I LOVE Anatomy. I have a hard time finding motivation at gyms and being consistent with working out. This place has really kept me energized and wanting to come back for more (which is rare for me).
I take Callie's Yoga for beginners class on Wednesday nights, which is AMAZING! I had never tried yoga before and I am hooked now. It really helps me clear the stress and tension that accumulates throughout the week and I have noticed a BIG difference in my flexiblity and muscle definition. Callie has a gift for teaching yoga and her positive energy and passion for her practice is clearly evident and shines through in her class.
I have also taken Zumba/Latin Dance and Barre Fusion classes at Anatomy which are also really great for a good cardio workout.  Carrie's Latin Dance class is really great- she is very high energy and I love that she she is always smiling. Lalo's Zumba class is also great - very intense for a good sweat.
I like the variety of their class offerings and also the diversity of people that go here. I don't feel intimidated because the people are down to earth and come in many shapes and sizes (unlike at other gyms where everyone is in top notch shape).

An amazing place to workout!! The staff are great and their positive attitude helps motivate you to push through the workouts! Never experienced a fitness studio such as Anatomy. It's a little pricey but have seen results right away. Worth every penny :)

Today my muscles ache. I can barely walk. But this is a good thing, because I've returned to my early morning spin class at Anatomy after a hiatus of several months.

The spin instructors here are great and they each have their own style. Jonathan is on Mondays -- his method is a good way to wake your muscles up for the week ahead; not too strenuous, not too easy, just right. Courtenay does spin and abs on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Her method is probably my favorite -- it's just a good overall workout. Saturdays Lisa is running the spin class, and in my opinion she is the toughest instructor. She asks you not to sway your body and do the second-position no-movement spinning that can be the most difficult. I swear, Lisa is tough. I've never seen anyone smile so much while inflicting that kind of pain.

Jeff and Amy are great and Anatomy is a good neighborhood fitness studio. I haven't taken any classes other than spin, but I've heard the quality is just as high.

Normally I'm not a big fan of workout studios.....  gyms....  any of that.    So I was thrilled to find this place.  No "scene" and no attitude.  Just good people doing good training.     I've been taking the kickboxing class and can't say enough good things.

Prices are excellent for what I'm getting.....  Jeff (kickboxing instructor) is attentive and offering direct but FRIENDLY suggestions and corrections - not in that better-than-you, "why are you so bad" way that some workout instructors seem to embody   Jeff's great.  And knowledgable.   Never judgemental or caustic.   It's professional and friendly.   Jeff's passion for what he's doing is obvious.

Oh - and the place is spotless!   .... even the bathrooms which are  usually questionable in most gyms, are kept clean .  Kudos to the staff for keeping on top of it.    The place looks brand new.   Can't recommend it highly enough.

This review is so long overdue it's not even funny. I had the pleasure of working out with Jeff, Amy, and some of their other instructors for over a year before moving to frigid Seattle (which, btw, doesn't have Anatomy, so don't move there.)
Anatomy...is amazing. No other way to put it. I'm a huge fatty, and have always been a fatty, who never exercised or did sports. And then Thia G. dragged me to Jeff's kickboxing class. It was love at first...sweat drop. The kickboxing classes are tough (so don't expect the 24 HR Fitness style let's punch the air and jump around for an hour nonsense). But Jeff is incredibly encouraging and patient. He pays huge attention to form, being a fighter himself, to make sure you don't injure yourself. After only a few weeks going to class 3x/wk I saw incredible results. INCREDIBLE. You lose fat, gain lean muscle, build endurance, as well as great friendships with people in your class as well as Jeff and Amy. The classes are fun and the rush of endorphins you get at the end is just as addicting as crack (my friends and I literally would schedule other events around the kbxng schedule. good ol' times.)
I've tried out some of the other classes as well - Pilates on Wed PM is fantastic. Never did zumba cause I have 2 left feet, but Carrie's class always looked like awesome fun.
So what do you need to take away from this?
    1) Go check out Anatomy - your first class is free, and Jeff has a variety of payment options that was friendly enough even for my nonexistent student salary (I did unlimited month - made me actually go)
    2) Don't be afraid if you're out of shape - trust me if I could do it you can too!!! No really. You can.
    3) Don't give up - trust in Jeff and you WILL see results!
    4) Petition they open a studio in Seattle, 'cause I'm in withdrawal.

PS. Aside from awesome workouts, Jeff and Amy (owners) are the sweetest people you'll ever meet. The other people working out with you are chill, down-to-earth, no frills kinda people as well, so you never feel awkward like you do at the gym next to the girl who looks like she should be in a magazine wearing full makeup and looking hot while running at 6mph while you're breathing heavy on your 2mph walk.

    Ok. The End.

There is a new business in the HP and it does the body good!  Anatomy, a beautiful little studio on York, has opened its doors to the community this week with a generous offering of free classes until April 10th! (http://www.anatomyla.c...)  I love free stuff, so I couldn't pass this opportunity up. Some of the offerings on the current class schedule include Kickboxing, Yoga, Mat Pilates, and Barre Fitness.

I was hoping to try out their yoga class since I am not particularly fond of aerobics (due to my serious lack of coordination) but the only class I was able to squeeze into my schedule was Barre Fitness... something I like to call shake-that-booty-ballet! I did enjoy the class and the instructor was great, but there are a few kinks to iron out since they are still easing into their new digs.

Some of the things that made me smile about this place...
The teal and rusty orange walls look amazing; they did a great job designing the space!
A stock of tea tree oil spray bottles for sanitizing mats and equipment.
Bottles of kombucha tea available to purchase if you want to intensify your purification and detoxification.
Huarache Azteca right next door (kinda defeats the purpose of working out, but oh so good!)

Since they just opened, I'm mostly reviewing the potential of Anatomy. And the verdict is that I have high hopes for this community studio and I'm eager to see what it develops into. The owner Jeff is oozing passion for this place... when I emailed him questions I had about the classes he got back to me right away and he emphasized that he is open to suggestions as to what classes to offer and at what times. This isn't the type of place where you sign in, sweat, and then head home without speaking a word to anyone. Anatomy is definitely focused on becoming part of the Highland Park community and giving its neighbors exactly what they are looking for in a fitness studio.

    this isn't anything like a 24 hr fitness or bally's. it's BETTER.

it's looks like an over-sized multi-tasking dance studio. i've been to one class, but i'm already in love with this gym.

it's clean, the owner is friendly. the instructors are helpful. the clients are happy.

i took the Sculpt class. loved it. it was intense. i nearly passed out, because i didn't have my inhaler. there was 3 min left in the class. i was so pissed (at myself). great class, nonetheless. i will be back! ..hopefully for the spin, barre or kickboxing classes!

I'll do squats  in the living room holding furniture over my head before you'll catch me in one of those horrible corporate McGyms.
There was a time when I made the drive from Silverlake to WeHo on weekends because I found a great small gym with a no BS vibe and great classes with great trainers.
So I feel blessed to have found Anatomy when I recently moved to HP. It's a great studio run by great people. There's a nice community vibe here.
Jeff's Executive Kickboxing is one of the best fitness classes I've taken. Emily's Abs, Buns and Arms will most definitely produce results. I look forward to taking different classes eventually. They all look great.

I very much enjoyed my first yoga class @ Anatomy last Wed. night.  Since it was my first class, it was free.

I wrote ahead of time and they responded to my email within the hour and were very friendly.

The studio itself is small, which is a nice break from a crowded gym.  The staff and instructor were both very nice.

I haven't done yoga in about a year and a half.  The class was a perfect combo of learning again and challenging myself.

I will return for another class in the future.

    Anatomy. How to describe it...

    Jonny's GRS!  (grassroots rating system)

I met Jeff the owner randomly while volunteering for Lululemon Pasadena (see review in my profile = they're awesome).

I think this is one of the few places that really give a care about you as a person. It's classes only, so the teachers are really interactive.

They even have a Kids Yoga Class on Saturday mornings!

Granted I a massage therapist, and I volunteer for Anatomy as well, so while this may be slightly biased, it's good to see it from a different angle.

I believe the most popular classes are the spin class and the exotic dance class (yes you read that right ladies.)

First class is free, and they're decently affordable for the quality you get. Most classes are small, and personalized to you.

I just got beat this morning on the Zumba class, and I'm a ballroom dancer. Whoa. And I've taken Zumba before. But not like Andrea teaches it.

You can sign up online, yes like the other s said.

    Rating:

People: both teachers and students are great, friendly, and you never feel like you don't belong.
Atmosphere: Focused, yet relaxed. Since it's a class studio, the mood really is set by two things: a banging sound system, and the awesome instructors.
Service: I couldn't say more - Jeff and Amy (the owners) are great people. Friendly, approachable, and yet focused as well (they're also instructors)

    Check them out!

Took my first class here this morning and loved it. I will definitely be back again. Everyone was really nice and the space has a cool feel.
You can sign up online which makes it easy and they have a lot of variety. Also they have classes at night and Saturdays so that works for those of us who work 9-5.
The spin instructor played better music than your normal spin class in my opinion, and he definitely gave me a good workout.
First class is free so check it out if you live around here it's a nice change from the gym.

I love going to yoga here because:
1-I can walk.  It's local so I can meet my neighbors and support our community.
2-There are NO attitudes or judgments from the staff or the other patrons.
    3-Carrie's classes keep getting better.
4-The space is gorgeous!  I feel spoiled there, with the art on the wall, the swanky bathroom, and the lush yoga mats.

I'm always up for trying a new workout and Anatomy has several classes that are unique, challenging and FUN!  I went with MO to the first class which was the Cardio Barre class and needless to say, I couldn't move my legs without a stinging in my calves...felt GREAT!

I've also been trying to bring sexy back by learning some moves in the Exotic Dance class.  Byron is a great trainer that brings out confidence in women who would be otherwise rhythmically challenged, like myself.

I haven't been to any of Jeff's classes, but they sound like they would kick your butt!

It's a fun, friendly studio that is definitely worth checking out!!

Love these guys. There are very few fitness places I feel comfortable working out at and this is one of them. Jeff, the owner, is extremely friendly and does his best to make people feel comfortable at his space.

As the class sizes tend to be small is allows the trainers to work with you on a more personal basis than the larger corporate gyms. This alone makes working out here worthwhile because I feel I am getting more from my work out.

    A++ from me! :)

Anatomy is a great place to take a class that cannot be found at your local gym.  The staff is friendly and doesn't hassle you.  The instructor (Jeffrey) is energetic and made me sweat at Zumba like I never sweated before.  I think that anyone looking to lose weight or get their body in better shape should visit Anatomy because they make working out fun.  And they let you take the first class for free!  One note, the parking can be difficult at times so bring quaters in case you need to park by a meter.

When I saw Katrina S's review of Anatomy, I was excited to see another fitness studio brave enough to be opening during these crazy economic times.
I had to go and check them out!
I was hoping to find something great to say since I think it's very important that more people in the fitness industry find ways to support one another.
Well there are PLENTY of good things to say about this new studio.
*They were offering free classes till April 10th.
How can a fitness-slut not wanna go check them out for that price : )
    * I noticed an instructor named Gelsey was on the schedule to teach a Mat Pilates class last night. I was hoping that it was a gal that had come to take class at my studio a while back and who is also associated with CTFD (http://www.yelp.com/bi...).
    It was!
The MAT PILATES (open level) class was excellent!
Gelsey was an attentive and warm instructor that gave excellent cues and really kept the exercises and the class flowing smoothly.
I would be happy to send any of my clients to her for a gentle yet challenging hour that targeted the entire body. Please, check her class out!
*They have a wide variety of classes to chose from, check out their website and schedule.
*They are also great about having everyone wipe down their mats after class. Whew, no one wants cooties!

10 STARS for the Instructor! It is nice to find a class taught by someone who I would trust with my body and the body of any one of my clients. I can be sure that Gelsey will be able to offer a more challenging class for anyone who would request one since I have seen what she is capable of doing. She is not only aware of how to use her body correctly but she had a wonderful gift of being able to convey information to an all-levels class with confidence and ease.

Only 4 stars since I only got to check out one class; didn't visit the bathroom; parking can be a bit of a challenge; and some of the other classes offered aren't exactly my cup o tea but I am sure they will be great for most people.  Please, check them out and make your own decision.

I think this place will be a great addition to the east side.
    Check 'em out!
    Enjoy!

Don't let all the girly classes fool you, Jeff's kickboxing workout is one of the best in the city. That's not hyperbole, it's an empirical statement - they were just named a 'Top 5 Fitness Studio' in a Best Of L.A. poll.

Jeff is a great instructor. He's passionate, enthusiastic, and runs a high-intensity workout that will leave you gasping for breath. He's great at tuning in to your skill level, pushing you, and balancing instruction with an intense workout.

I'm not much of a gym-goer. Organized classes usually bore me, but not here. I've tried boxing workouts at 5 or 6 gyms over the last 10 years, and this is hands down my favorite. I look forward to working out here, and in the couple of months I've been stopping by, my endurance has improved dramatically.

Great people. Great space. Just another reason to love living in the Eagle Rock/Highland Park area.

This place is great. My wife and I have been attending classes for the past month and we love it. She is able to take dance classes and I've been able to take the kickboxing classes with Jeff, the owner. Unlike the big gyms that kind of ignore you and not help you out, Anatomy has a one to one feeling even with a full class. You should definitely check it out.

first i want to say that the new owner couldn't be nicer! i always feel very welcome at this gym. beyond that, i have been trying out the new classes and they are awesome. i took bollywood on monday and my arms are still sore and i had so much fun. i also took the african dance class which i wasn't thinking would be much of a workout, but it was! it was so fun too! i toni's latin jam class is amazing and i drip with sweat and i tie it all in with the gentle yoga class with zoe, which is sincerely gentle on the body, but i still feel sore the next day. since i have some neck injuries, i really appreciate this class and how it is so focused on the positions and movements, rather than just rushing through poses. zoe focuses on using our muscles how they are intended to be used in yoga. it is such a nice class and great for my sore body, after all of the other classes i have been cramming in.
i should mention that i also love the zumba teachers, carrie, vicky and miracle. all in all, it couldn't be a better place to go, get in shape, and meet cool people. oh yeah, jeff's kickboxing class kicks everyone's ass in the best way possible. i love this place!

I love working out....but I easily get bored with monotonous workouts.  I also think it's a pain in the butt to drive all over town to try something new.  I don't have that problem with Anatomy.  This place offers a wide variety of classes that suits everyone's needs..from cardio to weightlifting, from yoga to dance classes, this place has it all.  I love taking dance classes, and here I can choose from a number of different classes.  But if I need something that'll kick my ass into shape, it has that too.  You wouldn't expect a gym like this in the middle of Highland Park.  The staff and teachers are so nice... and I've never been to a gym or workout studio where the students actually go up to you and introduce themselves and welcome you to class.  I've never experienced that, especially from other women.  Try a class and you won't be disappointed
