Easy to get to and very convenient to downtown. Great rooms, quiet, helpful staff. We were able to check into our room at 10:00 am! Standard breakfast. Will definitely return.

suddenly finding myself with 4 days off and a yen to get outta dodge, we decided to check out portsmouth. booked the anchorage inn on hotwire (so i had no idea what i was booking until it was booked).
the rate was very good (about $55 for a saturday night stay) and the room was serviceable. the major pluses here are the decent sized indoor pool and hot tub, the proximity to downtown portsmouth (about 1.5 miles - definitely bikeable, possibly walkable, but we drove), and free wifi.
it's conveniently located right off the highway, but is *right* off the highway. rooms on the west side of the building (200s) will deal with highway noise.
the included breakfast is nothing special. coffee, juice, cereal, toast/bagels and some muffins. we skipped it and headed in to town. -

This place is like a mom & pop version of a Holiday Inn. It's not bad, but it's not the height of romance either. It's not an Inn, it's a hotel. The rooms are identical to what you may find in any hotel chain. They have an indoor pool which is nice, but was populated by kids when I stayed there.
I would use this place again if I needed a place to lay my head nearby. It's clean, which is what you're looking for anyway! -

I stayed here once in March the night before the Eastern States 20-miler race down the road. I really liked it. It was clean, comfortable and inexpensive for the area. There is a pool and cable tv. It's less than a 5-minute drive to downtown Portsmouth and it's right off the highway. If you aren't trying to stay somewhere really fancy, then go for it!
