Review from Natalie D.

I have been going to Ananya Spa for over 2 years, I selected it because the price for a Brazilian wax in Belltown was the lowest price. I was lucky to have Julianne, the owner, for my first wax ever. She is fantastic. Over the years, I've also gone to most of her other girls and Julianne trains them all to her great standard. If you are prone to ingrown hairs, ask for the bikini facial, it's a little extra but worth it!
I've also gotten facials, which for the money provide a relaxing experience that is more than just about the face.
The sugar body scrub is invigorating/ relaxing. And I appreciate a deep tissue massage that truly is deep tissue (and they provide a warm towel at the end to remove excess oil).
I've been to a lot of other local spas, and this is consistently my favorite. The services can tend towards the pricier side, but I feel like they differentiate by the extras they add on.Comment from Julieanne B. of Ananya Spa 5/24/2012

My boyfriend booked couple's massages for our anniversary.
They were amazing. We loved our massage therapist. The ambiance was great. I believe they only have street parking but it was really easy to find.
Everyone was great. Absolutely no complaints. Can't wait to come back -

I can't really compare Ananya Spa with other spas in the area because I haven't 'ventured out' just yet, but I do like it. I'd give it a 3.5 starts if the option was available. The staff is really friend although a bit gossipy.
Case and point - I've been there several times...enough times to establish a rapport with a couple of the girls who give me facials. Maybe I should get a PhD in psychology because, during my facials, I end up consulting them about their drama. I'm not going to throw out any names because these 2 particlar staff members are coworkers as well as friends, but it's rather entertaining to hear how girl #1 thinks girl #2's boyfriend is a total sleeze and how girl #2 should really work on her self esteem. Flash forward a month later where I get girl #2 to give me a facial and she ends up talking negatively about girl #1. The funniest part is how both girls tell me "Don't tell her that I told you this!"
It's not really professional of them, but I don't really mind it. It's better than watching reality TV. It's like a soap opera that I tune in each month for. I just wish these 2 girls realized that they are more frienemies than true friends.Comment from Julieanne B. of Ananya Spa 4/25/2012

I love Ananya Spa for waxing. I have been waxing since I was 15 years old and have gone through some very good places and some very bad ones- Ananya Spa is definitely one of the top ones. I wax my legs and go for a Brazilian- so far I have had appointments with most of the girls that work at the spa and they are all very good. Lately I have been seeing Julianne and she is FANTASTIC. Its so hard to find a waxing place that is clean, professional (minimal pain) and fast and this place is top on all 3. Julianne really knows what she is doing and even taught me a thing or two about waxing (after 17 years thought I pretty much know it all :-)) prices are also very reasonable- especially for the level of service you get.

Just updating to say that Kate is still my go-to girl for the brazilian. I'm in and out in no time, and so fast it's really pretty pain-free. Kate is wonderful - they've had some turnover at the spa, and thank God she's still there!
If you get brazilians you know how nice it is to be able to trust and have some rapport with your esthetician, and Kate's friendly demeanor, skill and professionalism make her one of the best!1 Previous Review: Show all »

First, let me say that if I was only rating my actual massage, I would give a wholehearted 5 stars. I had a 60 minute deep tissue massage with Jack and it was wonderful. I've never been to this spa before and have also never had an appointment with a male massage therapist, but I figured I'd keep an open mind. He was professional and friendly and made me feel very comfortable. He made sure to check with me along the way to make sure the pressure was what I wanted and that I was getting what I needed from the massage. I'll definitely go back for another appointment.
The only reason I knocked off one star is because the parking situation could be difficult. It's 2 hour street parking, which is always interesting to deal with in our crazy Seattle streets. I wish the waiting area was a little more comfortable (or at least off the street), but it's not like you'll be waiting long so it's not a huge deal.
Overall, I would highly recommend Ananya.Comment from Julieanne B. of Ananya Spa 2/28/2012

I had a wonderful massage at Ananya Spa. The Spa itself is charming and clean. The masseuse made me feel very comfortable.
I love that in their pre-service form, they ask if you like it when the masseuse talks to you -- I always feel rude not wanting to talk when my masseuse talks to me, but it takes away from my massage experience... so its' nice to be able to state your preference.
Parking is metered on the street (2 hours max, have to pay Monday through Saturday 8am-8pm). -

I started with a good first impression since It was clean and neat Spa. Also, Kate was very nice and made me very comfortable during the session by casually asking me questions. Overall it was great experience at the Spa.
But I am giving 3 star because I found out a big wax drop on my skirt and had to throw away one of my favorite skirts. I think Kate was moving fast with wax and during her move, somehow some portion of wax has dropped on my skirt. Please be careful when you put your cloth next to the wax bed. Make sure the good enough space between the bed and your cloth to avoid any incident like me. -

I found Ananya through Yelp. It has great reviews and is conveniently located across the street from my office, so I booked 3 appointments over the course of a week: massage, pedicure and facial.
The first thing I noticed when I walked in is that Ananya carries Pevonia products. This is a really high quality line, so that instantly scored points with me. They use Pevonia products for facials, which makes me feel better about paying full price for a facial.
The decor is classy and minimalist, and they make great use of their space. I like that this spa isn't overly fussy -- they don't make you put on a robe and slippers and stick your feet in a bowl of water while you're waiting. I always arrive on time or early for appointments, and I never had to wait more than 5 minutes for each of my three appointments.
I've been to MANY spas over the years, including Ummelina, the spa at Hotel 1000, Nordstrom spa, Gene Juarez, etc. I would say all of my experiences at Ananya were pretty top-notch.
The pedicure chair is my favorite of all pedicure chairs. It's huge, comfy, and plush. I wish I had one in my house. Alice was the nail technician and my toes look fantastic.
Jessica did my massage and Julianne did my facial. They were both excellent. I splurged on the Vitamin C facial -- it's worth it.
I really have no complaints.Comment from Julieanne B. of Ananya Spa 4/25/2012

I've been seeing Kate for several months because she knows how to do a Brazilian wax well. I lived in Florida for a few years and did a thorough search once I moved to Seattle. Turns out, Kate is great!
She also does a good job with facials too.
She's friendly & nice.

Almost 5 years later and I still love Ananya. I have really loved my massages with Jessica. The new location is a huge improvement and I like how Julianne and the staff are always trying to look for ways to make things better and better. If you do feel like something wasn't right talk to the owner, Julianne. She is dedicated to making her customers happy. Sometimes she even finds her own mistakes. "Michele, did that brow wax cause this redness I see here." "I guess so," I say, obliviously. "Oh, that's not good. I'll make sure that doesn't happen again." Love it!

Review from Sandie L.
I was excited after reading the Yelp reviews to try this spa out... and my experience was A-OK.
Plenty of street parking nearby and if you come on a Sunday or Holiday, street parking is free!
Nearby to the Sculpture Park and Piers it offers a nice location in the Belltown area.
Upon entering the spa, I was greeted and escorted to their "waiting area". I love my spas, but I was not a fan of their waiting area. Brightly lit hearing the some street noises as their waiting area is street-side, I felt I was in a hair salon versus a spa.
Decorations offer a simplistic urban feel. Exposed cement walls and cement flooring with touches of blue offer a cool simple feel. When visiting spas in the city or on a busy street I prefer darker window treatments to tune out that I am in the city.
I booked online for my treatments, which I thought was very convenient and a pleasant experience. I think this is a nice touch and a plus when considering future treatments.
They offer both female and male providers.
I tried their tropical salt exfoliation. I would not return here for this treatment because I prefer a shower with this treatment. But, it also taught me to look for shower option with treatments as I found out this is my preference. Also for those looking for brushes to exfoliate, my provider used her hands, which is fine for me (I've had both types before).
My swedish massage following this treatment was EXCELLENT! If I did return, I would try more of their massages. My provider had nice smooth stokes and good pressure. She also was mindful of the areas I requested previous to my treatment.
Another good feature about this spa, is the questionnaire form to new customers. I found their selection of questions to be helpful to me to give and also I feel helpful to the provider. Their questions were specific and unique in my experience. Such asking if the customer preferred talking in session or no talking. Level of pressure preferred. I thought this was also unique about this spa.
Overall a good experience with friendly staff.Comment from Julieanne B. of Ananya Spa 6/2/2011

Worst facial I've ever had. Originally, I signed up for a regular facial but she suggested a peel to give my face a more "glowing" appearance. Later that night, my face broke out in red raised bumps and my skin was burning. It looked and felt horrible. I went back the next day to show the manager and they really had no explanation. Later, I went to my dermatologist and she had to prescribe a topical steroid to help with all the inflammation that the peel had caused.

I came for the coconut milk and honey exfoliation. It was nice to have a private room and have a towel over me. The only drawback was that the room was a bit chilly. The person scrubbing is also a massage therapist so she had nice rubbing techniques. My skin was soft and smelled really nice afterward. -

I consider myself a guy's guy, so getting a facial or brow wax are pretty foreign to me. With that said, someone politely recommended I get both so I booked an appointment with Kate at Ananya Spa. I can honestly say she made me a believer!
I'll start with the brow wax. I know, it seems like a pretty simple procedure, but I was nervous. Would it hurt? What kind of wax do they use? I had a lot of questions. Kate answered all of them and put me at ease with her knowledge and friendly personality. The waxing wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it was going to be and my brows have never looked better.
I also received the Ananya Signature Facial which was awesome! Again, Kate walked me through the process, talked about the products she was going to use and how they would benefit my skin. The facial was incredibly relaxing and afterwards my skin felt and looked fresh and new.
For guys, and girls, looking to treat themselves to a relaxing spa experience I'd highly recommend Ananya Spa and Kate. Enjoy! -

I am so happy I found this spa! The place is very clean and nicely decorated. The receptionist is super nice. I had the microderm facial from Jenny. She is AMAZING and I can't thank her enough. The info sheet is definitely a great idea and it really shows how much they care about their clients.
They also carry this skincare line called Pevonia Botanica which is now my favorite product! I bought a foaming cleanser and moisturizer. My skin still feels really soft and smooth.
I am definitely coming back. :) -

Ananya Spa, how do I write this review? I have used nearly every service option and I just keep coming back.
Finding a new esthetician is always nerve wracking when depending on them to make your eyebrows look great and effortless. Then there's the whole personal, private business of the brazilian. The ladies here make this process easy! Everyone from the receptionist to professionals perform the service are calm, welcoming and create beautiful results with such high standards that you will kick yourself for ever having any doubt.
The massages are heaven, and relaxing. Try one!
I have been coming here for over a year now, and will continue to sing their praises. The location is easy to find, parking is usually no trouble, and the design and package deals are unparalleled for this level of spa. The prices are on the higher end, but fair for the caliber of skill and professionalism received.
You won't be disappointed! -

I bought a Groupon for a half price brazillian wax here. I always said I was too cheap to pay someone to hurt me, but now I'm converted.
I was able to get an appointment easily, and I was nervous when the day came. The girl at the front desk was really friendly and helpful. The spa was soothing and beautiful. My waxer, Kate, is my new favorite person. Our appointment started right on time. She knew I was a Brazillian virgin, so she was really reassuring, letting me know we could stop and take breaks if I needed to. She let me know more about the process, and made me as comfortable as I could have been, given the circumstances. Beyond all that, she's just super cool. We spent the entire session having great conversations. I was relaxed and the time went pretty quickly.
I've been back a few times now, and will continue to be back. Love this spa! -

I scheduled a microderm here after getting a Groupon & I have to honestly say this was THE best facial/massage I have received!
The spa is located on the ground floor of the Olympus apartments near the Sculpture park. Street parking was a bit of a pain to find (I went on a Sunday) but it was free, which was nice. The spa is very spacious & has a very inviting & open feel to it. I arrived early & I was offered a drink while filling out my questionaire & my appointment started somewhat on time. I wouldn't say the beds (table?) you lay on was the most comfortable. It literally felt like a cot with sheet over it & had no neck support or pillow, but the rest of the treatment was phenomenol so I am willing to overlook the comfort detail.
I liked how the questionaire asked if we did/didn't want to know what was going on during the treatment. I don't mind the small talk & like knowing each step. My technician Kate was really informative & super friendly. She was able to clean up some of my acne scabs that had just cleared up. The treatment was extremely relaxing & it was clear that she knew what she was doing & was very good at it.
After the treatment my face literally felt like a baby's bottom. It was super smooth & radiant. I was initally worried that I would be red & sore after hearing about some friends' experiences with microderm. But the microderm treatment here seemed to do the same job with the same results but no pain & redness afterwards.
Overall I would say I am really happy with this place. A bit on the pricer side, but the spa was offering a 15% off the next session if I had booked for another treatment. So I booked a signature facial with Kate's recommendation a few weeks out. Glad I found this place :DComment from Julieanne B. of Ananya Spa 11/8/2010

If I lived in Seattle, I wouldn't write this review. Because I wouldn't want people to know about the amazing massage Ricardo gives. Because everyone would want an appointment and I'd have to wait weeks to get in with him. But, I don't live in Seattle, so I'll give you the scoop.
Ricardo gave me a massage on Saturday. Today is Tuesday and I can still feel the positive effects. He's that good.
He asked about trouble spots and really worked on them. He wanted feedback on the amount of pressure he was using and adjusted accordingly. He did something with a hot towel on my back and neck that had me drooling with pleasure. His massage was relaxing, therapeutic, nurturing and nothing short of fantastic.

Wow! I'm a new mom who is very picky about spa services and I super-enjoyed this place! For $255, I received a one hour massage, a 45 minute body scrub, and a one hour facial! A little on the pricey side, but these girls were worth it!
Nina Bort was my massage therapist and body scrubber...she is VERY good at what she does. She is professional and respectful of your wishes and it was easy to ask for pressure adjustments.
For the facial I had Jenny. Brilliant work! Her extractions did not hurt at all and while the steam was opening my pores, she let me choose between a scalp massage and foot massage.
I was in heaven at Ananya...between treatments I received tea or water and they even gave me a granola bar at the end of my 3-hour stay! Plus, no one tried to sell me any products which I so appreciate! That always pissed me off when you go for spa to RELAX and then they stress you out by trying to sell you things! None of that at Ananya!
The ambiance was really nice, too. Clean and simple. The tea was hot and delicious, to boot!
I will go there again! -

I recently received a Groupon for their microderm-facial. It had been nearly two years since mummery professional facial
and my skin was in desperate need.
The location is easy to find right across from the Spaghetti Factory on Western Ave.*street parking only*
The front desk is welcoming and the salon vibe is both calming and welcoming. I had Gretchen do my service and she was an absolute doll. She took really good care of my battered skin and had some great recommendations. She was very skilled at her craft and had me falling asleep- which if you've ever had a chemical peel and deep exfoliation should know that's not an easy feat. All in all she didn't try to oversell me on products and made some really great advise. I hope to return to try a massage soon.

Really friendly and attentive staff that customize your spa experience to your needs. Came in to get knots massaged out of my back and shoulders and the masseur did a great job, paying attention to my problem areas. They also give you a survey beforehand to ask you about stress areas, massage intensity, etc. which is super convenient for return visits. Also conveniently nearby Olympic Sculpture Park in Belltown. Lobby is super small so I wouldn't advise arriving too early because there's not much of a place to sit.

I had a facial from Jenny last week. It was wonderful. She's wonderful. Also, in the info sheet all the clients fill out there are questions like: Do you like foot massages? Do you like talking, a lot, a little? Do you like hand massages? Do you like to know what each step is?
I thought these were such great questions to ask.
I used a groupon and they didn't treat me like I was "not really a customer." I'll definitely be back. Thanks Jenny. -

After a horrific, inexplicable zit breakout on my poor face, I scheduled the first spa treatment of my life at Ananya with Kate (great name!): a microderm facial. The receptionist was warm and friendly. I filled out my paperwork and noted that having active breakouts made it a bad idea to have microderm done. Kate got me situated and took at look at my skin, agreed that it was a bad idea, and told me we'd do an extraction instead.
Extractions, as it turns out, are exquisitely painful -- but Kate was a pro! We had a great conversation and the painful part was over before I knew it.
Also, hidden bonuses I didn't know I'd get - foot rub and shoulder/neck massage! Plus, the extraction ended up being way cheaper, and my face was smooth and beautiful the next day. I can't wait for an excuse to go back. -

After attending the Elite event here, I had to come back and get my face peeled...on purpose.
Julianne is not only one of the nicest people, she does an amazing job. Her spa is tranquil without being over the top. She makes you feel comfortable without making you feel like a complete idiot because you don't know the difference between toner, scrubbing mask, etc. (I'm just now in the habit of taking my makeup off every night.)
I had her do a peel to take care of some sun damage. What I think I loved most was that she was hesitant to have me do the treatment in the middle of summer. I would risk just getting more damage, and that maybe I should wait to do the treatment. Wait to spend money at your place?? Who does that? After me promising I would wear sunscreen and a hat, she agreed. Afterwards, my skin glowed. Like atomic bomb glow. And smooth as a just waxed bowling ball.
I think I'm hooked now, and plan to go back to check her mineral makeup offerings as well. -

It's a good thing when a facial is so amazing and relaxing that it's difficult to stand up afterward, right?
The answer is a resounding 'YES!'
I'm usually torn between the 'dig the dirt out' type of facial, vs. the 'calming and soothing' experience. Ananda Spa is a perfect blend of the two. It's got that Zen vibe AND my skin looks amazing.. Seriously, I feel incredible!
The space is cute and the staff is very friendly; offering green tea or water before your treatment begins.
The facial was both clinical and rejuvenating. They're an hour & 15 minutes! The rooms are dimly lit with candles and the relaxing music was a nice touch. Julianne was very good about explaining exactly what she was using and why. Lots of great organic Pevonia brand products were used (and purchased!). She was very thorough, great to chat with, and gave an amazing upper body massage at the end of the treatment. NOTE: She was voted 'Seattle's Best Massage Therapist 2006' by Seattle Magazine.
I cannot wait to return. I'm already contemplating Microdermabrasion or another facial. It was the best I've ever had.
Now.. Just sayin', but 'you know what holiday is almost here' and this would be the PERFECT V Day gift for yourself, your lady, your man, or go as a pair! They do have a couples massage, which I'm told is very popular this time of year.
It'd also be a good anytime gift.. for maybe like.. a birthday?

Hooray for happy mediums. Some spas are too clinical, some are too zen, some are too fly by night, and some just plain old suck.
Ananda Spa hits all the right points. It's super cozy with a candlelit interior in the basement of a really cool old building with tons of character. They provide comfy little terry cloth robes and a heated snuggly bed for you to hide under the covers while you get your spa treatment. This way you can nap and get your skin in top condition all at the same time. This is the best form of multi-tasking, ever!
As a bonus, if you get Julianne as your esthetician you will also be getting someone who has 11 years of massage therapy experience.
Two in ones, multi-tasking, and happy mediums are the sweet spots of life.Listed in: Lookin' Good in Seattle

I dedicate this review to the two people who produced Julianne. I believe she's the owner of this lovely establishment and I'm proud call her my favorite person on earth. Like an idiot, I made a desperate move and got my brows waxed at a 'chop shop'. I really don't know why. That evening I called Ananda, told them what happened and made an appointment for the following evening. I was greeted by the sweetest receptionist. It was her fourth day and she totally held everything together.
I was introduced to my favorite person who then lead me to the room where I was made into a beautifully browed goddess. Julianne was so nice, funny and totally listened to exactly what I was asking for. I almost cried when she was done I was so happy. Needless to say, I have her card and I'm going to her for all my waxing needs. Spectacular.
P.S. I hardly knew it when the wax was on my face. -

So I'm really torn about Ananda Spa. I went in for a facial and pedicure and while the overall experience was good, there are negative aspects that can't be overlooked.
Staff and overall customer service: Very intimate with friendly and personable staff!
Location: Good central location (right smack in between belltown and queen anne) although finding the spa (and parking) is a bit tricky.
Ambience: Great if you prefer smaller boutique-type spas. But due to it's diverse set of close neighbors (offices, restaurants, shops, etc)...take note that it can get LOUD. While I was getting a facial, but I was shaken alert halfway through by some really loud sounds from the floor above. Apparently, the folks upstairs were celebrating their Friday afternoon by playing waste-basket-ball right above. So there were lots of dribbling, hooting and yelling "he shoots, he scores!" throughout the last half of my facial. Hardly relaxing.
Quality of service: My pedicure turned out great - the paraffin wax made my feet baby soft. And despite the noise I had to endure, Kate (the esthetician) was better than I expected! She focused a lot of time on the massages (head, arms, hands, shoulders) and it felt incredible. She also ran the high-frequency laser (that kinda sounded like a bug zapper) all over my face, to help along the healing process for my zits. I think it worked. :)
Overall, I give it 3 stars b/c although my visit could have been better, I felt that the quality of my facial and pedicure service was top-notch. Not sure I'd go back however; the banging/dribbling from up above was...(unfortunately) VERY memorable.Comment from Julieanne B. of Ananya Spa 5/16/2011

Addendum to my prior posting:
Kate has apparently left the spa as of June 2007. This made me realize that the exterior/interior of a place do not a spa make -- it is the calibre and quality of the service providers. To this end, I will follow Kate to her new location.

I have been going to this spa for almost six months and it is wonderful! Kate is amazing. She is professional and personable, making even a waxing appointment an enjoyable experience.
Parking can be a little tricky, but the location is ideal otherwise. This is a small day spa that I can highly recommend. -

My dear friend has had enough of my evil bitching lately due to my perpetual back pain so he finally took action and decided to throw me in a spa for a back massage. (He's sweet, I know)
Friendly greetings at the door. I needed to use the bathroom before the massage so instead of pointing me to the lady's room which is outside of the store AND down another hall, which most receptionist would, mine personally walked me to the bathroom - That's customer service.
The massage was just what I needed, hopefully it will put off my bitching at least for a few days. The masseuse couldn't get her hands under my scapula but she didn't give up and worked her way around from under my armpit. It was nice of her to warn me before she started kneading my underarm. She offered me a glass of water after the massage, which was nice, knowing that they are trying to rush out of work before the snow starts again and did not rush me out.
I didn't hear any noise during the whole massage like the other reviewers said. But then again, it is kinda very snowy out, and I went towards the evening, the other office workers are probably tired from all the waste-basket-balling. -

I relaxed immediately and the massage was great. I especially liked that when you check in they give you a questionnaire that asks things like, "Do you like conversation during your massage?" "Do you mind getting your glutes massaged?" "Do you mind getting your toes massaged?"
Knowing they already knew something about me going in, I felt comfortable immediately and could maximize my relaxation experience. I'll definitely be back! -

My regular Masseuse was out of town for several weeks and I have gotten used to 1 1/2 hours weekly so I checked out the reviews close to home and called Anayana Spa to see if I could get in on the next Monday afternoon for a 1 1/2 hour session. Danielle was available so I showed up a little early to fill out the profile data sheet, met w/ Danielle and discussed my preferences on pressure, etc. The massage was great! Danielle is very intuitive on her technique and gave me exactly what I asked for. I liked her so much, I booked the following Monday as well.
I will return for additional sessions next time my regular masseuse takes some time off.

I have never considered myself as a masochist. However, I truly enjoyed the massage that I received from Julianne. Ah...it was so painful, yet so good. I could actually feel the lump in my back dissipating with slight shooting pain that was then soothed by strokes and pressure points of Julianne's talented hands.
She took time before, during and after the massage to learn about my preferences, check on how I feel and discuss care. Her warmth and caring personality radiated throughout. I walked into the spa tight and sore. I floated out relaxed! -

I found this spa through a yelp deal and I am so glad I purchased it. I bought the 45 minute body glow scrub and it was awesome. Nina did a great job!! Very professional and friendly. When I left my skin felt amazing. I decided to bite the bullet and make an appointment for my first Brazilian wax. I can't say enough about Brie. She made me feel so comfortable and at ease. I'm converted now. The ladies here are great!! I'm a forever customer.

I love Ananda spa! After visiting a couple of skin care places I found Ananda and have not seen anyone else since. Julianne, the owner, is always making sure the the service is top notch and the results are nothing less than the best.
Aside from the friendly staff and the great service, Anada also has a warm and inviting feel to it. The atmosphere is soothing and makes you feel relaxed.
I recommend Ananda Spa to all of my friends and they love it as well and keep going back. -

I was looking for a last minute massage in the downtown area for a reasonable price. Used Ananya's online booking system and got a 60minute massage a few hours later.
I showed up about 5 minutes late and the receptionist was still very friendly. The place still feels new and gives the impression that they are still growing into it. The massage room was relaxing/calm but there was a noise from the air vent the kept up during the whole appointment.
I had Steve for my massage. He was great. We went over what I was looking for, what I like in a massage, pressure, etc. He gave me a full hour even though by the time I got to him I was about 15 minutes late. I have had massages for about 8 years and this one would be in my top 3. Typically I don't like having massages by males but Steve was very professional.
When the massage was over, I actually booked a follow up massage in another month because Steve was great.
Overall, recommend on price and quality. I feel the ambiance will improve over time. -

Bought three Groupon coupons for a three-generational "girls day" outing when grandma flew out for her yearly visit. Called months in advance to make massage reservations for any day during a week-long period and was told that they could accommodate only two people for a massage at the same time. Bummer.
What to do with the three Groupons?
Decided to use two for a mother/daughter day as a birthday gift to daughter - but first - used the third coupon for a mom's solo day - just to check it out, ya know (and the massage was good ;)
When it came time for daughter's birthday celebration, planned the day beginning with morning massages. Such decadence! So exciting!
So unbelievably disappointing! Arrived to be informed that mom would not be able to use the third coupon for her massage - even though she confirmed the reservation by phone THE DAY PRIOR to the appointment, and even discussed that fact that mom had used Groupon coupon #1 for a previous massage.
Explanation given: that receptionist was new and didn't know "the rules". Oh. Today's receptionist calls owner to explain situation. Compromise offered to mom:
1) You may pay $85 for today's massage. I think not.
2) Okay - you may use the Groupon and pay an additional $37 for your massage (which would add up to the same non-discounted price of $85. I think not.
3) May mom use coupon for products while daughter gets her birthday massage? Nope.
Okay - I did see then that the fine print said only one coupon per new customer, but seriously? You have Jack in the back waiting to do a massage, which would also earn him a $20 tip, and you are now refusing to honor the confirmed appointment that was very clearly stated was for a second Groupon visit?
Did you really think mom was trying to scam you for a mother-daughter birthday celebration? That's some pretty seriously bad juju. You lost a potentially long-term customer and someone who is big on recommendations when they are earned, and Jack lost an hour of money-making potential. For what? Your rules? Very sad.
P.S. As for daughter's massage, it was very ticklish - and resulted in a spasmed back muscle. Note to massage therapists: when your client tells you the massage is ticklish and they are spasming from your touch, try a different approach.Comment from Julieanne B. of Ananya Spa 3/25/2011
