My family and I pulled into the shore late and decided to grab some grub, so we headed to the Anchorage. The length of the menu at The Anchorage is quite impressive. It is mainly seafood with a smattering of Italian food and there is a huge variety of appetizers, but there are many other options too. You can really find anything from sizzling hot fajitas too a big juicy reuben, whatever you want, the anchorage can supply. Not only are there many choices, but all the food is delectable. There seafood is cooked too perfection from the little pillows of crabmeat to the tender scallops that melt in your mouth, along with their flounder, fried till it is crispy and golden brown yet still moist. Top it off with their complimentary salad chock full of fresh lettuce, cucumbers, peppers, carrots, etc. and boy do you have yourself a meal. The chefs at The Anchorage surely care about what they're doing and keep the customer first priority, and this definitely shows through their many delectable dishes. Even the service in this place is stunning. The waiters and waitresses are polite and very hospitable, and your food arrives in no time, so you can enjoy your meal as soon as possible.
Upon entering, you are welcomed by a huge hallway, filled with black and white pictures of old time Ocean City and the general shore area. Then you are faced with three options of where to eat. First is the windowed in porch, which provides stunning views of the Great Egg Harbor Bay. Second is the dinning room which is a little more fancy, formal, and quiet. Third is the bar area. This is where we usually eat. There are tables separate from the bars, TV's all over, a couple pool tables, and crazy decorations from old license plates tacked on the wall to a big old traffic light, even a stuffed crocodile hanging upside down from the ceiling. All the food for each room is the same, and comes from the same kitchen, and although the food is just a little pricey, the atmosphere, generous portions, and downright amazing food quality makes it all worth it, so I'm going to rate The Anchorage $$ out of $$$$ for affordability.
The Anchorage has survived many years of business, 124 years to be exact, and though it experienced a devastating fire in 2006, it has made a miraculous recovery and remains very popular among the locals. I'm sure The Anchorage is just as good, if not better now in 2012, than it was on the first day, all the way back in 1888, and so I am proud to award the Anchorage with my rating of 5 stars out of 5. -

I was expecting a pretty good meal considering the throngs of people in and around this place. After over an hour long wait the food was just horrendous. I had a Caesar salad which was bland. The dressing was watered down and lacking any flavor whatsoever. The "hot" Buffalo wings barely qualified as Buffalo wings let alone hot ones. We were served crispy fried chicken pieces with very little Buffalo sauce on them. The sauce that was there would barely qualify as mild anywhere else.
I ordered an item from the "Italian Specialties" section on the menu. Unfortunately it extremely under seasoned. They didn't salt the pasta water or season the chicken. No flavor at all. The rest of my party, all six of us, had similar experiences with our orders. Unseasoned scallops, flavorless shrimp. This place left much to be desired. The beer selection was average and the decor was dated and tacky. Someone call "Restaurant Impossible". -

Went for lunch with a party of 6, everyone enjoyed the meal. Nice varied menu, good service and price tag was fair. We will return!

I don't have much to say about Anchorage, because I keep ordering the same thing.
Here's the deal: good beer selection and decent prices on food and beer. Happy hour doesn't include the good stuff, unless by good stuff you like Bud Light and such...but there is plenty of good stuff.
Buy the mozzarella sticks. Seriously. They are pre-orgasmic. I like mozza sticks, but never thought much of them. Until these. The primary reason I drive down to Ocean City these days is to stop in and throw $6 at Anchorage for their mozza sticks.
For those who aren't into that, they have a huge menu, which is probably pretty good. But I will never know. Because I will always have their cheese sticks. -

I was here for the second time over the weekend, and it was packed despite the somewhat cool weather.
There's a large bar in the middle of the room, some pool tables in the back, and on Saturday night they had a DJ so there was also a bit of a dance party going on near his table. The music was mostly pop, with some random songs thrown in. Beers were pretty cheap, which is always appreciated. -

We have driven by The Anchorage on our way to Smittys for years. Never stopped in until tonight. I had read no reviews but it seemed like your typical tourist place. I didn't expect much.
We had a bit of wait but didn't mind. Looking at all the vintage photos on the waiting area walls was nice.
We got a table on the porch which we loved. Far apart from the noisy interior.
Our server was there less than a minute after we were seated. She was attentive and pleasant the entire time, patiently answering menu questions and giving suggestions. The extensive menu is a bit hard to take in at once!
Settled on the fish special and veal sampler for entrees that includes soup or salad and 2 sides. Crab bisque was delicious as was the dungeness crab app. We could barely touch the entree after the starters but what we did eat was surprisingly good. My husband NEVER has any leftovers, but he did this time. Too full for desert. Dan, the owner, came over twice to check how we were. Nice. -

The Anchorage is simply a great bar. Somers Point has quite a few bars, but I believe this place has the best food & atmosphere. The prices are reasonable, the beer is flowing and the billiard tables are usually busy. Bars like this are slowly disappearing and I hope this place never changes. Highly recommend for those in the area at any time of the year.

I have never eaten at the Anchorage. At least, if I have, it was a long time ago and I was plastered.
Amy and I popped by for a few drinks while on vacation. Watched the Phillies game and had a couple of beers. I would have had more than a couple if the bartender had come by more than once in the two hours we were there. I do believe this place is resting on its laurels. -

Stumbled upon the Anchorage while on vacation in Ocean City. We came across the bay to get some decent seafood. The Crab Trap had a 2 hour wait and Smitty's was closed. The Anchorage looked like a very nice place to try.
This is a very large restaurant with an enormous bar. It was very crowded, and we waited 35 minutes for a table (the hostess was very accurate with her estimate). We got lucky and were seated at a table on the porch, which had a partial view of the bay. Very nice.
That's where the "nice" ended. The food was dreadful. The menu is right out of 1973, which would be fine I guess if they put forth even a tiny effort towards quality. I started with NE clam chowder. It was a glutinous bowl of salty mush. So thick that it moved as a solid in the bowl. Utterly tasteless but for salt. The worst I've ever had.
For entrees, I had mushy, greasy crab cakes and my wife had overcooked, tasteless salmon. REALLY bad stuff.
I give the place one star for atmosphere, good beer selection and friendly staff. The food gets a ZERO. Seriously, this was about as bad as it gets. -

LOVE IT! Best place to go on a weekend night. They have tons of bar tenders workin so it doesnt take forever to get a drink. The food is awesome also. I hit this place at least a few times a month.
If you're a tourist dont go, you'll ruin it. Jerks. -

This is a great neighborhood-type place. I'm probably partial because I've come there so long. Friendly and uncomplicated. Like home to me :)

I went here with some friends late Saturday evening ... the party of 4 was seated quickly and the service was great!
The beer selection is very good and the wine its has something for everyone.
We ordered a bunch of apps and they all were very good and generous proportions.
after dinner we stayed and had a few more drinks and the people watching and dance floor was more than enough entertainment . -

Came here after a Memorial Day dinner at nearby Smitty's Clam Bar. My friend and I were looking for a place to watch the Flyers game and when driving by, the place looked inviting enough and we could see a fair amount of TVs tuned to the game inside.
I can't comment on the food, as we were just here for drinks during the game, but the bar was warm and inviting, large enough to accommodate a crowd, though sparsely populated on this particular evening. Plenty of flatscreens meant that virtually every seat had a good view of the game. Attentive staff and a decent beer selection. -

We dined here while on our summer beach vacation. This place was packed, apparently it's very popular! We managed to snag a seat at the bar while we waited for our table. For dinner, I had a pasta dish and BJ had scallops. The food and service was great.

This is my second visit to Anchorage Tavern. This time I had the blackened grouper topped with crab over spinach. The portion was large and the taste was amazing. High quality fish and crab cooked to perfection. It was one of the specials of the night. At 22.95 it was a great bargain. It also came with a baked potato and a vegetable side. The waitstaff was attentive and friendly. The owner came to our table and made sure we were enjoying our meal and that everything was right. The bread pudding dessert is a must have!

Overall disappointment in food and dining atmosphere. Service was sub par with a hint of attitude. Main course was served prior to first course being finished. All seafood entres were extremely over cooked, tough and bland. Flounder franchise had breading on one side. Seafood imperial entree was floating in a pool of scallop juice. Quality in food service and management has significantly dropped over the past few years. Would only return to drink at the bar.

The food here is good, but I really like their chili. It is a bar/restaurant that usually has a line for dinner. I usually stop in for lunch and get a bowl of chilli and it is always good. The other menu items that I got over the years were also good.
