This little place in the Oakland Airport has some tasty food!

I was traveling yesterday with two co-workers and we stopped in to get a bite and something to drink. The guy behind the bar was good natured and prompt with drinks.

You order the food like a take out and they deliver it to your table. We have the grilled chicken nachos and the pork chili verde. Great taste and nice portions. Will definitely go back there again.

The employees are friendly, the food is great and they even prepare it in the open.  The only drawback is the cost of the nice restaurant plate but without the nice restaurant experience, but you're in the right place if you want to satisfy your Mexican craving on your layover.

This 4.5 star Mexican restaurant is an an excellent choice while visiting Terminal 2 (Southwest) at the Oakland Airport.

They have something for every appetite from soups, salads, tacos, burritos, quesadillas to full dinners.

Having had their incredible burritos and taco's, and needing a  more substantial dinner, the choice was to opt for their shrimp Fajitas.  I remembered their seafood as being fresh and excellent.

Grilled shrimp, awesome guacamole....oh, did I mention their salsa bar?, server with corn tortillas, rice and pinto beans. The salsa bar is a treat, especially if you enjoy chipotle salsa!

This is a place where you order and pay, take a number and they wait on your table. My server was excellent, funny and friendly and the ambiance was "Very Airport".

I will be back soon, it's this good!

$15 for a well drink, and you don't even have any pretzels or peanuts?  That's what I get for being desperate for a drink in an airport.

As far as airport food venues go, this one is fantastic!
Great Mexican food with a bar!  I fly in and out of Oakland a lot and I pay Andale a visit each and every time!

I usually get the Steak Nachos.  They are delish!  This little joint also has a salsa bar...ummm hello!, what's not to love about that!

Check them out on your next visit to OAK.

Is there really a reason airport food needs to be so expensive? I will pay Andale the compliment that the nachos was a huge portion with generous amounts of chicken and cheese. They also have a sizable salsa bar.

That being said, they were out of taco shells. Really? That's embarrassing.

    Grilled Chicken Salad = BEST!

For $10 at the airport I got a really good value. Delicious tender moist salad on top of a bed of green leafy romaine with balsamic dressing, tomatoes goat cheese and a generous helping of avocado!

They can get pretty crowded though. The tables are smushed really closely together.

I don't fly out of Oakland all that often anymore, but when I do I ALWAYS stop by Andale for my required pre-flight margarita, which are pretty damn tasty!  I think the past few times (and this is probably over the period of a few YEARS) the SAME bartender has been working here.  I don't know why I feel the need to point this out, but I just find it odd to see a bartender working at an airport bar over such a long period of time.  Not that I'm complaining though...as long as he keeps making delicious margs!

That's really all I got on this place.  I think I've had the food once or twice, but it's been awhile and I don't really remember it.  I guess that means it probably wasn't all that great or that bad (I would have a better memory of it either way).

If you're flying Southwest Airlines out of Oakland, stop by Andale for a pre-flight margarita or two!

As far as airport food goes, I really liked Andale. I was not expecting much but was definitely pleasantly surprised with the nachos. The sated my appetite, but I initially had tried to order tacos, and they were all out at 11 on a Sunday. How are you out of taco shells that early on a Sunday?

The nachos were good, large portion of them, plenty of chicken and cheese, they had a salsa bar with four different kinds of salsa that was nice. All in all it was pretty good, would have been four stars had they had taco shells, but I guess you can't win them all.

We had an early-ish morning flight out of Oakland and didn't have time for breakfast. Husband and I both nixed Max's and decided on Andale as I had had them before at SFO.

He had the huevos rancheros and I had a steak quesadilla minus the sour cream. His was supposed to come with fruit but since we took it "to go" as there was no seating in the area and we had to sit at Max's, they forgot it. He liked it fine and my quesadilla was tasty and big. Daughter stuck with toast (from Max's) as she wasn't feeling well and had a hot chocolate from Starbuck's.

It was an expensive breakfast at the airport, but hey, that is airport food for you.

When you are already half drunk because you met one of your Vegas plane companions at a bar for a liquid lunch before heading off to the airport then just remember to pour on the charm!

If you happen to stop at the first bar inside the gates to meet the rest of your party, consume more alcohol, and then decide to get one last shot on the way to the plane it will be okay. The nice man a the bar at Andale is very intuitive. He instantly will ask "Vegas?" as you order a large round of shots and think it is funny when he has a hard time ringing them up under two separate tabs you didn't tell him he was going to have to provide. He will give you a deal because your drunk ass made him laugh.

So, you want discount drinks at the airport? Pour on the charm, it works!

Thank god I was running late for my flight. Had I had a moment more, I would have had it in for the bartenders at this overcrowded douche magnet in the Oakland Airport.

First of all, I know Matthew doesn't have boobs, but making him wait 20 minutes while they served EVERY OTHER patron in the "bar" was just outrageous. More outrageous than that was that even MY BOOBS had to wait impossibly long for a drink. Yes! MINE! When I FINALLY got my margarita (rocks, salt, in case you happen upon me in an airport bar), it was tasty and refreshing. But after all the hair-ripping and inner-raging I did waiting to get my hands on it, it should have come with a Valium for the $10 it cost.

We also got a chicken quesadilla "supremo" from their food outpost. We got it to go and saved it for the plane and I must say: it was awfully good. It was even better two and a half hours later, in the rental car, on our way to our final destination.

This would actually be a four star option, as far as airport joints go. But the bartenders intentionally ignored us, mumbled under their breaths something that rhymes with "luck" when I pointed out how long we'd been waiting, and the whole operation was more hassle than the experience warranted.

Sure, I'll be back, if I am EVER stupid enough to fly out of Oakland again.

Well if you are flying SouthWest out of OAK, and your gate is in the 28 - 33 wing, here are your choices for eats:

ASAP California Pizza Kitchen - a couple of sandwiches and pizza
Max's - shortened menu, drab seating
Gordon Biersch - Beer and take out
Andale - sit down Mexican with Bar

Andale has a pretty extensive menu for a Airport Terminal place. It has a host of creative dishes, usually daily specials, and table and chair seating.

I had the daily special, a HUGE burrito with red Mole de Olla sauce. It had HUGE chunks of chicken meat inside, black beans, etc. Served with stewed and pickled spicy julienned peppers to add a nice sour tang to go with the Mole. It put a lump in my stomach for 8 hours! Only $8.95!
Only thing was, it wasn't as hot tempurature wise as I would have liked, more warm than hot.

There are 7 groups of tables to sit at, seating maybe 35 people, but it is cramped, so at peak times better to get it to go and sit at your gate. This is right at gate 28, and so is Max and CPK.

Shoulda known better than to eat at a Mexican spot/cantina called "Andale" but it was in the airport so dining options are somewhat limited.  Besides how hard can it be to mess up a burrito right?

Anywho before I lay into the food itself let me first say a few positives.  The service is friendly.  The free tap water isn't that nasty.  The salsa bar is decent.  The chips are good.  For $11 the portions are a better bang for your buck than almost any other airport establishment I've come across.  Unfortunately that's where this happy story ends and takes a turn for the worse; because even though they give you a big pile crap, the size of the pile cannot forsake the fact that it's still crap.

When my food first arrived it was well into the latter stages of the evening and I was pretty famished from a long day of work, packing, flight delays, and the first leg of my trip, so the enormous burrito in front of me was a welcome and comforting sight.  However, upon my first savage tear into my prey, as my teeth sank past the floury tortilla skin and into the meaty flesh of the burrito, it was soon apparent that something had gone tragically awry.

The sliced "carne asada" contained within was a disgrace.  It was both overcooked and over-seasoned, with a dry chewy texture more akin to jerky and the marinade overpowered any semblance of the anticipated deliciously steaky flavor.  In addition the cilantro rice, a clear nod to chipotle's lime rice brilliance, was undistinguished, and the black beans were seemingly hardened from years of rough trade.  To tie the mess and madness all together, the guacamole and sour cream filled in the gaps, fusing the components and oozing nastiness everywhere.  I preserved and soldiered through 3/4 of the beast, but at this point I double tapped my table and pleaded no mas, leaving the mixed green salad alone.  My appetite had fallen victim to both the sheer size and malicious intent of the creation before me.

So in summary, the food sucks.  Plus my poo was both the color and consistency of their guacamole for a good 3 days after.  No bueno.  TMI???  Kidding.  Kinda.

Andale is basically like every other airport restaurant-that's-not-really-a-restaurant that has opened in the last ten years or so.  It looks kind of high end, and there does seem to be some imagination to the menu items and ingredients, but when all is said and done, you'll be disappointed in your overpriced burrito.

I expect to pay too much at the airport, but I'd also like to be satisfied.  Andale's offerings are pretty bleh.

We ate here for dinner while we waited for our flight to Vegas. I have to say... the portions here were mighty big! My bff and I shared the super quesadilla with steak. She and I were definitely stuffed at the end. Flavor and consistency was solid and I was impressed with the quality of the airport food. Didn't drink anything since we were headed to the land of free booze if you gamble so I can't comment on the bar except that it was packed!

Menu is more limited than the regular Andale locations but it was still diverse! The pricing seemed reasonable, unlike the other airport eateries who jack up their prices just because they're in the airport.

Common dining choices for the hungry flier who didn't bring her own food:
    1.) Starve,
2.) Get a sandwich in a bag that was made last Wednesday and costs more than your shoes,
3.) Get too drunk to notice you're hungry (available only the over 21 crowd, please)
    4.) Andale.

Fortunately for me, I found the last option to be not only edible, but also relatively affordable.  The salsa bar and cantina decor made it an easy choice, given that its only competition was a Juice It Up (i.e. $7 for a 12oz juice), and a Round Table Pizza ("Pizza... sort of!" )

In my opinion, all Mexican food contains the same ingredients dressed up in different outfits.   I chose the steak quesadillas because all of the ingredients were present and at a lower price than other dishes, in which you had to pay extra for the guac and sour cream.

If I had eaten this meal anywhere else, i would have said it was not bad at all.  A little pricey (around $7) for what you get but whatever, we live in the Yay Area and it's a small price to pay.  But the fact that this place was in the Oakland Airport made it the best gosh-damned food I've ever had!  In an airport.

3.5 stars... but 3 if it wasn't in an airport

When I have to fly out of OAK, I fly Southwest.  And it seems like there's a dearth of food options.  I mean, they're improving the whole food scene, but I usually don't want some Burger King fries or a Subway sandwich (or worse, a pre-wrapped sandwich) after a long day.  And even when I decide that, hey, screw it, I'll go chug a Fenton's shake for dinner, I can't warrant spending $7 on a liquid when Andale's just across the walkway.

They serve Mexican food and have a bar.  The food always comes out quickly and is fresher than most (if not all) options in the Southwest area.  I usually get the Nachos (minus carne asada).  Everything on it is pretty decent - except the pico de gallo.  For some reason their proportions of tomato, cilantro and onion are way off and it retained a nearly inedible tang to it.

This is one of the most expensive eateries at the airport and the only time I'll spend $8.50 on an order of Nachos.  Hence knocking it down .5 stars if it weren't in an airport where everything has a markup.

I'm glad that I found this Andale at the Oakland Airport!  I recently had the Baja Fish Burrito ($9.95) and thought that it was so well prepared and fresh that it could not possibly be considered Airport food.

The ordering and pickup counters are quite cramped, and the dining area small and noisy, but you can have them pack up your food in a box to eat at the gate or on the plane.

Bottom Line:  Will definitely come back here next time I'm in need for a lunch at OAK.

I as well, would not have discovered this place without our SW flight being delayed and the help of Yelp.

Let's just talk fudz, it's good. Really good. I had the El Presidente (is that redundant?) burrito, which came topped (sided?) with at least 7 or 8 very tasty sauteed shrimps as well as a heaping mound of guacamole. Extremely filling and extremely delicious, on par with most any TexMex or AmericanizedMex I've had in LA or OC.

As far as the price goes, it is a little steep. 12 bucks for my burrito. But let's face it, you're at an airport and for that price, it's worth it for the quality and amount of food you're getting.

No seats? Just take it to your gate, or on the plane, I don't even see why this is a problem. You're at an airport! There's seats everywhere...

It was 6am and I was starving.
I was lured to Andale for 2 reasons:
     a) the chorizo smells wafting over, and
     b) it was right next to my gate.

I walked away with a massive breakfast burrito.
Massive as in the size of my head.
Piping hot and chockful of potatoes, sausages, and eggs.
Ran about $8-9. Typical for an airport.

Just as I was downing the two bites, I saw a man hand over the same breakfast burrito to his wife, remarking "It's huge, I can't finish it."
... He was twice my size.
... And his burrito was only half eaten.

Lame. I finished the last bites, and happily boarded my plane ready for the day-long trek across the country. (Stupid Southwest and no direct flights to Philly anymore).

My chile verde plate made for a perfect lunch!  Reasonable prices and good tastes.

On the other hand, these people seem to run the Peet's concession that's adjacent to their Mexican restaurant.  Espressos there are made by pushing a button.  The liquid that comes out of the machine is pretty terrible.

For airport food, this is 5 star quality... but the fact is insanely expensive (given that it's just burritos and tacos), Minus one star.

The fajitas is awesome, as is the chicken tortilla soup. I never had the carnitas, but I just saw it being prepped behind the counter... looks like it would just be so tender and fall apart in your mouth.

Thank goodness there's a decent choice for food in the airport. Yey!

I was initially reluctant to get Mexican before my flight, especially since OAK traditionally had really really bad food at the terminal.  I was pleasantly surprised by the breakfast burrito.  It was really fresh (in terms of temperature - it almost felt like it was burning my hands and mouth, which is good), and the style is also fresh and unique.  The chorizo and egg and beans are almost fried together, so it's hard to tell what you're eating, but it tastes unique and good.  Probably not authentic Mexican, but still good.

Disclaimers: the burrito wasn't huge, but it still mostly filled me up.  The price was kind of high ($9.50 for a breakfast burrito, which is only available before noon), but what do you expect for an airport?  My employer paid for it, anyway.

Having moved to Northern California from the Los Angeles area where Mexican food reigns supreme, I've been searching, mostly in vain, for a decent plate of Chili Verde, or anything.  Who knew I would find it in an airport.  While not cheap, the portions are large and the food is exceptionally good.  They have a great salsa bar; the service is fast; the bar is there; now, if they could just expand so there could be more seats.  I mean, do they really need that terminal? To sit and eat, you almost always have to "hoover" until someone leaves, and then make a mad dash to the table.  It's like a game of musical chairs.  But, once you are seated, they will bring the food to you...that's nice.

LindySez: It's good authentic food - you could easily share the food- and you might have to share the chair.

Very pleasantly surprised about how great my food was!! I mean come on, the airport isn't known for having good food.  Anyhow, I ordered the Shrimp Tacos on Flour tortillas ($10.75).  Yummy!!!

Everything the kitchen was putting out looked delicious...

Seating is definitely a problem.  I sat at a table of 4, with 3 complete strangers.  Luckily, they were all nice.

Aside from that, If I'm ever at this section of the Oakland airport again, I will definitely eat at Andale again.

So much nicer than anything in the non-Southwest terminal!  If you're not on Southwest, there's a not-so-well-marked walkway right after security.  Hang a sharp left and head to the moving walkway.

Andale is still a bit of a hike, but you'll be glad you did.  They have a full bar and usually have sports on, so it's a perfect place to wait out delays.  I usually opt for their daily specials, but their regular stuff is tasty as well.  Portions are large and you can get it to-go, but you have to order chips/salsa separately.

Ive tried quite a few things here like the taquitos, burritos and taco plates.  They have a YUM salsa bar and great chips too.  I even go here when it is coming out of my pocket cuz I find it to be affordable for airport food and it's authentic! PLUS, they share the counter with Peets so I can get my sweet tea too!  Love it!!!

I had the churrizo burrito on a link flight around 8am in the morning. The burrito was piping hot and my southwest airlines plane mates were looking jealous. I think the aroma was far better than the taste. However, it wasn't loaded with sodium and there were peppers oninons and mild salsa within, so 3 cheers for something a bit healthy.

Decent but pricey airport food.  I got the carne asada nachos that easily could be split between two people.  Kinda crowded and we ended up sharing a table with another guy, but luckily he was nice about it because we had no where else to sit!

its decent airport food.  and you have a little "restaurant" atmosphere . . . almost.

since all airport food is expensive, this is no different.  so might as well get a little atmosphere for free.
