Best grandma slice around, sooo goood- Fresh mozz, chunky tomato sauce, and crispy mmmmm.  Other slices are good, but nothing worth raving over.  GO FOR THE GRANDMA!!! ..... and eat it there so it stays hot, fresh and most importantly, CRISPY.

Ancona's used to serve good pizza, but that ship has clearly sailed away.  This area of Nassau County has tons of pizzerias, and unfortunately, none of them stand out as being "the best."  Ancona's had a nice run for a few years, but their quality has really diminished over the past year or so.  This place has been around forever and I'm sure that many locals swear by their food, but let's be honest, anyone who thinks this pizza is good is obviously living in the past.  As recently as about 2 years ago, Ancona's was, without a doubt, the best pizza in the area.  My how things have changed.  Gradually, this place began to change for the worse.  Back when the pizza was good, you could easily put up with the surly cahiers who clearly only provide the locals with good service.  But now, what's the point?  Why would I frequent a place with bad food and rude service?

My friend and I went for lunch a little before noon on a Saturday.  As always, the place had a few locals hanging around and the cashier was more interested in their conversation than taking our order.  After what seemed like an eternity, the cashier begrudgingly ackknowledged us and took our order.  A few minutes later, our pizza was ready, but we were quickly disappointed when we sat down to try our disgustingly burnt pizza.  This stuff was garbage.  Obviously, I have no proof of this, but I have a feeling that they had pizza left over from the night before and wanted to sell it rather than throw it away.  To do this, they had to over-cook it...I mean totally burn it.  This would be a total disgrace if they did this.  Especially when this place used to be so good and reliable.  If you were craving a delicious slice of pizza, a special treat amongst the monotonous pizzerias in the area, you went to Ancona's.  Unfortunately, as of now, I cannot recommend this place even to my worst enemy.

Do you like grease? They do.
And they're not very friendly to "non-regulars"
They were good about 10 years ago but now it's like, step it up
Go to Regina's in Lynbrook instead
The men who work there need to shave their chest hair because it pokes up out of their shirts. Gross!

Grandma and margherita pies. That's all you need to know. If you don't like that you are a fool. I am writing a second review just to counteract those that are wrong.

One of the earliest places I can remember eating at back when I moved to the island. Ancona has been here for a long time and it's definitely one of my favorites if partially for nostalgic reasons.

Ancona is a very standard pizzeria.  Decent sized place though a little cluttered, with your standard ambience you'd expect in a place like this.  Not a bad thing but nothing all that stands out really.  One thing I can say is the service is pretty quick making long lines feel well not so long, and the price range is fair.

But here's the big question:  How's the pizza?  All things considered... it's some of the best I've had in Valley Stream and definitely one of my favorites on the island... particularly their regular and white slices (and a Sicilian every so often since it can be hit or miss at times).  The chicken rolls are tasty too as are their heros.  Overall, I can't really complain.

If you live in or near Valley Stream, this is definitely one of the pizzerias you'll want to stop at somewhere down the line.

I don't know what everyone is raving about. But then again, I grew up in Brooklyn, the undisputed capital of freaking delicious pizza!

Average, run in and out pizzeria. They need to invest in their business. It can only gain praise from their strong fan base.

Love, love their pizza and pasta dishes. Never disappoints! I usually like to get a pepperoni and mushroom pizza. The other day I got sautéed spinach along with our family pizza order and it was so good. Not too much garlic or salt. Just right. Even the 4 year old ate it!!

I haven't ordered a pie to go in many years, but since I had just sent my husband on his way home from work next door to T&F to get me my stuffed pepper fix, I had him also pick up a pie from Ancona's for dinner since it was convenient.

Boy, was I disappointed.  It was terrible.  The slice itself was thick and doughy...chewy almost.  Nothing else was even special, but the crust/dough part just made me sick.  It seems as though you get a different type of pie when you take it to go than when you order it there.  Yuck!

Ancona is a part of Valley Stream history.  It's been there For. Ev. Er.  The days of eating a slice and sippin a soda are still swinging for the next generation of kids and teens.  I used to love that place, especially when I got a huge calzone.

Now that I'm all grown up (kinda) I realize that Ancona pizza, though very good, is not the best in the world.  It's really, really greasy--about five napkins worth per slice.  Plus, they don't deliver.

The staff is nice.  The restaurant itself is small and awkwardly laid out.  A good piece of VS for a quick slice to go with lots of napkins.

I'm new to Valley Stream and a lot of people rave about this place being a local legend... I don't get it.

The slices we flat and rather tasteless.  I could rattle off 3 places in Queens better without even thinking about it.  Take some extra time and drive up to Umberto's on Jericho.  That's a good piece of Long Island Pizza.

Will give it another shot on a whole pie, but I am not hopeful.

Oh and be careful parking... the meter men must repel off the top of the building they show up so fast.

I stop by Ancona at least once or twice a week, but have yet to be welcomed as a "regular." This probably has to do with the fact that I, unlike most people here on Long Island, am not a fan of mindless smalltalk. I've seen people have 20-minute long conversations in this place without ever really having said anything:

    - "Hey Tony, how're things? Everything alright?" (Said loud enough for the entire restaurant to hear)

    - "Billy! Long time no see! How are ya?" (Said even louder)

    - "Same old, same old. So what's new Tony, you doin' OK? How's business?"

    - One day at a time, Billy! How's Jennifer?

.... and so on, ad infinitum.

"But how's the pizza?", you ask. It's really quite good, especially the simple staple items. This isn't the kind of place you want to order a fancy slice from. Stick to regular or pepperoni.  The best thing I've had here is their Grandma pizza. It's light, crispy, has just the right amount of marinara sauce and fresh mozzarella. The only catch is that you have to eat it pretty much right when it comes out of the oven, because it goes cold fast and loses its nice crunch.
The pasta dishes and meat entrees are OK, but you can get much better at many other Italian places nearby.

    Oh, and one last thing:
If you're a girl and you're even remotely pretty, all you have to do is smile and flirt a little and magically the cheap prices are suddenly even cheaper! My cousin is always getting free garlic knots and stuff. Damn you, Y-chromosome!

Like everyone else from Valley Stream, I've been going to Ancona my whole life. I agree with a previous poster's statement that this isnt the place to go crazy and buy special slices. Stick to the sicilian and the pepperoni slices. The pepperoni curls up and the grease hangs out in there, which just goes to show how greasy the pizza really is. They could make a killing selling their excess grease to  Jiffy Lube.

If you're gonna go nuts and get a special slice, the Buffalo Chicken is really good. It could use more chicken, but it stands out because they actually put bleu cheese on it, which melts into deliciousness in the oven.

I guess to Long Islander's this place is good since they don't know good food. Long Island life is second rate and the food out here exemplifies that.  As a Queens girl growing up close to Brooklyn and in the Middle of Queens I have been spoiled by the best pizza in the world. This Ancona that these Valley Stream residents seem to love is awful. It has been a year since I have moved to VS but pizza like Ancona has only made me more antsy about getting a house in Queens and getting the hell out of Valley Stream. Ancona is good for older people who can't have anything with salt, seaons, or overall flavor. This pizza has no taste, no sauce, and overall sucks. I can make this at home which is why I never do. Ancona=crap like Long Island.

I grew up in Hewlett and went to this place all the time.  I also stop here whenever I take the train to Valley Stream since it's so close to the station.  This is by far the best slice in the area, definitely a top 10 slice on long island.  Sicilian, regular, and their grandma are all excellent.  I've had a non-pizza dinner here once and was very impressed.  Also, I find the staff is always friendly.

I agree with everything in the first review, but I'm giving it 4 stars because of their yummy peperoni wheels.  The pizza is good, it may not be the best, but it is possibly the oiliest.  After you wipe it down, you have one tasty slice.

If your not from Valley Stream and asked 10 locals what the best pizza around here is?  I'm the one who'll say not Ancona's.  But I think I'm the only one, everyone I know from VS loves it but not me though. Yes its a part of VS and its legendary but brother I'm not drinking the Kool Aid go to Genovese Pizzeria on central av. for a real slice.

Just stopped in for a chicken roll (which he put in the microwave first) and a quart of sauce for dinner tonight, and ice tea (very warm).  It cost me $15.00??? Highway Robery!    The guy did not even cut my chicken roll and could not even be bothered with putting everything in one bag.  I was not cute or a local so they will not be getting my business back.  YOU CAN KEEP THEM AND THE ATTITUDE!! Greasiest and best pizza on Long Island.  Don't bother with anything other than the standards: extra cheese, peperoni, etc.  This is true NY pizza-you won't find anything avant garde here.
