a little over priced at $8.95 for two rolls.
Pad Thai is good, but I've had better.
Yellow curry was good as well.
FYI if you like really spicy food - order medium. You can choose mild, med, hot or thai hot - we order hot and it was SUPER HOT! -

We went to this place before climbing Shasta and enjoyed a nice dinner. We got the appetizer sampler (it was OK, but sort of too much fried stuff) and two noodle dishes, which were both fantastic and huge. The food came out very quickly and the wait staff were friendly. They're right that the spicy was very spicy. The food was kind of pricey for Thai food, though.

Four stars for service, six big stars for food. The owner is very nice, and makes the food from scatch to order, so be prepared to wait, but the wait is worth it. This restaurant has THE BEST Thai food I have ever eaten. Pad Thai (medium spicy) and the Cashew Nut Plate (mild) were both amazing. This is what Thai food should taste like. The restaurant is right across the street from Directions Boutique downtown, and it is delicious. I will be back when I visit Shasta again!
