Went to see our friend's band play. This is a great place to relax with friends when there's a show going on. They make a strong drink - not sure on pricing.
Would highly recommend if you want a laid back night and want to hear some good music. I'm not sure if this place would be as fun if there was no band. -

I have been here a couple times. They have a pool table which is a plus, even though it has seen better days. They also make a good stiff drink here. We met some friends here one night when they had a band, it was a good night! Not a high class joint, and that is just fine by us.

Husband and I went here for St. Paddy's. Only 4 people in the place. Guiness was ok but I didn't really feel anything so am wondering about the mixture?????
Sadly, a guy walked in who obviously had been drinking as his face was red, loud speech, and every order word - literally - was the f-word. His "buddy" bought the pitcher and the bartendress served them. A few minutes later, the f-word man's wife showed up and then things really got unpleasant and sad. Nothing was done by the bar owner (at least I think that's who this woman was).
Their website says they have what looks like some good/interesting food. Alas, there is nothing like that there. They have ham and cheese sandwich, rosemary almonds(yum), and the f-word man was having "jambalaya." Don't know whether they have a license for this stuff or not because this place could use a serious cleaning.
Husband and I ended up upstairs where we could STILL hear the loud mouth but it was better.
Will probably NOT be going here for quite a while. Sad, really, because this place has so very much potential but it will take both a major cleaning, major reno., and a new clientele.
$5 for a glass of Guiness. Service was abysmally slow....................like they didn't want our money or something..............1 Previous Review: Show all »

Review from Corey G.
Stopped in here with my sister in law after some Hawaiian food next door. It was a bit early, and we saw a band outside fixin' to get set-up inside. Not sure whether this is a dive bar, or just a normal bar....ummm...maybe it's a "sailor bar" because of the name and it's proximity to the Sound.
Either way, this space is cool. We entered from the upper (east) entrance. Up here there were places to chill at, and I think this is where the band was going to play. We walked down the steps into the actual bar area.....oh wait! I forgot to mention the "Small Yelp World"!
Before entering, someone was coming out and I had to do a double-take, it was my Yelp homie, Angela K.! (her review is actually the reason why I wanted to come here). Very cool!
So we walked down into the bar and grabbed a table. We went with brews, and they offered some pretty nice local and seasonal options. It wasn't dead and it wasn't packed in here. Perhaps it was the lull before the musical storm. I did notice that other than Ang, my sister, and the bartenders, there were just dudes here. Sad for me, felt like I was smack back in eastern WA!
Ratios aside, this is a nice little bar to check out if you happen to be in downtown Everett. -

I must have a thing for bars in the North End that are next to train tracks (Skagit River Brewery is the other one).
The train rolls by right next to this bar and you can feel the shake of it going by in the bar and see it through the downstairs windows.
Don't forget to order your beer as the train rolls by.
Upon walking in, you see that this is a tri level place.
Downstairs is the bar with places to sit and enjoy the company of others along with get great drinks.
The middle is where you walk in and access the DJ or sound booth.
The upper level has more places to sit, a pool table and the stage where they have live music play.
I will definitely say that I didn't see it prior to the remodel effort, but like how it looks and feels now!!
Drinks are strong.
Bartender is friendly.
Definitely not a pretentious joint!!
Oh and they have Mississippi Mud Beer in the jug.
Even though there were not a lot of people in the bar when we went, we had a great time!!!
How can you not when you were the only girls amongst about 15 guys, which some were Navy guys!! Giggle.
Definitely a great neighborhood bar (even though it's not my neighborhood) and place to catch some live music. If back up in Everett, this would be one place to cross my mind to grab a drink at!Listed in: North Sound

Review from Mo M.
One of the drawbacks of getting responsible, and not spending the majority of your free time & earnings on alcoholic pleasures/barhoppin', is that where you go and how you spend your time is all that more precious.
This is a poser dive bar & mostly a waste of time.
The whole rockabilly trend is TRYING here.
You frequently get jostled by some chick in pippi-longstocking braids and plaid converse..or some dude wanting a seat...your seat...
On our last visit, the barkeep was younger, pretty rude, dismissive, rushed and confused. She had no time to respond to drink inquiries and screwed up the order/bill. One guy nearby crustily scowled & exclaimed she must be "real new".
Personally, I want a mean pickled lady barkeep who knows her shit in my Everett "dive bar".
Apparently the employees of the luxurious Everett Holiday Inn on I-5 gather here to hug, scream to Social D, and mock the other patrons.
But the privilege of hearing people's opinions about you and those in your hunting party happens a bit.
My partner in crime was openly jeered at about his clothing last visit, by a very small man with no hair and 1/2 his teeth. On another visit, a girlfriend was smashed into with no apology by two girls wrestling, who both looked under age.
That is not dive bar cheekiness, it's just stupidity.
It's not dripping with character, it's just dripping, with unclean corners and restrooms from hell.
The trains and Guinness on tap are the only shiny points.
It is true that we meet some interesting people, complete with penis piercing stories and Mormon underwear rants.
Yeah, it's a kitschy try, with it's 8.5x11 pin-up's and little seedy touches, but all the free peanuts & $1 PBR's could not make up for the unnecessarily boorish patrons/staff. Go to Seattle and treated like shit among better conversation.
We only go here when desperate for Guinness and get lucky the other patrons are mellow & hopefully older.
oh, and you can't bring your dog/goat/pony into Anchor any longer, looks like health code got violated. -

Good atmosphere and prices. Definitely a diverse crowd -- blue collar, young professionals, rockabilly types. Laid back and dog friendly. The owners are very friendly. Very chill place to be on weeknights. They get bonus points for supporting local non-profits!

I'm giving it a 4 becuase it's the best I've been to in Everett so far!
I would consider this a classic "Dive Bar"
It's go a lot of character. You walk in and you're in the upstair that has a pool table and some arcade games. One game that my friends are annoyingly crazy for is the hunting for dear game, I don't have the title, but they do indeed have a fun time killing dear that's for sure.
Anyway, you walk down the WOOD STAIR CASE to get to the bar. It's really neat with all WOOD PANELING. There's a little PATIO outside on the BAR level where you can smoke which is nice a COZY.
Another COOL but SCARES YOU OUT OF YOUR MIND feature is that this bar is located right along side, or on top of, or ON the RAIL ROAD TRACK and a TRAIN will come by like every hour and it's loud and if your drunk enough you may either not notice....or PEE your pants....especially if your outside smoking.
It's a neat place fer sure.
Have an IRISH CAR BOMB
Have a PIZZA!! -

I love this place. Old Everett is where my family originated...this is a piece of old Everett that I can tolerate. My family used to drink here...so I feel a little nostalgic.
You can't beat the Train Special...($1.00 PBR's when the train rolls by) and the remodel makes it easier to move.
All you anti-rockabilly, anti-scene, anti-what nots are a joke...just grab a drink (this is a BAR) and have a good time...or leave, cause all you do is make the lines longer and ruin the appeal...
And...you know the old timers think you ruined the appeal long ago anyway... -

As dive bars go, this is a cool one. The Anchor is located at the end of Hewitt in a fantastic old building, with an odd layout. When walking in, you will notice to the right the level raises and there is seating and a stage for bands. On the left you go down some stairs to the bar and some more seating.
I went on a Monday so as you can imagine the place was dead. There was one lady working, who I think might have been the owner or at least the manager. She was friendly although a bit slow at times. Since it was dead, I didn't mind going up to the bar each time I needed a new drink. They had a small happy hour bar menu, including a humus platter that looked pretty decent, nachos, and a couple other items. I had the nachos. They weren't the best, but weren't to bad either.
It was obvious the majority of the weeknight patrons are regulars and seemed like a affable bunch. Overall, I'd recommend the place, and if in the area will most likely visit again. -

The Anchor is THE quintescential dive bar. It doesn't dive much deeper than this. This joint is practically dripping with character, and full of characters. There's a noose hanging from the ceiling, and peanut shells completely hide the floor boards. Open the back door to reach the smoking area, and you may be just in time for the train to go by about one foot from the fencing. The first song you hear on the juke box could be Pantera, and the next could be L-O-V-E by Sinatra.
No Hewitt pub crawl is complete without the Anchor, and it is not to be missed. You have to see it to believe it. A truly bad ass bar, and one of the few in Snohomish County worth visiting. I come up somewhat regularly from Seattle. Seriously. No joke. They don't make dives like this here. Hell, there may not be another one quite like it anywhere. -

Had a great time here! Good band, Little Big Man, playing, cool people from every walk of life chilling with no attitude or"too cool for you" attitude.
Places like this a scarce these days, and one of the reasons why I choose to hang out in Everett where I live instead of Seattle where I work and most of my friends live. This is one of a handful of cool dive blue collar bars, most of which are in Everett, whose vibe Capital Hill and Ballard try to recreate.Never works though ! -

Everett, WA
New owners are cleaning the place up and it's about time. You will be disappointed if you think character and clean means the same thing. It's still old Everett, it still has the train a couple of feet away. All I can say is that I'm not afraid to use the restrooms anymore and the stench coming from the mens room is gone. I have high hopes for this place once they iron out the kinks.
just updating this a bit...Great place to listen to music of all genres. I've heard small local bands that would appeal to a wide variety of music lovers, also every now and then they feature the "Magnolia Big Band". They are fantastic. I think they will be back in March of 2011. Most third Sunday of the month a group of Scottish musicians play. If you sometimes wish you didn't live in Everett it's a great way to forget about it and get lost in the music. -

The Anchor was one of those bars I'd heard a lot about but never got the chance to visit. One night I found myself bored with my usual haunts and decided to give it a try.
The first thing I'll say is that the new work on remodeling has really payed off. The place looks great, lots of room to move around and do your thing. The staff is pretty awesome too, definitely not shy about mixing strong drinks.
Most of the people in the bar seemed to be locals like myself and generally the atmosphere was very welcoming and friendly. The only real negative thing I can say is they don't accept debit (at least last time I went there). So bring cash or prepare to be extorted via high surcharge atm.
Otherwise great bar, worth the visit. -

Yay for Train Beers! ($1 Pbr) This is the perfect dive bar, everyone from Punk Rockers to Banditos to DEK's (Dirty Everett Kids) hang out here. The new owners put in a stage so now live bands play on certain nights, the prices are reasonable and the bartenders make stiff drinks, what more do ya need?

Besides the fact that some of my friends work here, frequent here, are regulars here...I really really like this bar. The drinks are strong - and cheap and the people are pretty nice as well. I stayed away from this bar for a while, well, because I moved, but also because it seemed pretty trendy to me. Abercrombie is not the only thing that can be "trendy" mind you, but when every single person dresses the same and is really into Rockabilly...well, that's trendy and that's annoying. Besides all of that complaining, the Anchor is a great place to hang out with friends and get a little tipsy (or a lot tipsy).

Never had a good experience there. Once when I got beer on tap, it tasted like the pipes were nasty and dirty...ewww horrible memories. I think this has taken some of the Jimmy Z's crowd over?? I'll go in there if somebody I'm with wants to, but not my first or third or fourth and so on choice.

I have been here a few times this summer. The new owners have cleaned up the joint quite abit. They are very politically friendly. I have been to a couple Democrat kick offs and some earth friendly functions. Always a good time with like minded people. I could see this as nice place for politically active people and always live music friendly.

I really liked this bar, didn't know Everett would have such a nice little dive bar to offer. I was meeting up with someone here, and arrived early, everyone at the bar, as well as the patrons, were all super nice, and not in a creepy way (read my review for the North City Tavern and you'll know what I'm talking about). I walked up to the bar and ordered a drink, someone even politely offered me his stool, I declined, but thought that was really nice (who says chivalry is dead?). The bartender was really nice and can make a strong gin and tonic. I walked around the bar a little, it's a rather large, multi-level bar with live music, pool table, and you can hear the train come by every hour. I sat, and made small talk with some of the patrons, a woman came up to me and even took my picture, hah (weird...? But she said she loved my hair cut). This place starts to get packed as the night proceeds, and it was fun to just sit and talk with some of the locals and Navy folk. I would definitely come here again.

The venue has a really great old-timey, semi-dive feel to it. All old wood, and right next to train tracks. The drinks are moderately strong, inexpensive, and they even have some decent wine.
It was a very mixed crowd when I went there on a Tuesday night, but mostly cool except for the one douche who tried to start a fight over the pool table. But the staff were all friendly & cute. I'll be back. -

WHAT HAPPENED TO THIS PLACE!??! from reading other reviews i guess there's new owners? I don't find myself in everett often but when a good friend insist i come out and join some of the gals from college on a hewitt crawl its hard to say no. Sadly we started the night here which just really put a damper on things. First of all, ALL NEW STAFF. All those ladies who remind of you of the girls from death proof who were not afraid to jump on the bar with a baseball bat and threaten some guy whos perving on the little girls.....GONE. And have now been replaced with these wishy washy fake broads who reak of "you'd better leave me a tip or I'm gonna twitter somethin reaal nasty bout you mam!" Also the draw has changed. EIther I got older or they started letting 18 year old punk kids in bars. None of these lil ones look of age but probably are I just assume after the age of 21 you stop shoving metal through your face and drawing anarchy symbols on your clothes. But they are all actually fairly polite. But pray to god they don't have a bunch of ones because they will put HORRIBLE music on the jukebox. Ended up down the street after only 2 drinks here. This place used to be amazing. New owners clearly FAILED. PASS!

I love this place. It's a neighborhood pub with live music, and great conversation. Now sometimes the music is a real dud (but i'm told i'm just being old). And sometimes the music is great. the open Irish Jam sessions on Sunday afternoons are great for an early stop home and some good conversation with the locals. Holly (the owner) is always there to listen to a good story, or give a much needed laugh. And don't forget to order the train beer when the sounder runs by.
