Sausalito, CA
Best hash browns, EVER! The veggie Benedict is awesome too! I have been a regular here for about 20 years. I love that you can still find a place in Sausalito that isn't crawling with tourists and the annoyances that come along with them. There is a reason that local traffic has kept this place in business for decades. The food is great, the prices are reasonable, and the service is always friendly. For a breakfast place with local character, this place can't be beat.

Cute Sausalito diner, fairly average food
We were trying to find a local brunch place and came here per other yelp reviews that said it was less touristy and decent. We came with an appetite and ordered the crab melt with side salad, salmon eggs Benedict with fruit, and a bowl of clam chowder. The crab melt was fairly bland, with the crab and cheese together as a indistinguishable mush on a slice of sourdough bread. The Benedict was a bit more flavorful, well made, and with tasty salmon. The clam chowder was decent with hearty chunks of potato and bacon, although lacking in the clam and less thick than we'd prefer. The fruit and the side salads that came with the plates were predictably fairly awful.
Overall, we'd probably give this place a 2.5 star rating (using 2 star as average) but given the reasonable prices and friendly service, we bumped it up to a 3. -

Found this place on Yelp looking up another restaurant. Friendly service, seemed like a family owned place.
I went for the breakfast special, smoked salmon omlette with hash brown. The salty smoke salmon with the smooth omlette hit the spot. The has brown was cooked to a perfect crisp, not one burnt piece of potato in sight. The prices were reasonable and they had a lot of different dishes to offer. -

Possibly the worst pancakes I've had in a while, but my boyfriend enjoyed his fish 'n' chips. Scrambled eggs were undercooked. Service was friendly. Not many choices for breakfast here.

I had great time here celebrating my birthday.
Service was very friendly and I liked the atmosphere.
Food was quite good. Their egg benedict was so yummy!
Generous portions, both my husband and I were really full!
Gotta love their prices as well.
They also creatively made a mini birthday pancake for us, so cute!
Will definitely go back soon :) -

With it being my first time across the GG Bridge to Sausalito, I would've preferred a better brunch to be honest. Anchorage 5 seemed to be a small place that only the locals could appreciate. We ordered "Today's Special" which was 3 scrambled eggs with salmon and capers, hashbrowns & a side of toast. My boyfriend's sister and mom ordered the Corned Beef Hash and his dad got 2 eggs with toast. Everything tasted how it is expected to taste. Nothing amazing, IMO. The corned beef hash was the best dish, though. The prices were way too high for the quality of the dishes. It just seemed like kind of a grimey place. I wouldn't go again if I had the choice.

Crab Benedict-yum!
Fresh crab, wonderfully seasoned sautéed new potatoes, friendly staff, fast service, good value. What more can one ask for on a lazy Friday? -

I found out about Anchorage 5 from a coworker. He kept talking about this place in Sausalito that had the best corn beef hash. The next best corn beef hash I ever had is from a can.
Now, the only time I will eat corn beef hash is if I'm camping, at a friends house or for dinner if its the last thing we have at the house, so I would have the stuff sporadically.
At first, I thought this place was in the touristy part of Sausalito but nope, it's tucked behind commercial buildings along the water. When I walked in, I felt like I was in a nautical time warp. The place looked like it hasn't changed since the early 80's. I wasn't too concerned about the decor, I wanted to see what the hub bub was about the corn beef hash.
We were greeted by a friendly server and took our drink orders immediately, afterwards he took our orders and our food came out in about 10-15 min. For the corned beef hash, instead of bread, I orders corn tortillas on the side. The verdict? The corn beef hash tasted superb! Definitely not from a can, I can tell it was made fresh and had some crisp in it, just the way I like it. The corn tortillas went very well with the corn beef hash.
Since eating at Anchorage 5, I've been having weird cravings for corn beef hash. -

Anchorage 5 is a great little breakfast, brunch, lunch place in Sausalito. Casual, untrendy, local type place with wonderful friendly staff. Last time I got the corned beef hash, which was AMAZING (fresh chopped corned beef, nice green peppers and perfectly poached eggs and accompanied by fruit salad, hash browns or cottage potatoes or sliced tomatoes). So delicious! You can also get the corned beef hash as a benedict too. My friends also ordered the beef nachos (pretty good and HUGE), and another corned beef hash. We also got a short stack and the pancakse Portions are just right to large, depending on what you get, but I've always walked away pretty full!
This Sunday, we ordered lunch at Anchorage 5. I ordered the crab melt on sliced sourdough ($13.95) and added avocado ($1), and it came with a small green salad (or fries or fruit salad). What made it perfect was they put the avocado on top of the crab and then melted the cheese on top of it, making every bite crabby and avocado-ey and cheesey. It was exactly what I wanted. I would get it again. Some places just slap on the avocado on top and it falls off.
MDJ ordered a ground beef chimichanga, accompanied with small salad, rice and refried beans. He also ordered a ground beef taco on the side ($3.50, which I think is too expensive.) The chimichanga was tasty and did not taste like reused rancid oil like many chimichangas at some other places taste like.
We both ordered iced teas.
This place is also kid-friendly. They have a kids menu and the last time we were there, the chef made a mickey mouse face on the pancakes for the kid at the neighboring table.
The best part and the part I'll be coming back for are the camarones rancheros. This is on their secret menu. They don't list it on the menu but you can ask for it. Some other locals had ordered it and it looked mighty delicious!Listed in: Secret Menus

Service was awesome, omelletes were better. I had the Italian Sausage, Mushroom, and spinach ommelete and it was perfect.
After walking a mile or so from the Inn at the Tides - we chowed down.
No lines - no waits - no nonsense.
Go here.
We can't wait to go back to Sausalito for many reasons but one key one is to try lunch at Anchorage 5.
While you are there, check ot the art studios across the stree or heath's ceramics. You should also go for a stroll north up through the industrial park for a real treat. You might even stumble upon the Wooden House Boat communes. Now that is fun too.
Go in small packs so you dont piss off the locals.

You know I was a bit disappointed when I came here. I expected much more from a place that was suppose to be "kept a secret from tourists."
As usual I got my eggs benedict. It was ok, nothing more then that.
The service was good, very friendly - really seemed like that waitress knew just about everyone that walked in.
We had a pain in the ass time finding this placea. Although when we found it, it kind of seemed obvious....its just hidden behind a pretty big building.
Their orange juice was kind of disappointing. They packed it with loads of sugar and took away that delicious citrusy taste that I love. =( -

I read such great reviews about this place on Yelp. So we decided to give it a try after our hike. The place wasn't crowded at all for being a Sat morning. I ordered eggs, links, potatoes and french toast. My girl got an omelet filled with peppers and spicy sausage and pancakes. It was good but we weren't impressed. The french toast were a disappoint. I'd try somewhere else before coming back.

Review from Ed U.
Now I know how Hiram Bingham must have felt when he discovered Machu Picchu on that Peruvian mountain ridge under all that jungle foliage. OK, Anchorage 5 is not exactly a lost civilization, but it is quite a jewel hidden away on a side street in Sausalito that I only knew before as the route to the Heath Ceramics warehouse. Your appraisal of this jewel's value will really depend on your appetite for greasy spoon fare. Mine was big, so was Jamie W.'s as we were starting our weekend journey north to Mendocino.
It was raining buckets on Saturday morning when we came upon a nondescript, low-level office building that happen to have a small sign within view from the road. When we sauntered in past 10AM, the nautical-themed place was buzzing with locals who knew exactly what they were ordering. Meanwhile, Jamie and I tried to read one of their hefty menus complete with prawn and crab specials detailed on their own menu inserts. Jamie leaned toward lunch and ordered the $11.95 Patty Melt with Fries (see photo). Good and hearty and no complaints.
Mine was decadently different under a plain brown wrapper. It was the $11.95 Corned Beef Hash, which was hand-shaved brisket mixed with chopped bell peppers and diced potatoes and then grilled. Savory tasty with two spoon-coddled poached eggs ladled on top and a side of hash browns that was definitely slathered in butter on the grill (see photo). It was just a nice twist on a breakfast classic that really satisfied. Service was a tad spotty once the food arrived as I was waiting for my coffee refill, but it was forgivable since the place was crowding pretty consistently. If we find ourselves crossing the bridge again, we would definitely come back here.
FOOD - 4 stars...really good eats, nice execution on old favorites
AMBIANCE - 4 stars...cozy diner setting in what feels like the boonies of Sausalito
SERVICE - 3 stars...like I said, a tad spotty
TOTAL - 4 stars...my Machu Picchu...where's the souvenir store? -

Excellent breakfast. Found them on yelp when trying to find a good place between the city and Sacramento. No tourists, locals only, we arrived at 930 am, plenty of parking. Had two orders of the breakfast special (scrambled eggs, capers and smoked salmon), one order of French toast with bacon and hash browns, and one order of bacon & ham omelette with extra crispy potato nuggets with salsa. 4 happy customers leaving 55 minutes later. It was bombastic! Casual kitschy decor and the owner is as genuine as your long lost best friend. By 1015, there wasn't a seat open, but several of the diners (including my party), hustled along to free up our tables. To me, that was the most impressive. We enjoyed ours so much, that we wanted to share and let others enjoy theirs.
This place is the best! -

Whenever I find myself in Sausalito, this is the place I go for a good breakfast. As many times as I've been here, they usually know what I want as soon as I sit down - corned beef hash! Yes, and they know how to make it here - it's among the best I've ever had. It's the real deal, made of cut up corned beed (not Alpo corned beef), potatoes, onion and green bell peppers. I know many people are turned off by the peppers, but they work for me. Top it off with two perfect poached eggs, and you have breakfast, baby!
Attentive and friendly servers, good coffee and good food. It's a winner! Cheap, it ain't but I never feel like I paid too much.Listed in: Bay Area Time!

Sausalito, CA
This is a hidden gem in Saus. I started coming here with my neighbor for lunch sometimes. Then, I started frequenting Anch for breakfast.
They have a great breaky menu and a very good Mexican assortment. It's mostly locals because it's out of the way. And, for Sausalito, very good prices. Try the prawn Quesadilla. It's full of garlicky, shrimpy deliciousness! I also like the banana pancakes.
I also love the people that work there and the nautical/old school san fran vibe of this venerable joint. -

Came here for lunch on my birthday with my co-workers. We wanted to try something new, and in all honesty it was good but not great. I actually don't even remember what I ate there, but I do remember saying that it was good. I guess overall it was ok, if it didn't leave much of an impression on me an I can't remember much about it.
I do believe that they have some outside tables, so that would be nice in the summer. Overall though, I just don't remember much about it. -

San Anselmo, CA
Enough, enough, of this breakfast junk
You would think by now a decent place would surface
Nope, nilly nope, absolutely not
All we get at most places is tater tots
From eggs to toast it's just a prison meal
Even though I never steal
American cheese and that yada woowee
Ham from the pharmacy and veggies from mickey dee's
How oh how will they ever please?
After seeing this place on Yelp,
Being tired of food that tasted like kelp,
We seeked help.
I continued to nag,
So off the main drag,
We finally coasted right down to Anchorage 5.
At seven thirty
We stepped in here to get away from all the noise of all those little birdies
Self-seating ourselves in a booth,
Picking at my aching tooth,
The menu was placed before me.
Wow oh wow woopie wee!
There is enough food here to feed an elephantie
From thirty different omelets to crab Benedict
I was about to give this place a nice big kick.
In the end,
I settled on corned beef hash,
Accompanied by enough toast to give me a rash.
Soon it came out
Boiling hot
The first bite of a poached egg just took me about
It was delicious
But this was just an egg
What lay beneath was a jumbled mess
What my dining partner said was the best he ever had-
As it was good
Based on the reviews here it definitely should.
No packaged corned beef
Only fresh
A pirate might of thought that he anchored on a treasure chest
The veggies were fresh and was it all
Truly oh truly it was yummy anybody big and small.
There was toast on the side,
Buttered alright
And a jar of such a smashin' grape jelly that Dr. Atkins would screech and run away in fright.
All in all,
It was a terrific meal
And for like ten to fifteen bucks
It was also quite a steal.

Sausalito, CA
Not much changes here over the years thankfully. However, I would state that although it is off the beaten trail in Sausalito it has become "found" by tourists (not is a small part related to the high Yelp reviews). I am sure the owners love it. I guess I better get used to a little wait now when I stagger in on Sunday mornings.

After a weekend of drunken debauchery, I was hurtin' for some yummy breakfast food. My food sensei, Kiri, suggested this little diner 1/2 a block from my office. How convenient!
She recommended the Huevos Montana. Being the curmudgeon that I am, I varied it a bit and got the Huevos Rancheros. They were delicious. Just like Mom's. Only she never made those. But if she had, they might have tasted like these.
It was a lotta food (two meals easy) for not a lotta buckage, especially considering that it's in Sausalito. The menu is crazy extensive. I bet if you asked, they'd make you just about anything (within reason).
I'll be coming here...mmmmpretty much every lunch break from now on. Minus one star only because the food was good, but not great and I think they'll have plenty more opportunities to wow me in the near future.
PS: The wait staff is super friendly and attentive. I was squinting more than usual (I'm small-eyed) due to the blinding sun in my eyes and a lady who wasn't even our waitress (but did work there) wandered over and told me I could close the curtains and then pampered my slow ass by doing it for me without being asked. Love her!Listed in: The North Bay for Cheapos.

Great breakfast unpretentious place frequented by locals and sailors with super friendly service. My favorite there is their crispy hashbrowns and all their Benedicts, specially the Salmon Benedict. They also have great salads and sandwiches for lunch.
During crab season, they incorporate specials such as crab omelet, crab benedict, crab sandwich...you get the idea.
They are very friendly to dogs and have outdoor seating. I don't have much negative things to say except that I wish the restroom is indoors.
Reasonable prices on breakfast (for Marin) and you can still get real coffee here.Listed in: Top Restaurants

This is a great restaurant for locals. It's hidden away so that it's not as accessible for the hoards of tourists that descend on Sausalito (particularly in the summer). My boyfriend and I have been to Anchorage on numerous occasions and always received friendly service and good breakfast food. (We've never been for lunch, so I can't speak to their lunch food.)
We've never had to wait for a table, even though they're usually fairly busy. Their service is quick and efficient. Their eggs, hash browns and huevos rancheros are all good dishes. -

We totally stumbled upon this place and I have to tell you it was one of the best breakfast meals that I have ever had.
Of course it's a totally locals only place and off the beaten path but if you get a chance to make it over there you really should try it out.
I had the crab Benedict with the homemade Benedict sauce it was so yummy that I am craving it right now as I sit at home writing this review. -

I first learned about Anchorage 5 when I started working upstairs at one of the companies in the building. That was about 3 and a half years ago. I only work there a couple days a week, but even when I'm not working, if I'm in Sausalito and want a good, decent meal with the best service imaginable, I stop in at the Anchorage.
Having eaten there so many times over the years, I've gotten to know Regina and Louis, the owners as two of the nicest, hardest working people. In fact it just boggles my mind how much effort they put into the restaurant (more like an east coast Diner, which I love ). And the upbeat, super-friendly attitude they have is something they've instilled in every one of the people that work there, like Ruben - he's absolutely hilarious sometimes yet always fast and caring.
Honestly, I can't speak highly enough of the experience if you're looking for a warm, family-run place to eat diner style food in Sausalito.
The only thing I wish was that they offered desserts. but really, everything else is so good about this place, I don't mind -

If you like eggs Benedict this is the place to go. They have 8 different Benedict's to choose from and they are very delicious. I myself was fond of the crab Benedict. The place is off the beaten path but what a gem. It looks like a place that is in with the locals. The service was good and the food came out fast and hot. Very family oriented and I would highly recommend if you are in town or near by.

I found this on yelp and was not disappointed. I had the cornbeef hash as suggested by my server and it was fantastic. I love the setting too as it was old skool and felt like a true "locals" only place.

We ate here for the first time today after it had been recommended by a friend and we really liked it a lot! We had the Camerones Diablia which has a heat preference gauge (I wanted medium) and it was perfect. The prawns are perfectly cooked and the homemade red sauce was amazing.. it came with black beans, spanish rice, guac and sour cream and then a few corn tortillas... I could only eat half of it, the portions are grande... we also got the Huevos Montana which was equally delicious. The service is friendly with a ready smile, the ambience is quaint and local and the prices were really fair. This has moved up to one of our faves... I highly recommend

This fantastic little breakfast place has wonderful service and a truly local-only crowd. Off the beaten path, as most worthwhile stuff in Sausalito is, it is certainly not a tourist destination. Great egg dishes, wonderful Mexican breakfast items such as chorizo or huevos rancheros.
Lunches are also great but this is a breakfast destination for our family. -
Review from Arica V.
On the way to a little getaway in Bodega Bay and the bf and I needed a breakfast to get our day started. We used yelp to find this place and when we rolled up, I was a little confused. It's a cute little restaurant in what looks like the industrial part of Sausalito. I had the american omelette with house potatoes - the omelette was good but the potatoes were amazing!!! I love breakfast potatoes and this was definitely the highlight of the meal. The bf had the greek omelette and liked it. The place was very quaint and relaxing - with breakfast like at your mom's house.
