Review from Matt D.
Mark T. hits the nail on the head with his review. This place is a dump, but the food is consistently great. You are not going to get great service or decor, but the food is pretty authentic and fantastic value.
I thought we just caught them on a really good night last time, but after two more visits, I'm convinced. They even fry the tortilla chips to order here and the salsa is made daily.
Close your eyes, and eat the food at Andale's!1 Previous Review: Show all »

Review from L L.
Hamden, CT
This place is a dump. It is dark, dingy and outdated. Went there on a weekend night and there were only like 4 people there. The whole place needs a thorough cleaning. The bar surface was sticky and dirty. Then I crossed my legs and the top of my leg hit the bottom of the bar, and something sticky stuck to my pants and stained them. GROSS.
The service was great and the food was pretty good. I wasn't a fan of my entree because it was smothered in a bunch of condiments but I ordered something I am not familiar with (trying to branch out from tacos) so it is my own fault if I didn't like it. My friend's food was all good, although they got his order wrong. Prices were very good. Drinks were strong and they had a lot of beer selection. They make you order and pay for chips and salsa instead of providing them free. Not a big deal but I've never had that happen in a Mexican place before.
I really wanted to like this place but I just can't see myself ever going there again. Maybe for takeout. -

I have driven by Andale an innumerable number of times, so I was definitely less than optimistic when my wife showed me the http://Restaurant.com certificate she had purchased. The outside is not very inviting and looks nothing like a Mexican restaurant worth visiting (although they have since painted it) To say I had low expectations would be an understatement.
The decor inside is reminiscent of an old college bar from the 80's and the booths seem straight out of the Greek diner surplus store. So, when a steaming plate of authentic and delicious Mexican food reached my table, I was absolutely floored! Connecticut has many imitation Mexican restaurants and I can say with certainty that this is the most true to form Mexican food I have had here.
The food was well cooked and NOT covered in mounds of sour cream and Monterrey Jack like most places serve it. There weren't mariachis, soccer moms drunk or margaritas or tableside guacamole. Just real, honest food.
Service was very good and they had an above average beer selection. If you want salt rimmed drinks and plates of nachos, you may want to skip Andale, but you'll be missing some of the best Mexican food you've ever had if you choose to do so. -

This place is a bar that mostly is where the Quinnipiac Univ kids go on Friday nights. It gets packed with college kids, so if you don't want a young crowd don't go late on weekends.
They serve foods but I didn't try it- but it smelt and looked excellent! Especially the wings.
The nice part I liked is their beer choice. They didn't have much on tap but they had a huge fridge filled with different beers... probably around 40 choices from Harp to Hooker's Ale to Fosters... not a typical Mexican restaurant beer choice- its nice!
The bartenders were clueless with fancy mixed drinks- asked one girl for a Cosmo, she had no clue how to make it and asked the other girl to make it. Had to wait a while for it and remind her. She finally made it and tasted nothing like a cosmo because she never made one before. wtf a bartender never made a cosmo?? They also do not pay attention at all... one of my cousin's friends would order drinks and would never get them, I don't know if they were purposely ignoring him- but the bartenders really are unexperienced.
The parking is also horrible, not nearly enough for a bar near a school. If you get there too late you have to park across the street in a dunkin donuts.
